Around 200, 000 volunteers across the 36 states of the Nigerian federation plus the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are participants in a scheme the Muhammadu Buhari administration prides as one of its major achievements.

The duration these pioneer beneficiaries ought to spend have elapsed, but they are told to continue.

Batch A beneficiaries of the Federal Government's N-Power initiative have already started receiving stipend payment for the month of October, Concise News can confirm.

A graduate beneficiary of the scheme, Shola Yusuf who shared the update with this online news medium on Tuesday afternoon disclosed that the outstanding one month was paid.

Another beneficiary, simply identified as Maryam, a Batch A volunteer also corroborated Yusuf's claim.

Earlier, sending a message to the government, Ademeso Temitope of Batch B told Concise News: "The government should continue with their good deed; The Lord will reward them as they continue to help the youths."

The Department of State Services (DSS) are said to have freshly grilled human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore over alleged affinity with outlawed groups: Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Boko Haram terrorists and the principal Shiite movement in Nigeria, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Concise News understands.

As per Premium Times Nigeria, Sowore was questioned last week over purported ties to IPOB and other outlawed groups.

“Agents have been asking him to tell them about his relationship with Boko Haram, Islamic Movement of Nigeria and the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra,” a source revealed on Sunday.

A popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sulaimon Faruq (Onikijipa) last Sunday warned Sheikh Basit Ketu the earth will consume him if he ‘failed to honour’ the anthem of the Institute of Arabic and Islamic training Center, Morkaz, Agege, Lagos.

Concise gathered that Faruq was invited to a programme by a close ally of Basit’s father, Sheikh Moshood Ramadan Jibreel to share from his wealth of knowledge.

At the beginning of his speech, the Kwara-born preacher recited the anthem of the famous ‘Morkaz Agege’, a learning institute founded by late Sheikh Adam Abdullah Al-Ilory, a revered Islamic propagator.

N-Power: Batch A Beneficiaries’ October Stipend ‘Withheld’

Beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s N-Power scheme have started receiving payment since Tuesday, Concise can confirm.

However, it was observed that only November payment was settled (N30,000) for the pioneer beneficiaries – the Batch A who were recruited in 2016.

Most of their colleagues who are Batch B received stipends for double months (October and November). A Batch B volunteer, Ademeso Temitope confirmed this to Concise.

The volunteers – numbering thousands – are being owed October stipend.

Why the government decided to pay November before October remains a riddle.

Earlier, Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development had promised last week that beneficiaries will be settled their ‘backlogs’ (including the twelfth month) on or before 20th of December. An N-Teach volunteer, Segun Abiri has written the Federal Ministry Of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHDSD) expressing his frustration at the ‘silence’ regarding the non-payment of volunteers’ October stipend, Concise News reports.

N-Teach is one of the components of the N-Power scheme. It is also the most popular.
It would be recalled that the National Social Investment Programmes NSIP (a programme the N-Power scheme is one of it’s elements), which was formerly under the office of the vice-president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and managed by Hajia Maryam Uwais, special adviser to the president on social intervention, was moved to the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development on October 1.

A social media campaign, #NpowerPayOurOctoberStipend is starting to move quickly on the cyber space as beneficiaries of the Federal Govenrmnet's N-Power protest the non-payment of their stipend.

Concise News reports that today (Wednesday) makes it the 50th day since a chunk of the beneficiaries nationwide received their last monthly pay. This, according to a volunteer of the scheme who prefers not to be named. The volunteer said N-Power paid September stipend October 8th.

The social media network of the Federal Government's N-Power scheme has been 'bombarded' by beneficiaries who continue to demand their October stipend.

Concise News observed that many volunteers of the component of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) have stormed the official Twitter and Facebook pages of the scheme to ask that they are paid the money owed.

Introduced in 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari, the N-Power Programme is a graduate and non-graduate job enhancement scheme.

The objective is to enable them acquire the requisite skills, knowledge and experience for entrepreneurship and self sufficiency at the culmination of their tenure on the programme.

The N-Power beneficiaries are then provided with N30, 000 (approximately 83 US Dollars) monthly stipend and devices to aid their learning and skills development.

The minister of youth and sports, Sunday Dare says the Federal Ministry of Finance "is yet to drop the funds needed to pay the new allowance," hence the non-implementation of the N30,000 Minimum Wage for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

Nigerian right full-back, Bakare Abayomi has said that the Major League Soccer (MLS) will "definitely miss" Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Abayomi, 24 who plays for Houston FC in the United States’ USL League Two stated in an interview with RidwanAdeola on Sunday that the Swede who recently announced his departure from the US league has succeeded in raising the performance bar in the MLS.
"The MLS will definitely miss Zlatan. We do not have too many players of his calibre plying their trade in the US at the moment, not to forget that Zlatan is a top player who is known for being controversial and always getting a lot of media attention worldwide which he brought here of course.

Bayelsa State governorship election results from the local governments, as announced by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have started coming in.

Concise News had earlier reported latest governorship election results from polling units and wards.

Forty-five candidates are running for the highest office in the south-southern state, with electorates expected to vote in the 8 local government areas (LGAs) that make up the 23-year-old State.

But the battle, based on available results, show that David Lyon, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are the frontrunners.

Lyon is a businessman and oil magnate, while Diri is the senator representing Bayelsa Central senatorial district of Bayelsa state at the Nigerian 9th National Assembly.

And for the first time since 1999, it seems as though the PDP will be usurped.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of two persons while six others sustained injuries in an accident involving 17 vehicles at the old Toll Gate, Sango-Ota, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Concise News reports that the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, told NAN in Abuja, that the accident happened at about 12.54am on Friday.
