Sports / Why NFF Should Open Ladan Bosso’s Flying Eagles Role Following Peseiro And Ugbad by robosky02(m): 2:33pm On Mar 16
Why NFF should open Ladan Bosso’s Flying Eagles role following Peseiro and Ugbade’s

It’s evident that Nigeria’s U-20 teams, under Ladan Bosso’s leadership, have failed to meet expectations, especially when compared to the success of the senior national team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

As a seven-time holder of the U-20 AFCON trophy, the recent bronze medal finish in the 2023 tournament falls short of expectations.

Additionally, the disappointing quarterfinal exit at the hands of South Korea in the World Cup calls attention to the subpar performance of the U-20 teams.

The recent losses to Uganda and Senegal in the African Games, with only a single victory against South Sudan, further add to the concerns surrounding Bosso’s management.

Considering these poor results and performances, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) should consider declaring Ladan Bosso’s role vacant, similar to the actions taken with Nduka Ugbade and Jose Peseiro’s coaching positions.

Ugbade’s exit from the U-17 team came after failing to meet expectations, and a new coach is apparently needed to be considered to achieve better results.

Peseiro on the other hand, despite leading the senior national team to the final of the 2023 AFCON, saw his contract not renewed by the NFF.

However, the failure of the Nigerian Football body not been able to pay his salary from time to time is a good reason to let him go.

Bosso’s tenure has not produced satisfactory results, with only a bronze medal, a quarterfinal exit in the World Cup, and elimination from the African Games.

Appointing a new coach who can inspire and guide these young talents is crucial to align with Nigeria’s footballing aspirations.

By declaring Bosso’s role vacant, the NFF can open opportunities for fresh perspectives and approaches, aiming to revitalize and elevate Nigerian youth football to greater heights.

What is. "Best"
That is unknowable theory

Best coach is.theory and fantasy
We need to be clear what we want from the coach
Is it short term of long term

I don't know what standard you use to rate Amunike ahead of him.

That may be true but it is just your subjective opinion not an undisputed fact.

Amunike comes first in the pecking order

Amunike has better experience

Coach African teams

Am not impress with this move
Why give finidi George an edge over the others who also applied

Do the interview ... and appoint the new coach now

If Finidi George leads then and they win this NFF will just appoint him but is he the best?

I think he will be good sometimes in the future but for now he is not ripe for super Eagles

With all standard Emmanuel Amunike is ahead of him for now.

At best appoint Amunike and let Finidi George assist

Finidi George is set to take charge of Nigeria's games against Ghana and Mali

The Super Eagles will have a new manager in the dugout when they take on the Black Stars of Ghana and the Eagles of Mali later this month.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to go into their clash against the Black Stars of Ghana and The Eagles of Mali with former Ajax star Finidi George as their coach.

Nigeria will take on their two West African rivals in a highly-anticipated friendly match, with the game against Ghana taking place on March 22 before they face Mali four days later, both in Morocco.

The three-time African champions, however, are currently without a coach ahead of the two clashes after former manager Jose Peseiro left the role after leading the team to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nonetheless, the Super Eagles will have a man in the dugout for the two matches, with Finidi expected to lead the team out for games.

As per multiple reports, the former Ajax star will manage the team for the two friendly matches as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) intensifies its efforts to find a permanent replacement for Peseiro.

Finidi George might take charge of the Super Eagles' friendly games this month against Ghana and Mali in Morocco.

Sources confirmed Finidi and Enyimba GK, Ojo Olorunleke will depart to Morocco after their NPFL midweek game against Remo Stars in Ikenne.

It was rumoured that NFF technical director Austin Eguavoen would take charge of the team, but that report has been shut down.

Finidi is no stranger to the team as he was one of Peseiro’s assistants at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

The ex-Real Betis man could still land the job permanently, though, as he is one of the leading candidates who applied for the job.

Banned Siasia, disgraced Salisu, Oliseh head list of potential candidates for Super Eagles job
The NFF has received multiple applications for the vacant Super Eagles managerial role, with Finidi, Emmanuel Amunike, Sunday Oliseh and Samson Siasia among the former internationals who applied for the job.

It remains to be seen who would land the coveted job, but Pulse Sports already reported that it is between Amunike and former Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao

Nigerians said their motto for 2024 is “No gree for anybody” then went ahead to prove it over and over!

Nigerians have shown very little love to their Cameroonian neighbors this year. It’s just the 3rd month of the year and Nigerians have broken the hearts of Cameroonians 3 good times without minding the fact that this nation has been supplying them with good pepper for more than 30 years now.

First, it was the super Eagles of Nigeria knocking out the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon from the World Cup tournament.

Then the Super Falcons went ahead to defeat the Indomitable Lionesses Of Cameroon, stopping them from qualifying for the CAF Women’s Olympic Tournament.

With the above heartbreaks, Cameroonians were so positive about using last night’s fight to get back at Nigeria since Anthony Joshua is of Nigerian origin... but then, Anthony Joshua Knocked Francis N’Gannou in just the 2nd round.

NFF declares Super Eagles coaching position vacant

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has declared the Super Eagles head coach position vacant.

Former handler of the side, Jose Peseiro officially left the post at the end of last month.

There were speculations that the NFF was still negotiating with Peseiro but the latest decision by the soccer house suggests otherwise.

Interested coaches, both expatriates and locals are now expected to submit their application to the NFF.

Peseiro guided the Super Eagles to second position at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The NFF also declared the position of the U-17 coach vacant.

Former Super Eagles defender, Nduka Ugbade was last in charge of the team.

•2009 : Most outstanding player in the NPFL (Sharks)
•2010 : WAFU Cup winner (Sharks)
•2013 : NPFL Player of the Decade (Enyimba)

Victor Okemka Ezeji is the most decorated footballer that ever graced the turf of Nigerian domestic league.

One wonders why this Uzuakoli (Abia State) born Accountancy graduate from UNIPORT, isn't on a major committee (say technical committee) of the NPFL

Ezeji was the first player to win the Top Scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards jointly in the NPFL.

Having excelled in the domestic front he took his game abroad for more exploits. Ezeji joined Tunisian club, Club Africain in 2008 and returned 12 months later due to unavoidable family challenges.

He featured for Sharks of Port Harcourt, Eagle Cement (Dolphins), Enyimba, Sunshine Stars and Heartland FC during his 20-year spell in the NPFL.

A brilliant left footer who reminds all of Croatian great forward. Davor Suker. Ezeji is skillful, sleek and sizzling on the ball. He was most dangerous when not with the ball.

A team player who operates in almost every position upfront. This earned him leadership roles in clubs he featured for. He was indeed a leader and Captain Fantastic.

Ezeji had 11 caps with the Super Eagles scoring fours. Perhaps he came too early. His time had great players in the team and he had to struggle to make an impact.

Players like Julius Aghahowa, Osaze Odemwingie, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Obafemi Martins, Victor Anichebe and Chinedu Obasi were in Super Eagles when Ezeji emerged but got muscled out by the presence of these players many of who were in Europe

However, Ezeji was a key member of Super Eagles squad that had a memorable WAFU tournament at the Gateway Stadium Abeokuta under coach Samson Siasia.

He should be a key member of technical or organising committee of the NPFL if really we are sincere with our football.

Rivers United will continue to fly Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup after they beat Dreams FC of Ghana 2-1 at home and bottom team APC Lobito of Angola did the a massive favour by holding Club Africain in Tunisia to a draw in Tunis.

Rivers United thus finished second in Group C on 12 points from six matches after group winners Dreams FC enjoyed a better goals difference.

Lobito of Angola pulled off a major surprise in Tunisia where they forced home team Club Africain to a 1-1 draw.

The Tunisians finished in third place on 10 points, while Lobito were bottom with a point.

Top 5 reasons why ex-Barcelona man Emmanuel Amunike should be Super Eagles’ next coach

The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, is looking for a new head coach for the Super Eagles following the exit of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro.

Peseiro was in charge of the Nigerian men’s national team for 22 months and led the three-time African champions to the final of the 2023 AFCON.

His contract expired at the end of that tournament, and he could not agree with the NFF on an extension, hence his departure.

Director of the NFF’s Technical Department, Augustine Eguavoen, has been named the Super Eagles interim manager until a new coach is appointed.

Several names are making the rounds as the potential successor to Peseiro, including former internationals Sunday Oliseh, Samson Siasia, George Finidi, and Emmanuel Amunike.

The following five reasons highlight why Amunike will be most suitable to be the next Super Eagles head coach.

Amunike was an excellent player
Amunike is one of the few Nigerian players who enjoyed success on both the African scene and the European stage.

In three years at Egyptian giants Zamalek, Amunike won two Premier League titles, the 1993 African Cup of Champions Clubs and the CAF Super Cup.

He was the only player in Nigeria’s 22-man squad to the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations – which the Super Eagles won – who was not playing in Europe or the domestic league or unattached. The winger was too exciting to be left out.

Amunike moved to Portugal after leaving Egypt and excelled there as well, helping Sporting to lift the Taça de Portugal in 1995.

Emmanuel Amunike
Emmanuel Amunike
He moved to Barcelona in 1996 and became the first Nigerian to play for the Catalans’ senior team. Injury stopped him from playing his best football in Spain, but he still won the Copa del Rey with Barcelona.

Amunike could even be called the destiny child of Nigerian football.

He scored two goals in the final of the 1994 AFCON that handed Nigeria the title, and it was good enough to earn him the Africa Footballer of the Year award.

Amunike also bagged two goals in Nigeria’s first appearance at the World Cup in the United States.

His second goal gave Nigeria the lead against Italy and almost secured the Super Eagles’ passage to the quarterfinals before Roberto Baggio took over the show.

Again, Amunike was Nigeria’s hero at the Olympic Games in Atlanta when he scored the winning goal in the 3-2 victory over Argentina in the final.

The former Barcelona ace was an excellent player who gave his all for his country.

Admittedly, great players do not always make great coaches.

Amunike is, however, an excellent coach
After an injury forced him out of football earlier than he would have liked, Amunike decided straightaway that the next chapter of his career would be written of him as a coach.

After passing his coaching courses, Amunike handled some youth teams in Spain and a few top clubs in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria before he was named the head coach of the Golden Eaglets in 2014.

Amunike put together arguably the best Golden Eaglets squad in Nigeria’s history and led them to win the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup.

Emmanuel Amunike
Emmanuel Amunike
His team scored the most goals at the tournament; Victor Osimhen hit a record ten goals, Kelechi Nwakali was named the best player, while Samuel Chukwueze and Kingskey Michael also impressed. All four have gone on to play for the Super Eagles.

Amunike stepped up to senior coaching when he was named the head coach of the Tanzania national team.

Tanzania had not qualified for the AFCON since 1980. Amunike got the Taifa Stars shining sparkling again and helped them seal qualification to the 2019 AFCON. He ended that adventure after Tanzania failed to pick up a point at the tournament held in Egypt.

Amunike understands Nigeria’s football culture
The last two foreign coaches NFF hired – Gernot Rohr and Jose Peseiro – did not enjoy much public support because they set up the Super Eagles to play defensive, reactionary football.

That is not the type of football Nigerians want to associate with their darling national teams, whether the Super Eagles or the Golden Eaglets.

The Nigerian football identity of spirited displays and relentless attacking-based style was forged in the 70s and 80s and peaked in the 1990s.

Emmanuel Amunike
Emmanuel Amunike
Amunike was part of that 90s generation; he knows what made the Super Eagles tick, and he is intelligent enough to fuse that culture with modern techniques to birth a national team that his compatriots would be proud of.

He is the best of the Indigenous coaches
Without meaning to demean any of Nigeria’s brilliant coaches, Amunike is the most suitably positioned to handle the Super Eagles.

Sunday Oliseh is a fine coach, but his previous stint with the Super Eagles put his man-management skills into question.

Oliseh had problems with the senior players in the team, scapegoated John Obi Mikel, and drove goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama into early retirement.

Samson Siasia would have been many people’s preferred option following his exploits handling the Flying Eagles and the Olympic Eagles.

However, the former Nantes star is still under a FIFA-imposed suspension.

Augustine Eguavoen’s pedigree is solid, but Nigerians are yet to forget how he led the team to a disappointing outing at the 2021 AFCON.

Eguavoen was also in charge when the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The pain of that aggregate defeat to Ghana still hurts.

George Finidi has been brilliant with Enyimba, leading them to the league title in his second season in charge.

The former Ajax winger was also Jose Peseiro’s assistant for 22 months, an experience that would have enriched his tactical and technical nous.

However, Finidi must prove his mettle with one of the nation’s youth teams before he can be trusted to make the step up to the Super Eagles.

This leaves Amunike as the only indigenous coach best fit for the national team at this time.

Amunike has proven his mettle
One of the reasons many Nigerians do not fancy former internationals taking charge of the Super Eagles is the issue of corruption.

There are often unsubstantiated reports of players bribing their ways to play for the national teams and coaches snubbing others who merit call-ups.

Victor Osimhen is the biggest example that shows Amunike is above that mess.

The Napoli striker had no godfather, had no previous links with Amunike, and played for no renowned academy when he was drafted to become the Golden Eaglets main man eight years ago.

Amunike will not be easily lured into corruption or manipulation.

His previous records also reveal that he will not be the coach the NFF will kick around or belittle. He will command a lot of respect from Super Eagles players, and there will be no issue with discipline in his team.

Amunike was in the Super Eagles squad that FIFA ranked the fifth highest in the world in 1994. His return as coach could see the Nigerian national team return to those enviable heights soon.

Why Jose Peseiro, NFF parted ways

More facts have emerged on why the Nigeria Football Federation and former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro parted ways.

Peseiro announced on Friday he is leaving his post as Super Eagles head coach after his contract officially ended on February 29.

According to SCORENigeria, the NFF were keen to retain the 63-year-old but the two parties could not agree on terms of a new contract.

The NFF proposed that the gaffer will be on the same $50,000 salary, while the Portuguese demanded a record monthly pay of $120,000 to continue on the job.

“He asked for $120,000 a month salary, but the NFF offered to pay him his current salary of $50,000 instead,” an NFF official informed SCORENigeria.

“That was where negotiations broke down.”

Peseiro was appointed Super Eagles head coach in May 2022.

The gaffer led the West Africans to second position at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Under his tutelage, the Super Eagles won 11, drawn four and lost seven out of 22 games.
