The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured the old students of the state’s premier secondary school, Edo College Benin City, that their alma-mater will be re-built.

Obaseki gave the assurance on Monday when members of Edo College Old Boys Association (ECOBA) led by their president worldwide, Dr. Reuben Osahon, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Benin City, the Edo State capital.

He assured that his administration would play its part as proprietor of the school, by reviewing its masterplan to determine the infrastructural requirement of the school.

The governor acknowledged the impact the school has made on the lives of Edo people and hailed various stakeholders that have contributed to its growth, as it celebrates 80 years of existence.

To address the challenges facing the school, he said that officials of the state ministries of education, physical planning and urban development, would work with other stakeholders to review the design and master plan of the school and refresh it.

On the encroachment on the college land, Obaseki said the survey plan of the school need to be re-established as encroachers will have themselves to blame as all the school’s land will be re-claimed.

“Government paid compensation on that land when it was acquired years ago, no community or individual has the right to violate government interest in that land. We are going to re-claim the land belonging to Edo College and it will be fenced,” he stressed.

Our attention has been drawn to a very provoking , nauseating and nonsensical article purportedly written by the Voice of Igbanke. Ordinarily, as a group of very responsible, learned, progressive and sane minded individuals we would have ignore it and treat it like as used tissue paper that should not be accorded with any value because the fictitious author was not bold enough to mention his name and who he is representing.

In the first paragraph of the said article, it was well asserted that the youths are leaders of tomorrow only if there is a succession plan , In as much as we agree with such dialectics but we take exception to all other facts stated therein and the intention of the writer. No society grow with the elimination of elders. They are citadel of wisdom and an embodiment of experience and their role in the development of the local community is very sacrosanct and If there is even any intention to totally remove the elders for taking us backward the succession plan we would clamour for will be for those who have never been a part of such backwardness. The old are actually going to give way to the younger generation as opined by the writer , but it is going to be a generation of very responsible youths. Youths who know the way, who can show the way and go the way. A youth who has proven worthy in the assignment given him to him before. A youth who respects elders. An intelligent , well enlightened, exposed and progressive youth. Youths with excellent spirit, youths with good moral and mental rectitude. Certainly, not bunch of unholy renegades who are desperate for Power, Money and influence to the extent of declaring war on their fathers.

M.K.O. Abiola Airport: Stop selling Osun property to your Lagos cronies, Civil group warns Aregbesola

Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has been warned against
selling the property belong to the good people of the State to his
Lagos friends and associates under the guise of Public Private
Partnership (PPP) and Concession arrangement, saying that such arrangement was not in the best interest of the good people of the
State but to expand the business and nvestment frontier of Aregbesola
and his cronies after leaving office in 2018.

A group of civil group in the State, the Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEOS) gave the warning on Sunday,while reacting to the recent announcement of the State government plan
to concede the M.K.O. Abiola Airport to a private Company, AWOL
International Investment at the tune of N69 billion, which the Company
would return it back to the State after 30years of sealing and signing
the self centred agreement.

The group which has been in the vanguard of being the voice of the
voiceless against the mis-governance of the present administration in
the State, however rejected the concession arrangement on the Airport by the State government and warned the the AWOL International
Investment against accepting such a Greek offer at the tail end of
Aregbesola’s administration, adding that the the next administration
would revoke such an illegal and anti-peoples agreement.

It said that the call became imperative because Aregbesola has been in the habit of prodigal leader of giving out the State property to his Lagos friends and associates which he could not give money, out of the State meager resources due to the present financial quagmire putting the state into by the present administration, noting that Aregbesola has dashed out landed property of the State like old Ministry of Agriculture and Natural resources, Ilobu road, Osogbo, demolished
Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Gbongan road, Osogbo and host of others to his Lagos associates at a cheaper rate.

This was contained in a statement issued by the group’s Directorate of Media and Strategy, which was signed by its Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi,Alimi Sulaiman and copies were available to newsmen on Sunday,called on Aregbesola to account for the N3.6billion earlier spent on the Airport project, alleging that Aregbesola has turned the different white elephant projects of his administration like Airport, Market and so on, into conduit pipe where the meager resources of the State were flight to Lagos State.

The group further alleged that the State government came up with the idea of concession the Airport project into the hand of private investment to cover up the mismanagement of N3.6 billion earlier claimed to be spent on the “nothing-to- show project”, calling on the rubber stamp State House of Assembly under the headship of Mr. Najeem salaam to investigate the acclaimed N3.6 billion wasted on the phantom project before the concession idea.

President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, stated that one of the primary objectives of the 8th National Assembly is to increase private sector participation in all spheres of the economy in order to make the country viable.

Saraki, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu, in Abuja, stated this while welcoming the Board of Directors of the United States (U.S.) Chamber of Commerce and the Africa Business Centre (ABC) during their courtesy visit to the leadership of the Senate at the National Assembly.

Other members of the delegation led by the ABC Co-Chair and Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, included the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, Chairman of Zenith Bank, Mr. Jim Ovia, President of the ABC, Mr. Scott Eisner and several other board members.

For over a year I have tried to give this APC administration a breather, hoping that they may somehow get their act together. For the record, governance has never been known to be an easy task, but it requires planning, open mindedness and a will to do the right thing. The Edo State House of Assembly on Monday approved a request by the executive to obtain a loan to purchase 75 buses for the state owned transport service.

The approval followed a letter sent to the house by Governor Godwin Obaseki requesting for approval to access a loan from the Bank of Infrastructure to purchase 75 buses for the state owned Transport Company.

The Government of Osun, Monday signed a partnership agreement worth $450 million with an American company on waste management.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the State Government and the American Green Environmental Global Solutions ‎Nigeria Limited which was signed to render services on turning wastes to consumables took place at the Governor's office, Osogbo.

The partnership will create jobs, expand the economy, create a new dynamic economy in tourism and as well keep the environment clean.

Signing the MOU, the President of the Green Environmental Services of America (GESA) and America Green Environmental Solution Nigeria Limited (AGEGS), Patrick Onyeije ‎disclosed that the machineries and building as regards the planned projects will take 8-12 weeks to be fully on ground.

The President of the company explained that the first phase of the projects will cost $250 million‎, assuring that the company is ready to commence operation soonest.

Onyeije, who was represented by one of the top officials of the of company, ‎Major Samuel Adewumi (rtd) said the partnership will help to improve the economy of the state as waste will be collected from tenants and homes and recycled for valuable products such as tissue papers, plastics and organic manure (fertilizer) for farmers.

‎Onyeije said with the partnership, a new era has begun in Osun on effective and efficient waste management.

According to the President, ‎"Today marks a great ‎and important historical beginning in the epilogues and annals of captivating history of our people in the State of Osun. By accepting the arduous but admirable responsibility to take care of our environment is a lofty ideal to behold and as such a new day is born.

"We are here to change the story on the environment with the enunciation of these wonderful projects of garbage and sewage collection.

"It is befitting that the State of Osun has been selected to lead the rest of the country towards an evolutionary approach of reclaiming our environment. One thing that we all have taken for granted right from the time we were born to the time we die is our environment.

"Today marks a new beginning as we take the solemn commitment to protect our environment. We have to do our little best not to litter the streets but to recycle everything coming out of our homes and working places. Every household will purchase various containers from AGEGS for different ‎items from the household for which they can recycle.
"These containers will be picked up from your homes on designated days of the week and may include weekends as the need may arise.
"On behalf of Green Environmental Services of America (GESA) and America Green Environmental Global Solution Nigeria Limited (AGEGS), we say a big thank you to the government of the state of Osun.

"It is with great pleasure and gratitude that we have accepted to begin these great projects here in Osun. This amazing state, though small but mighty, has the propensity and foresight to always lead the way in innovations as the cradle of ingenuity making the state of Osun the pioneering state for the America Green Environmental Global Solutions in the whole of Nigeria, West Africa and Africa as a whole.

Aregbesola noted that in spite of the present economic challenges confronting the state, what cannot be taken away from his administration is the commitment to the environment.
