KANO State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Katsina, has confirmed that three robbers lost their lives in a gun duel with police while four members of the gang said to have come from Okene, in Kogi State, who participated in the operation were arrested.

The Commissioner of Police, who disclosed this to journalists on the premises of BSV Industries Limited , the company where the armed robbers carried out the operation, further added that the robbers had a free day, as he said they carted away a sum of N5 million.
According to him, “in the early hours of Monday, an eight-man gang believed to be responsible for the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery, assassination and terrorists activities that came from Kogi State, had an encounter with the Police.

“The gang kidnapped Dabir Singh, an Indian national, forced him to his factory, BSV Industries Ltd, located at Chalawa Industrial Estate, attacked the security guards at gunpoint and forcibly broke th safe, using a 500kg gas cylinder and make away with the sum of N5million.”
He, however, noted that the pandemonium created by the attack alerted nearby members of the Ambush Squad, who were on routine patrol in the area.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, February 11, arraigned one Robert Daniel Onyeani before Justice E. N. Anyadike of the Federal High Court of Umuahia, Abia State on a four-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and issuance of dud cheque to the tune of N57, 704,000.00 (Fifty-Seven Million, Seven Hundred and Four Thousand Naira).

Onyeani, Chief Executive of Imagine Roco Limited, sometime in November, 2013, allegedly presented himself to the complainant as a member of a seven-man Presidential Committee on Import Duties Concession and Waiver of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and investment, Abuja.
The 53-year-old accused person also allegedly demanded the sum of N178, 000,000 (one hundred and seventy-eight million naira) from the complainant, promising that he could procure import duties waiver/concession certificate for importation of stock fish.

However, the accused person, after collecting the sum of N57,704,000.000 (fifty-seven million, seven hundred and four thousand naira) from the complainant, became elusive.
When the petitioner requested for refund, the accused person was said to have issued some cheques, which were not honoured due to insufficient fund in his account.

The management of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) on Thursday announced a four-week mourning of the late Miss Comfort Dazan, a final-year HND student who died in the early hours of Wednesday.
A statement issued on Thursday by the spokesman of the College, Mr Charles Oni‎, directed all the students’ resident on campus to vacate the premises with immediate effect.

"The Academic Board of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has suspended academic activities in the college for four weeks to allow management, staff and students mourn the loss of Miss Comfort Dazan, who passed on yesterday morning.

"To forestall further destruction of College property, students are to vacate halls of residence latest by 12 noon, Thursday, February 11, 2016."

It was gathered that students protesting the death of Dazan had on Wednesday night destroyed some of the facilities at the school's Medical Centre.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to save the country the national embarrassment arising from the 2016 budget presented to the National Assembly by formally withdrawing the document and re-presenting it.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Pubic Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said: “The president should admit that there were avoidable errors in the budget and since he is human and not immune to errors, he should simply do the needful by presenting a new and credible budget to the National Assembly.”

Governor Fayose described revelation by the Health Minister, Isaac Adewole that the proposal drawn up by the ministry and submitted to the budget office had been doctored and that ‘foreign’ appropriations, different from what was submitted, had been sneaked in as the height of national embarrassment.

Properties worth millions of naira were on Wednesday morning, destroyed by fire at a fabrics market known as (Oginni market) at Dugbe, Ibadan.

The fire, according to sources began around 12 midnight, affected 15 shops, with 10 of the shops completely burnt while the remaining five were partially affected.

It took the intervention of some of the traders around and men of Oyo State Fire Service Corps to quench the outbreak.

An eyewitness report informed that the fire had gone wild before the men of the fire service came around, but stated that they put up yoreman effort at putting it under control.

According to the source, "when the fire service same with their big truck, they quickly started applying water from the truck from the entrance by the side of Former Afribank building (now Skye bank). As they were applying water, it was as if they were applying fuel because of harmattan."
The source said the shops in the area have not had electricity supply to the area in the last few days.

It was also gathered that the neighbouring food canteen had no traces of burning any materials while there was even a small stream separating the shops from the catering services apartment.

A statement by the EFCC's spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren, states that Tangwami, in his capacity as the council boss, used his position to award a a number of contracts to companies where he has interests and failed to deliver on the contract terms.

These include: Contracts for supply of cerebrospinal meningitis vaccines awarded in favour of Binam Integrated Services Ltd; supply of VVF Oral Vaccines for Immunization against typhoid in favor of Nchaloro Nigeria Ltd; supply of 500 units of motorcycles to be distributed to all the Local government Areas in Adamawa State in favor of Bange Integrated service Ltd; building of a school for technical skill acquisition in Numan in favor of Bange Company Ltd.

A judge, Hon. Justice Olabisi Akinlade has convicted a 25-year-old armed robber, Rasak Ogedengbeand sentenced him to death by hanging. Ogedengbe attacked the family of one Mr Chukwujekwu who just returned from church at Ejigbo and carted away some of their valuables, which included money, wrist watches and phones.


The victim had gone to report at Ejigbo police station when he saw Ogedenge in the police van after the suspect had already been arrested by the police, Tribune reports.

The police searched the polythene bag with him and found some of the valuables stolen from the victim. Ogedengbe did not produce any witness and also pleaded not guilty to the offence but the prosecution had called two witnesses to testify and all their evidence were taken by the court.

While delivering her judgment, the presiding judge, Hon.Justice Olabisi Akinlade said that Ogedengbe was accused of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery under Section 403 and 402 of the criminal code, law of Lagos State 2003.

THE Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, on Tuesday, affirmed to newsmen that the 2016 budget document was still with the lawmakers.

“To my knowledge, the budget, as laid by Mr President on December 22, 2015, is still with the National Assembly and has not be withdrawn,” he said.

He added that if there was any need to necessitate the withdrawal, there would be communication, but added that budget figures could always be altered.

“It can be worked on behind the scene after second reading,” he said.

This was as the Senate leader, Senator Ali Ndume, said President Buhari could not withdraw the 2016 budget which he submitted to the National Assembly on December 22.

Ndume, who spoke to newsmen in the Senate on Tuesday, said the document submitted to the joint session of the National Assembly could not be withdrawn.

He said the president did not need to withdraw the budget because the figures contained were not sacrosanct.

The senator added that the lawmakers could always adjust the figures during budget defence process.

A Kano Higher Sharia Court has sentenced Abdulaziz Dauda, popularly known as Abdul Inyass, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of blasphemy.

The court upheld the death sentence passed on Mr. Dauda by a lower Sharia court.

Mr. Dauda was arrested on August 18, 2015 in Abuja and taken to Kano, where he faced trial on a two-count charge of blasphemy and inciting crisis that led to the burning of a Sharia court and some vehicles.

The man reportedly made some blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad during a Maulud festival held on June 31 last year.

State counsel, Lamido Sorondinki, said five witnesses, including the police, had testified before the court.
