There seems to be total non-existence of technological incubators, hubs and science parks in nigeria to lend support to technology start-ups in the country. In a country of over 150 million people with massive wealth, it is a pity that nigeria has steadily remained at the wronng end of technlogical development. Corporate bodies and the government are quick to shout out how they wish to curb unemployment but have been totally blind to the vast opportunities that abound in ICT. The asian tigers have invested so much in IT that they are now viable sources of income and hitherto unknown industries like animation, graphic design, visual effects, software development, programming e.t.c are now multi billion dollar industries while our government and corporate bodies continue to neglect the teeming youths interested in these fields, while at the same time patronizing the services and products of youths from these countries. The federal government, corporate bodies, minsitries of youth development at the federal and state levels need to rise from their slummber and do the right thing, Nigeria has the brains, we need the right environments. |
There are good options abroad if you can afford, a lot of asian countries have really uped the ante' in software development with incubation programs and technology parks to boost your efforts along with your degree, i am studying software engineering with university of east london program at a Malaysian university and the standard is good. NIIT and Aptech are also very good alternatives as they offer quality and are recognized worldwide. Above all it takes practice, hard work and dedication to become a good software engineer which explains why self study is also important. |
