Car TalkWhat You Must Do While Driving by Realacars(op): 1:45pm On Sep 23, 2015
This is going to be a short one, so don't scroll down to see the end of it unlike our previous articles.

If you're the type that love to sing on top of your voice or you love putting the stereo on blast, then read this short tip of What You Must Do While Driving.

The experienced drivers will agree with this one, whether you like it or not you need to understand the sound of your engine so that you can easily figure out any strange fault/sound and it can safe you a whole lot of money and stress if it's fixed beforehand.

Although, cars are not to be trusted!

Here is What You Must Do While Driving: Use 3 to 5 minutes out of your journey/driving to listen to the sound of your engine, mechanical parts are not to be trusted. Anything can happen!

You MUST not assume it's in perfect condition because that perfectly working car might develop fault anytime and you won't want to find yourself lonely in the middle of the highway.

Let us know what you think about this short tip? Do you agree with us, please share your thoughts and experience.

Have you experience this type of thing before? What did you do when you observe strange sound from your engine?
Your opinion will help other readers on realacars.com

Car TalkTop 12 Popular Demand Car Brands Available In Nigeria by Realacars(op): 1:11pm On Sep 23, 2015
Often, we must have come across people debating on the most available car brands or sometimes the best and affordable cars for a start putting into consideration fuel conservation, spare parts and mileage.

Below are the cars we can confidently confirm to our readers that they're the top Popular Demand Car Brands Available In Nigeria.

1. TOYOTA
You can't take the number 1 spot away from this Brand here in Nigeria, The founder of the popular demand is a Japenese, Kiichiro Toyoda, in the year 1937 and the brand has grown to become the world's largest automobile manufacturers. Toyota brands owns subsidiaries like the Luxury version of Toyota, Lexus and the hip brand, Scion. The low fuel consumption budget has got to be the key and it's quite easy to handle. The most popular models in the country are Camry, Land Cruiser, Corolla, Rav 4 and lots more.

2. HONDA
In second place, we've another brand that will always compete with Toyota and it's very close in rivalry to the above. Japan always find a way to give the best to the world, the founder Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa has executed a very elegant and cost effective brand, it's also good on fuel. Notable models in the country are Pilot, Civic, Accord, and lots more. Their presence in the country is everlasting with a luxury subsidiary like Acura.

3. MERCEDES BENZ
If what you seek is been classy and look exceptional, our number 3 brand should be your priority, well reserved for the 'big guns'. Use to joke with friends on the fuel consumption gauge.
Hence, it's durable, lterally top Nigerians are in love with this brand and from our findings, it's even the official car of the President of Nigeria. This classy beast is founded by Karl Benz and Gottlied Daimler in 1886. It's among the highest selling brands in Nigeria.

4. VOLKSWAGEN
You don't think we're going to exclude this beauty from our Top 5, do you?
Unfortunately, i'm from the 90's and this model still brings the good memories of the beautiful Beetle model. The meaning of Volkswagen is the "People's Car". No doubt, ask the commercial vehicle owners and the upgraded version owners of the model. They've Bora, Passat and many more piling the road daily. Founder, German Labour Front, Founded: May 28, 1937. The Volkswagen group also possess known brands which includes the luxurious Lamborghini, Porsche, Skoda, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Ducati, Scania (truck manufacturer) and many more.

5. NISSAN
Nissan is another fast growing Auto company in the country. With the models like Maxima, Altima, Murano just to name a few, Founded by Masujiro Hashimoto, Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama, Meitaro Tekeuchi and Yoshisuke Aikawa in the heart of Japan in the year 1933. It's also the official car of the Coach of the super eagles of Nigeria football team. No doubt, Nigerians love Japanese automobile brand and they have been consistent by patronizing dealers for the latest models on a yearly basis.

6. PEUGEOT
Growing up in the country, this brand has been notably seen and well recognized. Ask any Nigerian Dad, he will sit you down and give you the breakdown of the almighty Peugeot 406.. You beauty!
Peugeot is a French cars brand, part of PSA Peugeot Citroën. The family business that preceded the current Peugeot company was founded in 1810. Founder: Armand Peugeot. It's the official car of most forces in the country, the navy and military men notably.

7. BMW
Another classy classy brand known for its durability in the country to the extent that if you ask an average Nigerian the full meaning, he'll answer confidently with "Be My Wife". Of course, he's answering you correctly in his own understanding but the full meaning is Bayerische Motoren Werke which means Bavarian Motor Works in English. Some mechanics doesn;t recommend the classy brand because sometimes it could create a hole in the pocket when it needs a part to be replaced.
Although, it's known for speed, and not to disappoint in safety.

8. KIA
Some weeks ago, i was forced to confess to the driver while traveling that the car is rugged and my eyes was glued to the Fuel Gauge just to confirm its efficiency. The result was convincing,
KIA was founded in the heart of South Korea and it's one one of the fastest rising brands in the car industry, if not the FASTEST (Not in terms of speed). For its affordability, KIA is now one of the cars mostly used for official vehicles because of its fuel conservation as stated earlier. It has a popular model named "Picanto".

9. HYUNDAI
Just like its sister company KIA, this brand is known for being a top car brand used officially in the country. Hyundai which means “modernity” is known for its swift change in its outside look and style of its automobile designs in recent times. It's Known as the second brand under the Hyundai Motor Group.

10. LAND ROVER
So far, our Top 9 list consists of the affordable, and the pocket friendly brands but we can't just take this one away and it can't be excluded from the top ten regardless of the price.
The Land Rover Company owned by the Indian company Tata Motors which in turn forms the Jaguar Land Rover (JVR) group. The Tata models widely used for transportation are also a hit with Nigerians. Although, the brand has been around since 1978 and they have successfully invaded the country with iconic model, the Range Rover, it has spiked the brand and a lot of people prefer the model and another fact, it's the second oldest SUV brand after JEEP.

11. FORD
We see this brand daily but due to it's scarcity of spare parts, most people prefer the surplus. the all American power shows their own strength and they have their own special lovers. According to reports, this brand is the 5th highest brand sold in the world and 2nd in the United State.

12. CHEVROLET
Just like the above Ford, it's also an American brand. The two listed are the most popular brands in the country. They sold JLR group to Tata in 2008. Chervolet nicknamed 'Chevy' is popular in the country from the division of the General Motors Company, founded in 1911. The Chevrolet Camaro is used by most celebrities in the country. The Chevrolet Aveo and Avalanche are the popular models in the country.

Honorable mention: Mazda, Mitsubishi, Jaguar.

Of course, critics are welcome and this list is not complete without our readers opinion.

billy187:
This is a mistake I made when buying my present car, a Naija Ghana used 2003 Ford Focus Wagon.

I was moving from a Chevy Suburban that I had used in the US and I did not want people to ask why I'm downgrading from 4X4 to small car. It happened to be the first locally used car I bought and I had no idea of the concept of 'Tropicalization'. A while after I bought the car I took her for a scan and voala.........no thermo, fan relay error, dpfe sensor error: the works. I've managed to fix up the exhaust and thermo errors but nobody seems to know how to fix the botched up fan wiring. (one kazeem even claimed he'd attach it to pulley...like a rwd car!! I ran away sharply grin).

The cars runs pretty good (reaches optimal temp in 3 mins!)--except for the fact I cannot 'sneak' into the house with the noisy fans and the batteries I have to change every 2 years!! angry

the Lesson: NEVER, never buy a car secretly! Nice one OP wink
Lol... I was laughing really hard while reading your comment.

Quite impressed with your honesty, lesson learnt. I hope other people can learn 1 or 2 things from your experience. cheesy

Please respond to my questions na.

How good is Hyundai Elantra, 2008?

What's the fuel consumption level like?

Are the parts readily available?

Is it a durable car?

Thanks.
Oh sorry for the late response.

Hyundai are better as brand new, the fuel consumption will be based on the functionality of the engine, parts should be available.

Overall it's a durable car if you're getting it brand new.

Cheers, and sorry for the late response once again.

Car TalkWhy You Should Never Buy Your Car Secretly by Realacars(op):
Based on the promise, we'll try as much as possible to share helpful articles on realacars.com

Fortunately, i didn't suffer that much with my first car but i only know i get comfortable space to sit at my mechanic place, don't ask me the minimum time I've spent before.

Why You Should Never Buy Your Car Secretly, there are lots of reasons we'd like to share with our dear readers on realacars.com but we'll try as much as possible to make this article short so you don't get bored reading.

Maintenance: i don't need to stress this, just read Things You Must Consider Before Buying That Car. https://www.nairaland.com/2614851/things-must-consider-before-buy.
Thank me later.

Scammers/Fake Sellers: this is one of the reason why we created this platform, we want to source Real Available Cars for our readers.
There are lots of scammers out there and they're ready to pounce on their prey without hesitation, they know some people are vulnerable.
Most times, people that fall victim are the silent ones, you see the reason why you should never buy that car secretly because if you discuss with one of two friends they'll share their own idea with you and that can safe you some money.

I could remember sourcing a car for a client in 2014 and the seller told me to pay 13k into a certain bank account number before inspection. I can't be this dumb.

Disgraceful Car Dealers: Shout out to the reputable ones out there, keep doing the good job and if you happen to fall in the other category, your cup will be full one day.

They're aware of your ignorance and they understand how impatient some buyers can be when the cash is available.
Hence, they'll never be honest in any way to you. Some of them can even claim the AC of a car is as chilled as a Deep Freezer... Well done!

That Unkept Mechanic: Be contended with him if he's the closest to your area, if you're that kind of person that doesn't like to involve friends and family in your deals.
Well, you still can't get that your car secretly because chances that you might regret your decision is very high, so if Kazeem, Chinedu or Abubakar is readily available.
Meet and discuss with him, he should be able to give you one or two tips.
After all, he's a mechanic and he most dev have experience than you for a start!

Lastly, Involve closest pal: Involve people you can confide in because you're not buying a toy car that will limit to your room, you're buying a car in reality.

Although, "What people think about you or your car is none of your business but what your 'Pocket' think about you is most definitely your business and your concern".

The people you excluded when you're about buying the car are the same set of people that will be available to assist you. Don't mind the mechanic, he's just doing his job and he'll get paid.

Are you still saving towards your first car, why not Subscribe to our updates and be the first to read our Articles, it'll best guide you when you're about to get one.

So what's the point in buying a car and let it sit in your garage while you use public transportation? It defeats the whole purpose of buying a car. New cars spoil too from a mixture of things like driving through all the flooding in Lekki, adulterated fuel, just to mention a few.
Certified used cars will serve as if not better than a new car. And you are getting it cheaper too. Why do you think that the price of a car becomes highly discounted as soon as you register it? Because potential buyers and other Nigerians know what a typical car goes through in Nigeria. It is the reality.

Worst part of it all is that quiet a good number of car owners in Nigeria do not jack about cars. They buy because a particular brand is en vogue and affordable. Regular check up? Yeah right. You expect the folks that don't do medical check ups to take a car for routine maintenance.

Well said.

For Manual: You can try this method, first apply a mild handbrake then slot in first gear. Rev somewhat higher than usual. But not high enough to cause wheelspin.

Now, slowly and smoothly release clutch. Avoid wheelspin at all costs.

Automatic: Use Gear 1 or 2

Thanks for the tips:

I just got a Car, 2010 Toyota Corrolla Sport.

What are those things you think I should watch out for?

BTW, I was told Corrollas does not consume fuel like that but I think my experience is different o. Just driving from work and back to my house. Even with the traffic, I still feel the meter too they run southwards.
Toyota are known to be solid, you really don't have to bother but you can always keep an eye on the service date and always ensure you listen to the sound of your engine while driving once in a while.

It'll help you detect faults earlier.

As for the Fuel, what's the Engine of your car? 4 cylinder or V6?
