PoliticsN111.65 Billion -edo 2016 Budget And The Unthinkable: by saint047(op): 2:44pm On Jan 15, 2016
Oshiomhole slashed budgetary allocation to the office of the deputy governor from over N250 million to mere N35 million, where as,the same governor budget N2.55 billion for fueling governor's convoy. And a whopping sum of N500 million as monthly security vote, this is after the N5 billion budgeted for security in a state where kidnapping, robbery and cultism are on the increase with no adequate measure to curb them.
Water provision,N100 million and ICT N400 million respectively.
How insensitive for a governor to budget a meagre sum of N100 million to provide water for population of people close to 4million and budget billion of Naira for executive tea and recharge cards?Agriculture N300 million.
When a government budget a mere N300 million on Agriculture and budget N1.7 billion to feed his government, then something is very wrong.
Edo is about 4million population, and predominantly insular farmers, then a governor budgeting just N300 million for a fiscal year on Agriculture is nothing but sheer wickedness.2015 budget had N150 million to maintain the Benin Water Fountain and another N100 million voted in this year budget, yet the water fountain has been non-functional.
What exactly do the governor expect the deputy governor's office to do with N35 million as against the previous N250 million? Personal dispute should not be transferred to the innocent masses, the governor should not in anyway use his power to short-change the deputy's office to settle political differences while the good people of Edo suffers the brunt.
In a country where oil serves as major revenue generation and the price of oil has continue to fall,a deep thinking leader should budget more on Agriculture.
Unreasonably, our governor had just budgeted a mere N300 to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Governor Oshiomhole spends between N3.5 - 4 million on a chartered flight weekly while only N100 is budgeted to provide water for population of about 4million people.
Would N100 million be enough to provide bore holes in one local govt in the state? Is all looting and looting, and not to be abated anytime soon.
Governor Oshiomhole has flunked and no sign of redemption.
Painfully,I don't see anything different in the very near future unless drastic measures are taken to let those who governs know how woefully they have failed.
This is not about governor Oshiomhole alone or APCor PDP but about the entire government system.
Oshiomhole's successor whether APC or PDP will act swiftly in same manner since the loopeholes and inadequacies in our repugnant system has not been corrected.God bless Edo.

Mr.Charles Amadin.

PoliticsOkorocha Appoints Lawyer As Health Commissioner by saint047(op): 9:49pm On Jan 14, 2016
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has sworn-in thirteen commissioners with a lawyer, Mrs. Ngozi Njoku emerging as the commissioner for Health.
The governor also swore in 27 caretaker chairmen of the 27 local government areas of the state as well as an Economic Adviser. Mrs. Njoku, a former commissioner for women affairs in the state, is the current director-general of Imo Foundation. She would also oversee the ministry of women affairs which had been merged with that of health. Information available to 247ureports.com has it that the governor decided to merge the ministry of health with that of women affairs after concessioning the hospitals and community health centres owned by the state government.
Governor Okorocha, who presided at the swearing in ceremony of the new commissioners, said that the assigning of portfolios was done to put square pegs in square holes, describing that the new commissioners as the bridge between the old and the new generation politicians in the state he commended the immediate-past commissioners for sustaining the noble ideals of the Rescue Mission Government in the state, explaining that they were dropped because of other considerations that had nothing to do with failure, and urged the new commissioners to work hard to justify their appointments.
The governor, also told them to take credit for the things they have done, and not for what others had done, adding that they should add more feathers to the flying wings of the state.
His words “Imo state would be celebrating her 40thanniversary in a month time. And there is a popular saying that a fool at 40 is a fool forever, but to the glory of God, Imo state is not foolish at 40 but wise at 40 because of the giant strides of the Rescue Mission Government.
Imo security is at its best 4 years and 8 months down the line. Imo was known as a kidnapping haven but now, Imo is considered as one of the safest states in the country, courtesy of the Rescue Mission Government.”He continued, “All appointees are meant to tighten their seatbelts with a view to making Imo better. All hands must be on deck to sustain the gains made in education, security, infrastructure and other facets of the administration too numerous to mention.
The appointees should improve on the gains so far recorded by the Rescue Mission Government”.“I want also to call for attitudinal change amongst Imolites, especially now that Imo is approaching 40. And I want to also ask all including Imo workers to queue into the change mantra of the state government by making sacrifices that will help the generation of Imo unborn.”He continued, “My quest to make Imo better is not for personal aggrandizement or riches but honest desire to change the landscape of the state. As a result there is urgent need for Imo people to cooperate with me in moving the artisans to a place, relocating the markets that are not well positioned to make the state attractive to tourists and investors.
”The commissioners sworn-in with their portfolios were Chief Law Eburuo (Lands, Survey, Housing and Urban Planning), Barr. Ngozi Njoku, (Health, Women Affairs& Social Development), Chief (Mrs.) Getrude Oduka (Education, Science and Environment), Barr. M.O. Nlemadim (Attorney-General & commissioner for Justice), Hon. Chidi Ibeh (Information, Youths & Sports), Hon. Udo Agoha (Agric& Natural Resources), Dr. Vitalis Ajumber (International Resources & Pension Matters).Others are; Barr. Obinna Mbata (Finance), Barr. Emma Ibediro (Local govrnemnt & Rural Development), Barr. Ifeanyi Araraume Jnr., (commerce, Land and tourism), Chief Innocent Eke (Community government, culture & Traditional Affairs), Hon. Rodney Ajaelu, (Public Safety & Public Utilities), Chief (Mrs.) Josephine Udoji, (Works & Transport).Chief Ikechukwu Njoku was also sworn-in as the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor. It would be recalled that Okorocha has runthe local government system in the state with caretaker chairmen in the last five years with no intention to conduct local government elections.

PoliticsPolice Consider Psychiatric Screening Of Recruits, Officers by saint047(op): 9:23pm On Jan 12, 2016
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, has said the Nigeria Police Force is considering conducting psychiatric test on recruits and serving officers.
Arase stated this at the Nigeria Police Force Health Policy Revalidation meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said that the initiative became necessary following incidents of indiscriminate use of firearms by personnel of the force.
The IGP said that inadequate manpower had exposed officers to working for longer hours. He said that the force was also considering establishing a Trauma Centre for its officers because of the nature of their job.“The Police should be concerned about the mental health of officers, “ he said.
It would be recalled that Arase had advised Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to always determine the mental awareness of officers before assigning firearms to them to curtail incidents of ‘accidental discharge`.He said that inadequate health worker, poor funding, infrastructure deficit and management deficiencies had been some of the challenges inhibiting the force’s medical unit. Arase noted that in order to tackle these challenges, it was expedient to develop a health policy for the force.“The development of any policy document entails an inclusive approach with relevant stakeholders.“You all have been invited here today to review the Draft Health Policy for the Nigeria Police Force,“he said. On his part, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, promised the ministry’s assistance in the implementation of the policy.“We will assist in the implementation, we will ensure it happens,“Adewole said He commended the police management for developing a health policy for its officers and their families. In a remark, Dr Abdulmumini Ibrahim, Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), said that the policy was long overdue. He said that the council would help the police to build the capacity to handle the facility.
The Nigeria Police Medical Service was established in 1975 with the primary mandate of providing health care services to serving, retired, family members of the force and detainees.

PoliticsEdo Begins Recruitment Of 5,000 Teachers by saint047(op): 2:02pm On Jan 08, 2016
The Edo State government has commenced the process of recruiting 5,000 teachers for its public primary and secondary schools, the statecommissioner for eeducation, Gideon Obakhan, has said. Mr. Obakhan stated this on Thursday, saying 50 science and special teachershad already been recruited for those with special needs. According to him, induction and orientation programmes have been organised for the teachers.“They have concluded this and they are being posted out to different schools in the state.“We are also going to start the process of the employment of 3,000 teachers within a short while. We have carried out an analysis to that effect.“Our long term plan is to have about 5,000 teachers before the end of 2016.“We are still doing an analysis to be sure we are getting efficiency.“Because of the separation of senior secondary and junior secondary schools, there have been some requests for teachers.“We need to do some analysis to know the exact number that we need now but we know that there have been some complaints about teachers in some schools,” he said.
The commissioner said the state would get the required number of teachers to run its schools, adding that many of them would be posted to rural areas.“We are also taking a firm stand on redistribution of teachers across schools in the state.“We have made it clear that there will be no preference in teacher redistribution, including those already in the system because lot of people lobby to remain in the urban centres.“We have made it known to them that people in the rural areas are not less important than those in the cities.“So, if you are ready to take up appointment, you should be ready to go anywhere,” he stated.
