It was NOT an Igbo coup. (Igbo coup would mean that the Igbo elite reached a consensus of sorts to take over the country. We know that was not what happened. It was just some misguided army men doing things).

However, "Igbo coup" was not invented out of thin air by Hundeyin's new enemies, the West and its media, as Hundeyin would have us believe. The preponderance of Igbo officers among the coupists and the fact there were no coup activities in the East gave rise to that belief among Nigerians.
