I Observe that my fishes grow faster between 10am and 3pm than early morning and evening time. But I read an article that place emphasy on night feeding for better weight gain.

Infact, I suspect that your water quality is low. Your fishes ought to be consuming 15kg of feed in 2 to 2.5 days at that age. Do not let any feed be left over on the water surface. Let them consume every feed pellet per time. Change your water as soon as you perceive odour from the pond. Pls dont be hesitant. Experience speaks!

Thanks boss for the response. The new stock is 500 fingerlings not juvenile. So help to recalculate the total number of bag of feeds and their sizes to feed them to melange and grow out. Since i cant do flow through and no aerator, i guess i will construct another pond and do grow out. Also help with the current selling price of melange and grow out. God bless you.

Hello sir, first of all over crowding is ruled out with that size of pond, there are some factors that could have made him ran at a loss. E.g Bad seeds (fingerlings, juvenile) poor water management, bad local feed formulation, price of fish..

@ robonski15 et al, my friend lost about 40k after 4 months when he stocked about 500 fishes in a 18ft x 12ft x 3ft concrete pond. He fed them with local feeds after consumption of foreign feeds for 2 about months. I can't profer solution 'cos i don't know much about concrete ponds. I assured him that i'll ask proffessionals in nairaland forum. Pls, help me out!

Thank God. If d reminant are up to 1k. I advice that u have another pond so as to regulate d stock density. Your pond dimension may not support 1k fishes for optimum growth. CHANGE YOUR WATER at least once a week or practice flow-through system. Good luck.

Hello Hous. Finally I have started my small fish farm but I need help. Pls dont mind me, a beginner. I stocked my fish on Sunday and started feeding on Monday morning. As at date, I have recorded mortality of almost 100. I stocked I350 in a pond of 8by16 feet pond. (Concrete). I called my supplier and he said I should treat the fish with injection powder, salt, ampiclox and chlorophenicle. (I hope I spelt it well) He also said I should use vital plus as well. I just did that today and am praying things improve soon. Pls what could have been the cause? What am I doing wrong. I feed the fish with 1.8 coppens.

Pls, drain the pond by covering the pipe mouth with net. Pick out the dead.
Separate the weak from healthy ones.
Put them in separate bowls containing little amount of water. Apply procaine penicilline(injection powder). Pour out the water after 2-3mins and re-stock d healthy ones first, then d unhealthy after 15-20hrs or 1day.

Cover the mouth of the hose/pipe with net in order to leave fingerlings undrained.

Zeigler fish feed is better than any other as robonski15 has said. But due to its scarcity in Ibadan. I advice that you buy Skretting fish feed.
You may connect Pastor Niyi Adenikinju (08052011955, 08063351602). Tell him to supply you 'good' fingerlings/juveniles. I may give you a feed seller no. for current feed price later.
