TV/MoviesWorkers Shut Down AIT, Raypower Over 17 Months Unpaid Salaries by saaramis(op): 4:38pm On Jun 04, 2015
Scores of workers of Daar Communications Plc, operator of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM Radio, on Wednesday shut down all broadcasting activities at the Benin studio in protest over unpaid salaries.

The protesting workers were said to have blocked the main entrance to the station located along the Benin/Lagos bypass.

A detachment of anti-riot policemen were however called by the management of the station to forestall any break down of law.

It was gathered that the protesting workers put at 50 of AIT and Ray Power, were owed salaries salaries spanning between 12 and 17 months.

One of the protesting workers who did not want his name in print for personal reasons, said newly employed staff of AIT were being owed 12 months while old staff were yet to be paid salaries between 13 months and staff of the Raypower FM, the Radio arm of the broadcast outfit were owed 17 months.

“The stations generate millions of naira on a daily basis, so there is no reason why we should not be paid our salaries. They have no excuse not to pay us our money. It is share wickedness and man’s inhumanity to his fellow man. We have families to care for and children to pay their school fees. Many of our children have stopped going to school. But their own attend schools abroad.

“Look at where our station is located, in another village so far away from Benin City. You have to chatter a taxi carb for not less than N500.00 to get there if you miss the staff bus. And not even every cab driver will agree to go there because of the wrong location of the station, yet, they expect us to be there everyday, whether you have anything to do or not,” the source told P.M. NEWS on phone.

Chairman of the organization, Raymond Dokpesi (Jnr) was said to have spoken to the protesters on phone. He allegedly appealed for calm, assuring them that the management will within one week do everything possible to pay parts of the salary arrears.

He however allegedly threatened to pay-off any of the staff that decided to resign from the establishment.
SportsBlatter To Quit As Fifa President by saaramis(op): 6:07pm On Jun 02, 2015
Sepp Blatter says he will resign as president of football's governing body Fifa amid a corruption scandal.

In announcing his exit, the 79-year-old has called an extraordinary Fifa congress "as soon as possible" to elect a new president.

Blatter was re-elected last week, despite seven top Fifa officials being arrested two days before the vote as part of a US prosecution.

But he said: "My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody."

SportsEnd Of Season: Chelsea Pocket £24.7m... Checkout The Amount Others Got This Seas by saaramis(op): 11:13am On May 25, 2015
Crystal Palace and Newcastle were the big movers on the final day of the Premier League season - both jumping two places and earning millions in prize money as a result.

The Eagles, who beat Swansea City 1-0 thanks to a Marouane Chamakh goal, secured a top-half finish and pocketed an extra £2.5million in the process.

Newcastle earned the same jump in cash after securing their Premier League survival, while Chelsea took home £24.7m for clinching the title.

Chelsea were presented with the Premier League trophy after finishing the season with a win

Rock-bottom Queens Park Rangers will be given £1.2m. Second-placed Manchester City are to be handed £1.2m less than their eventual winners.

Hull's season ended in painful frustration as they were relegated after being held to a goalless draw by Manchester United.

Steve Bruce's side had several chances but could not make the breakthrough against a United side who will have Marouane Fellaini suspended for the first three matches of next season after the Belgium midfielder was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Paul McShane.

Victory would have been in vain anyway for the Tigers as relegation rivals Newcastle beat West Ham 2-0.

There were some nervy moments for the Magpies before Moussa Sissoko's far-post header gave them the lead and Jonas Gutierrez made it 2-0 late on.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers' troubled season ended in disaster with a 6-1 hiding at Stoke.

Rodgers left Raheem Sterling on the bench after another week of negative headlines - and saw his side slump to 5-0 down by half-time in Steven Gerrard's last game for the Reds.

Two goals from Mame Biram Diouf started the rout before Jon Walters, Charlie Adam and a stunning strike from Steven Nzonzi left Liverpool shell-shocked.

Gerrard was given a standing ovation by the Stoke fans after making it 5-1 but Anfield old boy Peter Crouch came off the bench to intensify the agony with a header.

Arsenal were also rampant at home to West Brom, where Theo Walcott grabbed a first-half hat-trick to put himself firmly in the frame for the FA Cup final. Jack Wilshere also did his Wembley chances no harm with an excellent performance and a superb strike as the Gunners raced into a 4-0 lead by the break.

Gareth McAuley's header regained some respect for the Baggies but Aaron Ramsey hit the woodwork twice as the match ended 4-1.

Champions Chelsea came back from a goal down at home to Sunderland, with substitute Diego Costa levelling from the spot after Steven Fletcher had put the visitors 1-0 up.

Costa had replaced Didier Drogba, who was carried shoulder-high from the pitch by his team-mates after his final performance in a Chelsea shirt. Loic Remy then scored twice to make it 3-1 to ensure a positive end to the title-winning campaign.

There were some farewell flourishes elsewhere in the Premier League too - Frank Lampard found the net in his last match for Manchester City as the runners-up saw off Southampton 2-0, with the league's top scorer Sergio Aguero heading the second.

Danny Ings scored at Aston Villa in what is likely to be his last game for Burnley as the striker is out of contract in the summer.

The relegated Clarets ended their season with a flourish, winning 1-0, while Villa looked to be focused on next week's FA Cup final.

Leicester's astonishing run of form continued right to the end of the season as the Foxes made mincemeat of relegated QPR winning 5-1. Jamie Vardy celebrated his England call-up with a goal before Marc Albrighton struck to make it 2-0.

Leonardo Ulloa grabbed a third after the break and Argentina international Esteban Cambiasso fired in for 4-0. Charlie Austin, also called up for the England squad this week, headed a consolation for his 18th of the season but Andrej Kramaric made if five for Nigel Pearson's side.

Another England striker Harry Kane made it 21 league goals for the season as Tottenham took the lead at Everton and held on for a 1-0 win and fifth place in the table.

CelebritiesKim Kardashian And Kanye West Celebrate Their First Wedding Anniversary by saaramis(op): 8:41pm On May 24, 2015
It has been 12 months since Fort Belvedere in Florence, Italy, was on lockdown for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's star-studded wedding.

On 24 May,  2014, the reality star looked every inch the fairytale bride in her lace fishtail Givenchy gown as she strutted down the aisle to greet her rapper beau, 37, in front of a gigantic wall of white flowers.

The day was especially poignant for the American hit maker as he has confessed that he dreamed of making 34-year-old Kim his wife from the moment they met in 2004.

Kanye struggled to hide his lust for socialite Kim for eight years - he referenced her in his lyrics, dated women who looked similar to her and grew close to her family, the Kardashian-Jenner clan.

He was unashamedly public about his affections, confessing to US Vogue in April 2014: 'Basically, you know, she was always my favourite girl.

'There was no girl in the world that could pull me away from her.'

But capturing Kim's heart was quite a challenge for Kanye - a feat that lasted nearly a decade.

When the couple first met, she was married to her first husband, songwriter Damon Thomas so while a friendship blossomed, romance was very much off the cards.

Reminiscing about their first encounter, Kim recently told Access Hollywood: 'When I first met [Kanye], we worked on a project together and there was definitely a spark, but we were in other relationships and we kept our distance.'

True love? Rapper Kanye West tried to win his now-wife Kim Kardashian's heart for nearly a decade

The A-list pair welcomed daughter North 'Nori' West in June 2013, just a year after ousting their relationship
In his critically-acclaimed album The College Dropout, released that year, Kanye is believed to allude to Kim in a number of the tracks and reference her in his music videos by using curvaceous models.

In September 2007 the pals ran into each other at the store opening of fashion brand Intermix in Beverly Hills.

Kanye was seeing designer Alexis Phifer at the time while Kim was loved up with American football player Reggie Bush.

But in the aftermath of the death of his mother Donda West in 2007, Kanye broke up with Alexis in 2008, began his first forays into fashion design and started dating model Amber Rose.

With her voluptuous bottom, killer pout and chiselled cheekbones, Amber's look was similar to Kim's, along with her sphinx-like expression when posing for photographers.

Kim and Kanye bumped into each other again at the Y-3 show in New York City in February 2009.

The pair were both given prime front row seating but while Kim cuddled up to Reggie, Kanye looked uncomfortable on his own next to model Milla Jovovich who was sandwiched between them.

Kim parted ways with Reggie in 2010 and Kanye cooled things off with Amber.

Amber slammed Kim calling her a 'homewrecker' and claimed that her then-boyfriend Kanye had been seeing the TV star behind her back.

'Kim is one of the main reasons why me and Kanye are not together. She's a homewrecker,' Amber told Star magazine.

'They were both cheating. They were both cheating on me and Reggie with each other.'

As the Amber versus Kim feud played out in the press, Kanye set his sights on capturing Kim's heart.

The pair looked happy during a talk at her NYC DASH store on October 4 and then her 30th birthday party aboard a yacht in the Manhattan harbour on October 21.

However, Kim toyed with Kanye's emotions by hooking up with another football player, Mike Austin.

In December 2010 when the musician was on hand to help Kim with her music video Jam (Turn It Up), mum Kris snapped at him for checking out her daughter's famous derriere by bluntly saying, 'Don't be looking at her a**'.

The songwriter snapped back: 'I've never seen it actually.'

Kanye popped the question to Kim with a giant diamond on her 33rd birthday in October 2013
The Atlanta, Georgia-native had to then watch the Kardashian Kollection designer then briefly date Halle Berry's ex Gabriel Aubry.

She dumped him for basketball player Kris Humphries.

It seemed that Kim may be off the market for good when she wed Kris in a lavish ceremony in August 2011.

That marriage famously crumbled on Halloween - just 72 days after they'd made their vows in a huge wedding and TV special.

Following the breakdown of her marriage, Kim decided to get in touch with Kanye once and for all.

Speaking on Access Hollywood, she recently said: 'I think it was six months after I was newly single in like 2012, I was like why not? Like, what am I waiting for?

'I called [Kanye] because I'm sure it was really hurtful that I got married and, even though it's not like we communicated all the time, I knew what he was thinking.'

Despite years of waiting for Kim to be a free agent again, he appeared overjoyed to hear from her.

SportsRe: Real Madrid 9-1 Granada by saaramis(m): 1:02pm On Apr 05, 2015
Real Madrid destroyed Granada 9-1 in La Liga’s early kick off on Sunday, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting five for the first time in his career.

James Rodriguez, who had been missing since February 4 with a broken metatarsal, returned in place of the suspended Isco.

The omens looked good for Los Blancos, who had won all of their seven games with a midfield of James, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in 2014-15.

Elsewhere, Alvaro Arbeloa and Raphael Varane both entered the fray as Dani Carvajal and Pepe were deemed unfit beforehand.

Surprisingly, it was the visitors who began most brightly, but a mix of poor decision-making in advanced areas and unfortunate finishing - Robert Ibanez clipping the post from Iker Casillas’s misjudgement – meant they risked awaking the dragon.

And so they did. Midway through the first half, Gareth Bale continued his recent resurgence, leaving Diego Mainz on his back, before rounding Oier Aranzabal and coolly toepoking the ball into an empty net.

Just five minutes later, Ronaldo grabbed the first of his quick-fire treble with an accomplished finish after James played him in with a defence-splitting flick in the box.

The Portuguese then conjured up two more strikes, slamming home a rebound and sending a missile past Oier, although the former Barcelona goalkeeper should have got his hands to the ball.

However, Granada did end the half somewhat positively as Youssef El Arabi smashed the crossbar from 25 yards out with a piledriver, which dropped onto the line but didn’t bounce over.

The second half began with a bang as Granada tested Casillas with two snapshots on target, but Benzema quickly turned their optimism into the stuff of nightmares when he beautifully chested down a corner and volleyed it home.

Moments later, Ronaldo upped his tally to four for the afternoon thanks to some unselfish play from Bale, who delivered a tantalising ball across the face of goal for the No 7 to head into an empty net.

Madrid were well and truly in full flow and they would make it 7-0 before the hour mark, Benzema taking a touch before blasting a low shot past Oier, but Ibanez offered some brief respite 20 minutes later as he pulled one back for Granada.

Nonetheless, it was to be a grandstand finale for the hosts, who looked like the team who won 24 straight matches earlier in the season, starting with Diego Mainz’s own goal from Bale’s cross.

Ronaldo fluffed numerous chances throughout the second half, but he nonetheless proceeded to find his fifth, capitalising on non-existent marking to send in a header, as Madrid served up an Easter surprise.

Real Madrid 9-1 Granada
