2023 Elections: Fuel Scarcity Might Hinder Our Plans – INEC Claims!!!

The election is around the corner and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has this to say.

“The Commission shares your concern about the fuel situation in the country and its impact on transportation on election day. The truth is that our arrangements may be negatively affected by the non-availability of products. For this reason, the Commission will this afternoon meet with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to look into ways to ameliorate the situation”.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Kano State by miscreants.

I’m a statement by its national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party said “This organized attack on the person of the President is outrightly treasonable and a sacrilegious assault on our national sovereignty which must be condemned by all.”

“Our Party is alarmed that this attack is part of APC Presidential Candidate’s alleged plot to undermine the Presidency, cause confusion, trigger violence in the country, disrupt the conduct of the 2023 general elections and derail our democracy; having realized that he cannot win in a peaceful, free and fair electoral process.” The PDP claimed.

The PDP invited Nigerians to note how Governor Abdullahi Ganduje attempted to abridge President Buhari’s movement and even tried to stop him from visiting Kano State.

“More disquieting is the fact that the APC Presidential Campaign sought to humiliate and harm President Buhari while performing his official duties in Kano.” It stressed.

The death toll in the bomb explosion that occurred on Tuesday night in Rukubi, a border area between Nasarawa and Benue States, has risen to 56.

However, the cause of the blast is currently unknown. A resident of Rukubi, Mallam Haruna Bawa, who was at the scene of the explosion, reported that he counted more than 54 lifeless bodies. And this included four of his brothers who were affected.

Politianment Reported that the Nasarawa State governor Abdullahi Sule has lost his eldest son, Hassan Abdullahi Sule. Hassan died in the late hours of Thursday, January 26, 2023, after a brief illness.

According to a statement released by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Ibrahim Addra, Hassan, 36, passed away on Thursday night after a brief illness.

He revealed that Hassan will be laid to rest on Friday morning in Gudi, Akwanga, the state capital and headquarters of Akwanga Local Government Area.

The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that a group of people cannot ask the government to disqualify Senator Bola Tinubu from running in the 2023 presidential election.

Justice Binta Nyako said that the plaintiff, the Incorporated Trustees of Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International, doesn't have the legal right to bring the case.

The locus of the applicant's authority is important because anything the applicant does without legal authority will not be valid.

Justice Nyako decided that the plaintiff, who was not a member of a political party and wasn't involved in the election process, didn't have a right to file the lawsuit.

The judge said that the plaintiff is using the court system in a way that is not fair. The plaintiff has filed multiple lawsuits asking for the same thing, which is not fair to other people who may have to deal with the plaintiff's lawsuit.

Politainment News reports that the Nasarawa State Police Command said that he has commenced an investigation into the death of 27 pastoralists, in the Doma Local Government Area of Nassarawa State.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, in a chat with newsmen on Thursday, said the preliminary investigation confirmed that “the pastoralists had on Tuesday, gone to Benue to pay fines for the release of cattle impounded by the Benue Livestock Guards implementing the State’s Anti-Open Grazing and Ranching Law.

On Tuesday night, in the village of Kwatiri, located on the border between Benue and Nasarawa, a strange object resembling a drone or aircraft hovered above and dropped shells on individuals who were in the process of loading cows into vehicles.

Reports came in by Nansel, that the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Mohammed-Baba, visited the scene of the incident and attended the burial of the deceased alongside the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, and some traditional rulers.

Nigerian actress Toyin Abraham has been named the highest-earning female actor of 2022 by FilmOne Entertainment. For drug trafficking, Ifeanyi Okorie, a bus driver, and Israel Nwachukwu, his motor boy, were each given 10 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday.

Okorie, 39, and Nwachukwu, 23, were found guilty by Justice Akintayo Aluko after pleading guilty to conspiracy and illegal transportation of 564.55 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, or marijuana.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) pursued criminal charges against the pair.

Prosecution counsel N. J. Mamza told the court that the men were arrested on December 11, 2022, at the 2nd Toll Gate, Opposite V.G.C. Estate, Lekki, Lagos, while illegally transporting the prohibited leaves.

NAHCO Strike: International flights at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) have been grounded as employees of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) go on strike to demand a salary increase.

The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) offers a range of services, including ground handling of cargo and ramp operations, passenger services, and other support, to several international airlines such as Air France/KLM, Qatar, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Turkish Air.

Gunmen Kidnap Corps Member and at least six individuals at Ikem community in the Isi-Uzo local government area of Enugu state on January 21.

The local government had recently been attacked by suspected Fulani militia at Eha-Amufu.

CBN Warns Commercial Bank: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned of the consequences for commercial banks storing old banknotes in their ATMs (cash dispensers), which are set to cease to be legal tender from 31 January.

On Thursday, in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, Dr. Rekiyat Yusuf, deputy director general of currency operations, said while raising market awareness of the redesigned naira notes, ATMs where old notes were still found were closed. Said it would impose appropriate sanctions on banks operating.

Two Village Chiefs were Arrested Over a terror attack In Nigeria today at Edo State. The Edo State Government has confirmed the arrest of two village chiefs in connection with the 7 January terror attack on a train station in the state.

The government said the terrorists had kidnapped 20 people who were waiting to board a train at the Igueben train station.

Chris Nehikhare, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation in the state, said this when he briefed reporters shortly after the state Executive Council meeting in Benin on Wednesday.

Mr. Nehikhare said seven other suspects had also been arrested in connection with the incident, saying that the two remaining passengers in captivity had also been rescued by security agents.
