Email we sent to Gem
Good Day Sir/Ma, I applied for the World Bank sponsored program in Nigeria tagged “Growth and Empowerment Program” (GEM), a project being supervised by the Ministry of Trade and Investment in Nigeria. I started this journey as far back as 2016 and my tortuous expedition is highlighted as follows: August 12, 2016 – Got invitation to attend an orientation/Induction at …. August 24, 2016 - Underwent the Orientation/ Induction Workshop. It took Gem 11Full months to release the result of induction.Gem is using 2 full years to review business plan submitted.I being to ask is it how the firm was trained to worked or is it corruption in the system? No timelines for project delivery.cant PWC learn from grant awarding institutions in other corrupt free countries in africa that deliver full project in year and achieved resoundable results like Tony elumelu foundation why did gem decide to frustrating the business of Nigerian youths. To me gem project is total failure in Nigeria.we are going to inform world bank detailing all dealings with gem with evidence and proof that lies and deceit cannot counter. for avoidance of doubt read"Why is Aso Villa Demo Day/GEM grant stalled? https://punchng.com/why-is-aso-villa-demo- daygem-grant-stalled/ publish 31th august more are still coming follow by protest. However, since submitting my Business Plan, the only correspondence I have received from the organizers of the GEM program was on the 6th of February, 2018 promising that the Business Plan results would be available and released latest 8 weeks after the date of the mail. Sadly, till today 25th of August, 2018, more than 2 years since I started this journey, I am yet to see any definitive progress concerning my application, be it in form of an acceptance or rejection. Indeed, not a single entrepreneur in my assigned center for In-Class Training, , has achieved anything worthwhile as it pertains to assessing the funding that the program promised. Aside the correspondence quoted above, I have not received any other mails, calls or messages from their office as it pertains to the progress or otherwise of my application. Simply put, I am firmly stuck in limbo, despite the fact that I have burst a gut to scale all the hurdles that I have been confronted with as it pertains to assessing the required funding. My business needs this grant to move to the next level as I believe that I have the qualification and facilities, and I have proved myself during the arduous journeys of the training, and I am yet ready to prove myself even further in any test of your chosen. This is a humble plead to let my business benefit from this scheme if I have by my hard work merited it. I am writing to your office because all efforts to obtain any concrete information from the GEM office have proved abortive. I am pleading that you use your humble office to come to the aid of myself and other Nigerians like me, whom are deserving of this opportunity but do not have people in ‘high places’ to ‘push our files’. Thank you in anticipation of a prompt response

SNAKE SWALLOW N10 BILLION WORLD BANK GRANTS MEANT FOR EMPOWERING UNEMPLOYED GRADUATES AT FADAMA CO-ORDINATING OFFICE ABUJA.
About N10 billion world bank money meant to empower unemployed graduates as grant to start up Agric-business has been swallowed up by a mystical green snake at FADAMA CO-ORDINATING office at Abuja. Last year (2017) when our country Nigeria was in the heat of recession, the World Bank in a bid to help the country to diversify her economy and promote Agriculture, dose out N10 billion to the Federal Government as start-up grants for graduate youths who have interest in Agriculture to be empowered to invest in Agric-businesses. About 300 graduates each were screened, selected and trained by the FADAMA CO-ORDINATING OFFICE ABUJA from the 23 states that were to benefit from the first phase of this program which was tagged Fadama Graduates unemployed youths and women Scheme a. k. a FADAMA GUYS. Unfortunately after the rigorous screening processes and training of beneficiaries that ended with their opening of bank accounts specifically for the disbursement of funds as instructed by the FADAMA National CO-ORDINATING OFFICE ABUJA with high hopes that each beneficiary will be credited with at least N1.5 million, before the farming of this year begins, FADAMA CO-ORDINATING OFFICE ABUJA has failed to live up to its promises. The farming seasons are almost over now and there has been serious anxieties and agitations in the hearts of those who were shortlisted as successful candidates to benefit from the first phase of this world bank program as no kobo has been disbursed to anyone. No updates have been given as to what happened to the money or status of the disbursement. From all indications it is like another Snake has swallowed N10 billion at FADAMA CO-ORDINATING office Abuja this time again.

A cry of a helpless graduate(to benefit from FADAMA GUYS program initiated by world bank)

SPREAD THIS INFORMATION TO ALL OUR FADAMA GUYS FORUM----

The only English we will not tolerate is patience.... We will appreciate meaningful suggestions from all in order to achieve our long delayed grant...
If it will not be disbursed, it's better we know than to toil with us the youths.....
I served in agbor delta state (2015 batch A) and was told that my state allawee must be complete though I received for only three months..... "nysc will never take your money", patience the state coordinator told us that it will come... This is three years and counting and we are still waiting......
Did you here about you win 2015? The money is still on hold and so many other grants/promissory.

There's only one statement of sen. Dino Melaye I do much like If you talk, you die... If u don't talk, you will still die: so why don't I talk and die
It's better we protest, it's better we are told that the grant is cancelled than to leave us in suspense.
GUYS, I say we grab our destines in our hand

This group was created today, the major reason been that we are not happy in the patience syndrome preached by many.... So if u are with us, get other like minded fellows and soonest we will kickstart with our first agenda...

we will prevail

WE CHOOSE TO SAY NO

N9 billion was disbursed by the World Bank to Fadama’s account in 2017 to fund a programme tagged Fadama III Guys.

We are still waiting for the disbursement till today (a year and two months). Participants, what we are demanding is not farfetched, it is our right and money that needs to be disbursed so that we will create a better environment.

Nigeria belongs to all of us and we must all come together to put an end to corruption of any form. Delayed disbursement is disbursement denial. It is high time the government agencies, private institutions and all other pressure groups come to our aid.

As it is now, there is no time to check time. And the only language we understand is disbursement – nothing else.

World Bank assures FADAMA GUYS beneficiaries of funds disbursement
The World Bank, through the FADAMA III Additional Financing (AFII) Programme, says funds will soon be disbursed to the beneficiaries of the Graduate Unemployment Youths Support Scheme (FADAMA GUYS).

Dr Adetunji Oredipe, World Bank Task Team Leader (TTL) of the FADAMA Programme, gave the assurance in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that FADAMA GUYS was the special programme designed to empower youths and women who were trained in their chosen enterprises.

“We are working around the clock to make sure that we are able to raise funds to support the approved business plans.

“We are working with Federal Ministry of Finance to get what we call reallocation; that is putting money under appropriate category where it can be utilised for the purpose we have already identified.

“As soon as we come out of that, FADAMA GUYS beneficiaries out there should be rest assured that we will not waste time in disbursing the funds to them.

“We have applied to the Federal Government, through Federal Ministry of Finance, for permission to reallocate funds from other categories like consultancy, training, civil works into the grants and funds category.’’

Oredipe said that any moment from now, funds disbursement would start, particularly to those beneficiaries who would engage in rainy season agricultural activities, because they had completed the grants agreement and submitted their land documents.

“We will work with the planting period and when it is late, they will have to wait for the next planting period.

“We are sorry that this programme did not go as planned but I want to assure you that it will come to pass,” he said

The task team leader said that the objective of the programme was to partner with government in areas of job creation and capacity building, while keeping the foreign exchange rates low.

“We are making sure we import low quantities of rice and tomatoes, while putting less pressure on our Naira (currency) so as to make our economy strong.

“Anytime from now, you will be able to see our support at the state level and FADAMA GUYS beneficiaries will start receiving the funds which they have been waiting for.

“If I receive a go-ahead from government today; within two weeks, we will be able to finalise the process and the disbursement will start immediately,’’ he added.

NAN reports that the 23 participating states of FADAMA GUYS are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Ogun and Ondo states.

Others are Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
