Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Ibijoke, on Friday visited the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Broad Street and some other hospitals in different parts of the State, to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with in-patients and health practitioners. The Governor and his wife while at the various hospitals chatted with the patients and the medical personnel, cheering them up, encouraging them and also prayed for their recovery. Speaking to journalists, Governor Sanwo-Olu said his unscheduled visit to Lagos Island Maternity, was to share Eid-el-Kabir moments with those in the hospital at a time when every other person is in joyous mood at home. “It is really about the season. So, if you reflect, Eid-el-Kabir is about the season of love. It is about the season of remembering one another. So people are remembering Prophet Ibrahim; he slaughtered ram, which showed it is a season of giving. “There are people on two sides, the medical officers on the frontline that are meant to be at work but more importantly are patients who for one reason or the other, cannot be with their loved ones,” he said. Justifying his decision to pay an unscheduled visit to health practitioners and in-patients at the hospitals, Sanwo-Olu said: “I felt that this is the best place to come and show love; not just to see them but to encourage them and to give them little support from myself and my government. “Coming here, we would also see things around ourselves. It is an unscheduled visit. So, we didn’t prompt anything. I saw them in their natural habit. You can see so many doctors and nurses are on duty and patients are also happy. “We have also seen several patients; mothers that gave birth overnight to fresh newborn babies. So, it is just a season to come and thank God for them and their lives and for their families who are not here. For me, that is the most important thing. “We all have to stay calm. It is a period we all need to understand that we need to stay calm and know that the government cares. We might not be 'A Star' but we have a good conscience. We have a good heart to do something good to almost everybody. I just want my citizens to see that if we have more resources, we will do a lot for them. This is just a simple way of saying thank you to everyone." Speaking on his response to a recent viral video of a boy begging his mother to calm down while punishing him for an offence he committed, Governor Sanwo-Olu said he believes strongly in paying attention and creating time to little things because there might be somebody somewhere who needs help. He said: “You look at big things but you need to certainly create time for little things as well. That is the difference. You know, you are going to build a bridge and it is nice but you have somebody who is just somewhere who needs help. “Just this morning (Friday), we rescued somebody who was planning to jump at the Third Mainland Bridge all because he said he has a debt of N500,000. We had to rescue him and we paid the debt. Those little details are what make the difference. “I don’t have two heads, I don’t have 15 fingers. We are still the same human beings. So, we need to show that human part of us while we are not losing sight of the big picture. The big picture is that we want to build roads, bridges and new schools. But we also need to pay attention to the little one like the young boy on that video. By the way, I have spoken to him and his mother. They are doing great and I will see him one of these days very soon.” SOURCE: https://brandspurng.com/2020/08/01/sanwo-olu-wife-celebrate-eid-el-kabir-with-patients-health-practitioners-at-hospitals/

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe, the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has said that rather than getting overwhelmed with the fear of the contagious Coronavirus disease, Lagosians can still have fun moderately without breaching safety protocols. The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf made this assertion over the weekend during the maiden edition of the Digital Lagos Party hosted by the Ministry across the social media for fun-loving Lagosians. Speaking at the virtual party which lasted for two hours, the Commissioner disclosed that the event was viewed live by over 27,000 users on the Lagos State Government Facebook Page alone, while some other participants joined the event through other social media platforms. While acknowledging that the pandemic had restricted activities in the Tourism and Entertainment industry, AkinbiIe-Yusuf revealed that the development has also brought to fore the need to leverage on technology to reactivate the sector, emphasising that limitless opportunities exist for the entertainment industry using technology. In her words, "Lagos is the hub of entertainment, our people are used to hanging out on weekends to unwind and relax but since the outbreak of this COVID-19 pandemic, the social life of the residents had been put on hold, so this type of programme is meant to revive the entertainment aspect of our lifestyles without compromising all the safety and health protocols". The Commissioner informed that the State government is not unaware of the challenges facing practitioners in the sector and the entire residents as a whole, revealing that the present administration is in the process of approving palliatives for practitioners in the tourism and entertainment industry. Assuring Lagosians of the return of the old normal in the entertainment sector soon, the Commissioner advised all residents of the State to keep safe and always adhere to the guidelines stipulated by the government, stressing that COVID-19 is real and not a child's play. In his remarks, Mr. Solomon Bonu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, noted that the event is a way of experimenting with the new normal in the entertainment industry, saying that the Ministry wants to bring people out of depression, entertain Lagosians and also, create awareness about the new normal in the entertainment industry. The Lagos State Government says it is planning to set up an e-commerce hub or platform for agriculture producers to sell farm produce for export purposes. The State Acting Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, who stated this during the inspection tour of venues for the Eko City Framers Market (Ileya Edition) at St. Georges Primary School, Falomo, Lagos and Opebi Primary School, Opebi, noted that the hub will be centrally located to allow certification of production take place in a single location. She said, “We are trying to set up hubs or platforms where we are able to get our producers to come together to be able to produce in a sanitary and hygienic condition so that we can get organisations like SON and NAFDAC to do the necessary assessment on the items being processed and exported”. “Essentially, we want to be able to make it easier for our producers, to be able to sell in a way that they do not have to go through many channels to certify their products. We want to ensure that the certification takes place in one location so that they can easily be exported”, the Acting Commissioner added. Noting that Lagos is improving the ease of doing agri-business for practitioners, Olusanya pointed out that the job of the State Government is to create an enabling environment across the board, adding that the Ministry has an Agric-Business Department which has the mandate to connect farmers with consumers, export community and other stakeholders across the value chain. The Commissioner averred that the State Government is planning a virtual stakeholders’ engagement in August as part of efforts to determine the inherent challenges in the agric space as well as proffer necessary solutions to mitigate them. In her words: “I believe in app-tech space, a lot still needs to be done and, like I had said before we are also trying to connect to our sister Ministry, which is the Ministry of Science and Technology, to develop an app-tech hub to encourage the youth to actually bring an innovative solution to the agric space”. “Also, in the next batch of the Lagos State Entrepreneurship Programme, which will be commencing in Araga next month, part of their syllabus is the e-commerce section designed to expose them to the online agricultural trade. That it is to let them know that sales do not depend entirely on the physical interaction between the farmers and consumers and that they can set up e-commerce platforms to sell their produce”, Olusanya said. Also speaking, Mr. Gbolahan Yishau, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Eti-Osa Local Government, said that Lagos State has done a lot since inception, especially in ensuring that food gets to the residents through the Eko City farmers market initiative. In his words, "We have also empowered some people so that they can have the capacity to shop and buy whatever they need for their families. We created vouchers to augment whatever they might have to come to the market with or even those who have nothing to shop with would be able to buy things. The farmers are happy because we have empowered more people to buy from them”. “I think it is a very good initiative, especially with the festivities coming up next week; people can have food on their table which is very important during this pandemic. We have already given out some N1000 vouchers to about 1000 people and we are going to do more”, he said. In a similar vein, the Executive Chairman, Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Mr. Francis Oke, lauded the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, saying that the market would ease the pressure on residents going to the open market to shop for their needs during the forthcoming Ileya festival. He added that the market will open for five days in the LCDA in order to give residents, farmers and producers the opportunity to buy and sell their produce. Since the release of its trailer in April, Airtel TV’s ‘Amaka Must Go’ has been a hot topic online among movie buffs and people looking to find something exciting to watch amid the COVID-19 lockdown. The 2 minute-trailer has managed to garner close to 2 million views on YouTube alone and snippets on social media have spurred interest from thousands of users on platforms like Twitter, where the question “what really is Amaka Must Go about?” appears to be atop the conversation. The build-up to the release of the trailer can also largely be attributed to the enormous attention the upcoming series has since attracted as lead actors, Abdulateef Adedimeji and Benita Essien managed to stir up a heated conversation on social media with their staged “beef”, which turned out to be quite a clever marketing ploy. While no release date has been scheduled or announced by Airtel yet owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the anticipation for ‘Amaka Must Go’ remains considerably high and speculations have risen on what to expect as well as what the movie will entail. Here is everything you need to know about the highly anticipated TV series thus far. The Production The upcoming TV series is an original production from Nigeria’s leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel. It will be the first original TV series by the telco, which will be available on its Video on Demand and live TV streaming platform, Airtel TV. It’s a Spin-Off For fans of Airtel’s critically acclaimed web series ‘The In-laws’, many faces in the trailer are instantly recognizable, with notable characters appearing in numerous scenes. ‘Amaka Must Go’ is actually a spin-off of the web series and will follow the main and recurring characters. For those who are already fans of the web series, this will be an opportunity to see their favourite characters with more fleshed-out backstories. The Excellent Cast It boasts an ensemble cast, most of who are returning from the web series ‘The In-Laws’, including Abdulateef Adedimeji, who plays Segun; veteran Nollywood actress, Idowu Phillips a.k.a Iya Rainbow, who plays his mother; Ngozi Nwosu a.k.a Mummy Peace, Segun’s mother-in-law; Dele Odule, his father-in-law, and the titular character and Segun’s wife, Amaka, played by Benita Essien. The Build-Up A few days to the release of the trailer, lead actors of the upcoming series, Benita Essien (Amaka) and Abdulateef Adedimeji (Segun) caused quite a stir on social media after both took to Instagram Live and had a heated argument. Unsuspecting followers and fans immediately took this as a real social media “beef” between two of Nollywood biggest co-stars in what turned out to be a laudable marketing ploy to bolster anticipation. They got us – so, nice one, Airtel! The Synopsis Following their story from the web series, ‘Amaka Must Go’ will show the journey of happily married couple, Amaka and Segun as they try to balance their married life amid the increasing tension from their in-laws. Inadequate access to personal protective equipment or weak infection prevention and control measures raise the risk of health worker infection The World Health Organization (WHO) today warned of the threat posed by COVID-19 to health workers across Africa. More than 10 000 health workers in the 40 countries which have reported on such infections have been infected with COVID-19 so far, a sign of the challenges medical staff on the frontlines of the outbreak face. This comes as COVID-19 cases in Africa appear to be gathering pace. There are now more than 750 000 cases of COVID-19, with over 15 000 deaths. Some countries are approaching a critical number of infections that can place stress on health systems. South Africa is now among the worst-hit countries in the world. “The growth we are seeing in COVID-19 cases in Africa is placing an ever-greater strain on health services across the continent,” said Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa. “This has very real consequences for the individuals who work in them, and there is no more sobering example of this than the rising number of health worker infections.” So far, about 10% of all cases globally are among health workers, though there is a wide range between individual countries. In Africa, information on health worker infections is still limited, but preliminary data finds that they make up more than 5% of cases in 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa alone, and in four of these, health workers make up more than 10% of all infections. Inadequate access to personal protective equipment or weak infection prevention and control measures raise the risk of health worker infection. Surging global demand for protective equipment as well as global restrictions on travel has triggered supply shortages. Health workers can also be exposed to patients who do not show signs of the disease and are in the health facilities for a range of other services. Risks may also arise when health personnel are repurposed for COVID-19 response without adequate briefing, or because of heavy workloads which result in fatigue, burnout and possibly not fully applying the standard operating procedures. In many African countries, infection prevention and control measures aimed at preventing infections in health facilities are still not fully implemented. When WHO assessed clinics and hospitals across the continent for these measures, only 16% of the nearly 30 000 facilities surveyed had assessment scores above 75%. Many health centres were found to lack the infrastructure necessary to implement key infection prevention measures or to prevent overcrowding. Only 7.8% (2213) had isolation capacities and just a third had the capacity to triage patients. “One infection among health workers is one too many,” said Dr Moeti. “Doctors, nurses and other health professionals are our mothers, brothers and sisters. They are helping to save lives endangered by COVID-19. We must make sure that they have the equipment, skills and information they need to keep themselves, their patients and colleagues safe.” WHO has been working closely with health ministries to reduce health worker infections since the outbreak began. The organization has trained more than 50 000 health workers in Africa in infection prevention and control, with plans to train over 200 000 more, as well as providing guidance documents and guidelines on best care practices and the most up-to-date treatment regimes. WHO is also helping to fill gaps in the supply of personal protective equipment. Currently, 41 million items of personal protective equipment are ready to ship from China to cover the needs of 47 African countries. Shipments for an initial set of 23 African countries are planned to start during this weekend. As a result of concerted efforts by WHO and partners some African countries have managed to reduce health worker infections considerably. For example, two months ago over 16% of COVID-19 infections in Sierra Leone were among health workers. The figure has now dropped to 9%. Cote d’Ivoire has reduced the proportion of infections among health workers from 6.1% to 1.4%. Scaling up infection prevention and control measures can further reduce infections among health workers. Dr Moeti spoke about health worker infections in Africa during a virtual press conference today organized by APO Group. She was joined by Hon Dr Léonie Claudine Lougue, Minister of Health of Burkina Faso; Hon Dr Alpha T. Wurie, Minister of Health and Population of Sierra Leone; and Dr Jemima A. Dennis-Antwi, International Maternal Health & Midwifery Specialist. SOURCE: https://brandspurng.com/2020/07/23/over-10000-health-workers-in-africa-infected-with-covid-19-says-who/

As the pandemic abates in some countries, world leaders will find themselves with an expanded audience for future engagement.” Group Managing Director CMC Connect BCW (the affiliate company of BCW in Nigeria); Yomi Badejo-Okusanya commended the BCW global network for the professionalism that culminated in the timely release of the study. “This report will encourage leaders who have been lagging behind to tap into opportunities provided by social media to communicate rightly by increasing their activities on the platforms to educate and inform their people. COVID 19 has changed many around the globe, and in Africa the need to communicate what the government is doing and saying shows some level of transparency”, he added. The 2020 Twiplomacy edition reveals that governments and leaders of 189 countries had an official presence on the social network, representing 98 percent of the 193 UN member states. The leaders use Twitter to share critical coronavirus information and encourage their citizens to “stay home” and “stay safe.” Many leaders have been leading by example and updating their Twitter profiles, wearing a face mask and participating in the #SafeHands challenge. World leaders and diplomats also had to adapt to working from home and have been thrust into video conferences, making diplomacy truly digital. Globally, US President Donald Trump is still the most followed world leader with more than 81 million followers and counting, while the governments of four countries namely Laos, North Korea, Sao Tome and Principe and Turkmenistan do not have a Twitter presence. This is because poverty is so rampant in speech and in thought, that if you ever want to be free from it you need to dissociate yourself from it and people who bear it. This is not to say that poverty in Nigeria is not a real problem - it is. But people who are often not directly affected by it seem to have a second type of poverty - which is simply a non-progressive mindset and the spirit of complaining. For instance, It is one thing to not have funds for quality education. It is another thing to see a scholarship opportunity and instead of applying, you say "na only big men children de get the scholarship na - them know who dem dey give." Such a person has already resigned himself to perpetual lack of progress and unwillingness to even make and effort. And such people, statements and ways of thinking have to stay very far away from you if you want to progress in Nigeria (or anywhere in the world or that matter). It's a concrete kind of poverty not to be able to see light at the end of the tunnel. It's a new kind of poverty not to be able to work towards a brighter tomorrow; to be so perpetually broke that you are not even thinking about saving and doing something for the future. - To apply for a job, you will say "no job." - To start a business you will "no funds." - To raise capital you will say "na only big men banks dey give loans." - To partner with others, you will say "Nobody can be trusted, they will carry your money and run." - To read a book, you will say "no time to read." - Save money, you will say "na who don chop belle-full na im dey save" Later you will say its sniper that is killing people; when you're not even alive to begin with. Real Nigerian's are hustlers, not complainers. And we are known by that trademark all over the globe. We are resilient. Struggle makes us tough, not give up. It makes us band together not fall apart. You must avoid the poverty mentality in this Nigeria in order to thrive. And when you pray against poverty what you are really praying about is to keep away from those people who talk like that and teach you how to talk and think like that. Be up and doing my friend. Take courage and keep going. That’s the real Nigerian spirit. SOURCE: https://brandspurng.com/2020/07/19/in-nigeria-you-need-deliberate-effort-to-unlearn-poverty/

The bottom of the charger is equipped with a semiconductor cooler in order to adjust the heat entering and exiting thereby ensuring that the handset is not hot after the appliance has been charged. In this case, the temperature of the back of the phone is kept over 2℃ lower than that of only using the fan to dissipate heat. The unique design makes mobile phone charging more convenient and has the capacity for high-power charging. These unique features mean that the 65W AirVOOC wireless flash charge provides a unique and unprecedented charging experience and may likely become users’ first charger choice in the 5G era. High-power ultra-small charger series: mini-size and easy to carry OPPO also launched today the world's smallest and thinnest 50W mini SuperVOOC charger, and the 110W mini flash charger that features a unique dual-level architecture. OPPO’s 50W mini SuperVOOC charger was developed through multi-radian curve processing to a size similar to a business card holder; its wall has a thickness of only 1.05cm. As a result of its design, users can easily place it in their shirt pockets and coat pockets, which makes it extremely convenient for commuting and travelling. The 50W mini SuperVOOC charger is compatible with VOOC protocols, supports mainstream protocols like 27W PD and 50W PPS, and can charge a variety of devices including mobile phones and laptops. OPPO’s engineers designed a revolutionary architecture for the 50W mini SuperVOOC charger and reduced the size of the components that take up the most space by using a new topological design. This provides a highly efficient power conversion by removing the conventional electrolytic capacitor as well as introducing pulse charging – the first in the industry, aviation-grade high power clamping diodes and GaN high frequency switching power supply technology, to finally achieve miniaturization of high-power chargers. Building upon the 50W mini SuperVOOC charger, OPPO's 110W mini flash charger has defied the limits of size and efficiency for high-power adapters. Besides using the innovative dual-level architecture to achieve high-efficiency power conversion and temperature rise control, the 110W mini flash charger is built upon the combination of laminate and compact structures which minimizes its size to just 35.76 cm³ - similar to the size of a normal 18W charger. In the era of intelligent connectivity, OPPO's ultra-small charger series will provide flash charging anywhere and at any time. Charge-and-go is now a reality, a single charger which powers multiple devices. As of June 2020, OPPO has applied for more than 2,800 global patents for flash charging. The firm’s 30-plus smartphone models featuring VOOC flash charge technology have delivered the ultra-fast charging experience to over 157 million users globally. With demand growing for mobile flash charging in the era of intelligent connectivity, OPPO will continue to improve and upgrade the VOOC flash charge platforms and develop industry-leading technologies to deliver flash-charging experiences suitable to all usage scenarios for its users across the world. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday commissioned a 48-Chamber morgue facility at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba in Lagos. Speaking at the commissioning of the state-of-the-art morgue facility, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the new morgue, donated by IHS Towers to the Lagos State Government will be available to serve the entire Lagos State and not just the Infectious Diseases Hospital. He said: “Death is not something we pray for, but we also fully accept its inevitability. And we know that when it happens, it is absolutely necessary for the departed to be treated with care and dignity until it is time to commit them to mother earth. This is why we have morgues, and why we will never shy away from expanding our morgue capacity. Not because death is palatable but because it is inevitable. “I recall that in April, we experienced congestion in mortuary capacity in Lagos State. The fact that the COVID-19 lockdown coincided with the end of Lent that month deprived many families of the chance to bury their loved ones. And we had to open a special window for funerals to take place, so as to decongest the mortuaries. “Even though those were exceptional circumstances, it was clear from that experience that Lagos could do with an expansion in its morgue capacity. Now IHS has stepped up and very generously donated a state-of-the-art morgue facility to the Infectious Diseases Hospital. It will, of course, serve not just the IDH; it will be available to serve the entire Lagos State.” Governor Sanwo-Olu while commending IHS Towers for its good gesture to Lagos State Government, called on other private sector players to emulate the generosity and good corporate citizenship of IHS Towers. The governor noted that COVID-19 pandemic has brought all hands on deck, to support the efforts of governments in Nigeria and globally. “In recent months we have seen first-hand the immense support and generosity of the private sector, especially to the healthcare sector in Lagos State; significant donations of infrastructure, consumables and so on, to help strengthen our medical systems at a time when it is under great strain from the Coronavirus pandemic. “This pandemic has no doubt brought all hands on deck, to support the efforts of governments, and not just in Nigeria, but globally as well. I call on other private sector players to emulate the generosity and good corporate citizenship of IHS Towers. “Here is a company that, over the last two decades, has created a significant business, investment and philanthropic footprint in Nigeria. You have tirelessly implemented philanthropy in education, thought leadership, environmental conservation, and healthcare. “As your corporate slogan declares, you have consistently been ‘Towers of Strength’ in every sector in which you have intervened with your CSR. We look forward to more partnerships and support in the future.” Sanwo-Olu said. SOURCE: https://brandspurng.com/2020/07/15/covid-19-sanwo-olu-commissions-48-chamber-morgue-in-yaba-isolation-centre/
