A Bricklayer has been arraigned for allegedly assaulting a food vendor

Ajobi Iwaeni, a 30-year old bricklayer appeared before a magistrate court in Okitipupa, Onto state on Friday, for allegedly assaulting Sikita Salawu, a food vendor.

Iwaeni, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count of unlawful assault.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the accused on June 23 at 1:00pm at a new site along Okitipupa-Irele road, Okitipupa, beat Salawu which caused bodily harm to her.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate disengagement of the former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, from service.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Oil Price Hits $59 on Wednesday, following a fall in U.S. crude inventories and concerns that tensions in the Middle East could disrupt supplies. Brent crude futures, the international benchmark for oil prices, were at 58.27 dollars at 0131 GMT, up 39 cents, or 0.7 per cent from their last close – and a third above mid-year levels.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were at 52.08 dollars per barrel, up 20 cents, or 0.4 per cent and almost a quarter above mid-June levels. Traders said that prices were pushed up by a drop in U.S. crude inventories as well as concerns that fighting in Iraq and mounting tensions between the United States and Iran could affect supplies.

U.S. crude inventories fell by 7.1 million barrels in the week to Oct. 13 to 461.4 million barrels, the American Petroleum Institute (API) said late on Tuesday. Official U.S. fuel inventory data is due to be published later on Wednesday by the Energy Information Administration.

The embattled leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was absent in court on Tuesday as at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday morning as his trial for alleged treason continued at an Abuja court.

According to a report by Premium Times, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who stood as surety for the IPOB leader has asked the court to be relieved of that role, and also applied to the court to refund the N100 million bond earlier agreed to be given as part of Kanu’s bail condition.

It was gathered that Senator Abaribe (PDP-Abia state) in his motion, cited what he described as the invasion of Nnamdi Kanu’s residence on September 11, during which a confrontation occurred between IPOB supporters and the Nigerian Army.

According to the motion, Abaribe said Kanu has not been seen since the September clashes between soldiers and IPOB members.

A kidnap attempt of a 2-year-old boy identified as Darasimi Tijani, who was allegedly lured by suspected kidnappers with N50, was on Monday foiled by Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corp (LNSC) at No 90, Oyewole Road, Orile-Agege, about 9a.m.

According to a report by New Telegraph, it was gathered that the kidnappers realised that Darasim’s guardian, Mrs. Fathimo Balogun, went in to attend to the need of other kids, and passers-by, who learnt of the suspected the kidnappers’ sinister moves, raised alarm which led to their arrest by a mob.

The swift intervention of the LNSC officers saved the suspects from being lynched while the boy, his mother, Mrs. Wasilat Tijani, and the guardian were taken to LNSC station at Orile-Agege LCDA.

The banned Indigenous People of Biafra on Monday threatened to take up arms against the Federal Government of President Muhammadu Buhari if it failed to produce its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, dead or alive, on Tuesday (today) in court.

Kanu is facing treason charges. He was granted bail in April, with an order to return to court to face his trial before Justice Binta Nyako on October 17.

The Federal Government Of Nigeria, has debunked claims that Federal Government Fingered in the Spread of Monkey Pox in some parts of the country after the alleged free medical care organised by the government for people of the affected areas.

Over 2,300 Boko Haram Suspects Set for Closed Door Trial in a Nigerian court from Monday.
The defendants have all been picked up and held in detention since the start of the conflict eight years ago, which has left at least 20,000 dead in the country’s remote northeast.

To date, just 13 people have been put on trial and only nine convicted for their links to the Islamist insurgency, according to official figures.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has demanded that the retirement of teachers of primary and secondary schools in the country be raised from 60 to 65 years.

Mr Michael Olukoya, the National President of NUT made the call at the 2017 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Abuja on Thursday.

The theme of this year’s day is: “Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers’’.

Olukoya said that the retirement age for teachers in the Colleges of Education, Polytechnics and Universities was extended to 65 and 70 respectively.

The family of Asta, the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has threatened Senator Isa Hamman Misau over allegations by the lawmaker that their daughter got married to the Inspector General of Police secretly after getting pregnant.

The lawmaker representing Bauchi central had on Wednesday alleged that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, impregnated a serving deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Asta, an act which he says contravenes the police act.

According to Premim Times, the members of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions were on Wednesday infuriated by the refusal of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, to honour the invitation of the committee.

The committee had sent invitation to Mr. Buratai to appear before a public hearing over a petition submitted by a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, Abdulfatai Mohammed.

Mr. Mohammed alleged that the Army forcefully retired him in June 2016 without explanation after 22 years of service.

The public hearing started at about 3.30 p.m. with the petitioner tendering additional evidence to the committee for consideration.

At the expiration of his speech, the chairman of the committee, Samuel Anyanwu, called out the name of Mr. Buratai to hear the Nigerian Army’s side of the story.
