CelebritiesPop Africa Weekly Celebrity In Focus: Minnie Dlamini by RothmasPop(op): 10:21pm On Mar 18, 2015
Minnie Dlamini is a South African television personality who was born Minenhle Dlamini on July 07, 1990 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She came to fame after entering a presenter search competition for SABC 1’s Live, she went on to win that competition and made her television debut.
Minnie Dlamini was born and grew up in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

She attended Northlands Girls High School.

In 2010, when Live presenter search got underway, Dlamini was a student at the University of Cape Town (UCT), Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.

The presenter search began in April of that year, by June, Dlamini had become the winner and had a place on one of the country’s most watched television shows.

Live, at the time headed by Bonang Matheba, Tbo Touch, MTV VJ Sizwe Dhlomo and the lesser known Phila Mazibuko.

Dlamini had a mammoth task is her hands if she was ever going to shine in the face of such star power.

Bonang Matheba, at the time and to this day, perhaps the greatest female or entertainer of any kind in South Africa.

This was not a deterrent for Dlamini.

She quickly came to her own, arguably, her growth came at a much faster speed and in far greater volumes.

In just a few months, she received a role on SABC 1’s sopie, Generations as Miranda, the only show that dwarfs Live in the country.

Minnie Dlamini had truly arrived, the amount of exposure and variety of audience she received from these two shows was more than enough to turn any unknown into an instant star.

Her stay on Live was short lived, she and Phila Mazibuko moved on to another SABC 1 show, Mzansi Insider. It is there that Dlamini solidified her status as the next best thing in the South African entertainment landscape. At this point she was heading her own show along someone who had far less of shadow compared to her counterparts on Live.

In less than a year after winning a presenter search, she had out grown that show appeared on Generations and went on to have her own show.

In 2011 Dlamini was cast as Zintle Lebone on star studded M-Net’s The Wild, the show was new at the time and had enlisted the services of Shona Ferguson (Scandal as Alex), Tumisho Masha (Isidingo as Dumisani),Connie Ferguson (Generations as Karabo), Faye Peters (Generations as Vivian) among many others.

Despite the star power on the show, particularly that of Connie Ferguson who had anchored Generations for over 15 years, it failed after two seasons and stopped production in 2012/13.

In 2012 Dlamini appeared as a guest judge on SABC 1’s Turn It Out and co-presented Miss South Africa.
In 2013 the SABC had gone on forever over it’s plans to bring new exciting innovations and channels, while the channels never came or are yet to come, at the time Dlamini was spending some time with the SABC 3’s Expresso crew, those innovations came in a form of revamping a long running football highlights show and introducing Thomas Mlambo and Minnie Dlamini as co-hosts.

That same year, she joined The Wild exodus on M-Net’s Rockville as Nosipho Bogatsu.

On February 28, 2015 Minnie Dlamini co-hosted the 14th Annual Metro FM Music Awards with T-Bo Touch live from Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) while Pearl Modiadie hosted the post award interviews with Tsholofelo Maseko and Mzambiya reporting from the public viewing area at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

BusinessAliko Dangote To Launch $400 Million Cement Plant In Zambia by RothmasPop(op): 1:45pm On Mar 14, 2015
A $400 million cement plant in Zambia owned by Dangote Group will be commissioned and commence operations by the end of March, according to a report by the Lusaka Times.

Speaking to a group of Journalists on Thursday at departure at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and owner of the Dangote Group, said that the commissioning of the new cement plant which is located in Masaiti district in the Copperbelt, had been delayed as a result of flooding and a delay in getting the requisite permits from the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA).

“Hopefully, we will start production in the next two to three weeks or so and I think we are overcoming that. But the rainy season this year has been very intense which has given us a lesson to protect ourselves next time we are in operations. So by and large, we are pushing and the team will try and deliver the factory by the end of this month, our power is already on so we are making good progress,” Dangote said.

Once operational, the Dangote Cement Plant will have a production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes annually and will create at least 1,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, Dangote is constructing another Cement Plant in Chilanga, a small town 20 km south of Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka. The cement plant in Chilanga will cost an estimated $420 million.

“We have made good progress on the plant in Lusaka, we have already got permission to get into the land and start mining, so hopefully the same contractor might move there and build an identical plant with the one in Masaiti,” Dangote said.

Aliko Dangote has been Africa’s richest man for the past 5 years. His current fortune is estimated at $15.9 billion derived from investments in cement, sugar and flour.

BusinessAre You An African Entrepreneur Under 22? Apply For The 5th Anzisha Prize Today! by RothmasPop(op): 12:48am On Mar 13, 2015
The impact and success of the program to date has encouraged co-hosts African Leadership Academy and The MasterCard Foundation to extend their collaboration for a further 5 years. The Anzisha Prize will be a feature of the entrepreneur landscape in Africa until 2020, and aggressively expand its activities to not only encourage young entrepreneurs, but strengthen and celebrate the ecosystem of organisations that develop young African entrepreneurial talent in this age group.

They call it the #AnzishaEffect, and it is the power of stories about the very youngest entrepreneurs among us to encourage others to follow in their footsteps. Africa needs strong, innovative entrepreneurial young leaders to create jobs, solve problems and drive our economies. Our continent’s future will be determined by entrepreneurial leaders across all sectors.

“We have already seen the #AnzishaEffect at work through the inspirational stories and leadership of Anzisha Fellows like Laetitia Mukungu, Andrew Mupuya and Thato Kgatlhanye. They are now globally recognized and celebrated role models,” says Reeta Roy, President and CEO of The MasterCard Foundation. “We’re excited about expanding our support of the Anzisha Prize so that many more young entrepreneurs in Africa can make a lasting impact in their communities and countries.”

Each year, 12 finalists win a two-week trip to South Africa for a learning experience of a lifetime at African Leadership Academy, and share over $75,000 USD in cash funding. At a Gala Dinner, the grand prize winner is announced and receives $25,000 with which to grow their business. From 2015, Anzisha Fellows will be actively supported through the recently launched Youth Entrepreneur Support Unit (YES-U), based at African Leadership Academy, which is a collaboration with leading business incubators on the continent. Mentorship, consulting services, community gatherings and travel opportunities will now define the fellow experience as they grow their business ventures. New programs will be announced soon that focus on and invest into other areas of the youth entrepreneur value chain.
