In a bid to solve the prevalent problem of mosquitoes in some areas in India, LG Electronics has started selling ‘mosquito-repelling’ televisions in India, labeling them bug-free TVs. The TVs started selling around mid-June, according to Reuters, and have been confirmed to actually repel mosquitoes by an independent lab in India. Here is how it works: The TVs use a technology called ‘Mosquito Away Technology’, which emits ultra-sonic sound waves above the frequency range of we humans, but within the frequency range of the mosquitoes. These ultra- sonic waves kinda sound scary to the mosquitoes, and scares them off. Since the waves have a frequency level above ours, the process won’t cause noise to disturb us when watching TV. This new piece of technology is exciting as it gives us the opportunity to watch TV without having to be dodging mosquitoes or attempting to kill them. If you’ve lived in an area where mosquitoes are ever-present even after all visible entry points have been sealed off, you’d know what I’m talking about. These bug-repelling televisions are available as flat screen TVs in 32-inch and 43-inch variants, with prices of $394 and $706 respectively. That is about Rs 26,398 and Rs 47,302 respectively in India. For now, the devices are only on sale in India, with LG to start selling the device in Sri Lanka and the Philippines in July, and possibly to other areas later on. The company claims that the technology works whether the TVs are on or off. They however advise people to use other forms of mosquito repellents also, and not depend solely on this. Source: http://www.gadgetsng.com/2016/06/fathers-day-2016-5-gadgets-buy-dad.html Every third sunday of the month of June, we all rally around to celebrate an important event: Father’s Day. This year’s celebration is no different. Father’s Day 2016 in Nigeria and worldwide is on June 19, 2016. And while you’re looking for the best gifts to give your dad in this year’s celebration, we’ve pieced together the best gadgets you can gift your dad for Father’s Day 2016. So whether your dad is tech- oriented or not, and if you’re looking for new gift types to give to your dad apart from the normal, these 5 gadgets will certainly please your dad. 1. Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 Laptops The Dell Inspiron 7000 range of 2-in-1 laptops are great for all laptop lovers, and dads are not excluded. These devices run on both Android and Windows, and its detachable display makes it easily movable and usable... 2. Game Consoles Though most of the gaming nowadays is done with smartphones and tablets that are easy to carry around, some people like me still love game consoles. You know, that feeling you get when you sit in front of the wide-screen TV, completely lost in the football or RPG game, thinking out ways to beat your opponent and emerge victorious… believe me, some people still love it. Particularly, people with large hands don’t enjoy gaming with smartphones at all. So if your dad is a game-loving type with large hands, you may want to get him a complete gaming console set this Father’s Day... 3. Smartphone Projector Yes, that’s exactly what it’s called. A Smartphone Projector. A smartphone projector is a device that allows you to display the screen of your smartphone on virtually anything, the way movie projectors do. If your dad is a movie lover or video freak, getting this device could make him happy this season.... 4. Car Charger You’ve probably heard of these one, and you probably have one in your father’s car right now. But wait, have you heard of a car charger for your LAPTOP? Probably not. New technology products are unfolding everyday and this is one of them. With Targus Car Charger for Laptop & Tablet, available on Jumia, you can charge your laptop and smartphone at the same time without compromising charging time and quality. Your father would surely be delighted to have one of these in his car! 5. Car Fuel Shark Saver This a new device that is set to change the way our cars consume fuel and battery power. It increases fuel mileage and reduces increases horsepower, leading to reduced fuel consumption and longer battery life. One more thing I noticed about this device(it’s currently installed in my dad’s car, so I know) is that it increases the overall performance of a vehicle in all sections. Within two weeks of installation, my dad’s car audio was already sounding like the amplifiers used in concerts and music jams. The fuel shark is available in most stores and shops that sell related products in Nigeria, and is available on Jumia at the best price. So, which of these gadgets are you giving your father this Father’s Day? Or do you have any other device in mind? Let me know in the comments section below..... See what this issue of Tomato and Pepper scarcity has turned me to o. I almost caused a pot of stew to get spoilt between yesterday and today because of my greed. It's not totally my fault though, it's this stupid pepper scarcity in the country. Let me explain myself to you more. You see, I'm a die-hard lover of stew. If I don't eat stew and something at least once in a week, I'll be very miserable. But since this Tomato and Pepper scarcity started, we rarely cook stew in our house again. Me sef don resign say I go dey chop rice and spaghetti and macaroni and the rest with watery soup or Efo, at the least. But whenever there is some raw pepper in the house, I always fight so that we'll be able to make stew. Most times I'm not successful, but the few times I finally succeed to cook stew, I usually guard it like it's a lifeline. In fact, the second to the last pot of stew we ate, I cooked it around 2 in the midnight, cos if I didn't do that, my mom would use the pepper for something else when she wakes up. That's to show how much I love stew. And there's something else we love eating so much in our house....RICE! Ok, maybe we all don't love eating it, but I do love it when it's served with stew, and even if we don't all love it we eat it most times. We don't go two days without eating rice at least once. If we don't eat rice today, we would eat it tomorrow, and if by chance we couldn't eat it tomorrow, we would eat it consecutively for the next three or four days. Oya lemme cut the long story short. So on Sunday, we cooked rice and ate it with the stew I painstakingly made. Then it was remaining stew for just one person. I was so sad, so I started making plans to ensure I'm the one to eat the remaining stew. Note that we're five in the family. So yesterday Monday, we didn't cook rice, so I assumed that we'd cook it today. And if we were to cook it today, chances are that we'd cook it in the morning or night, and there was a big fat chance that my mum would cook the rice in the morning. And you see, there's something else 'bout me; I'm a die-hard sleeper. My earliest waking time when I'm not woken up by someone else, is 1pm, and when I'm woken up by someone else, 11am. So I knew that if my mum cooked the rice in the morning, someone else would eat the stew, and I'd have to eat my rice with miserable Efo. So I made a plan. I took the pot of stew and hid it under a platform in the kitchen, and then covered it with a poly bag. There, nobody could see it, and then when I wake up in the morning, I'd simply stroll to the kitchen, dish my rice and ladle my lovely stew on it, complete with cold(if Nepa brings light) malt from the fridge. And then I went to sleep happy at the success of my little plan. Now this morning, I was woken up by my mom and brother calling me to come and join in the house cleaning. I was so annoyed to be woken up from sleep that early(around 10:30am!) so I didn't even remember food. It was around 11:30 that I remembered that I had not eaten and then I remembered that my rice would be waiting for me in the kitchen. I strolled into the kitchen only to find hot pap(ogi) waiting for me. I glanced at the table and saw akara in a bowl. Oh Jesus! Akara and ogi again Anyway, I went to the place where I hid my stew and took it out. As I opened it, the smell that greeted my nose made me almost spit in the pot. White stuff was already forming on the stew inside the pot. Oh my dear stew! I immediately ran to my mom, forgetting that I initially hid it from her. When she saw me with the pot of stew, she was surprised and asked me where I saw it. Little did I know that the stew was meant to be warmed yesterday and when she wanted to warm it, she couldn't find it cos I had already hidden it. She told me to immediately light the cooker and warm it. At last, the stew was saved. There it is! The greed and selfishness for the stew almost caused me to spoil stew that could be enough for one whole person. And maybe two small children. Na here I still dey o, waiting and hoping that we'll cook my dear rice in the night and the stew would still be alright for me to eat. You may laugh and jibe all you can about my story, but I've surely learnt one lesson: Greed and selfishness are not good, even when 3 pieces of Tomato sells for N500 in the market. Shikena! |
