If its for the same property that is being advertised for the 3 bedroom at LSDPC Ilupeju, for N25m. I would strongly advise that you negotiate with the vendor. N25m is too high a price for such a property even though Ilupeju is central the property is not new.

This report focuses on the supply of new housing units in the City of Lagos. Lagos as we all know is a major commercial hub in Sub-Sahara Africa. The city not only provides goods and services to Nigeria but also services the entire West African region. Hence, thousands of people migrate to the city annually for various economic reasons. The influx of people into the state has led to a surge in the city’s population which according to rough estimates is at 17 million. The effect of this has resulted in a downward pressure on infrastructures especially in the housing sector. The major providers of housing units in the city are the Government and Public sector Agencies and the private sector. These two groups account for a significant proportion of new housing units developed in the state. There are also housing co-operatives and associations and households who contribute to the provision of housing units in the state.

By 2015, the City of Lagos would have achieved a mega city status making it the third largest city in the world with a population of over 20 million. This will further compound the housing problems in the state unless a viable solution can be found to reduce the gap in the housing deficit of over 2 million. So far efforts by the state Government to increase the number of housing units by providing affordable housing through the introduction of Private Partnership Programmes (PPP) across the state has yielded little or no success. In the last 10 – 15 years, the number of housing units provided by the state ministry of housing along with other agencies namely the Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSDPC) has not exceeded 15,000 units.

I think you have made some unfair comparisons between our society and that of the UK. In the UK an 18 year old can get a job as a school leaver and earn money which can make him or her become financially independent from his or her parents. The same cannot be said of Nigeria whereby it is an upheaval task for a graduate to get a job not talk of now just having a WAEC certificate which most employers will glady snub any day.

I'm sure if you did a survey of youths in Nigeria you will find that most will rather not depend on their parents for money but given the rate of high umemployment in the country the reality is different. Also you made a comment that you were able to save money whilst staying at your parents house in London and buy your flat at the age of 25. I am sure this was when the economy was still buoyant in the UK and people could get good jobs easily after leaving school.

The problem isn't with parents helping out their kids rather the problem lies within our society where graduates capable of working are not giving jobs on merit but instead jobs are offered to those who have the right connections in certain places.
