Just completed a very good telephone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine.

It lasted approximately one hour. Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs. We are very much on track, and I will ask Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, to give an accurate description of the points discussed. That Statement will be put out shortly.

France should take back the Statue of Liberty because the US no longer represents the values that led France to offer the statue, a French MEP said Sunday.

“Give us back the Statue of Liberty”, centre-Left politician Raphael Glucksmann said at a convention of his Place Publique centre-left movement.

Mr Glucksmann rose to prominence last summer and has become a key figure in the increasingly powerful Leftist alliance in France.

His comments come as Donald Trump’s presidency has spread widespread fears about the future of European security and democracy in America.

“We’re going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: ‘Give us back the Statue of Liberty’,” Mr Glucksmann told cheering supporters.

We gave it to you as a gift, but apparently you despise it. So it will be just fine here at home,” he added.

The Statue of Liberty was unveiled in New York City’s harbour on October 28 1886, for the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence as a gift from the French people to America. It was designed by Frenchman Auguste Bartholdi.

Paris does have a far smaller copy of the statue on a small island on the Seine in Paris.

Glucksmann, a staunch defender of Ukraine, has strongly criticised Mr Trump’s radical change of US policy on the war.

He also took aim at Trump’s cuts to US research institutions, which have already prompted a French government initiative to attract some of them to work in France


“The second thing we’re going to say to the Americans is: ‘if you want to fire your best researchers, if you want to fire all the people who, through their freedom and their sense of innovation, their taste for doubt and research, have made your country the world’s leading power, then we’re going to welcome them’,” continued Glucksmann.

Since Trump returned to the White House in January, his government has cut federal research funding and sought to dismiss hundreds of federal workers working on health and climate research.

Glucksmann also criticised far-Right leaders in France, accusing them of being a “fan club” for Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, who is spearheading the president’s efforts to cut spending.

James Harrison, an Australian man who saved the lives of more than two million babies through blood donation, has died at age 88.

Nicknamed the “man with the golden arm,” Harrison donated his blood over 1,100 times, providing his plasma every two weeks for more than six decades.

What made his donations particularly special is that he had a rare antibody that can protect babies from rhesus disease while they’re in the womb.
His journey began at the age of 14, when he required several blood transfusions while he underwent lung surgery.

Grateful for the donations and inspired by his blood donor father, he began donating his blood regularly and continued to do so until he was 81 — the upper age limit for plasma donations in his country.
Harrison’s blood contained a rare antibody known as Anti-D, which can be used to make medication to give to pregnant women with rhesus disease.

Rhesus disease isn’t harmful to the mother, but it causes her antibodies to destroy her baby’s blood cells, which can be fatal.

Since Anti-D was discovered in the 1960s, it has saved the lives of millions of unborn babies, and expectant mothers have relied on the kindness of the small group of people who could provide the anti-body
But no one has ever been as extraordinarily generous as Harrison.

“James was a remarkable, stoically kind, and generous person who was committed to a lifetime of giving and he captured the hearts of many people around the world,” Lifeblood CEO Stephen Cornelissen said in a statement.

“He leaves behind an incredible legacy, and it was his hope that one day, someone in Australia would beat his donation record.”
While he received numerous awards for his lifetime of service, including the Medal of the Order of Australia — the country’s highest honor — Harrison remained humble about his incredible contributions.

“James extended his arm to help others and babies he would never know a remarkable 1173 times and expected nothing in return,” Cornelissen said.

“It was James’ belief that his donations were no more important than any other donors’, and that everyone can be special in the same way that he was.”

Harrison passed away peacefully in his sleep in his nursing home on Monday, February 17.
