Nice one Mr PDP GOVERNOR |
President Muhammadu Buhari will soon commission the ultra-modern Karu International Market in Nasarawa State when it is completed. The state governor, Tanko Al-Makura, disclosed this to State House correspondents after meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to him the dwindling allocations from the federal coffers underscored the imperative of putting to use the market which has been the under construction for years. The governor pointed out that the proximity of the 3,000-shop market to the federal capital territory made it commercially viable. He said focus is also being shifted to agriculture and other viable commercial ventures as Nasarawa boasts of tremendous resources for alternative sources of revenue. The governor also disclosed that Benue and Nasarawa State have made move to end the incessant clashes of farmers and cattle rearers in their borders. He said, “I am here (in the Presidential Villa) to update the President on matters concerning Nasarawa State, including the efforts to resolve frequent farmers/herders clashes involving it and neighbouring Benue State. We made some headways on Thursday when Benue State governor led a delegation to meet with me in Nasarawa to discuss measures towards stemming the frequent conflicts,” Al-Makura.Al-Makura disclosed that a decision had been reached to set up a joint committee that will proffer solutions to the crisis. He confirmed that a single case of Lassa Fever had been confirmed in the state with the patient properly quarantined, however, the state medical team was on top of the situation. http://leadership.ng/news/494187/pmb-commission-nasarawa-modern-market

Proof has emerged that the Minister of Transportation and Aviation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi lied concerning the Nigerian Maritime University. The minister while trying to justify the Federal Government's decision to scrap the Nigerian Maritime University told the senate Committee on Marine Transport that there was no work on the Permanent site of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta state and insisted that what was on ground was “just the feasibility study”.Amaechi said; “Whoever that is holding on to the money should better return it. The Chinese company contracted, confirmed that only the feasibility study was in place.”According to photographic evidence gathered by our correspondent who visited the site of the Maritime University, contractors were seen on working on site with heavy duty equipment, while buildings were captured at various phases of construction contrary to Mr. Amaechi’s claims. According to our correspondent, the temporary site of the Maritime University in Kurutie, Warri South-West of Delta state was equipped with necessary structures and facilities and was set to admit students into the 2016 Academic year pending the completion of structures at the permanent site. A resident of the community who spoke to our correspondent said that there was no truth to claims by Mr. Amaechi as work was ongoing, he said that the contractors were being arrested while working on the site. Other residents groaned that the Government was sending a wrong signal to the community as that is what they got from having a son of the Niger Delta as President. They remarked that in spite of the difficult terrain of the area where it is difficult to get sand, the contractors remained on site and dismissed the Ministers comment as uncharitable and sending a wrong signal. The ground breaking ceremony was performed by former President GOODLUCK Jonathan on the 10th of May, 2014 while the Federal Executive Council approved the decision for the school to take off in 2015. International Monetary Fund (IMF), says it has opened selection process for its top job and will begin accepting nominations on Thursday. IMF Executive Board said in a statement in Washington on Thursday that it had adopted an open, merit-based, and transparent process for the selection of the managing director. The statement, signed by IMF executive board member, Aleksei Mozhin, said the method of selection was similar to the one used in the previous round.“Individuals may be nominated by a Fund governor or executive director. Like we did in 2011, we aim to reach a decision by consensus”, Mozhin said. But IMF’s Managing Director, Christine Lagarde says she is open to another term. Lagarde’s initial five-year term as managing director expires on July 5 and Mozhin said he expects the board to complete its selection process by early March. Lagarde, a former French finance minister, was elected in 2011 after competing against Mexican Central Bank governor Augustin Carstens. Lagarde replaced Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who was forced to resign the top IMF job amid a sexual assault scandal. Lagarde, who is well regarded among international leaders, said in October she was “prepared to serve” another term but that was up to the Fund’s members to decide. So far, no challengers have emerged for the top IMF job. One potential complication is that a French court in December ordered Lagarde to face trial for negligence when she served as France’s finance minister. Lagarde was alleged to have played a role in a payout of some 400 million euros ($434 million) to businessman Bernard Tapie under questionable circumstances. Lagarde has vowed to appeal the trial order and has said she acted in the best interests of the French state and in full compliance with the law. The IMF board has reaffirmed its confidence in Lagarde’s ability to effectively carry out her duties. During her tenure as head of the Fund, a sovereign debt crisis in Europe eased, loan programmes to debt-laden Greece have been extended, and the Chinese yuan was added to the Fund’s benchmark currency basket. The fund, last year, also won approval by the US Congress of a landmark reform programme that shifted more voting power to China and other key emerging markets. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/01/21/imf-to-recruit-managing-director/
