German Football Association (DFB) head Reinhard Grindel on Thursday in Berlin said he should have made clearer that racism is unacceptable after midfielder Mesut Ozil quit the national team. Ozil, who plays for English Premier League club Arsenal, had cited “racism and disrespect” over his Turkish roots after he quit the former world champions side. He had been widely criticised for having his photograph taken with Turkey’s authoritarian President Tayyip Erdogan in May. Ozil and Ilkay Gundogan, a team-mate of Turkish descent who also posed with Erdogan, were jeered by German fans in warm-up games before the World Cup in Russia. Grindel rejected Ozil’s accusations of racism against the DFB but said he regretted the photograph had been misused to prove “racist words’’, even though he did not go into any details. “In retrospect, as the president I should have clearly said what is obvious for me personally and for us as an association, namely that any form of racism is unbearable, unacceptable and intolerable,” he said in a statement. The 29-year-old’s decision to quit has triggered a public debate in Germany about its relations with its largest immigrant community. Ozil is a key member of the team which won the World Cup in 2014 and was also voted German Player of the Year a record five times through public ballots. Some politicians and the leader of the Turkish community in Germany had called for Grindel to resign but there were others who said Ozil’s racism claims were out-of-place. Earlier this week, a spokeswoman for Chancellor Angela Merkel said Germany was a “cosmopolitan country’’ where people with migrant backgrounds were welcome and sport played a big role in integration. She added that Merkel valued Ozil as a “great” footballer. But German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has questioned the debate. “I don’t believe the case of a multimillionaire living and working in England gives much insight into the success or failure of integration in Germany.” Erdogan has said the treatment of Ozil was racist and unacceptable. Ozil said Grindel had blamed him for Germany’s group stage elimination from this year’s World Cup, their earliest exit from the tournament in 80 years. He claimed that Grindel has considered a German when the national team won but an immigrant when the side lost. read more https://ronishratisblog.com/2018/07/27/german-fa-boss-admits-mistakes-in-ozil-affair/

The corpse of a baby girl dumped on the refuse site at Apapa road, Ebute Metta Lagos early Thursday morning Emotions were raised on Thursday as passers-by placed curses on an unknown mother, who dumped her dead baby in a refuse dump site in Lagos. The corpse of the baby girl was discovered at a dump site at Costain Bus-stop, along Apapa Road in Ebute Meta, Lagos State. The baby, dressed in a light-green unisex wear with a black cap, looked malnourished. The identity of the mother of the baby was not known as at the time of filing this report. Reacting, a sympathiser and a resident of Apapa Road told NAN correspondent at the spot where her corpse was dropped that he saw the baby still breathing when he was going to the office in the early hours of the day. The sympathiser, who pleaded anonymity, said he put a call through to the Lagos State emergency services numbers. This was to alert the officials of the relevant agency responsible for rescuing children from such an ugly situation to come and rescue her, he said. He expressed his disappointment that the responders could not rescue the child before her untimely death. “Imagine this kind of tragedy, if the baby had been rescued on time, she would not have died. “The Lagos State Emergency Unit has failed us,’’ he said. Adeolu Aderogba, a trader selling bread beside the scene, said she resumed her morning routine trading around 7.00 a.m. only to discover that the baby was dumped on the refuse. “I found the baby on the refuse when I came this morning. Whoever dumped the baby there must be a very wicked person,’’ she said. She said that babies were precious gifts from God and should be cared for, but some contemporary mothers seemed to be careless and morally bankrupt. Also, Mr Opeyemi Rasheed, a businessman, said that the baby ought to have been buried normally instead of being dumped on refuse. “A grave should have been dug instead of just depositing the baby by the roadside,’’ Rasheed said. Mr Steven Yusuf, a mechanic, who condemned the dumping of the remains of the baby girl at a waste bin said that he would report the incident at the Mainland Local Government Area. “This will enable the council remove the corpse and give it proper burial. “It is not good as the corpse is lying around. “It can lead to an outbreak of diseases for the inhabitants of the area,’’ Yusuf said. As at 10.30 a.m., the corpse was still lying on top of refuse pile-up while flies perched on it. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Lagos State Command, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident and said that the Iponri Police Division had been notified about the baby’s corpse...Read more

I just read this story on how a daughter was raised and decided to share. A must read : My Dad always sounds it in my ears "Simi, you must be tough. Being girlish and being ladylike is not an excuse for weakness". This he still says to all his daughters. My dad raised both his male and female children to do the "masculine" as well as the "feminine" tasks. My sisters and I started winding a 15 KVA electricity generator at a young age. I learnt how to wash a car (internal and external areas) before the age of 16. I started learning car driving immediately after secondary school. My Dad told me that before he allows me drive out independently, that I must learn how to change car tyre independently. I remember I was forming “ajebutter” on this changing Tyre issue and my Dad said to me "If you are driving on a lonely highway and you need to change your car Tyre, what would you do? You will have to get down and change it...that is the common sense thing to do. It's a survival skill for drivers. For my brother? He started washing the dishes in the kitchen as soon as his hands could reach the kitchen sink and handle the dishes. He started cooking simple meals before the age of 10. He started washing his socks and under wears before the age of 7. He started handling his laundry before the age of 11, when he had to go to boarding school. In my house, the rule was (still is) that anyone who eats must be able to get involved in preparing meals in the kitchen, when required. My father tells me that I can become the president of my country as a girl, and not just a first lady. There is nothing wrong with a girl being a first lady (wife) to male president, but there is also nothing wrong with a man being a husband to a female president. Thus, if you tell your son that he can be a president, you should also tell your daughter that she can be a president too. The hidden but significant psychology behind this, is that telling your daughter that she can be a president pushes her to be great, while telling her that she can be a first lady pushes her to aspire to marry a great man, which probably reduces the needed higher motivation for her to aspire to pursue and do her greatest potentials. We don't need to teach our daughters to believe that the best they can be is to exist under the success of a man called their lover or husband. It is a disservice to the society to raise your sons with the impression that he is superior or better than the female children. Rather raise your daughters to understand that they are not inferior to the male children. Teach your sons to be as domesticated as your daughters, and push your daughters to work hard to meet financial independence as much as you push your sons. This way, we will raise a less entitled and more responsible generation of children, that is better equipped with vital survival skills, right values, and less handicaps. Remember that charity should begin at home, not in the offices or work places. And also that equity begins at home too!....Read more ronishratisblog.com

The boyfriend of Miss Khadijat Oluboyo, the slain daughter of Lasisi Oluboyo, former deputy governor of Ondo State, has denied involvement in her death. Oluboyo, the 25 year-old final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, was on Sunday found dead at the home of her boyfriend, Saidu-Shakiru Adeyemi, in Akure. Adeyemi denied involvement in Oluboyo’s death when he faced journalists at the headquarters of the Ondo State Police Command on Wednesday in Akure. According to him, it was the slain girl that brought two boys into his room, who eventually killed her. Adeyemi explained that he had dated Oluboyo for four years before they parted ways in 2015, and that they only reconciled after the last Ramadan celebration. Adeyemi, who completed his National Youth Service in 2017, said he had no reason to kill her because he hoped to use her father’s connection to secure job. He said that Oluboyo came to his house on Thursday because of her project which he was helping her to do. According to him, they had finished chapter one and her supervisor had already approved it and she came for final correction so that she could move to chapter two. He explained further that the girl later travelled to Lagos on Friday to buy some wrist watches but she forgot to drop her project with him and promised to return to school from Lagos. “Meanwhile, on Saturday she snapped both the soft and hard copy of her project to me on my whatsApp for correction. “On Monday, I believed she was already in school when she sent me a text message to send her N2,000. But I was able to send only N1,000. “So, I was surprised when I heard a knock on my door later in the day and she entered my room. “She later told me that she wanted to receive some visitors in my place, and few minutes later she brought two boys in. I was not surprised because that was not her first time to bring someone to my house. “Later when they came in, we exchanged greetings and I left them in the room. But after 30 minutes, one of the boys called me in and I discovered he held a small gun in his hand while the other boy was on her, naked. “And I heard Khadijat saying ”I will not tell anybody”. The boy strangled her to death and threatened me not to shout or else they would kill me. “They later forced me to find a digger with which they dug the ground in my room and buried her “They are the ones that killed and buried her. I could not shout after they left because of the implication of what has happened, for I was sure nobody would believe me. “On the fifth day, I was not comfortable anymore, so I exhumed her body and confided in my younger brother who advised that we should inform our father about the development. “It was my father who informed the police before I was arrested,” Adeyemi said. Mr Femi Joseph, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) of the command who paraded Adeyemi with other suspects, said he would soon be charged to court after completion of investigation.

The Palace of Versailles Paris is not a single building. Instead, the estate includes the main Palace, the Grand Trianon, Marie-Antoinett's Estate and the 1700-acre Versailles Garden. The Palace of Versailles has been listed as a World Heritage Site for 30 years and is one of the greatest achievements in French 17th century art. Louis XIII's old hunting pavilion was transformed and extended by his son, Louis XIV, when he installed the Court and government there in 1682. A succession of kings continued to embellish the Palace up until the French Revolution. Today the Palace contains 2,300 rooms spread over 63,154 m2. The Chateau contains 700 individual rooms each more spectacular and lavish than the next. The 23-kt gold leaf on woven silk wall coverings and framing exquisitely painted ceiling panels, smothering statues and sculptures, encasing lamps, trimming chandeliers and forming platters, bowls, and assortments of serving dishes speaks of how few ways the extremely rich could invest their money. The Rooms most often discussed are the Hall of Mirrors leading to the King's Apartments. It is spectacular. The 239.5-foot long by 34.4-foot wide corridor is dripping with chandeliers overburdened with hand-cut crystals hanging from the 40 foot high arched ceiling. The 357 hand made Venetian Mirrors inlayed into the 17 arched windows and the balance of the 578 mirrors creating the mirrored wall opposite the garden doors allow for even the smallest movement to be seen from anywhere in the hall. Since this hall was especially for gathering the royal court together for official occasions, any intrigue among the dissidents could be seen and reported to the King...Read more @https://ronishratisblog.com/2018/07/12/a-place-to-visit-in-france-versailles/

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has commended the National Assembly on its decision to revisit the issue of state police in the ongoing constitution review to address insecurity in the country. Abubakar, in a statement issued by his Media office on Thursday in Abuja, said that the lawmakers had by their action demonstrated courage in seizing the initiative to intervene in the country security crisis. He recalled the massacres in Zamfara, Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna States and the murder of seven policemen in Abuja while on duty. Abubakar said decisive action was needed to address the current security challenges. He said that given the seeming despair and helplessness of the citizens, NASS had responsibility to give legal teeth to the creation of state police and community policing due to frequent deadly attacks. “A peculiar crisis demands a decisive action, and I am one hundred percent behind the National Assembly in its efforts to strengthen the hands of state governments in providing security to their citizens.” He said that leaving the citizens to their fate was not an option. He added that once a democratic government seemed overwhelmed or paralysed by security challenges, the initiative by the National Assembly should be welcomed by all Nigerians. Abubakar also said that security strategies should be periodically reviewed because the criminals involved were also studying the weaknesses and strengths of the security system. The former vice-president said that the states should always be ahead of the criminals or should be able to develop strategies that could neutralise them before they could strike. Abubakar called on Nigerians to support the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly in the bold decision to amend the constitution to create state police and community policing. He extended his condolences to the families and colleagues of the seven policemen killed in Abuja in the line of duty on Tuesday. “Nigeria must show, by words and action, that the lives of our armed forces and the police and indeed, of any Nigerian matter to us. Even one loss of life is a loss too many.” The Senate, on Tuesday, said it would revisit calls for state police and design framework for mopping up 350 million light weapons suspected to be in circulation in Nigeria. The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, made disclosed this while welcoming senators to plenary after a three-week Eid-el-Fitr recess...Read more

Belgium is blessed with an abundance of attacking talent that includes Premier League trio Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku. And Kompany, set to keep his place in defence after making his first start of the tournament against Japan, said Belgium won’t change their style against Brazil. “We have a certain way of playing that always remains the same,” said Kompany. “We’re strong offensively, but Brazil is the strongest team on an individual level that I’ve seen here. “Their defenders are solid and they have very strong attackers. But it’s a collective sport, so we can do something about that collectively.”

Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala A former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, on Wednesday declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat in 2019, saying he was bowing to intense pressure by his admirers. The former governor made the declaration on Wednesday at his Bodija, Ibadan, residence while receiving members of the Akala Support Group who paid him a visit. The group had at a programme held at Premier Hotel in Ibadan on March 29 called on Alao-Akala to re-contest in 2019. “Patriotic people of Oyo State, for quite some time now, I have been inundated by telephone calls and text messages from well-meaning citizens and subjected to intense pressure. ”I have been receiving these messages from Destiny Group, corporate bodies, political associates and friends alike to stage a comeback to the governorship seat in the state. “Having communed with my creator, the Almighty God, my immediate family and due consultations with critical stakeholders, I do solemnly offer myself to contest for the governorship seat in 2019. So help me God,” he said. Alao-Akala said he was contesting with a view to consolidating on and surpassing the achievements recorded so far by Gov. Abiola Ajimobi. He claimed that he endeavoured “ to put smiles on the faces of people within available resources’’ when he was governor between 2007 and 2011. Alao-Akala commended the efforts of Ajimobi who had been governing the state in the last seven years. “Ajimobi’s remarkable programmes and projects in the areas where people find tough to venture into have been impactful on the citizenry such that the people have tagged him ‘Koseleri Governor. “My fellow compatriots, you can see vividly the similarities in our designations, ‘Oyato’ and ‘Koseleri, ‘ both of which are clear evidence of purposeful governance,’’ he said. Earlier, Dr Fola Akinosun, the Chairman of Akala Support Group, had described Alao-Akala as the most qualified and experienced among all those who had declared interest in the governorship race. Akinosun, who is a member of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, said this was not the time to experiment in the choice of leadership...Read more at http://ronishratisblog.com/ Mr Olu Abiala, a former NLC Chairman in the state, also said the visit was to appeal to Alao-Akala to listen to the call by no fewer than 5,000 members of the group to contest. Among those present at the forum were human rights activists, labour leaders, traders as well as representatives of youth and women groups.
