Pls house, what might be the cause of battery drainage in my pc. I use HP Notebook. Each time I charged fully. And the next day I start my pc the battery has already drained from 100% to 88%. This is how the other battery died out and I replace it with the current one. (though the current one is not a new one). But when fully charged it last upto 3hrs.
Any solution to this battery drainage problem??

¹......This is a battery callibration issue. Well, at least that's what the battery expert says.

²......Sadly, it's an issue you may have to live with.

³......Why?

⁴......Simple. Over time, the efficiency of the chip that's responsible for everything power related to begins to drop.
And readings wouldn't come true as they used to be...

I want to believe this hasn't always been the case.

So, 3 things to note:

1. The 88% reading might not actually be 88%...

2. There's a huge possibility that you're currently using a replacement battery (less expensive, like 4k to 7k) rather than the manufacturer battery (more expensive from 10k).

Replacements are more likely to behave in such a manner than the originals.

3. Let's not forget that the battery is a used one, so such readings are likely to happen

Finally, if 3hrs fulfils your mission, then all well and good —well, not really.

Here's why : the continuous decline in performance of the chip (from line 4) will finally result in your laptop not charging again, then you'll visit a technician, then you'll have to pray that the chip is replaceable.

Some chips have way too many legs that replacement may not work and you'll have to start hunting for another motherboard.

*Not happening anytime soon but in the mean time, prepare your mind —it is always good to prepare your mind

I updated my Dell Precision E4310 to windows 10 pro. Since then I've been unable to install some applications. It keeps telling me that installation failed because I don't have .net framework. I tried downloading and installing .net framework.. It won't install. Keeps telling me it won't work on my windows version. I've tried everything. Still won't work. I would be glad if anyone could help me with this please. Even if it would require me to come down for the fix. I'm in Lagos. Thanks..

There are some applications that will require a certain version of .net framework to function.

For instance, older versions of some windows programs may not install.

Since you updated to win 10, there's a high chance you're still installing the same versions of programs you installed while on win 7.

First, try installing a newer version of that particular program. You should do this if it's asking for an older .net framework like 3.5.

A healthy HDD could have a few months to it's death date

My HP 15 Windows 10 laptop just started this issue of "plugged in, not charging" and it's been so annoying. I have tried uninstalling the battery drivers, no change. Pls what else can I do, by the way, I noticed a plastic burning smell coming from the charging port some days back but I thought it was due to the broken plastic around the charging port....

Nice try you gave by trying to re-install the battery driver. This means if it wasn't a hardware issue, you would have fixed it —you're a hero.

However, the burning smell thing means you should see a technician, right away.
There could be a component heating up seriously and could be in contact with the plastic casing giving rise to the foul burning plastic smell...

So, yeah - see a tech

Guys, help needed please.

Been facing this issue for quite a while now but it's getting out of hand.

My laptop gets extremely hot! Like boiling hot. The bottom, side and even the keyboard area. I just hope it doesn't affect my motherboard/hard disk. It's probably a cooling fan error. I can no longer use it conveniently for 30 mins at a stretch within it hanging.

Any DIY solutions to this? What can I do

Not much you can really do especially if your PC isn't really accessible.

Your PC is having temperature related issues. Luckily, the motherboard is equipped with a mechanism that shuts the entire system down should the temperature exceed a certain threshold.

So, your laptop has three main components responsible for heat extraction. Namely; the fan (blow out heat that's sent from heat sink); the heat sink (absorbs heat evenly from thermal pastes/pads and sends to fan); and the thermal paste/pads (traps heat evenly and send to the heat sink to absorb)...phew ...

So, if either of the above mentioned component develops issues or goes bad, the heat spikes and y'know, poof!! Your PC shuts down in like 20min/30min— Accompanied by a little hanging and freezing ofcourse

Way out:- checking these components and resolving whatever issues thereof.

It's worthy of note that the hanging/freezing might be due to a failing hard drive or a corrupt OS.

2 Scenarios

1. Screen flickers even when you don't move the screen: way out:- update display drivers. If updating drivers doesn't work, then you'll need to consider replacing your screen.

2. Screen flickers ONLY when you turn the display: way out:- Flex needs replacement. If this doesn't work, then we will consider troubleshooting the mother board.

*Of course the troubleshooting gets slightly more complex with an ultrabook, hence the need for a competent computer technician.

If your system has been on startup repair for hours, chances are;

* The OS is corrupt— well, totally corrupt. The start-up repair utility is possibly corrupt and will stick there till eternity. You will need to re-install the OS.

* The HDD (Hard Drive) is weak and needs replacement — you should back up data and change your hard drive.
