Politics / Bayelsa PDP Exonerates Allison-madueke Over Donation Of N70m by SafecozzyTeam: 6:35am On Feb 14, 2015
The State Executive Committee (SEC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has exonerated the Minister of Petroleum Resource, Dr. Dizeani Allison-Madueke of any wrong doing in the donation of funds to the party for the hosting of the last presidential campaign rally of the party in the State.

According to the party, though the controversy that rocked the N70million campaign donation was unfortunate and has led to the suspension of the State Chairman, Col. Sam Inokoba (rtd), the N70 million was donated by members of the Party at the State and Federal levels including Dr. Dizeani Allisson-Madueke.

The Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Barr. Osom Mackbere, told newsmen yesterday in Yenagoa that the claim that the donated N70million Presidential campaign fund belonged to the Minister of Petroleum Resources is wrong, “the money was donated by stakeholders of the party for the successful hosting of the Presidential campaign rally in the state.”

“The dragging of the name of the Minister of Petroleum Resource is the doing of the suspended Chairman of the Party. Though we have decided not to engage in banter with our suspended Chairman, the party wants to clear the name of the Minister of Petroleum from the controversial money. The mention of Dr. Dizeani Allison-Madueke name is deliberate act of a drowning man.”

Reacting to his suspension, the embattled PDP Chairman, Col. Sam Inokoba (rtd) said the action of the State Executive Committee members is illegal and unconstitutional.

Col. Sam Inokoba (rtd), in a statement yesterday in Yenagoa and handed to newsmen by his Media aide, Mr. Nelson Agadi, stated that the charges of alleged diversion of N40million was a lie and a deliberate action by some desperate politicians in the state, ”the fund was distributed as directed by the donors and there is no way I would have directed the said amount to my private purse.”

Crime / Armed Gunmen Kill 2 Policemen, Injure 5 In Enugu, Abuja & Lagos State, Nigeria by SafecozzyTeam: 6:27am On Feb 14, 2015
Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have killed two policemen in Enugu while one person was killed and two others injured in Lagos just as three policemen were injured in a gun battle with gunmen in Abuja.

Our Correspondent gathered that the Enugu incident occurred along the popular Nza Street, Independence Layout, Enugu on Thursday night.

Gunmen also injured three policemen during an exchange of fire with unidentified gunmen in the early hours of yesterday at the Arab junction along the Suleja-Kubwa Expressway, Abuja.

LEADERSHIP Weekend learnt that the armed men ran into the police operatives who were on patrol operations and opened fire on them. The operatives were said to have repelled the attack forcing the armed men, suspected to be robbers to beat a retreat and made their escape.

Also in Lagos, there was a pandemonium in Amuwo-Odofin local government area on Thursday when a suspected armed robber shot a man dead and wounded two policemen.

Investigation revealed that the robber was a passenger on a motorcycle and ordered the rider to stop at Apple Junction.

A police sergeant attached to FESTAC police station who spoke on the condition of anonymity said immediately the hoodlum got off from the motorcycle, he shot the rider at close range and zoomed off with the motorcycle.

The sergeant said the divisional police officer of FESTAC police station, Mr Ifeanyi Owo was alerted and he ordered anti-robbery policemen to give the fleeing hoodlum a pursuit.

Owo also led a team of policemen to routes in a bid to trail the fleeing bandit.

As the bandit noticed that police patrol vehicle was trailing him, he began to fire sporadically, wounding two cops.

But an eye witness who craved anonymity during the Enugu incident disclosed that the policemen were at a checkpoint when they were attacked by the gunmen, who were in a queue of vehicles that were flagged down for inspection by the security operatives.

Several vehicles were queued up behind the vehicle conveying the gunmen.

The state police public relations officer, Ebere Amarizu who confirmed the incident disclosed that the command has commenced full scale investigation into the incident.

Amarizu, vowed that the culprits would be apprehended and brought to book, adding that the police is already on the trail of perpetrators of the unholy act.

Health / Sierra Leone Government Locks Down 700 Homes After Ebola Death by SafecozzyTeam: 7:52pm On Feb 13, 2015
Sierra Leone placed hundreds of homes in the capital under Ebola quarantine on Friday, in a huge blow to its recovery less than a month after lifting travel restrictions.
“Some 700 homes have been quarantined for 21 days in the tourism and fishing community of Aberdeen in the west of the capital Freetown, after the death of a fisherman who was later diagnosed Ebola positive,” said Obi Sesay of the government’s National Ebola Response Centre.
The west African nation of six million had seen almost 11,000 cases and 3,363 deaths during the epidemic which has raged in west Africa for more than a year.
This new struggle with the disease comes less than a month after President Ernest Bai Koroma pointed to a “steady downward trend” in new cases and lifted country-wide quarantines and travel bans.
When ending the measures, which impacted half the population, on January 23 the president said “victory is in sight”.
But optimism that the worst was over gave way to renewed concern on Wednesday as the World Health Organization (WHO) reported the number of new confirmed cases rising across Sierra Leone and Guinea for the second week running.
Transmission remains “widespread” in Sierra Leone, which reported 76 new confirmed cases in the week to February 8, according to the WHO.
“Twenty or more confirmed cases have been discovered in the last few days and we have opened a control centre to deal with the crisis,” Sesay told reporters.
“We are on top of the situation and people should not panic.”

Politics / As Seen On The Fence Of Bola Tinubu's Lagos Home This Morning by SafecozzyTeam: 5:33pm On Feb 13, 2015
Lol. These politicians sef! Looks like the APC is still insisting that FG is sending military men to patrol the Lagos home of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. This pic was sent to me - allegedly put their by Tinubu's supporters. Below is the accompanying message...

"This is the message we found on the fence of the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu's house this morning. The two banners hung in the fence of the main house and the next building to his house. The message was loud and clear to the military who have been patrolling Tinubu's house and the stretch of Bourdillon Road since last Sunday. The message on the banners meant for the military- "This is not Sambisa Forest. Wrong Posting."Sambisa Forest is the forest under the control of Boko Haram for years and is yet to be penetrated by the Nigerian military. It is suspected that APC stalwarts and Tinubu supporters must have put up the message over night.

Last night about 11pm, a lorry load of soldiers drove back and forth on Bourdillon Road and round the Falomo Roundabout for about an hour before finally driving off

Crime / 3 Arraigned For Attempting To Murder Popular Lagos Pastor’s Wife by SafecozzyTeam: 6:22am On Feb 13, 2015
The Lagos State Police Command yesterday arraigned three men – a 24-year-old dog-handler Abdulkareem Mohammed, a 36-year-old herbalist Akeem Makinde-Ewuosi and a 29-year-old guard Paul Eke – before a Lagos Magistrate Court in Tinubu for allegedly attempting to murder Ibidunni Ighodalo, the wife of Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House Church.

The three were arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder.

According to the prosecutor, Chidi Okoye, the three men, who all reside on Lagos Island, attempted to murder the victim with the same poisonous substance which they used to poison Simba, the pastor’s four-month-old dog sometime between January 28 and February 10, 2015, at about 10pm at 4b Ogun Street, Osborne Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

He also alleged that the first defendant, who allegedly had sexual fantasies towards Mrs Ighodalo, planned to kill her husband after killing the dog, so that the affection she has for her husband and the dog will be transferred to him.

The defendants were later apprehended after Mrs. Ighodalo said she “prayed and the Holy Spirit revealed” to her that something was wrong.

When the defendants were confronted with the allegation, they confessed to have poisoned the dog and that they were also planning to getting rid of her.

The prosecutor also told the court that the first defendant claimed that he got a black soap and powder from the herbalist who asked him to buy a sponge, bath with it and throw it into the river.

According to Okoye, the native doctor had assured Mohammed that after the bath he would be able to demand for N10m and any other thing he wanted from Mrs Ighodalo and she would give them to him.

The offences, Okoye said, are contrary to Section 409 and punishable under Sections 228 (1) (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

Crime / At Least 35 Killed In Borno Market Explosion. by SafecozzyTeam: 6:05am On Feb 13, 2015
Thirty-five persons were killed, yesterday, and several others injured during attacks by Boko Haram terrorists on three Borno communities. The three communities were Biu, the largest Borno town in the southern part of the state, Alkideow and Mbuta.

In Biu, a deadly explosion from a bomb that went off in a crowded market, reportedly killed 15 people with 21 others injured, according to witnesses.

Witnesses said the injured persons and corpses were being evacuated. Biu is the largest Borno town in the southern part of the state, located 187 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the state capital.

A resident of the town, Mwajim Ali Gana said: “A suicide bomber today (yesterday) launched an attack on innocent marketers on Biu plateau”.

Another eye witness said: “I was buying some soup ingredients at the vegetable section of the market around 3:15pm and suddenly there was a heavy sound and the market was covered with dust as the entire place was thrown into confusion. Human parts littered the scene as survivors scrambled for safety”.

A member of the Biu Youth volunteer vigilante group, popularly called “Civilian JTF” involved in the rescue of the victims told Vanguard on phone that a suspected member of the Boko Haram sect entered the vegetable section of the Market and detonated the Improvised Explosive Device (IED), killing several people at the market.

He said so far 15 bodies have been recovered while several other people with various degrees of injuries are currently receiving medical attention at the Biu General Hospital.

A medical doctor at the Biu hospital, who pleaded anonymity, said that seven bodies were brought from the scene, while eight persons died shortly after.

He also said 21 others with severe injuries were being prepared for referral to other major hospitals within and outside the state.

Yesterday’s suicide bomb attack was the first ever suicide mission in Biu town since the commencement of the Boko Haram insurgency.

A security source in Biu said a female suicide bomber detonated an Improved Explosive Device (IED) in Biu Main market killing three persons including the suicide bomber while 10 others were injured.

He said the female suicide bomber came to the market and detonated the IED which was attached to her body at about 3:30 pm, adding that those injured were rushed to Biu General Hospital for treatment’.

“The female suicide bomber sneaked into the market through the Third Gate of the Main market, when people were busy carrying out their business activities”, he added.

Another 20 persons killed in Mafa LG

In another development, more than two dozen suspected members of Boko Haram gunmen in a convoy of motorcycles attacked Mbuta village in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State, killed nine people and torched of several houses and shops at about 7.25am, yesterday.

Mbuta village is near Khaddamari; the council headquarters of Jere, and 25 kilometres north-east of Maiduguri, the state capital.

According to the village head, Mallam Zakari, in a telephone conversation yesterday in Maiduguri; “the insurgents riding motorcycles attacked Alkideow village near our village, Mbuta as early as 4.30am but failed in taking away their cows, after killing nine people, before proceeding to Mbuta village by 7.20am and torched several houses and shops. When the gunmen burst into my village, they started shooting sporadically at any person in sight. Our houses and shops were not spared, as they killed 11 of my people here, including two old women, who were burnt to death in their huts, before the early morning attack on us,” said Zakari yesterday.
