Religion / Sacrificial Giving / Living — Pst Samuel Dagogo by RCCGLSCPH: 2:58pm On Feb 03, 2019
Topic: Sacrificial Giving / Living — Pst Samuel Dagogo

Text: Matt 6:33; 2Cor 8:3; Rom 12:1

Sacrifice is an act of surrendering one’s position (important) as an offering. (Read: Matt 6:33)

Sacrificial giving is the act of surrendering one’s important possession as an offering in an atmosphere of gratitude.

Our willingness to sacrifice is an indication of our devotion to God.

The start point of sacrificial living is New birth. (2 Cor 5:17)

Until you are born again your sacrifice is like putting Gold in a trash or serving Chocolate with a dirty bowl.

NEW BIRTH

*To be born of God. 1 Peter 1:22-25, Gal 3:26, Gen 2:7

* To be born of the Spirit. John 1:13

We are not trying to be spiritual we are spirits

*To be born not of Blood.

*To have a renewed m ind. Ju1:19-21

*To have a physically transformed life. Rom 12:2

*To have a life of daily dedication and service. John 3:16

Love is the foundation of giving. Gen 22:1-19

Religion / Why Do Christians Keep Struggling With Sin? by RCCGLSCPH: 6:04pm On Jan 30, 2019
If we truly are righteous in Christ Jesus, why do we need to be reminded to live righteous lives? If we are new creations and have a new name (2 Cor 5:17), why do we still struggle with sin? If I am filled with God’s Spirit, the Spirit of love, joy, and peace, why do I yet struggle with the lack of love, joy, and peace?

The puzzle is not to be resolved by distinguishing between the way God sees and the way we actually are but by distinguishing between the way we actually are and the way we experience ourselves. Though our true identity is established by God when we trust in Christ, our experienced self-identity—the way we habitually see and experience ourselves—remains largely intact. In terms of how we see and experience ourselves, we are yet largely controlled by the pattern of the world.

God doesn’t destroy who we are with all of our memories, our habits, or our past associations when he re-creates us in Christ Jesus. He rather seeks to transform all of our memories, habits and past associations on the basis of our re-created identities. We do not automatically see and experience ourselves as we truly are in Christ. Therefore to some extent we continue to think and act as though what is true about us in Christ were not true.

The problem is that we have internalized messages from our upbringing, culture, past experiences, and our own rebellious ruminations that are not true but that continue to influence us, even after we’ve received our new identity in Christ. When we fail to view ourselves as though what God says about us in Christ is true, we often think and act according to what Paul called our “old self” (Eph 4:22).

The result is that our true identity as defined by God conflicts with our experienced self-identity, inherited from the pattern of the world. When God said, “Let there by light” (Gen 1:3), there was light automatically, because in the beginning there was nothing to oppose God’s voice. Yet when God says, “I declare you to be holy, spotless, infinitely worthwhile, and loveable in my sight,” there is a false identity in place that resists this divine word and that has to be confronted.

Because we habitually thought and lived as our old selves before receiving our new identity, God’s proclamation of who we truly are in Christ must overcome our old self-identity that we continue to experience.

This is why the true identity we have in Christ is not automatically experienced in our hearts and expressed in our behavior. It is why there is a discrepancy between what God says is true and what we habitually experience as truth. This is also why there is a discrepancy between what we ought to do, given our true identity, and what we in fact do because of our experienced self-identity. It is why there is an ongoing battle between the Spirit and the flesh (Gal 5:17).

Religion / Coach Yourself To Hope In God by RCCGLSCPH: 4:10pm On Jan 30, 2019
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. -Psalm 43:5

If Psalm 43 seems strangely familiar, that’s because it is the ending of the psalm we know as Psalm 42. This is clear from the themes as well as the exact echo of 42:11 in 43:5. Both verses read: “Why, my soul are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

Biblical hope doesn’t deny the pain of the present. Nor is it wishful thinking. Rather, true hope is “in God,” in the One who is fully and finally reliable.

In Psalm 43, the writer continues his desperate cry for help even as he wonders why God has tossed him aside (43:2). He anticipates going to the Temple in Jerusalem. At the altar of God he will be refreshed by God’s presence (43:3-4). The psalm ends by repeating the refrain from Psalm 42:11, as I noted in the previous paragraph.

This NIV translation “Put your hope in God” rightly renders the Hebrew imperative, meaning, “Hope!” (yachal in the Hiphil). So, this verse allows us to listen in as the psalmist talks to himself (literally, his soul). He begins: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?” But then he coaches himself to redirect his thoughts and emotions: “Hope in God!” In this hope, he looks forward to the time when he will once again praise God his Savior.

Psalm 43:5 dramatizes the inner dialogue of faith. Discouragement and sadness are a normal part of our relationship with God. When we feel such emotions, we would do well to imitate the psalmist, coaching ourselves to put our hope in God. Biblical hope doesn’t deny the pain of the present. Nor is it wishful thinking. Rather, true hope is “in God,” in the one who is fully and finally reliable.
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:

Have you ever had an inner dialogue like that of Psalm 43:5? When? Why?

Are you struggling to hope in God right now? Will you ask the Lord to help you hope in him?

What helps you to hope in God?
PRAYER:

Gracious God, first of all, I thank you for the honesty and realism of this psalm. There are times in my relationship with you when I feel discouraged and downhearted. Thus I can relate to what the psalmist is feeling here and I’m grateful for this connection.

Help me, dear Lord, to hope in you. When circumstances feel overwhelming, when I wonder how things will turn out, may I put my full confidence in you and you alone. May I trust you with the future, knowing that you are eminently and uniquely trustworthy, and that you want what is best for me.

All praise be to you, O Lord, because you are my Hope, my Savior, and my God. Amen.

Memorise: “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”- Proverbs 19:17

Read: James 2:14-17 (KJV)

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Bible in One Year: Luke 9, Isaiah 28:14-29
Open Heaven 30 January 2019 Wednesday MESSAGE:

Caring for the needy is an issue that is very dear to the heart of the Almighty God. In Deuteronomy 15:11, He reveals His mindset to us concerning the poor:

“For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.”

Because God is sovereign, it is needless to ask why there should be poor people in the land, and it is equally unwarranted to query Him as to why He did not put an end to poverty. The good thing is that God has made provision for the needy in His infallible word. It is left for us to obey His commands and be blessed in return. Someone is in need when he or she lacks what matters for his or her existence, and we are commanded to meet such needs if we are in a position to do so. Without any form of ambiguity, today’s memory verse reaffirms God’s concern for the needy, and this is further established by the Holy Spirit in today’s Bible text. Through these verses, caring for the needy is established as a work of faith. In other words, we are not people of faith if we are not mindful of the condition of the needy in our midst.

In Matthew 15:32-38, our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated His care for the needy when after some days of spiritual retreat, He said to His disciples:

“…I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.” – Matthew 15:32

In this scripture, we see that it was not just a situation of the people not having money to buy food but also that there was no food to buy. This shows that money can be of no use when what you need is not available to buy. We should therefore learn that the needy are not just those who don’t have food, clothes or money; even “rich people” among us can be in serious need of things that money cannot buy. Naaman had money, but the healing that he needed could not be purchased. Thanks be to God of Israel who met that need in his life through His prophet, Elisha (2 Kings 5:10-14). God also used Elisha to meet the needs of the Shunammite woman, whose money could not conquer her barrenness (2 Kings 4:8-17). I pray for you that the Almighty God will take care of your needs today in Jesus’ Name.

1. While passing thro’ this world of sin,
and others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you.
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true;
Let others see Jesus in you.

2. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it thro’ and thro’
Say, does it point them to the skis,
Do others see Jesus in you?

3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave and true,
and lead the lost to life and Christ.
Let others see Jesus in you.

Religion / WORD: What’s My Purpose In Life? by RCCGLSCPH: 5:09pm On Jan 29, 2019
There’s much more meaning in life once you know your purpose.

Consider a hammer. It’s designed to hit nails. That’s what it was created to do. Now imagine that the hammer never gets used. It just sits in the toolbox. The hammer doesn’t care.

But now imagine that same hammer with a soul, a self-consciousness. Days and days go by with him remaining in the toolbox. He feels funny inside, but he’s not sure exactly why. Something is missing, but he doesn’t know what it is.

Then one day someone pulls him out of the toolbox and uses him to break some branches for the fireplace. The hammer is exhilarated. Being held, being wielded, hitting the branches — the hammer loves it. At the end of the day, though, he is still unfulfilled. Hitting the branches was fun, but it wasn’t enough. Something is still missing.

In the days that follow, he’s used often. He reshapes a hubcap, blasts through some sheet rock, knocks a table leg back into place. Still, he’s left unfulfilled. So he longs for more action. He wants to be used as much as possible to knock things around, to break things, to blast things, to dent things. He figures that he just hasn’t had enough of these events to satisfy him. More of the same, he believes, is the solution to his lack of fulfillment.

purpose in life, meaning in lifeThen one day someone uses him on a nail. Suddenly, the lights come on in his hammer soul. He now understands what he was truly designed for. He was meant to hit nails. All the other things he hit pale in comparison. Now he knows what his hammer soul was searching for all along.

We are created in God’s image for relationship with him. Being in that relationship is the only thing that will ultimately satisfy our souls. Until we come to know God, we’ve had many wonderful experiences, but we haven’t hit a nail. We’ve been used for some noble purposes, but not the one we were ultimately designed for, not the one through which we will find the most fulfillment. Augustine summarized it this way: “You [God] have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee.”

A relationship with God is the only thing that will quench our soul’s longing. Jesus Christ said, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.” Until we come to know God, we are hungry and thirsty in life. We try to “eat” and “drink” all kinds of things to satisfy our hunger and thirst, but yet they remain.
