ISPs Struggle To Connect 219,117 Subscribers to Internet


The growth profile of licensed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country has continued to plum men meet Statistics obtained by The Guardian from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) confirmed this. The statistics revealed that out of the 219,117 connections, only about 126, 378 users are active on the Internet through the ISPs as at first quarter 2018.

These connected lines were made possible by the efforts of 23 ISPs, including Spectranet, IS Internet Solutions, VDT, Cobranet, e-Stream, Cyberspace, MainOne Cables, Juniper Solutions, Backbone Connectivity, Hyperia, ipNX, Zeta-Web Nigeria, Ekovolt Telco Nigeria, Layer 3 Ltd, NetAccess Communications Nigeria, among others.

According to reports, 9 NYSC members serving in Taraba state have drownrd in a river.

Police reports that Seven members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have drowned in a river southeast of Taraba State, with two others feared dead.

It was learnt that corps members were on a swimming expedition in River Mayo-Selbe, a major tributary of the Benue River, when a water surge from a nearby mountain collapsed on them and swept them into the massive river,

According to PREMIUM TIMES, David Akinremi, Taraba police commissioner on Monday, disclosed that There were 22 corpers who went on a picnic at a waterfall that has a river bellow, there was a surge of water from the top of the mountain that swept them away.

Twin brothers, Josh and Jeremy Salyers, tie the matrimonial nuts with a set of identical twin sisters, Brittany and Briana Deane in a town called Twinsburg. What a coincidence.

According to The Sun, the brothers both popped the question at the same time and even the date of the proposal was also a nod to their connections – February 2. Josh and Jeremy Salyers, 34, met twin sisters Brittany and Briana Deane, 32, last August when they all attended a festival for twins in the town in Ohio, USA.

5 people were killed and 44 injured in a gun violence night in Chicago.

At least nine school pupils have lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a school bus and a truck.

Nine pupils of St Gabriel’s Academy in Mwingi are reported to have died and 27 others wounded in the accidenThe accident occurred in eastern Kenya near Mwingi town on Saturday night.

The school bus was travelling from Mombasa when the accident occurred some minutes to midnight, just 3km before reaching its destination after having covered more 600km.

Parents of pupils from the school which is run by the Kitui Catholic Diocese, were waiting just a few kilometres to receive them when their lives were cut short.

Kitui Central OCPD Muthuri Mwongera, who coordinated rescue efforts, said eight pupils died on the spot when the bus rolled several times after colliding with an oncoming truck.

Policemen who patronize prostitutes in Anambara State, have been threatened by the s-x workers to starve them (police customers) for alleged harassment and arrest of their colleagues in major cities of the state.

In a chat with news men on Friday, one of the s-x workers, who claimed to be a leader of the group in Umunze in the Orumba South Local Government Area of the state, identified as Kaamsi, disclosed that her members in the state had decided to starve policemen.

Coptic Bishop's Death Investigated By Police in Egypt.

The mysterious death of a Coptic Christian Bishop who on Sunday, was found dead in his monastery northwest of Cairo in Egypt, is been investigated by the police according to the Church.

The body of Bishop Epiphanius “was handed to forensic investigators to determine the cause of the death and whether or not it was a murder”, a security official said on Monday.

“The body was found in one of the monastery’s corridors with head injuries”, added the security official, who declined to be named.

Bishop Epiphanius, 68, was the abbot of Saint Macarius monastery in Wadi el-Natrun.

Mourinho said that he had “no right” to stop Martial from leaving United’s pre-season tour, though he had expected the 22-year-old to return much sooner.

Martial’s son, Swan, was born on Thursday, and United played Liverpool in a pre-season friendly in Michigan on Saturday.

The Red Devils were beaten 4-1 by Liverpool and Mourinho said afterwards that Martial should have re-joined the squad in time to play against Liverpool.

CBN Urges FGN To Save For Rainy Day

On Tuesday, The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), warned the Federal Government to learn to save heavily from current improved crude oil sales for a future time of need.

CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, who read the communique of July MPC meeting in Abuja, said the committee, while discussing the economic report, observed that as the prices of crude oil increased in 2017 and 2018, the monthly allocation to various levels of government also increased, suggesting that Federal Government was not conscious of saving for the rainy day.

He said the committee had called on the apex bank to continue to build on the progress already made in arresting the trend to sustain the moderation in food inflation.
