Politics / Who Are You Representing: Do You Have Any Sense Of Shame? by rotimage(m): 2:37pm On Apr 20, 2016 |
By: Isiyaku Eazee Abdullahi Do you have any sense of shame? You said you are representing your constituency. You have been in the State Assembly, House of Representatives or Senate for more than two terms. Now you are serving your third or fourth time and in all these years, you have never sponsored a bill, raised a motion, or even rise to raise any issue of national interest or of concern to your constituents. All you do is to buy beautiful dress, iron them well, polish your Italian shoe, wear designer wrist watches and sit in the hallowed chambers to warm your seat , occasionally clap when you hear something about allowances, doze off, wake up when there is a loud noise of the usual "yes", raise your hand in support without knowing what you are supporting, the plenary ends, you drive away. The following day, exotic jeeps are brought to the Assembly and shared. You walk smiling from molar to molar, you collect your keys and move away with your car while raining praises on the Chief Presiding officers. You have never brought a project to your constituency, you got no job for no one. Even your legislative aides were hired from Abuja. No one from your place is worth the job. You hardly come home to your people . When you do, it is once in a year and you use such opportunity to show off your latest car as you drive round town in obvious display of primitive arrogance. When your children are getting married, your home town is no longer good enough to host your in laws. The marriage is consummated in Abuja, supervised by your new found friends and family in Abuja. Your kinsmen are too primitive and unpolished to represent your family. You spend several millions in celebration when your constituents are hungry and at least one of them dies every week as a result of some sickness and lack of drugs which ten or twenty thousand naira could have provided. Then you wait.....until some months to election. You remember your people, your home town, your family, your old friends. Then you start looking for a few miserable bags of rice to share. You accompany it with some stupid bars of soap and sometimes, make it heavy with some God-punished one or two thousand naira expecting people's support. I ask you; please who are you representing? What do you still think of Nigerians? If you know that is what you do, don't even come home before and after 2019. Nigerians are so poor , they can't afford guns to shoot at you. But you know what? They have their voices; very angry and hot voices to shout you down and off. Some have stones around their houses and when they see you, they can stone you and they will not listen even if we beg them. If you are in doubt, ask your friend who went to Ningi displaying his affluence, exhibiting his arrogance and he met with anger of a people completely misrepresented. This is 2016, may we be alive to see 2019. 1 Like 1 Share |

Politics / SARAKI Must GO - Director, MURIC by rotimage(m): 7:09pm On Apr 09, 2016 |
PRESS RELEASE BY MUSLIM RIGHTS CONCERN (MURIC). ON SARAKI: SENATE INTEGRITY AT STAKE. The trial of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, began at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) two days ago (Tuesday 5thApril, 2016). Since then, shocking revelations have been made at the proceedings. But the last nail in the coffin is the implication of Saraki in the recent Panama papers where the Senate President allegedly has hidden assets in safe havens abroad. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is constrained to call the attention of honourable members of the Nigerian Senate to the serious and damning implication of this ugly development. The integrity of Senate is at stake here and something needs to be done and very urgently too. It is on record that more than sixty senators accompanied Dr. Bukola Saraki to the CCT on his first day of appearance. The picture has been largely the same during other appearances. The business of Senate was grinded to a halt on each occasion with the attendant waste of tax-payers’ money. While we salute senators for this manifestation of camaraderie, several attempts by the embattled senate president to resist trial suggest that he probably has skeletons in his cupboard. The recent revelations during court proceedings where staggering amounts of money were alleged to have been surreptitiously deposited in bank accounts or siphoned outside this country by the Senate President through his agents also call for caution, concern and sober reflection. The fact that huge sums were reportedly split into smaller amounts and paid fifty (50) times into the same bank account on a single day is quite worrisome. Somebody somewhere knew that the source of the money he intended to deposit in a bank account was illegal. Somebody somewhere wanted to avoid detection. Somebody somewhere knew that he could be detected if the whole amount was paid in bulk and at a go. Somebody somewhere has been a smart Alec. Can honourable members of Senate beat their chests and tell Nigerians that this somebody somewhere is not occupying the highest seat in the hallowed chamber? Is this not desecration of the highest office in Senate? We know that there are honest men and women in Senate. We know there are people of integrity who occupy well-deserved seats in our Senate today. Are our senators waiting until Nigerians start judging all senators by the same parameter? Are our Senators tarrying until Nigerians start invoking popular proverbs like “Birds of the same feather…?” MURIC therefore calls on Senate to do the needful. The Nigerian public is disenchanted with a legislature that cannot satisfy all righteousness. A legislative arm which condones stinking corruption at the leadership level can never be in tandem with Nigeria’s new elixir for anti-corruption. Saraki must go. Those who come to equity must come with clean hands. We cannot afford to have an icon of credibility at the Nigerian apex of the executive only to have the exact opposite in the higher chamber. Perhaps that is why very little progress has been made since May 29, 2015. Saraki is a Trojan horse. The Nigerian masses will know their true friends in Senate in the next few days. They will know those who are ready to sanitise the system and those who are in Senate to pursue the wicked agenda of the super rich against extremely poor Nigerians. The practice whereby ‘monkey dey work, barboon dey chop’ must stop. Workers’ salary cannot take them home even on the day they receive it. Some states are yet to pay the N18,000 minimum wage. Some states also owe as much as three months salary arrears. Our graduates of ten years ago are still roaming the streets. There is hunger and starvation in the land. The average Nigerian lives on less than one dollar ($1) per day. Our per capita income is less than $300. More than 70 million Nigerians are poor. How then can the masses stomach reports of a single person depositing between N600,000 and N900,000 fifty times in a single day? This wide gap between the rich and the poor is nothing short of social economic injustice. It is responsible for the rise in violent crime, particularly armed robbery. Robbers see no difference between robbing with the pen and stealing with the gun. It kills workers’ morale and frustrates the few honest people we still have around. Students use this same socio-economic disequilibrium as an alibi for jettisoning academic pursuit. The youths use it as justification for going into Yahoo-Yahoo and other fraudulent activities. MURIC therefore calls on senators to save Nigeria from the impending doom. Our senators must prove to Nigerians that no single person is greater than Nigeria. It is time for pendulum swing. Distinguished Senators, are you going to be loyal to a particular person or to Nigeria? As a concluding remark, countries like Switzerland and the United States with questionable latitudes in their banking laws which allow kleptomaniacs from Africa to hide their loots must own up, stop the eye service and take urgent steps towards transparency, probity and accountability. Those who make it easy for thieves to hide their loot (and also benefit their economy from the proceeds of looting) live with a moral burden. Professor Ishaq Akintola. Politics / NIGERIANS!!! With PMB There Is Light At The End Of the Tunnel. by rotimage(m): 12:19am On Apr 09, 2016 |
Culled from my Oga's wall (Mal. Ishaku Abdullahi) I went to a filling station in Akure with a friend who is also part of my accreditation team. We became so close and went through the city together. After we got fuel at 180 naira per litre, he asked if i would vote and support Buhari again. My answer was a simple smile. The type of smile which silently pronounces positive defiance and resolution. I told him i had just eaten and if i would need food again later today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year and every other day, then it means i would need for my country, a good leader, an honest leader, a selfless, resolute and courageous leader. I would need Muhammadu Buhari. I know we are passing through difficult times, i know Nigerians are groaning under harsh conditions. I also remember the relationship between mother and child. When children are hungry and crying, the mother quickly runs to prepare a meal. As she does so and the hunger increases in the children, the cry also increases. The mother becomes increasingly worried. She pacifies the children asking for some little patience for the food to be well cooked. The mother can not feed her children with raw food Simply because they are crying. To do so will be to make matters worse as uncooked food could be harmful to children but once the food is ready, the mother serves the food, the children eat, they are satisfied, their cry is swept away by smiles, joy takes over the pain. Such is the story of Nigerians and their chosen leader , Buhari.. I remember one day in my primary school. I was a positively stubborn child and one day , i stepped on a pin which penetrated my left foot. I cried out of pain. My father sat me down on the ground, raised my leg and tried to remove the pin. He pulled and i yelled and cried. The more he pulled, the more i cried loudly. The pain was unbearable. I was soaked in my sweat. I cried and i cried. My father looked at me and i could see his face...it carried my pain. It felt my agony and expressed my desperation. But in spite of all that, he did not stop. He pulled until he brought out the pin. Blood gushed out of my leg. He managed to stop it. He washed my wound, cleaned my leg, applied iodine and bandaged it. I felt relieved and after some days, the pain went away, my leg got healed and i was happy again. Can you see why this process of CHANGE and national transformation must go on? Buhari is a true father of our nation, he feels our pains. He feels our frustration created by saboteurs, he is desperate to end our suffering but he also knows that after this little period of pain, there will come a long period of relief and joy. There is light at the end of the tunnel. There is a war between the people and enemies of the nation and the people will win! 11 Likes 3 Shares |
