A principal suspect arrested in connection to the brutal rape and murder of Uwaila Omozuwa says his gang was paid N1 million. The 22-year-old first-year student of the University of Benin, was raped and fatally wounded while reading inside a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish on May 27, 2020. The Edo State Police Command paraded Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Tina Samuel, Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien, and Collins Ulegbe as suspects on Wednesday, August 26. Osabohien, a phone repairer, was the first to be arrested by the police because he bought Uwa's phone for N17,000, prompting him to lead authorities to Ulegbe who's been identified as the principal suspect. Ulegbe confessed to striking Uwa with the fire extinguisher that has been identified as the murder weapon and left at the scene of the crime. He named Ogbebor and Valentine as other suspects who were similarly at the scene of the crime with him. They both denied their involvement. Ade, identified as the mastermind, allegedly offered the sum of N1 million to the gang to kill Uwa for ritual purposes. She denied the allegation and said she would prove her innocence in court. Three days after he was rearrested, the suspected serial killer in Oyo State has revealed how he escaped from police custody and went back into the dastardly act for which he was apprehended earlier. Nineteen-year-old Sunday Shodipe made the revelation on Wednesday when he was paraded along with other criminal suspects at the Police Command Headquarters in Ibadan, the state capital. Those also paraded by the police include members of a robbery gang suspected to have perpetrated the bank heist in the Okeho area of Ibadan, as well as some suspected kidnappers among others. During a chat with reporters, Shodipe who spoke in Yoruba disclosed that he went back to Akinyele Local Government Area, where he was said to have killed some residents, to perpetrate another killing on the instruction of his handler. He said, “My escape from police custody was masterminded by my handler, a herbalist known as Mr Idris Adedokun. When we were together in the cell, he called one of the police officers – one Inspector Funsho to allow us take a bath. “Inspector Funsho did not allow us, but after three days, my handler assured me that he had everything under control and that I would soon be able to take my bath and run more errands for him. “He later told Inspector Funsho that he needed dry gin as a herbalist for his personal use but he was denied access to such luxury in detention. My handler’s lawyer came to the police station in Mokola and took N200,000 from him to hold brief for him.” The suspect added, “My handler told me that my confession landed us in trouble, that I should not have confessed. After my escape, I went back to Akinyele on my handler’s instructions and matchetted another woman but she did not die in the process. “While on the run, I usually go to Bodija market with caps to hide my identity because I knew I was wanted by the police. I do not know those who captured me but I suspected when they asked for my help to push their car but I didn’t run. “I was not at rest because I knew the police were after me. I was caught along Bodija but I live in Moniya.” Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CEXW-CQIYhg/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

A mother has died in an accident that occured while police officers were allegedly chasing a "Yahoo boy" in Benin. Mrs Grace Obajay, 29, was in an Uber with her one-year five months old baby, when a car rammed into them, flinging the baby out of the car, knocking the mother out, and also causing injuries to the Uber driver. According to Vanguard, the car that rammed into them was driven by a suspected Yahoo boy being chased by police. The auto crash occurred along Airport Road, Benin City, Edo State, last Friday, August 21. The mum, who worked as a Secretary with Floret Systems and was only two months from celebrating her second year wedding anniversary, had ordered the Uber after she closed work for the day when the accident occured. She was left bleeding from the mouth and nose and was unconscious following the accident. Her son, who had been flung out of the window due to the impact of the crash, was badly injured and cried out. The Uber driver, named Precious John, was also badly injured and immediately called his elder brother for help. Speaking with Vanguard , elder brother of the Uber driver, Dickson John said, “I got a call from my brother at about 11 am. All he could mutter was ‘ come quickly, I’m dying, I can’t breathe, my chest, accident, airport road…, and the call ended. I tried reaching back to him but could not get him. “I was accompanied to the scene by one of my comrades, Godwin Esosa, where I saw my brother’s car stained with blood and fuel was dripping from its engine but there was no sight of him. “We gathered from eyewitnesses that a team of policemen in a carton colour Audi car was chasing a suspected yahoo boy in a Toyota Camry 2012 model. In his bid to escape from the police, he ran into my brother’s car which was just entering airport road from Saint Paul. The policemen never made an attempt to save them. Rather, they abandoned them to fate. “A Reverend father rushed the baby to Saint Philomena hospital for immediate attention, while my brother and mother of the baby were rushed to Faith Mediplex hospital for immediate medical attention. The yahoo suspect was rushed to the police clinic for treatment. Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CEYpwHnjKnJ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
