Phones › Re: The Rise Of Water-resistant Phones: A Game-changer In Mobile Technology by Rictus1: 3:10pm On Aug 31, 2025 |
IheomaAkparanta: Water-resistant phones have become increasingly popular in recent years, and it's easy to see why. With the IP69 rating becoming a standard feature in many flagship and mid-range devices, phone manufacturers are prioritizing durability and water resistance. But what exactly does IP69 mean, and which phones are leading the charge?
Understanding IP Ratings
IP stands for Ingress Protection, a rating system that measures a device's resistance to solid particles (dust) and water. The rating consists of two numbers: the first digit represents dust protection, while the second digit represents water resistance. For instance, IP68-rated phones can withstand submersion in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. However, it's essential to note that IP ratings apply to freshwater in controlled lab conditions, and saltwater, chlorinated water, or high-pressure water can still damage devices.
Every brand in Nigeria right now is doing their best to incorporate water resistance into their devices. Phones like the Tecno Spark 40, realmeC75 & C75X, the Samsung S25, you name it. The least waterproof rating on any newly released phone in Nigeria now is the IP54 and the highest is the IP69. It's fun to see phone adverts including intentionally dropping phone in water, freezing phones, putting phones under running water and all sorts of weird water tests to prove how resistant to water these phones are. Like how did we get here?
Benefits of Water-Resistant Phones
Water-resistant phones offer several benefits, including: - Increased Durability: With water resistance, phones can withstand accidental splashes, rain, or brief submersion in water. - Peace of Mind: Water-resistant phones provide users with confidence in their device's ability to withstand unexpected water exposure. - Enhanced Camera Capabilities: Water-resistant phones enable users to capture photos and videos in wet conditions or underwater.
The rise of water-resistant phones has revolutionized the mobile industry, offering users increased durability and peace of mind. With top brands like Apple, Samsung, realme, Tecno and other popular brands incorporating water resistance into their devices, it's clear that this feature is here to stay. Whether you're an avid photographer or an outdoor enthusiast, water-resistant phones are definitely worth considering. So tell me would you be getting a water resistant device? Does the water resistant trend appeal to you? it does o. This raining season is not for the weak |

doointernationa: Thanks for sharing. This was well explained. Many can't differential. I see a lot putting phones with IP64 into water I believe that even tho phones with IP69 that can be submerged in water and still work fine doesn't mean you should dump it in any body of water you see |

Phones › Re: Budget Phones Have Leveled Up — My Experience With The realme C75x by Rictus1: 10:52pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Desewa08: A few years ago, if you were buying a “budget phone”, you knew what to expect: – Weak cameras – Laggy performance – Battery that couldn’t last a day – Maybe even heating issues So when I saw the realme C75x getting hype for under ₦180K, I didn’t expect much. I just wanted something I could use daily without worrying if it would survive life in Nigeria but this phone honestly surprised Mlme. After 3 weeks of use, I’m genuinely impressed: • Display – 6.67" HD+ with 120Hz refresh rate. I thought 120Hz was overhyped until I tried it... scrolling feels buttery smooth. • Performance – Helio G81 Ultra chipset, 8GB RAM. Multitasking is super fluid. No stutters, even switching between heavy apps. • Battery – 5600mAh lasts me 1.5 to 2 days easily. I watch YouTube, scroll socials, even play light games. No stress. • Charging – 45W Fast Charge. About 90 minutes from 0 to 100%. You blink and it’s charged. • Design – I got the Oceanic Blue variant. It doesn’t look cheap at all. People keep asking if it’s over ₦250K. Features I didn’t expect at this price Some little things that shocked me: – It runs Android 15 with realme UI 5 – Face Unlock + Side Fingerprint work crazy fast – IP69 rating! This thing is waterproof, dust-resistant and drop-resistant (I’ve tested it 😅) All this at ₦171,000. I can’t lie, budget phones are no longer what they used to be. This is a solid midrange experience in disguise. What I Gained with the C75x For ₦171,000 I got: – Peace of mind – Solid battery life – Modern OS (Android 15) – A rugged phone that doesn’t need a case every second – And a phone I can actually use for more than 2 years. That’s value. No bragging rights but at least I’m not borrowing power bank every 6 hours. So I ask... Which Would You Choose Now? In 2025, the lines are getting blurry. Some budget phones now offer better overall daily experience than aging flagships... especially if you value battery, updates and durability. I also know that not everyone will agree. So over to you: What are you using now and why? Would you go for a solid new phone like C75x or a used iPhone/Samsung flagship? Let’s have a proper debate I can relate to the shock. When buying phones below 200k we tend to not expect much but realme is always shocking is back to back. Even the camera quality of their phones are good |
