In Clinical Psychology, the condition or state of intentionally doing something despite being fully aware of its deleterious effects is most commonly referred to as akrasia or cognitive dissonance.

1. AKRASIA (The “I know… but I still won’t do it” problem)
Akrasia is when:
Your brain knows the correct thing to do… but your body chooses the easier thing instead.
Example:
-You know you should study Pharmacology.
-You know exams are coming.
-You know failure hurts.
-But suddenly TikTok becomes “important.”

Your logical Brain says:
“Read your books.”
But your:
reward/emotional brain says:
“Let’s relax small first…”
Then “small relaxation” becomes:
~5 hours of scrolling
~2 episodes of Netflix
~random fridge opening
~staring at ceiling fan like a philosopher.

WHY AKRASIA HAPPENS:
Your brain naturally prefers:
-comfort
-quick pleasure
-low stress
-instant dopamine

because the brain is designed for:
"survival first, discipline later."
Your ancestors survived by conserving energy — not by studying 400 pages of Pharmacology.

SIGNS OF AKRASIA:
-You say things like:
-“I’ll start tomorrow”
-“Just 10 more minutes.”
-“I work better under pressure.”
-“Let me rest first.”
-“After this one video…”

Congratulations. That’s your brain negotiating against your future.

That is Akrasia.

I can recite off memory about 2000 animals and about 1500 plants. The love for this name started from SS1 (Secondary school). Now I can teach not just Biology but advanced plant biology (botany), animal biology (zoology), medical microbiology and parasitology, biochemistry, animal husbandry, aquaculture et al.
Currently a Medic.

Please I need advice.
I am an mbbs aspirants who scored 339 with 4B3 and 1 A1 currently running JUPEB in unilorin.
But I have an uncle telling me to pick Unilag.But I am scared due to the fact that Unilag mbbs cut off mark was around 86 in 2022,84 in 2023.
And I don't know what it might be in 2024 considering the fact that a lot of people scored 300+ this year.
Unilorin on the other hand has a very slow academic calendar to the extent that the 2023/2024 aspirants haven't been admitted.
I need advice because I don't want to waste 339 this year🙏🙏

Medicine is the safest career out there any where in the world. People are being made redundant in tech industries.
And as a doctor , just aim to practice medicine in Aussie, Canada and US. Your life would never remain the same . You would out earn techies or earn at their level.

It's been a long time on this thread. Just stumbled upon it again. Came as an aspirant, finished medical school , typing as a family medicine resident doc in the UK.

Greetings medics. Glory be to God. finally with all the struggles, huddles, burning mid night candles, prayers, fasting and smart/hardwork. i just got admitted officialy via direct entry to study medicine and surgery at the University of Jos. My joy knows no bound, this z really what i dreamed of after several jamb attempts. Wrote jamb three times got several admission from diff sch to study nursing science, i scrapped the admission and again UNIZIK gave me admission to study HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY which i accepted. After resuming with them and attending inumerable lectures even after paying an acceptance fees #62k, i withdrawn and stoped coming to sch. I did crazy things just bc of med and now God has finally done it for me

Leave Bucanners alone. Which one is they pay heavily. There is no ruggedity in dieing anyhow from fraternity clashes. There's ruggedity in using one's head well and applying Wisdom.
