tendareo: Warri is like every other city in Nigeria. Just alittle underdeveloped when compared to cities like PH, Lagos, etc because of the negative mindset the nation in general have due to the then crisis in the region in the 90's.
The echoes of that incident is still like a dark shadow covering the city making everything and everyone there look depressed and hostile. Also its making visitors and investors think twice before coming or get scared unnecessarily.
If u ask my opinion, I will say that Nigerians should give that region a second chance at living. Warri has been stigmatized enough. Our general negative mindset about Warri isn't going to help at all. Its just like the world's mindset about Nigeria or Nigerians at large which doesn't in any way corelate with what actually goes on here... I hope you are getting my point and hopefully clear the rustic air about Warri.
Well, I have lived in Warri for a lot of years and I am happy to tell you that I have never experienced any violence whatsoever here. Even when I walked the lonely streets of the old airport road at midnight (1am is my current latest; which was due to an unprecedented situation with the public bus I boarded enroute Warri from Lagos some pretty years back). I was 'dead' afraid that day and as a lady, you know why I was but alas I got home very safe that night. I have seen foreigners (aside the Lebanese) walk around unaccompanied here without any fear. So if they can, why can't you?
In some other cities in different states including Lagos I have encountered violence but I don't go around screaming how violent those areas are.
In truth, it really has to do with your mindset. If you are expecting violence anywhere not just Warri you will most likely get it and vice versa. That is just the way it works.
Please I want to encourage us in general to feel free to visit places at any time we choose and stop spreading fear and rumour especially when we don't even know a thing about that place talk less of being there. Let's all just be careful and cautious in everything we do and we won't get into trouble...Yeah, its that simple.
Lastly, i was born, raised and still live in Warri and I love the place though I am not from here by origin but I love life, I love visiting places and Warri is a second home to me.
Warri is calm, its getting more organized, as a representative I will say we are nice if you are nice to us... Lol and our arms are wide open to embrace visitors. We are expecting you soonest. warri even more free and friendly than some so called cities in naija...imagine the first day I got to lagos I was asking for direction but nobody was willing and ready to direct me cos they see everone as threat..but in warri it Is a diffrnt thin the pple of warri have hospitality and love for visitors execpt u went there to show off. Even pple are migrating from the so called bigger cities in search for greener pastures and better opportunities in warri..many people knws wat am talking abt..simple truth |

lekwas: I am pained by this review of Warri. For any one who has never been there, it will sound and feel like an unexplored jungle.
Make una forget ds grammer. I be confirmed Warri and dis description is not the the Warri I know.
Was born in Odien Street Essi L/out; spent my early childhood in Agbaisi L/out- Marine Quaters Axis; my teenage years in the Deco/ Okumagba Avenue Axis. Later part of my teenage years was spent off Oil field Rd around Enerhen Junction, before moving finally to Sokoh Estate Road off Airport Rd.
Even though I have not lived in Warri for some years now, (was there in December, cos I have family and friends) Warri still hold a special place in my heart. This narrative on Warri is more of a disservice.
I agree that Warri has become a shadow of itself due to the self serving interests of recent governments, but I strongly believe that that city is the one TRUE metropolitan city in Nigeria. It does not matter what part on Nigeria or the world you come from, Warri was home to all.
All the 'Old Warri' and Wafarians on this platform, this might be a good time to share interesting facts about the city of our birth or even sojourn. Let's send a strong message to all those giving Warri a bad name for economic reasons. The days of restiveness are gone. Uvwie and Ekpan youths 'deve' era is not as prominent; Ibori's dusk to dawn curfew is over with. All the scary things that came with the prominence of Shell also gone as there is no more Shell-Edjeba.
Let's all stand up for Warri, let's stop those DBS and DRTv people from showing so so obito on Tv. This is the time for enlightenment and these comedians should either portray a good image of Warri or get discredited. My one pence worth #IRepWaffi old warri I hail. |

Bamz: Warri is lovely.
It could be better though if the resources were better utilised in the state. You could just imagine how long the flyover bridge at Effurun took to reach completion.
Warri has many hotels, LOL.
The people are homely, well I've lived with an Ijaw family, and I have Itsekiri friends.
You must have heard about Tompolo and Ayiri if you live in Warri.
If your pidgin isn't as fluent and spontaneous and you don't want to be 'found out', just rehearse what you need to say before saying it.
It seems most Warri chicks are dark. I've only seen one fair one. Well I don't go around much.
Oh and there's this unnerving consciousness about foreigners over there too in cases where your name is required and you're not an indigene.
Banga LOL, funny tasting stew, I've had it but my Ijaw friends wouldn't have me eat Starch for fear of the unknown.
I think Warri people like food a lot. Lol, not all of them ofcourse.
Just a low percentage of very rich people, a microcosm of modern day Nigeria.
There are no bikes in most areas but 3-wheelers are rife. -----------
I know the OP didn't just put up this topic , he's trying to sell something ofcourse, the Warri way. u be correct. |

ayindejimmy: AYIRI EMAMI URGES BUHARI TO END AMNESTY PROGRAM FOR EX MILITANTS
Ex Niger Delta militant and new APC billionaire stalwart Ayiri Emami, has called on President-elect Muhammadu Buhari to scrap the ongoing amnesty programme initiated by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua for ex-militants of the Niger Delta. Emami, now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and a former Itsekiri warlord, said on Thursday that Buhari should also probe the operations of the Amnesty Programme.
“If the layman’s understanding of the word amnesty is anything to go by, then it presupposes an arrangement where militants who genuinely turn in all their arms and ammunition are rehabilitated, re-oriented and trained with a view to reintegrating them to everyday societal living.
“In the ordinary sense of it, any person or group that picks up arms in the name of struggle or agitation ought to have been treated as terrorists, hence nobody or group should take the gesture of the federal government for granted.
“Amnesty should not be continuous; partially giving out money to youths from a particular ethnic nationality is wrong, sending some of them abroad for training without any visible impact on the Niger Delta and the nation at large is counter-productive,” he said.
His declaration was obviously in reaction to a recent call by the Ijaw Youth Council, demanding the continuation of the Amnesty Programme for Niger Delta youths.
