Idiotic thread. You should learning from the Kenyan experience instead of creating narratives to demonize percieved opposition with it.
What are our loans used for. Ameachi should be in EFCC answering that question seeing his ministry wasted a lot of loans we are struggling with today.
Even with subsidized fares, people dont want to use the railway and trains built with pportions of those loans.

The idiotic thread is focusing on people who wish Kenya upon Nigeria. Between the start of the Kenyan protest and now, which country lost more souls to bullets of police more between kenya and Nigeria? Helinues?
Foreign AffairsRe: How Kenya Stood Against Increase In Tax by RepoMan007: 5:54pm On Jun 27, 2024
They did the right thing. The structure they run allowed the loans to be wasted on venture that cannot repay the loans. Why did that happen? Is it unwise to take loans to feed and live as a family or nation. Loans are for investments that can repay the loans without forced patronage.
In africa, we use loans for non viable projects just for the purpose of looting and doing something mammoth.
They were right to challenge the structure that wasted those loans.

More destructions of government properties mean more ways to embezzle more money
learn and stop demonising the masses of other countries just because you were asked to do that to Nigerians.

We need to turn the AU to a monetary union just like the EU. A single currency will solve a lot of the problem in Africa. The lack of forex thereby leading to an unstable local exchange rate is the bane of the current economic problems all over the continent. We rely too much on dollars for everything and it is not helping our local economy. African leaders should develop the balls and ditch the dollar. With a single currency, trade among African country will increase significantly and this will have a significant effect on the local economy of the continent. Shocks from weak economies can also be spread within the continent.
adopting a single currency is not the issue. We are in debt. Debt that has been wasted and cannot repay the interest alone not to talk of the principal loan amount. The idea of exploiting oil rich region and treating them as booty has backfired. What we have is a situation where our debts have been wasted and repayment is eating a huge chunk of the oil money our indolence is structured upon and supported by. Activity dont grow GDP, productivity does and I am afraid we have lost touch with reality. When last was cash crop planted.
It may reduce reckless printing of money but not for too long. What happens when like minded leaders assume power across the african states and decide to capitulate at once by printing money to quell civil unrest. That's where we are heading.

The last thing close to a true leader we had was Obasanjo. YarAdua was weak and thus selected for that purpose. GEJ was equally weak and never really a politician seeing he is just a guy with good luck. Buhari was no doubt an error even his wife and kids know about. Tinubu is an amplification of Buhari to power of 100.

We need a leader urgently and not all these efulefu atiku n Obi masquerading as solutions. The pattern of debt we are towing is so similar to Kenya's. Huge loans that cant pay even the interest alone talk less about principal.
What were the loans used for?

Kenya's debt profile is burdening them.
It was triggered by unchecked borrowing in the last decade.
Their creditors include World Bank, IMF, AFDB, and most importantly, China.
Unforeseen circumstances like Covid pandemic and Ukraine-Russia war also contributed to shocks that unsettled their economy.
11.2 Trillion Kenyan Shilling($85billion dollars at current rates) is owed by Kenya to both internal and external creditors.
That is about 68% of the Kenyan GDP and well above recommended debt level for nations, putting them well at the brink of debt default. This has led to raising of tax locally by the govt.
The big issue is the external part of the loans. It was borrowed in US dollar and so when the Kenyan shilling lost value last year, that led to a rise in loan value of the about $13B that was incurred in additional loans in the last year, 76% of that was down to local currency weakening.
The real issue of concern for the Ruto govt is that they have around $500m to pay each of IMF and WB in the next 18 months as well as $2Bn to china which is not known for flexibility of repayment rescheduling with defaulters.
That is the real reason for the forceful attitude of Ruto govt towards tax increases.

The last fact raises a big question of what the loans were used for. Why tax the people for repayment?

Nigeria can learn a lot from the happenings in Kenya as like Kenya, we have reached borrowing limits, and have to do whatever pleases our lenders to secure emergency loans just to patch things up.

They value human beings there. Human development index of United Kingdom is very high @ 0.931

For Nigeria, the HDI has shown a 22% increase in 19 years but remains low at 0.548 , categorizing the country as having low human development. The report emphasizes Nigeria's significant loss in HDI due to inequality, estimated at 32.7%.

Thank you
even the human development quality is low. How do you rate graduates who think Yahoo is a trade? The development is just a farce most times.
Studying religious studies in school shouldnt be part of HDI neither.

They knew dollar was being subsidized but still asked such a deceptive question, so I dont blame Obidients and PDP when they cry about higher prices.

i googled uses of wheat. and all i can find is wheat is primarily used for making flour

so the question is - what would they have been cultivating wheat for, and why has that food not survived to this day?

all our staple meals from crops we cultivated in the past are still around.

so if we cultivated wheat, whatever we cultivated it for should still be with us to this day
good reasoning. Though semovita and the rest are possible. Even chicken food uses could have preserved it.
