AAs can't help being the greatest black people on the planet today, but hey, we got part of it from Africa and the rest is our own creation. AAs descend mostly from Nigerians so to hate us is to hate themselves. |
The funny is that since I've been married these women think they're slick, sitting there staring at me giving me winks when they didn't give me no play before I was married. They think I'm a sellout for marrying a Moroccan woman, but an African is an African so how am I selling out? |
The definition of a black American to the ignorant jackasses in here Is a group of Americans of African descent whom they are jealous of and could never be as great as because of their inferiority complex. That applies only to the ignorant asswipes, ONLY! |
We AAs in America are very much educated and smart to wit on how to deal with white supremacy and the white man himself, so while some outsiders my thuínk we complain about every little thing when it comes to racism, the reality is that we're opening eyes and know where much better and deserve better than the crumbs from the white man's plate. |
Thats a lies and misperception, but in being a fair man and not stooping down to the stupidity and bullshit of some, I will not make any comparisons to Africans who aren't doing all that good. |
It must be Igbos because African Americans have a high amount of Igbo descent and we dance very good. It had to come from some where. |
Well I see the similarities I have with Igbos now, so I guess it is true, damn, I am an Igbo by descent from way, way back. |
You are refering to the one drop rule in the Legal sense, the anti- misegation laws. In that sense it doesnt exist anymore. It has now taken another meaning. Nowadys the 'one drop rule' refers to the subconcious thought that anyone that has any "black" ancestry is black. its a quite common saying. Not even really on that level either, to most AAs, a person with visible black ancestry is black and since AAs have a variety of looks its just second nature to call someone black if they look within the range of AA looks. The one drop rule when it legally existed shaped AA identity, mostly through everyone sharing the same struggle and racism because of it. |
My mother is Bajan so yeah, I know, Barbadian women can play hard to get, didn't know Bajan women are mostly Igbo descent. I'm married now, to a Moroccan woman, no more lady chasing for me, but lol, Igbo women are very hard to get, even with my best game as I was younger. |
No offense but why is it that you are disregarding the other half of Obama's heritage? It seems more like you're buying into this whole notion if the one drop rule. There are people who don't "look" black but are black so do you mean to tell me that because they don't "visible African features" that their not black? There is a bi-ethnic rapper here in the US, [I can't remember his name but when I do, I'll post it--he's not famous] and when I first saw him, I assumed he was white. I later found out that he was bi-ethnic--the guy had blond hair and blue eyes.Man, let me repeat this again since you don't understand, the one drop rule does NOT apply to people like Obama who have visible black ancestry, it applies to people who look white to the eye but have African ancestry that isn't visible and there is no longer any one drop rule. Its a common misperception that the one drop rule applied to anyone of mixed ancestry, not so. And that one drop rule wasn't something created and imposed by blacks, it was done by whites to keep their racial purity, but despite that, the ODR played a majority part in creating the AA community and starting the AA identity even though it no longer exists. |
I think plenty of people misunderstand the intent and use of the one drop rule so let me clear it up. Number one, there no longer is any one drop rule, people freely self identify as they like, the law itself has been nonexistent for a long time. Number two, the one drop rule did not apply to all people with mixed ancestry, it only applied to people with African ancestry who look visibly white to the eye and it was intended to specifically keep those people from passing as white and enjoying the same rights as whites. Of course, if you visibly had any African ancestry you were black and the one drop rule didn't apply so people like Obama would have been black in the days of the one drop rule, people like Wentworth Miller and Walter White would have had the one drop rule applied to them. @Inked-nerd Look, I never denied that so AAs have self hate but in terms of numbers, very, very few AAs identify themselves as Native Americans, are there plenty who claim some Native American ancestry? Yes, but as I pointed out, thats a very different thing from solely identifying as Native American. AAs strongly identify as black so much that Dominicans and even some Brazilians complain that AAs like "one dropping" them. It is the blacks of Latin America that have the problem of denying their African roots, not so much so in the US. |
I am AA and I'm telling you, almost no AA identifies as Native American, to claim to have some ancestry from a particular group and to identify as that group are two different things and the occurrences you're talking about are far, far rare, not even common among African Americans, almost NONE identify as Native American, you want to see people of African descent deny their African roots? Go to Dominican Republican or some places in Cuba and Puerto Rico, but in the US that is rare to almost nonexistent, so please quit trying to trump up your rare occurrences among AAs as something that standard. If anything, there are people who look completely white who deny their whiteness and say they're Native American and thats far more common among them than among AAs. The fact is that some AAs do have Native American ancestry, but many do not, but to claim to have some Native American ancestry is NOT rejecting nor denying their African lineage. I know some Africans who don't even see AAs as truly black people, but those aqre rare, ignorant people so I don't even waste my time bringing them up. Your problem is a problem of misunderstanding, |
To clarify some points here, some African Americans claim to have some Native American ancestry but almost NONE identify as Native Americans. there's a big difference between those two points of view. And again, when AAs say w're not African they mean it in the sense that they're not Africans of the continental type, no one denies they're of African descent and or black and we don't pretend to have arisen out of a puff of smoke in America. You Nigerians know whether you are Yoruba, Hausa, Kanuri, Edo or Igbo, AAs are just limited primarily to just saying African-American. African is such a broad term, so if yome one walks up to me and says they're African I will not know which group or country they come from unless they tell me. |
It is not my intent to tear down an African, hell, my DNA from African Ancestry confirms that my ancestors came from Nigeria, Igbo, thats why I'm here, to learn from Nigerians themselves. Like I've always said, to me there is no difference between AAs and Africans aside from cultural differences, take that away whats the difference? |
I'm African American of Barbadian descent, second generation on my mom side and African American on my dad side. I posted one of my old pics in another thread. |
WTF? I never knew for this to be true and I live in Europe where stripping and all kinds of the forbidden go on. |
When I was single, I dated a fair amount of women, a lot them African, while stationed here in Germany and the Igbo sistas, for real, always played the hardest get, but always took care of me very well and treated me very nice, they take care of their men very good, but for some odd reason they were always a little harder on me than on African men. AA men are not generally known to be players, but I always got treated like one, I wonder why? Igbos where you at? |
Me in my Army years as a young soldier

Who are your progenitor? You all did not come from out of a vacuum. Your ancestors roamed with my ancestors on the continent of Africa. So in a way, we are indeed your Alpha, because we are the source of your culture. Do not ever forget that. A person who is not culturally grounded is someone who can be easily blown away.Africa is the source from whence we come, but YOU are not my Alpha and Omega you ignorant jackass, get off the your fake pedestal, the only difference between you and I is that you know the group in Africa you come from and identify with it, I know the group I descend, but because of years and generations of separation I identify as African American. My ancestors, incidentally, came from Nigeria, maternally, at least according to African Ancestry.com whom I did my DNA test with. And I knew you would bring up the issue of slavery. Slavery is such a complex issue, maybe you should take a look at this section and learn about the intricacies of slavery. Yes, some Africans groups sold slaves to the white man. I will not deny that, in fact, my ancestors built up a commercial empire doing that.Which explains your ignorant ass superiority complex towards AAs, yet you say YOU are my Alpha and Omega? No, you were the sell out Uncle Tom that sold Africans to the white man. Did you have the audacity to say the most influential people? You AA are known for your bravado, but the fact remains that you all are still considered 2nd class citizens within a nation that you built.Yes we have become some of the most influential people on the planet, almost everywhere you go you here OUR music, you see OUR style of dress and you see others imitating it. Without us there would be no American culture or even American itself but most of what is American culture was created by AAs, these are facts, be a hater if you want. NOTE: I never said AAs are the most influential people in the world, I said we are some of the most influential people in the world, near the very top. Yeah, America still treats some of us like second class but thats not different in Africa where a lot of people get treated just the same and even worse, so whats your point? You have some stupid ass superiority complex. Many of you do not even know your roots. A case in point that many want to distance yourselves from being called African American and instead like the name "Black American." You may know your roots, but ask the average black person on the streets of America and they will say "I am not an African, do I look like I live in a hut?" Or they may say, "do you think I live in trees?" I have no problems with AAs who are culturally grounded.make up you damn mind, first you say we don't know our roots then you say we do but, And no, AAs are not Africans in the continental sense, so if any AA says they're not African they mean it in that specific context, no AA denies their African roots or says they're not of African descent. As for your comments about huts and living in trees, I've heard other Africans talk down on fellow Africans even worse than that and the typical AA isn't going to make dumb ass comments like that. And the Africans who claim the are descendants of Mohammed, that is more for religious reasons than racial reasons. In Islamic culture, people who are descendants of Mohammed are given a certain level of respect, because their ancestor is the one who founded the faith. You will descendants of Mohammed in Africa, the Middle East and Asia so it is not an African thing. My point stands, you have Africans who claim all kinds of exotic origins when they are just Africans have no descent from Mohammed. I know the reasons behind it, but the fact remains people still want to claim Mohammed as their ancestor. Do not talk to a Nigerian about Brazil. Many Nigerians are descendants of returned slaves from Brazil. If you go to the Brazilian state of Bahia, you will find many who still speak their indigenous language or a dialect of their language. And don't give me that nonsense about the Caribbean and Brazilian slaves who kept their culture. You have to be one dumbass to stick your head in the sand and deny history, that fact of the matter is that Africans in America were forbidden from showing and preserving any African traditions, as a result, some were lost and some were keep alive by disguise and being recreated. Why do you think the slavemasters imported different African groups into America that didn't speak the same languages? In the caribbean they were allowed to keep more of their traditions, but not in America, I don't give a shit if you reject it, its a well known fact and African Americans share a large proportion of their ancestral roots with Nigerians among other groups, while Brazilians share more, but not all of their ancestral roots with Angolans and Mozambicans and people from Congo. You pretend that Africans purposely stopped wanting to be African when they got off the boats in America. There was even a group in North America, I think they are known as the Gullah people who were able to keep many aspects of their culture. What I want to know is why didn't many of you did not keep your culture and instead embrace the white man's culture and religion. You ignorant little shit, learn about the Gullah people before you open your mouth: http://yale.edu/glc/gullah/04.htm The Gullah slaves in coastal South Carolina and Georgia lived in a very different situation from that of slaves in other North American colonies. The Gullahs had little contact with whites. They experienced a largely isolated community life on the rice plantations, and their isolation and numerical strength enabled them to preserve a great many African cultural traditions. By the early 1700s the Gullah slaves were already bringing together distinctive language, rituals, customs, music, crafts, and diet drawing on the cultures of the various African tribes they represented. The emergence of the Gullah was due, above all, to the isolation of black slaves in a disease environment hostile to whites and to their numerical predominance in the region—but another important factor was the continuing importation of slaves directly from Africa, and especially from the rice-growing areas along the West Coast. The South Carolina and Georgia planters realized that the specialized nature of their crop required a constant influx of slaves born in Africa, not in the West Indies or in the neighboring colonies. So, a black community, already isolated from whites, was being constantly renewed by forced immigration from Africa. Now your ignorant ass knows why Gullahs are the exception and not the rule. |
Some of these AA posters act like we owe them something. We do not owe them anything. Using terms like "look up to them." What kind of condescending statements are this? They should be looking up to us, because we are there cultural forbears. We are their Alpha and their Omega. No, I never said Africans or African Americans should look up to anyone, but no, YOU are not our Alpha and Omega, in fact the same people we descend from are also the same people that sold us to the white man in the first place, thats why AAs shouldn't have to look up to Africans. After being sold to the white man and being enslaved, we have overcame, multiplied and became some of the most influential people in the world, thats not me bragging just thats the truth, be a hater if you like. To me, Africans and AAs are no better than each other, so you can kiss my ass with your stupid statement about us looking up to you, who the Bleep are you anyways? lol. When will they realize that they need to go to the source and that is Africa? We know our roots, thus thats why we call ourselves African Americans, we may not know the exact ethnic group we descend but we know the continent they came from. Actually knowledge of the specific groups we come from was taken away and stolen from us at no fault of our own. Also, ethnicity in Africa itself is fluid, a person who is Igbo, Yoruba, Swahili or Sudanese Arab today may have ancestors who may not have identified as such hundreds of years ago. They have forsaken their African roots, and would rather be considered a Native America such as the Iroquois or their favorite, Cherokee indian. Some African Americans do have Native American ancestry, some do not and despite any white or potential Native American ancestry, damn near all African Americans identify as black, so quit your cliched bullshit, what about that Africans that claim to be Arabs and or descendants of Mohammed who are too ashamed of their African roots and consider Arabs to be superior? Caribbeans and Brazilians understand that their roots are in Africa. Only a few AA or should say I Black Americans have realized this.Brazilians have a shit load of racial terms to describe themselves and they know their roots more for the simple fact that in the Caribbean and Brazil the slaves were allowed to retain more of their African culture than in American, not because AAs have forsaken any African roots you dumb jackass. When some of us finally do learn our roots in Africa we are proud and even emotional like Judge Glenda Hatchett: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEHv9yy0vWc&playnext=1&list=PLF98901139F5D008E |
I'm married to a North African woman from Morocco, never had any problems with Moroccans or any other North African group, at least not in Germany or in Paris and much of France where there are loads of Moroccans. As for my fellow AA people and the struggle, well, we have accomplished a lot, who would have ever thought that a black man would be the leader of a country where whites once enslaved us and the majority of the population is white? The struggles we have to day are way more subtle than before when it was outright overt racism, its just a different way to fight, so we haven't regressed. |
Not all, but lol, most of them are cool as hell, the brothers are cool, the African sisters are something else, lol, they try to be slick all the time, Most are not lower class but work decent jobs, I live in a pretty upscale part of the city where I stay and there are Africans there. |
I don't think you are one of those backward African Americans but I like I told the OP, this is something you may not fully understand unless you're African and have experienced this. By the way, what are you doing in Paris?my wife brought me to Paris, i really wasn't all that eager to go and I enjoy it, I live only 3 hours away from Paris, just right across the border from France. When she met up with other Moroccans that was the only time I go nervous, I thought they would trip at the sight of me being married to one of their women, but since my wife looks black or like a mixed race black they didn't trip at all. The good thing about Paris is that I blended in with the blacks there and wasn't given a second look and even when I said I was AA the people were cool. |
In all honesty, you shouldn't be looking to Africans for a fair assessment of AAs. As I said before, the vast majority of Africans and, from my experience, even the majority of African immigrants or their kids don't know about AA achievers in various fields (writing, art, music, science, politics, history, etc.) except for the few most popular ones, so most haven't taken the time to really learn all about the group that they're reaching so many conclusions about. My view is different from most but it's not blind praise for AAs (though they definitely deserve praise for how far they've come) or believing only what I would like to believe. This is what I don't understand, the Africans I've talked to here in Germany are not very fond of AAs mostly because AA men and African men compete for these German women, in Paris all the Africans are cool with me, some of the Nigerians think I'm an Igbo who can act and talk like an AA which is funny because I dont get offend at being mistaken for an Igbo, but in London its the same like in Germany, Africans there are not very fond of AAs. I guess attitudes will vary according to region. I have great respect for a lot of things in Africa and know most of what happens bad there is due to the former European colonists meddling in African affairs, not the masses of the people themselves. |
Except for a few very backward AAs, I think the majority of AAs aren't negative towards Africans, definitely not me since in Paris I've been mistaken for a Nigerian alot and to tell the truth, I was never offended by it. My wife, who is Moroccan, initially thought I was one too, until I started talking and then it was cool. |
That I do know, but damn, I'm not really shocked that some Africans hold such backward views about AAs, but I take it with a grain of salt. I know my history and I know African history. |
Actually, I don't give a shit if Africans praise AAs or not but when people exaggerate shit about my people and make us look like lost, backwards people I will respond. From being in Germany, I've heard a lot of negative things about Nigerians, even from other Africans, but I don't have a blanket view of all Nigerians, some are cool, some are not, the same with fellow AAs over here. |
Yeah more of the same redundant bullshit about young African Americans being no good, blah, blah, the same shit was said about my parents in the 60s and 70s and those people have grown up to be outstanding citizens. I have a young son myself who likes rap music and yet he isn't the stereotype of what some of the Africans think about young African Americans, plus I myself of the hiphop age. The truth of matter is that all kids of all colors are rebellious as teens in some way shape or form, yet the notion that most AA kids is lost is false, the majority do the right thing, but funny how Africans here think they're the moral authorities. As an AA myself I know the real story and I'm no mere outsider observing it. |
Some of us laugh at the ignorance from some members from your community, however we also realize that many of your community is searching for their ancestrial origins, therefore some of us give you a past for your ignorance or lack of knowledge of Africas diverse population. We recognize our ancestral origins, thats why we call ourselves African Americans, unlike some Africans, especially the Muslims who swear they descend from Arabs and Mohammed. Despite knowing our origins, we know recognize that we are a distinct group of people who have developed our own history, culture and customs within America, in fact, most of what people call "American" was created by African Americans. From what I see there are certain Africans who don't know shit about AAs except negative, stereotypical bullshit. |
I'm not the one thats whining, you are, whining about how bad AAs are supposed to be. I am an AA and I lived damn near my entire life around AAS, thats why I know its stupid for anyone to say that rap music makes AAs backwards, that notion is only parroting whites. Don't get it twisted, AAs have not regressed, if we did Africans would not be able to come to America and have it as good as they have it now. And don't make stupid ass comments talking how AAs don't respect themselves and then generalize about how all Africans respect themselves. Its really retarded for an African to look down on an AA to make themselves look bigger considering everything going on in Africa. |
I think most of the stuff I'm hearing is stereotypical anti-African American bullshit. Any time someone believes rap music of all things, causes AAs to commit crimes is off their rockers. Over here I've heard some of the same anti-AA things but mostly from haters. In none of my posts have I ever tried to paint a picture of AAs being perfect people that are better than anyone, I even went as far as to say that any comparisons between us and Africans is stupid, yet some people still felt a need to generalize about all AAs and post out right lies about us. |
Naw Bleep it, let me educated the jackasses about AA: Don't actually know what you guys have done that I should be proud of. Even your Obama is of the dictate of the majority. He hate Africans but professed to originates from there. You know what I think, some of you guys are just educated illiterates. The few educated ones amongst you still calls Africa a country.Name me one African leaders who hasn't been corrupt since the days your colonial masters left Africa who hasn't devoured and sold out his own people since you want to go there. Obama, as bad as he is with some things, was elected by the people, not put in place by a coup. Although you're being marginalize, stigmatize, disproportionately under-represented in decision making bodies, and often used as scapegoat when new laws are passed, you lack the skills and motivation to go on yourselves and make it big.Africa has the resources and so called smarts that us AAs are supposed to lack, yet the IMF and World Bank and your former colonial masters still control you all, explain that. Us AAs came from slavery from a people in Africa that sold us to the white man and have influenced the world all over and have made it big in our own country, you Africans still beg the IMF and World bank for crumbs and flee everywhere else to make it big except your own country. Explain that. Enough of the media blaming. Crack is destroying the AA communityEvidence or are you pulling random bullshit out of your ignorant ass? Crack is destroying us? Thats funny because I don't see the same thing. I guess an ignorant African associates crack with blacks and makes an ignorant assumption, when in reality crack and most other drugs are used more by whites than blacks. You're just 13% of the entire population and already 27% of you are in Prison for drug related offences.Yeah, because of disproportionate laws that give a heavier sentence for crack cocaine over powder cocaine, not because we're constantly selling drugs more than everyone else and black neighborhoods are targeted more frequently by police, but go on and believe the bullshit that we're a people of drug dealer. You glorify rap music that is so disrespectful not only to women but to your mothers. Rap music account for the deviant behaviour amongst AA.there are 41 million AAs and you mean to tell me that we all ,listen to rap music? Bleep outta man, lol, rap music isn't the problem and not all rap is negative any ways. The environment and where these kids like account for their behavior, neighborhoods didnt become bad because of rap music you idiot, there were bad neighborhoods BEFORE there was hiphop. The Public Enemys, KRS-Ones, Talib Kweli, The Roots, etc, are not negative rappers, its the bullshit that mostly white record company owners are pushing that are negative. There is no correlation between hiphop music and crime among blacks. Even if it was, whats the problem with Africans? You have none of the problems that we have in our land yet you can only make it big by fleeing from your land and coming to America, France or Britain, where have AAs fled to make it big? |
