IK, the anchorman of the Big brother allstars fame made a statement on the last day of the program, he said while introducing MI to the stage "lets introduce the one rapper that has brought revolution to the nigerian hip hop industry"- good performance no doubt. Personally i do not think MI brought the revolution to the nigerian rap industry, Ruggedman did, rugged paved the way for most of these rappers to do stuff in their mother tongue and reppin the different states they are from, any one with a counter opinion? |
I was kinda wondering; what if tuface was not signed to kennis music, would he have been this popular and hot? |

It has been reported that one of Nigeria’s most respected poet and professor of English and Literature, Dubem Okafor is dead. He died last Sunday in the United States after shooting his wife Cheryl, 37. Reports and calls from the US say Okafor, 64 apparently distraught his wife had left him a few days earlier, arranged to meet her at his sister’s Reading home, Pennsylvania, where he shot her several times and himself once in the head at 3:45 p.m. Sunday. A small-caliber handgun was found near the bodies, police said. The Berks County coroner declared her death a homicide and his death a suicide. Chukwudubem A. Okafor, 64, an associate professor of English at Kutztown University, was said to have shot his wife, Cheryl V., 37, who was an artist, several times Sunday afternoon and turned the gun on himself shortly after they arrived separately at the home of his sister, Patricia Ofilin, in the 300 block of Pear Street, investigators said. |

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting yesterday approved the immediate release of the sum of N21 billion as contained in the 2010 Appropriation Act for the purchase of two aircraft for the presidential fleet. The deal also involved the supply of three presidential jets for the Nigerian government. It will be recalled that the two of the presidential jets, including the one in which President Goodluck Jonathan travelled in to Kampala for the 15th African Union (AU) summit last month, developed mechanical fault, delaying his return to the country for one day. Addressing State House Correspondents after the Council meeting, Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, said the deal was the outcome of negotiation between Nigerian officials and two separate business concerns from France and the United States for the three aircraft. Dassault Aviation of France is to supply two new Falcon 7x aircraft, while the Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation of USA is to supply the Gulfstream G550 for use by the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF). She said the purchase price of the two Falcon jets was put at $102 million while the single Gulfstream jet was to cost another $53 million, totaling $154 million for the three aircraft. Akunyili pointed out that the committee set up for the negotiation of the acquisition of the aircraft was able to get a reduction of the sum of $2.9 million from the proposed price of the two Falcon jets and another reduction of $5.47 million from the offer price of the single Gulfstream jet. The minister further explained that the first of the two Falcon jets would be delivered by the end of the fourth quarter of this year, while the second Falcon and the Gulfstream jets would be delivered by the end of the second quarter of next year. “The sum of N21 billion has been provided in the 2010 Appropriation Act for the outright purchase of the two Falcon 7x aircraft and the one unit G550 to be delivered as agreed in the contract,” she disclosed. According to Akunyili, the FEC, presided over by President Jonathan, after consideration, “approved the purchase of two Falcon 7x aircraft and one Gulfstream G550 aircraft in favour of Messrs Dassault Aviation and Messrs Gulfstream respectively at the cost of $154.529 million.” |
Nigeria remained rooted at the 30th position of the FIFA world ranking for the month of August. And after their 2-1 loss to South Korea yesterday, the Eagles may take a further deep in the September rankings. There were no significant changes in the August rankings, which saw Egypt rated number nine in the world maintaining their number one spot in African, while 23rd placed Ghana is second in Africa. Cote Ivoire, Nigeria and Algeria made up the top five in African. World champion Spain stayed atop the FIFA rankings and the United States dropped five places in the top 20 despite not playing a match. Spain leads World Cup runner_up the Netherlands, with Brazil third and Germany fourth. The top 10 were unchanged after only two international matches involving lesser_ranked teams were played worldwide in the past month. However, the U.S. fell to No. 18 because its four wins at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July 2009 dropped in value. FIFA has amended the complex formula—which ranks teams on results over four years—to give more value to matches played in three confederations. FIFA said the changes were made based on results at the last three World Cups, and they will take effect for the next cycle leading to the 2014 finals in Brazil. The September rankings will take account of more than 50 friendlies decided on Wednesday, and qualifiers for continental championships in Europe and Africa. |
