Bible1997:I seriously doubt that is genuine. Biometrics are actually required to process your application and you don't go for biometrics when you get to Canada. |
ITWizzy:I hope this already got resolved. My parents and siblings were enough. Didn't really have to 'prove' strong ties at home |
peejayT:Congrats. You should be in now, I assume. |
peejayT:Sorry I missed this. Been away from nairaland for a while ![]() Lifestyle and spending are really good. Everything will be totally different for anyone coming from Naija. The system works and it's easier to make plans. |
donoz:1. Flight ticket was around 2.9m for 3 of us. 2. My employer wasn't going to pay for my accommodation, no agreement of such so it was all paid by me. They helped with securing the apartment though. 3. I doubt jobs are readily available anywhere. My spouse isn't working at this moment sef. It all depends on your industry and experience. But I don't expect it to be as rigorous as what we have in Naija but it's also not on a platter of gold. 4. Of course if eligible and does makes immigration sense. This depends on the PR route too. |
baronphemmy:Thank you |
peejayT:Is your application under GSS? |

Been a while here We have moved since second week of August. The week leading to our departure was very stressful. Buying and packing was not fun. We had foodstuffs weighing up to 65k , and infant luggage over 40kg We had booked business class on Ethiopian Airlines so the luggage size was not a problem and really glad we did. Please if it's not too much for you, book business class for long distance travels, it's worth it. It's cheaper on airlines like Ethiopian compare to Qatar, Emirates, Lufthansa etc. Our flight was quite long, over 30hrs to get to our final destination as we had layover in Ethiopia, then refuelling in Dublin and another layover in Toronto. Immigration was smooth at Toronto, there's a priority line for families. The immigration officer only asked for my work offer letter, correspondence letter (LOI) and passport. He collected only passports from my partner and baby. We waited for about 20mins and I heard him making calls talking about the dried fish in one of my checked in bag I was calm since I already declared it in arriveCan and it was not over the limit. He called us later with no mention of the fish and gave me a printed work permit, my partner's work permit and my baby's visit permit. He explained some things in the letter to us and that was it. Left there and went to pick our bags.Getting to our final destination/province, I had people from my office(including the CEO) already waiting for us. My baby's stroller/car seat was missing and I complained at the airport office, they gave us a brand new one and said there was a mixup and we will get it later in the week (which we did) and we can keep the new one too. Already booked an Airbnb for all of August and got an apartment for September while in Nigeria, so accommodation was sorted. It has been really good here. Registered for our SIN and opened a bank account in the first week. People here are very very nice. It's the nicest I have ever seen. I have read and seen oyinbo people can be "snubbish" and they like their own space but people here have been good. I am much more happy for my baby. My baby has been the biggest winner in all of this. We received tons of gifts and deals for things. We are already eligible for PR through PNP and might pursue this soonest. Although, we could apply for PR right from Nigeria via the job offer but it could take up to two years and the company decided against it. It's been over a month now and things have been alright, coping with the weather and making sense of the culture. Everything here is different but we are getting up to speed gradually. I will answer any questions regarding this movement and others that I can answer to the best of my ability. Thank you Forgive typos ![]() |
Johnson808:I doubt. For my industry, it's much more than that. I have also noticed most express entry process requires at least a year experience and the more the better. What you can do is look for job descriptions for your role and see the requirements. indeed and the Canada job bank is a good place to start |
adeolabilkis002:I don't think my CV is Canadian styled ![]() I have been using the CV for over 3years with simple modifications over time. I think it's because of the industry I am. Vanhack is free, they offer premium services but I didn't go for it. |
peejayT:Hello sir/ma Have you gotten any response? |
Tomiz07:I was only asked my correspondence letter (the one issued after stamping) and job offer letter |
Bubugirl:It depends on the immigration program. You can be in the pool and apply for work permit. I believe LMIA is just an approval from Canada for your employer to hire you. |
favourite787899:Nope, no WES evaluation was done |
wolske:Exactly, the offer letter was enough. Didn't need to show any proof of funds |
Gracemama:Congratulations |
solosamste:This seems like a scam as a lot of things doesn't add up. I have also heard similar case and trajectory as yours from someone on here. First, do you have an LMIA given to you? Did the agent tell you if he/she has applied? |
modskiller:100% A friend of mine moved to Canada without BSC. Throughout my process, I also did not have to submit my certificate. N.B: At the moment, this is peculiar to only tech jobs. |
wolske:Not at all. She won't be submitting any references |
Gracemama:You are welcome. Any luck with this? |
solosamste:You get biometrics request mostly within 24hrs after submitting your application. I don't think I understand you well. Did you submit an application already? |
wolske:You can book an appointment with either IOM or Qlife and go for the medicals. You will tell them it's upfront and will be given a slip when you are done. This slip is what you upload with your application. |
wolske:https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/permit/temporary/global-skills-strategy.html If you don’t need an LMIA, you will be eligible for two-week processing if you meet all of these requirements: you are applying from outside Canada your job is either skill type 0 (managerial) or skill level A (professional) in the National Occupational Classification system your employer has submitted an offer of employment using the Employer Portal and paid the employer compliance fee |
Tomiz07:No, not yet. I will update here when I move. |
beeslim:Yes |
Lexy1st:I am not sure of the processing timeline for non GSS. |
Gracemama:- Visit this link to raise a webform - https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/web-form.asp?v1 - Click on tell us more - Fill the forms appropriately and answer yes to Is your application being processed by an office OUTSIDE Canada? - For the visa processing office, select Singapore. - Proceed to Go to webform - Fill the fields accordingly. Please use the same email you used to apply. Also fill the UCI and application number. - Next page in the description field, you can just ask "What is the status of my application please" and submit. You should get a response between 20mins to 48hrs and it will indicate where your application is being processed. |
Lexy1st:What type of visa/permit did you apply for? |
Homoshalewa:That's a long time to still not receive it. Although I heard sending to Lagos takes way more time when compared to Abuja, maybe the Lagos delay is what's at play. Have you tried tracking it on vfs website using your tracking number? Does it relay same message? I learnt the Lagos submission route is DHL==> Lagos ==> Abuja ==> Lagos ==> DHL |
Gracemama:If it's more than 10days since the principal applicant got their PPR, you can raise a web form to the processing centre. I can show you how to get/know where your application is being processed if you don't know. |
Homoshalewa:Did you send your passport to Lagos or Abuja? Besides, I believe passports submitted in Lagos still get sent to Abuja for processing. This message here means they are done processing your passport and it's ready to be returned to you. If you use a two way courier, you can try tracking online or other available ways. |
