jesus. Dis twerp doesnt even know that requesting someones resignation is not the same thing as firing/ unilateral termination of appointment. Sis, you daft pass rat. |
i did not say Nigeria. I said - THERE IS NO CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR IN ANY COUNTRY OF THE WORLD THE WORLD THAT CAN REMAIN IN OFFICE AFTER THAT. And that is NOT Illegal. It is a simple request for resignation. The reason the request cannot be refused is because of the compelling position of the person making the request. That person holds final responsibility for the country. |
And here's how the president will go about it. . . He will summon the governor to a meeting at the villa. He will say as follows. . . "i thank you very mush for ur service to this country. However at this time i feel that your approach does not synergise with the economic vision of my government. I will thus be happy to receive ur resignation tomorrow. You can be assurred of my personal support in ur future endeavours. Thank you once again" THERE IS NO CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR IN ANY COUNTRY OF THE WORLD THAT CAN REMAIN IN OFFICE AFTER THAT. Period. |
just go through the CBN act and see the many powers given to the prez in it! Bloody hell, WHO APPOINTS THE CBN GOVERNOR? Is that not the first element of control. Sis you daft o |
men how daft can someone be. U say a prez has no contol whatsoever over the cbn, so why the bl.oo.dy hell is the prez stated to be the approving authourity for currency matters etc? Madam, jeeeeeeeeeeezuz! |
sincerely i decided not to reply her because her responses were so terribly dim witted and contradictory. I now see What people mean when they say that it's a waste of time discussing anything with her. |
^ Its honestly amazing just how bereft of a conscience Beaf is. |
Gbawe:Beaf who defends even the indefensible so long as GEJ is involved is obviously a stinking swine of the worst form of hypocritical sycophancy in this country. I am convinced that he is either Jonathan himself, or a close relative, or an employee. |
Beaf: simple question - Should Katsina Alu not also have been similarly suspended while the allegations against him were pending? Do you believe Katsina Aku has no case to answer? I am weary and tired of you. Can you NEVER see something wrong and admit it? So long as its GEJ you will ALWAYS support the government, no matter how absurd it is. You have become a stinking swine of the worst form of hypocritical sycophancy in this country, and I must confess that you are absolutely worthless as a human being. |
I think Beaf has since lost all credibility on this forum. I am thinking he may be Jonathan himself - which means the President spends all his time on Nairaland chatting, and that explains the poor performance. ![]() |
Of course gender does not apply to spirits, |
^ It should simply be called Interest Free Banking. No religious word should be used in secular matters in a secular country. If Muslims wish to bank according to their religion, then the Interest Free guidelines will be there for them to adopt. simple. Shikena. Case closed. No biggie. |
thehomer:Men, this is just the height of idiocy! Has this fellow ever studied the human brain for example? Just watch Nat Geo wild! |
Kobojunkie. People said you are unreasonable in arguments, I do not want to believe that, but you are slowly pushing me to believe that. Questions - 1. You say Prez has NO CONTROL over CBN. Why then does the CBN Act cite the President as the approving authourity for currency matters and other functions of the CBN as well? 2. You say Prez should have no control over CBN in a democracy. How then is he to manage the nations economy? What if CBN's policies conflict with his economic vision for the nation? What then? 3. If CBN Governor is performing poorly, who should censure him? 4. Who appoints the CBN governor? |
Add Jonathan, Tafawa Balewa (since he was head of government, Azikiwe was ceremonial), Abacha, Shonekan and Yaradua. |
Madam Kobojunkie, are you afraid to answer my simple question? |
Add the poll na? |
Its very simple. The CBN administers currency. If there are things it cannot do without the approval of the president concerning currency, then that simply means that the president has control in regard to those specific things. I think you are going round in circles. Settle down and alswer my simple question - Anyway based on the reasons i gave, do you agree that a President needs some measure of control over the CBN governor? |
Olodo. That is not a sack. In any suspension, someone must be appointed to act temporarily. |
manny4life:The law does isolate him. By saying that, I do not mean he is above the law, no, that is not what I am saying. What I am saying is that the law in its bid to ensure the independence of the CBN over-protects the Governor of the CBN from interference. 1. He has no clear reporting line. He does not report to the President in the same categorical manner that the Ministers do, for example. Yes, as part of the government, he still briefs the president, but there are no laws giving him a definite reporting line. 2. There are no laws defining how he may be removed from office. This makes him very difficult to touch. If any minister had doen half the things Sanusi has done, he would have been fired since. But that cannot be done to a CBN Governor because of the legal framework. |
Kobojunkie:It did. I extract in red below - According to the statement, the board of the CBN recognized and affirmed President Umaru Yar’Adua as the approving authority in matters relating to the denomination, form and design of the national currency as enshrined in Section 19 of the CBN Act, 2007. Are you avoiding this question still - Anyway based on the reasons i gave, do you agree that a President needs some measure of control over the CBN governor? |
Kobojunkie:He cancelled it, simple. And that was the end of the matter. I am surprised you did not hear of it. Soludo had already announced the redenomination before Aso Rock ordered it cancelled. http://www.nigeriansinamerica.com/forum/threads/presidency-directs-soludo-to-re-present-naira-redenomination.12614/ That's control. Anyway based on the reasons i gave, do you agree that a President needs some measure of control over the CBN governor? |
Ok, let's quit the yabbis and get serious. What is control? Control need not be absolute before it is called control. So long as one party can determine what another party does even in certain limited areas, then he is controlling him in those areas. Based on the reasons i stated above, yes, it is necessary for the president to control the CBN governor in some respects. Let me remind you of something that happened in the past. Soludo announced the redenomination of the naira before proceeding to the FEC the next day to inform the then President Yaradua. Yaradua was pissed off and stopped the plan. The reason he was pissed off was not because it was a bad plan. He was pissed off because there is no way in the world the president can be responsible for the country and then such a massive change in currency would be decided without even consulting him at all. He was informed just like the public was. And so he stopped it. Yes, that is control. We can't blame the president for our economic woes if we also seek to deny him control of the economy through the CBN. |
Kobojunkie:Think before you post. There are many sound reasons why a president must have some degree of supervision over a CBN governor. Here are some of them - 1. The CBN regulates the economy and as a regulator it is part of the Federal Govt 2. The President is the head of the Federal Government 3. The President has the over-all responsibility of running the country and guiding the economy, and as such he MUST have some degree of oversight regarding the direction that the CBN takes in its policies. Otherwise we could have a contradictory government, with the FEC pursuing policies and the CBN pursuing contradictory counter policies. 4. The CBN is the banker to the FG. As such, the FG is its customer, and the customer is KING. 5. The CBN governor is appointed by the president. 6. Most important, government policy must be aligned and uni-directional. You cannot have a CBN that effectively constitutes a parallel govt pursuing policies contrary to those of the FEC. |
So can anybody say if there is a legal means to remove him if the president so desires? |
