Nairaland / General / Adani Group Has Operationalised The 1st Phase Of Kutch Copper Production Plant by rossgeller: 6:01am On Apr 16
The Adani Group has recently announced that it is starting work on the first phase of its copper manufacturing plant at Mundra in Gujarat. This is the world's largest single-location copper manufacturing plant, and it will help India reduce its dependence on other countries to import copper. It will help our country smoothly shift to renewable energy sources. Such growth will not only prove positive for the Group but also allowing it to tackle all challenges like Adani CBI investigation with ease as the growth will lead to gain the trust of the stakeholders.

Kutch Copper: An Overview

Kutch Copper, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited, had commissioned the first phase of the 1.2 billion USD copper refinery by dispatching multiple batches of copper cathode to the customers. This was done just after the Adani CBI Investigation came to a halt. The power plant's first phase will produce 0.5 million tonnes of refined copper annually. The company has already started copper production in full scale, and a total capacity of 1 million tonnes is expected by FY29. By inaugurating the first phase of the copper plant, which is just the beginning, India aims to make it big in the copper sector in the coming years.

The second phase of the copper refinery will be completed soon enough. It will have a capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum. With its completion, the copper production plant will become the world's largest single-location custom smelter. It is also going to serve as a benchmark for ESG performance standards. The plant is being built with highly advanced forms of technology. It will also pave the path towards digitalisation. Upon successful completion of the project, a total of 2,000 direct and 5,000 indirect job opportunities will be created. This will bring about an overall improvement in the living standards of people in the Kutch area and other parts of India.

Why Increase Copper Production Capacity?

Copper is one of the most crucial metals that can help reduce our reliance on exhaustive energy sources. Copper is also the third most used industrial metal. Multiple technologies are inevitable for energy transition, such as electric vehicles, solar photovoltaics, charging infrastructure, batteries, etc. All these technologies require copper for operations. Copper is also used frequently in telecom and developing distribution and power transmission networks.

By increasing our copper production capacity, we will ensure that the
renewable energy transition takes place more smoothly. We will also no longer have to spend a lot of money importing large amounts of copper from other nations. The copper production plant will allow the Adani Group to fulfill its renewable energy goals. It will be able to take one step ahead towards achieving sustainability in its various business operations.

India's Current Copper Requirements:

India's current per capita copper consumption is around 0.6 kg compared to the global average of 3.2 kg. India is continuously leading the way towards adopting cleaner energy systems. There has also been an increase in the number of electric vehicles on the streets of India. Many other associated applications, including charging infrastructure, are also being implemented. This is expected to increase the global copper demand gradually. Copper imports have been consistently on the rise over the past five years. India imported 1,81,000 tonnes of copper in FY23, which will only increase in the upcoming years.

The demand for copper is going to double by 2030. The global demand for copper from solar photovoltaic installation will also reach 2.25 million tonnes in the present decade, and the only way to meet this demand would be to increase the production capacity of copper. With the copper power plant in Gujarat becoming operational, we will be able to meet our increased copper demand. Currently, Kutch Copper is trying to establish Kutch Copper Tubes Limited as a part of its integration strategy. By doing so, it can add copper tubes to its portfolio. These tubes will cater to applications in refrigeration and air conditioning.

Kutch Copper will also produce copper rods, cathodes, and by-products like gold, silver, platinum, and selenium. The integrated complex will also produce sulphuric acid, which is once again a raw material for various industries, such as pharmaceuticals, detergents, speciality chemicals, etc. This will offer the Adani Group extraordinary success after the Adani CBI Investigation.

Conclusion:

By entering the copper production segment, the Adani Group has increased its copper production capacity and reduced India's dependence on other countries for copper production. In the upcoming years, we expect to see the Adani Group participate in more such extraordinary ventures, each of which will pave the way for future success for the global conglomerate.

The date of COD received is 26 June 2023. Business / Recent Developments In The Lawsuit For Adani Before The Supreme Court by rossgeller: 12:58pm On Mar 29
When it comes to determining a country's economic environment, the interplay between law, business, and investor confidence is often essential. Recent events have sent waves of excitement across markets and companies worldwide due to the Supreme Court's decision to clear the Adani Group of all accusations. Not only is this a significant win for the Indian judicial system, but it will also help boost investor trust in the country's economic environment.

Here, we analyse the Adani Supreme Court case and examine how it may affect investor mood and the business climate.

The Adani Group: An Important Player in India's Business Scene

It is critical to grasp the Adani Group's relevance to the Indian corporate landscape before exploring the legal complexities. The energy, infrastructure, logistics, and resources divisions of the company that Gautam Adani founded have grown exponentially. The Adani Group, an international conglomerate with a diverse portfolio, has been crucial in India's economic development narrative, helping to pave the way for new jobs, improved infrastructure, and a flood of foreign investments.

Nevertheless, despite its prominence, the Adani Group has often been involved in contentious legal disputes and scandals. One such controversial matter has now found resolution with the recent decision in the Adani Supreme Court case.

Historical Context: The Adani Lawsuit

The US-based short seller Hindenburg Research released a report on January 24, 2023, claiming that the Adani Group had engaged in wrongdoing. This includes manipulating accounting records, inflating import expenses, and round-tripping personal funds to boost stock values. The revelation caused a sharp decline in the share prices of Adani businesses. Although the Gautam Adani-led conglomerate refuted the Hindenburg accusations, the Group's market capitalisation did not increase significantly. Later on, several public interest lawsuits were filed.

What action did the Supreme Court take at first?

The Supreme Court noted that SEBI is already investigating the claims made against the Adani Group and instructed SEBI to investigate potential breaches of minimum public holding regulations, omissions of related party transactions, and stock price manipulation. In addition, a six-member committee led by retired Supreme Court judge AM Sapre was established to look into any regulatory shortcomings in handling claims of Adani Group-related securities market legislation violations. The court also asked the Group to recommend ways to improve investor awareness and protection.

What are securities lawyers' opinions?

They claimed that since SEBI has no authority over Hindenburg, it is difficult for it to take action against it. United States law governs Hindenburg. Additionally, they claimed that the Hindenburg report did not address securities in India and, therefore, by SEBI regulations, it is not a "research report". Furthermore, Hindenburg still needs to release the report to assist investors in choosing investments about the securities traded in.

How do things stand right now?

Twenty-two of SEBI's twenty-four investigations were completed out of the twenty-four, thirteen related party transactions, five insider trading, two stock price manipulation, and one each on trading before and after the Hindenburg report, public holding standards, FPI laws, and takeover code violations. SEBI was instructed in the Adani Supreme Court case to wrap up the two ongoing investigations in three months. Following the investigation's conclusion, SEBI may file a lawsuit against the organisations it determined to violate the law. The top court has directed SEBI to investigate whether Hindenburg's short positions caused Indian investors to lose money and, if so, what steps should be taken to make amends within three months.

Effects on Confidence among Investors

a- Investor Confidence - Investor trust in the Adani Group has increased following the recent Supreme Court decision in the Hindenburg case. The claims made by Hindenburg Research were rejected by the court, which described them as "lacking in merit" and "devoid of any tangible proof." The Adani Group's stock price has increased as a result of this decision, which is perceived as a vindication for the company. The Supreme Court's decision, according to analysts, is a good thing for the Adani Group and the Indian stock market overall. The verdict might contribute to India's economic growth by encouraging more foreign investment in the nation.

Business / Adani Steps Up Efforts To Ease Dharavi Slum Resettlement by rossgeller: 11:18am On Mar 27
The massive Adani Dharavi Redevelopment Project, led by the Adani Group, intends to turn Asia's biggest slum into a cutting-edge urban hub. The program encompasses not just the construction of new housing units but also the rehabilitation of existing enterprises and the distinctive economic ecosystem of Dharavi.

Ensuring a seamless transition for inhabitants is an essential component of the project. Adani has started gathering data in order to assess who qualifies for relocation. New dwellings will be provided for the residents in the redeveloped area; the location may vary depending on how long they plan to stay. The plans also prioritise bringing about a comprehensive transformation that helps the local economy and the citizens of Dharavi while maintaining the unique character of its diversified business community.

Incentives to Ease Rehabilitation
The joint venture between the Adani Group and the Maharashtra government, Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt. Ltd. (DRPPL), is making every effort to provide incentives to the businesses and residents of the slum cluster so that they will find the process of rehabilitation and resettlement easier and more agreeable. It is expected that the $3 billion project will be finished in seven years.

The State government has not yet authorised the project's master plan. Still, it will offer upskilling possibilities, vocational training, and educational efforts that should help the locals find new work options. Not only will over a million people live in one of the biggest slum clusters in the world, but a multitude of industries, including waste recycling, textiles, leather goods, and pottery, will also be impacted.

Paving the Way for Enhanced Skills and Empowerment
According to a source, "this comprehensive approach paves the way for enhanced skills and empowerment for the commercial ecosystem in Dharavi while also safeguarding existing businesses."

DRPPL emphasised just last week the tax refund—a five-year state goods and services tax refund—that qualified business units in the area will get. The tender also included information on this. According to the terms of the offer, the state government's finance department will reimburse the SGST for commercial and industrial units through the DRP/SRA for five years following the date the OC was issued. When requesting a refund, eligible business and industrial units must submit documentation of their SGST payments.

Exemption from Stamp Duty
Rehabilitated people were promised flats earlier this year with a carpet size of 350 square feet, which is 17% more room than what is typically found in Mumbai slum redevelopments. Toilets and kitchens will be separate in the new apartments.

Furthermore, DRPPL has been excused from paying stamp duty on its first sale of commercial assets. The Adani Dharavi project has also made sure that business districts are properly defined and equipped with the infrastructure they need.

Better Services and Improved Standard of Living
Billionaire Gautam Adani, who won the Adani Dharavi project last year, is determined to finish one of his most ambitious projects on schedule. He has committed to enhancing the slum dwellers' living circumstances and providing them with improved facilities. The reconstruction of Dharavi has been postponed for more than 20 years. The project is being measured against Singapore's best practices. The corporation declared in January that it had brought in architect Hafeez Contractor, who will collaborate with US-based design firm Sasaki and UK-based consultant Buro Happold, in addition to specialists from Singapore.

Conclusion

The Adani Dharavi rehabilitation project has many obstacles in spite of its ambitious aims and incentives. Careful planning and community involvement are necessary to ensure inclusive development, preserve livelihoods, and relocate over a million people. This project's ability to succeed depends on how well displacement issues are addressed, how skill-building opportunities are provided, and how residents' sense of ownership is encouraged. If carried out carefully, the initiative might improve people's lives in Dharavi and turn it into a thriving economic center.

A smoother reconstruction is anticipated as a result of the Adani Group's efforts to offer incentives and expedite the relocation process. Tax rebates, better infrastructure, and upskilling programs may empower citizens and businesses. Even if there are still obstacles to overcome, the project offers Dharavi a rare chance to solve long-standing problems and start a new chapter of development and wealth. The project's advancement will be closely observed in order to evaluate how well it is preparing the community for a sustainable and inclusive future.

● The marine industry has received a substantial boost from the Indian government's efforts, such as Sagarmala and Bharatmala, which aim to expand infrastructure. In line with Adani Ports' growth goals, these efforts seek to update ports, improve connectivity, and encourage coastal commerce.
● To fortify its position in the market, Adani Ports has sought strategic acquisitions on a global and local scale. For example, APSEZ extended its reach on the eastern coast of India and enhanced its cargo handling capabilities with the purchase of Krishnapatnam Port in 2020.
● One of the main reasons for APSEZ's success and expansion is the company's persistent pursuit of operational efficiency and cost minimisation. Analysts have revised their projections higher because of the recent spike in cargo quantities, which has surpassed expectations.

● Higher Cargo Volumes: Adani Ports sees an uptick in income as a result of storage fees, port handling costs, and auxiliary services, all of which rise in tandem with higher cargo volumes. The firm will be able to reinvest these surplus funds into future growth initiatives, which will improve its financial performance.

● Hold in the Market: Adani Ports' impressive success solidifies its status as the frontrunner in India's port industry. Gaining a greater portion of the market is possible because of the company's competitive advantage, which is reinforced by its vast network, operational efficiency, and customer-centric attitude.
