This is a very tricky one.

The Pixel 4XL has a slightly better processor performance largely due to its GPU.
The Pixel 4XL is like the Pixel phone with the best camera ever. You will have a hard time picking between the pictures from the 4xl and pictures from the newer pixel 6 pro's wide angle camera.
The Face Unlock feature of the 4XL is actually faster than that of the iPhone 12 but what I can't confirm for now is if it is as secured as that of the iPhone because, iPhone is considered to have the most secured face unlock tech.
The Pixel 4XL has an overall better display with higher PPI (over 500 PPI) and 90hz screen refresh rate. The 4a 5g has 60hz screen refresh rate.

The Pixel 4a 5g is newer and will receive more updates than the 4xl.
The world is gradually moving to 5g tech now so it will be nice to get a 5g device especially if you don't plan to change your phone any time soon. MTN will be launching the 5g network in Nigeria any time soon from the end of August this year.
The Pixel 4a 5g has a very good camera but not as good as that of the Pixel 4XL.
The Pixel 4a 5g has better battery life and it is a more compact device (if you prefer compact devices).

Wwll for pictures you can't go wrong with either. You'll do really good. Althought the 4a is technically newer, so the camera AI is better on it.

The face unlock is insanely fast, but only when you look at it. You can't use it at night. You can't use it in low-lit places. But when there's sufficient light, it works like a charm.

Since you like the earphone jack, you're good to go.

For processors, if you aren't a gamer, you have nothing to worry about. Both will do very well for your daily tasks. No stutter or lags, everything will run just fine.

FYI, we will get 5G next year hopefully, so the 4a 5G is future proof in a way too.

I'd take the 4a 5G.

Depends on what your preferences are. If you don't mind the refresh rate of the 4a 5g, go for it. It has better battery life, and should get one more OS update than the 4XL. However, if you want the smooth 90htz screen, but an average battery (you'll have to charge it at 2pm everyday. I know this because I used one extensively.. I literally just sold it to someone) then the 4XL is your guy. It's smooth, very good haptics, incredible camera (4a 5G is very slightly better tho), and guarantee of updates for the next 1 year.

If you have small hands and butter fingers, take the 4a.

You can handle something slighter bigger, take the 4XL.

No heavy gaming on both. It will eat shege into your battery.

Lol bro, 6% isn't a lot when it comes to choosing a device. Again, those battery tests were done the moment the phone came out, and as such, the AI has not fully worked out how to maximize battery for the user yet.

The pixel 6 has great battery life, I don't see why it's a problem. The phone just came out bro. Battery degrading takes at least a full year before you start noticing signs of degrading. Especially with androids. I used a P6P for about 1 month and the 6 too. The battery is actually very good. You can get 7-9hrs SOT with it.

Lastly, most of the phones aren't used the way you think. It's mostly open-box which has not been used like that. People sell after 2 weeks of use, not using the phone like Nigerians till the life is dead before they sell.

This is exactly it, I would recommend buying a UK used from a trusted dealer than buying most of these so called brand new.. if you know, you know.
