Akukalia couldn't continue in his pursuit to become a Catholic Priest because of some circumstances beyond his control. He proceed to University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he graduated with 2nd Class in Education/Political Science.

The 28th edition of the Premier League competition has been historic for some reasons,
Many records were broken and some were created as well.

Liverpool won their first-ever title and a host of Premier League records have been matched or broken by clubs and players.

We take a look at how the competition's history books have been rewritten in 2019/20.

Liverpool cemented first place with seven matches to spare, more than any previous title-winner.

Most consecutive home wins

Liverpool set a record of 22 straight victories when they beat AFC Bournemouth at Anfield in March. They went on to extend the run to 24 matches.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool won 32 of their fixtures, equalling the record after Manchester city achieved the same total in both 2017/18 and 2018/19.

Most consecutive victories

From October 2019 to February 2020, Liverpool won 18 straight matches, matching Man City’s run which ended in December 2017.

Most points collected at home

Liverpool amassed 55 from a possible 57 at Anfield, the joint-most alongside Chelsea(2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11) and Man City (2011/12).

Biggest away win

Leicester City’s 9-0 triumph at Southampton was the biggest away win and the joint-biggest victory overall, after Man Utd beat lpswich 9-0 at home in March 1995.

Quickest team to score five in a match

Man City were 5-0 up against Watford after just 18 minutes in September, the earliest a team have managed five goals.

Five players scoring 10 goals

Man City also became the first team to achieve this feat in a season, with Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez all hitting double figures.

Four consecutive three-goal wins

With July’s 3-0 win at Aston Villa, Man Utd became the first team to win four consecutive matches by a margin of three or more goals.

Biggest win v leaders for bottom-three team

Watford’s 3-0 win against Liverpool was the biggest victory for a side in the relegation zone against the team top of the table.

Wins on every day of the week

Aston Villa became the first side to win on all seven days of the week in a single campaign.

Man Utd were given 14 spot-kicks, the most a team have ever won in a season.

Fewest goals conceded by a promoted club

Shelfield United let in just 39 on their return to the competition. The Blades also became the first-ever promoted team to avoid defeat in their first nine away matches of a season.

Most times relegated

Nowrich city were relegated for a record fifth time, scoring the fewest-ever away goals in a season, with seven. They also lost all 27 matches in which they fell behind, becoming the only team not to record a single point from a losing position.

Most times promoted

West Bromwich Albion were promoted from the Championship for a record fifth time.

Most assists in a season

De Bruyne equalled Thierry Henry’s record of 20 goals set up from 2002/03. De Bruyne also became the first player to set up at least 15 goals in three different campaigns, and the fastest to reach 50 assists, doing so in 123 matches.

Most goal involvements in first 10 matches

Bruno Fernandes registered his 13th goal involvement in his 10th match, the joint-highest total for goals and assists in a player’s first 10 appearances.

Ever-present outfield title-winner

Virgil van Dijk equalled a record by playing every minute for the champions, emulating Gary Pallister (1992/93), John Terry (2014/15), Wes Morgan (2015/16) and Cesar Azpilicueta (2016/17).

Oldest to start 100 in a row

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster became the oldest player to start 100 consecutive matches, completing his century against Southampton at 37 years and 86 days.

Oldest Golden Boot winner

Jamie Vardy, finished as the top scorer at the age of 33, with 23 goals. The previous oldest Golden Boot winner was 32-year-old Didier Drogba,who scored 29 times in 2009/10.

Highest-scoring foreign player

Sergio Aguero become the top-scoring overseas player when he overtook Thierry Henry's total of 175 with three goals at Aston Villa in January. He finished the campaign with 180 goals.

Most hat-tricks in history

With his 12th hat-trick in the competition, netted against Aston Villa, Sergio Aguero broke Alan Shearer's record of 11.

First player to score in his side’s first six matches

Sergio Aguero achieved the feat when he found the net in an 8-0 victory over Watford.

Most goals in first two matches

With a goal against Liverpool and a hat-trick against Newcastle United, Teemu Pukki became the first player to score as many as four goals in his first two appearances.

Scoring against every team faced

A goal against Sheff Utd in July meant that Harry Kane scored against all 29 opponents he has faced. He is the only player to face more than one club and score against them all.

Most fouls on a player

Jack Grealish was fouled 167 times, the most in a season since records began in 1998/99.

Most chances created in a month

Emiliano Buendia created 29 goalscoring chances in December, the most by a player in a single calendar month since such data became available in 2003/04.

Earliest booking

Scott McTominay, picked up a yellow card after just 24 seconds in Man Utd’s Boxing Day match against Newcastle, the fastest given since this data started being collected in 2006/07.

Most penalties conceded

David Luiz gave away five, the most by one player in a season.

Most Player of the Month awards

Sergio Aguero won a record seventh EA SPORTS Player of the Month award, surpassing Steven Gerrard and Harry Kane's six awards.

Most Manager of the Month awards in a season

Jurgen Klopp won the Barclays award five times, beating Pep Guardiola's four from 2017/18.

The Premier League season is over but Arsenal's FA Cup win has had a big impact on the qualification places for UEFA competitions
The 2019/20 Premier League campaign may be over but, with Arsenal winning the FA Cup on Saturday and European cup competitions yet to finish, next season's UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League qualifiers are yet to be finalised.

The Gunners won 2-1 against Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday, meaning they will advance to the UEFA Europa League group stage despite their eighth-place finish.

Below we explain the scenarios for UEFA qualification this season.

How it normally works

The top four at the end of the season ordinarily enter the UEFA Champions League (UCL). The team placed fifth and the winners of the FA Cup and the EFL Cup typically qualify for the UEFA Europa League (UEL).

Qualification by league position
Qualification usually goes as in the table below, with seven European spots ordinarily available



*If the FA Cup winners finish in the top five, their UEL spot goes to the next-placed team in the PL yet to qualify
**If the EFL Cup winners finish in the top five, their UEL spot goes to the next-placed team in the PL yet to qualify

Should a Premier League club win the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League, they will automatically qualify for the group stage of next season's UEFA Champions League, regardless of their league finishing position.

A maximum of five Premier League teams are eligible for UEFA Champions League qualification.

If a Premier League club win the UEFA Champions League and another win the UEFA Europa League, and neither finish in the top four, the club lying fourth in the Premier League drops into the UEFA Europa League group stage.







As it stands: UEFA Champions League
Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have secured the four spots in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

If Man City or Chelsea win this season's UEFA Champions League in August, it will not change the league's UEFA allocation for next season.

Equally, there will be no change if Man Utd win the UEFA Europa League and the place in the UCL that comes with that prize.

But seventh-placed Wolves can still qualify for the UEFA Champions League by winning the UEFA Europa League to give the Premier League five representatives in the competition.

As it stands: UEFA Europa League
The fifth-placed Premier League team, in this case Leicester City, ordinarily qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.

Because Man City have won the EFL Cup, the place in the second qualifying round of the UEL that this trophy merits will go to sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur

Arsenal's FA Cup win confirmed Spurs' second qualifying round place for the UEL. If the Gunners had lost to Chelsea, Spurs would have claimed a group-stage place.

This means that UEFA Wolves miss out on a Europa League place, but they could yet be the eighth Premier League team in European competition if they win the 2019/20 UEL.

The Premier League season will resume on June 17 with Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal – postponed due to the EFL Cup Final – will now take place on 17 June, followed by a full match round beginning on Friday 19 June. Due to COVID-19, games will take place behind closed doors.
Premier League Shareholders also approved a proposal that would see all 92 remaining matches broadcast live in the UK by the League’s existing broadcast partners: Sky Sports, BT Sport, BBC Sport and Amazon Prime.
The Premier League released the following statement on Thursday evening.
Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “Today we have provisionally agreed to resume the Premier League on Wednesday 17 June. But this date cannot be confirmed until we have met all the safety requirements needed, as the health and welfare of all participants and supporters is our priority.
“Sadly, matches will have to take place without fans in stadiums, so we are pleased to have come up with a positive solution for supporters to be able to watch all the remaining 92 matches.
“The Premier League and our clubs are proud to have incredibly passionate and loyal supporters. It is important to ensure as many people as possible can watch the matches at home.
“We will continue to work step-by-step and in consultation with all our stakeholders as we move towards resuming the 2019/20 season.”
The planned kick-off times in the UK for live matches will also differ from the traditional times.

The most recent developments have seen three rounds of coronavirus testing completed, with the latest results, for tests conducted between May 25 and May 26, seeing four positive Covid-19 cases reported.
Players have also been given the green light to resume contact trainingas the Premier League gets ready to welcome back football in England.
Liverpool remain just two wins away from sealing the Premier League title, while Villa have the chance to move out of the bottom three, should they beat Sheffield United in their game in hand.
There is also an intriguing battle to finish in the top four, with Leicester City and Chelsea currently occupying third and fourth respectively, ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United who are in fifth.

The Premier League have reportedly given the green light to a proposed £300m takeover of Newcastle United by a Saudi-backed consortium.

The move will mean an end to Mike Ashley's 13-year ownership of the club, with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia - led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman - taking an 80 percent stake.


The Saudi consortium, assembled by financier Amanda Staveley, also includes billionnaire British businessmen the Reuben brothers, who will have a 10% stake.

Their bid had been given the go-ahead, with just the transfer of funds still to be sorted, according to The Sun

The publication reports that there had been a delay in assessing the application while Premier League chiefs concentrated on Project Restart.

There has been some opposition to the bid, with critics highlighting Saudi Arabia's poor human rights record and allegations of links to illegal streaming of sports events including football matches.

But the bid has now passed the league's fit and proper persons' test for owners and directors, The Sun reports.

Once the funds have been transferred and all paperwork dealt, an announcement is expected to made around June 1.

Many fans will welcome the end of Ashley's ownership of the club.

Chelsea are considering a loan deal to sign Philippe Coutinho as an alternative to Jadon Sancho because they fear the Borussia Dortmund winger will join Manchester United.

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has revealed how Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk left him feeling 'like a little girl'.

The Blades player admitted that the Premier League is a big step up from the Championship and that facing a defender who many now consider to be the world's best left him feeling physically inadequate.

McBurnie told the Sheffield Star:

"It took me a few months to get up to speed. I had to do gym for the first time in my life!

"I bounced off van Dijk and realised I needed to do a bit of bench press. He had everything and I felt like a little girl against him.

"I'm skinnier than a lot of defenders so when the ball goes up in the air, I give them a nudge in the air and that's always worked, at any level.

"I tried it with van Dijk. He was off-balance, and I still bounced straight off him. I thought: 'I'll have to go and play off Joel Matip here instead!'."

The answer is not that it holds personal significance; nor is it an attempt to create a unique identity within the game.

Instead, it was a result of someone carrying out a relatively common task within their job.

It turns out Lee Radcliffe, the club's kit management coordinator, is the reason why Alexander-Arnold and so many of his young admirers now bear the No.66 on the back of their Liverpool shirts.

Little did Radcliffe know what would go on to happen in the years following his routine act, carried out when Alexander-Arnold first progressed to Melwood from the Kirkby Academy, where he had been since the age of six.

"When we get any young lads that come down from the Academy, we always deliberately try to give them a high-ish number," Radcliffe explains to Liverpoolfc.com.

"We don't like to give them a low number in case they sort of think they've made it straight away, if you know what I mean.

"You pick it out because it's a free number and it's around that sort of number you think, 'We'll give that out because he's only just come down'.

"When you see him now lifting trophies and celebrating with No.66 on the back, it's a weird feeling and I can't really describe it. It's weird to see such a high number and for someone to be happy with it!

"Someone like Trent has just been happy to be around the first team and obviously doesn't realise how good he is. He doesn't really ask for anything, to be honest.

"I think he's that laidback that he's obviously been given the number and thought, 'Yeah, that'll do me. I'll keep that', and not realised how iconic it's become over the years."

Alexander-Arnold's first senior appearance for the Reds arrived in 2015 when, aged 16, he started in a pre-season friendly at Swindon Town.

He wore a nameless No.2 shirt that afternoon before receiving his next first-team opportunity the following summer away at Tranmere Rovers, where the No.66 awaited him.

The rest, as they say, is history.

During a Twitter Q&A with fans in February, Alexander-Arnold admitted he didn't know whether he would keep that squad number for his entire career.

So far, the right-back has racked up 125 competitive appearances for the club as No.66, winning the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup along the way.

And yet, the 21-year-old remains the same well-mannered individual that quietly first walked through the door at the West Derby training complex.

Vatican -Pope Benedict XVI Emeritus is to spend his 91st birthday in ‘quiet and peace’, the Vatican’s official news site said, on Monday.
Benedict was due to have a little celebration in the Vatican monastery where he has retired, with his 94-year-old brother Georg Ratzinger, his Secretary Archbishop Georg Gaenswein said.

The future Pope Benedict XVI was born on Holy Saturday, April 16 1927. His birthplace is Marktl-an-Inn, a tiny village less than an hour’s walk away from Altoetting, the most important Marian Shrine in Bavaria.

Benedict became in 2013 the first pope to resign in nearly 600 years, citing the strains of old age.
Since then, he has lived a life of prayer inside the Vatican gardens and rarely ventured out, staying true to a promise to remain “hidden to the world.”

In February, he said in a letter to Italian daily Corriere della Sera, that he was preparing to meet his maker: “As my physical strength slowly fades, I am on an interior pilgrimage towards home.

Two men who are from Anambra state invented a machine that washes bitter leaf

NAIJ.com has come across the story of two young geniuses who constructed a machine that would save many lives. The young men constructed a machine that can wash bitter leaf and convert the juice for medicinal purposes.

The men who are from Anambra state named the machine OGANIHU C². They revealed to NAIJ.com that Oganihu is the Igbo word for progress, adding that the C2 stands for the first letters of their names.

OGANIHU C² inventors, Ubaka Chukwuebuka Patrick and Atikpo Chukwuebuka Patrick, stated that the machine washes bitter leaf and converts the juice into medicinal substances.

They revealed that the juice that is generated after washing bitter leaf can be used as liquid fertilizer, methanol and insecticides.

Ubaka Chukwuebuka said: "After washing the Bitter Leaf, we will Convert the bitterLeaf Juice(water) into Fertilizer(Liquid). We also uses its water(Juice) to Produce Methanol, Insecticides etc. The project is quite Mechanized. You don't need to touch anything, it's Automatic."

President Donald Trump ordered a strike on
Syria Friday in response to last weekend's chemical weapons attack.
Addressing the nation Friday evening, Trump said the strike was a joint operation with France and the United Kingdom.

"A short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,"Trump said.

Trump said that the "massacre" last weekend in Syria "was a significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons use by that very terrible regime."
"The evil and the despicable attack left mothers and fathers, infants and children thrashing in pain and gasping for air. These are not the actions of a man,"

Trump said, referring to Assad. "They are crimes of a monster instead."

In a later briefing, Defense Secretary James Mattis said the strike demonstrates the international resolve to prevent the use of chemical weapons, saying he is "confident the Syrian regime conducted a chemical attack on innocent people in the last week.""Clearly the Assad regime did not get the message last year," Mattis said, adding that this time the U.S. struck harder.
"We have gone to great lengths to avoid civilian and foreign casualties," he said. "... I believe that we sent a very strong message."

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford said the strike specifically hit three targets associated with the production and storage of chemical weapons: a scientific research center; a storage center for sarin and its precursor components; and a chemical weapons storage facility and command post.

"Important infrastructure was destroyed," said Dunford.

There were no reports of American losses, Mattis said.
Russia was not notified before launching airstrikes against Syria, Dunford said, adding no additional strikes are planned.
Social posts out of Syria showed flames lighting up the dark skies. Explosions could be heard as well.


Syrian state media confirmed the scientific research center in Barzeh, north of Damascus, was targeted in the attack, adding that a number of rockets targeting warehouses belonging to the Syrian army in Homs were allegedly intercepted.

There was a pandemonium in Abraka, Delta State as a dangerous cobra attacked a man in his toilet. The cobra was a fierce huge one that it only took the intervention the vigilante  group who gunned it down. The said man, Luke Erukakpome shared the miraculous escape on his facebook wall. See what he wrote.

"God's Miracles never end and they are marvellous in our eyes.

God saved me from a dangerous horrible looking  cobra yesterday night  in my toilet Seat(WC) here in Abraka delta state.

It was around 7.34pm when wanted to use the toilet (pee)  I decided to use my touch light to view the sink  before action,i saw a black stuff below the water in the toilet seat and I was trying to identify what it could be because I used the toilet some hours ago. Lo and behold it was a horrible looking cobra. I called the care taker of the hostel where I live, he came and confirmed it.The snake is so big that we couldn't devised another good means to kill it than the use of Gun .For more than 2hrs the snake was there until we called the attention of the vigilante group and finally it was killed with the aid of a gun.

Please always make sure you look very well before using your toilet. I couldn't believe how it entered but verifications say it came from the toilet suck away pit."

A young couple have been found by local residents in Bangladesh dangling on a tree after hanging themselves in a shocking suicide.

Multiple online reports online reveal that their parents were not in support of their marriage which makes the two lovebirds to commit suicide because they don’t want to be separated.

News report reaching us from a confirmed source disclose how A Kogi State University graduate has had her leg crushed in a fatal accident which happened in the school premises.
According to reports, the yet to be identified female student from the Department of Sociology who has since been taken to a hospital was celebrating with her fellow colleagues after they had written their final exams when another graduating student unknowingly ran over leg.
The sad accident happened in front of Social Science faculty block has however left her colleagues and other students of the institution in a solemn mood.

ANAMBRA State governor, Chief Willie Obiano would be inaugurated for a second term in office today amid pomp in the state capital, Awka.

The inauguration which would herald another four-year term would be witnessed by dignitaries, who arrived in the state in large numbers.
Speaking on the event, a chieftain of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Emeka Okonkwo, called on indigenes of the state to support the governor in order to surpass his accomplishments in the previous term.

He said: “The overwhelming support for APGA at the last election was a testament to the laudable performance of Governor Willie Obiano in the state. We are delighted to note that Ndi Anambra have come to recognise and also appreciate good governance”.
Okonkwo stressed that under Obiano, Anambra has become the fastest developing state in Nigeria, adding that it was in appreciation of that commitment to service that made the people return him for another term.

NSUKKA—A factional group at Nguru community in Nsukka local government area of Enugu state has sued the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Rev. Prof Godfrey Onah, the Spiritual Director of Okunerere Adoration Ministry Rev. Fr. Paul Martins Obayi and elders of the community over a proposed private university in the area.

Fr. Obayi of the famous Okunere Adoration Ministry had approached the community for plots of land to establish the university which was said to have been approved after due process by the community.


However, a factional group of the community laying claim to ownership of the land dragged the clerics and elders of the community to court for trespass on their land.

Vanguard gathered that the community, after the elders were served court summon convened a general meeting of the 10 villages that make up Nguru community where it was resolved to stand in support of the establishment of the university in the area.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the meeting, the eldest man of the community, Edeoga Ekete Onyishi said it was a taboo for a child to sue his father in court over land, maintaining that the community willfully allotted the plots of land to Fr. Obayi for the purpose of establishing a university in the community.
“It is surprising that some people from the same community, about 21 of them ganged up, conspired among themselves to sue the Catholic Bishop, Fr. Obayi and elders of the community while laying false claims to the ownership of the ancestral land of the community” he said.

“Fr. Obayi who equally hailed from Nguru community approached the community in accordance with the custom and traditions of the community before the land was allotted for the purpose of the university to be established in the area”

He called on the factional group to withdraw the suit and follow the line of peace for the development of the community, pointing out that the 21 factional group may be ex-communicated if they fail to abide by the general decisions of the community.

Also speaking Me Ernest Obayi said that it was madness on the side of the factional group to take the entire community to court, explaining that Nguru general assembly met and approved the plots of land while some cabals in the community conspired to wage trouble to scuttle the good intentions of the cleric.

“The community had earlier set up peace committee that came up with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the host community and Fr. Obayi for the purpose of the university in the area. Some of the factional group were members of the peace committee but later pulled out to sow seeds of discord to stop the developmental project of the cleric.” he noted.

German lawmakers on Wednesday re-elected Angela Merkel as chancellor for a fourth, and likely final, term that may prove her most challenging yet as she takes charge of a fragile coalition with her personal standing diminished.
Lawmakers voted by 364 to 315, with nine abstentions, in favour of re-electing Merkel, a humbling start as the coalition of her conservatives and the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) has 399 votes in the Bundestag lower house of parliament.
"I accept the vote," a beaming Merkel, 63, told lawmakers before being sworn in by Bundestag President Wolfgang Schaeuble.She later told broadcaster the ruling parties would focus on taking support away from far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which hurt them in last September's national election.
"That is our aim - that we make them (AfD) smaller and get them out of the Bundestag again insofar as is possible," she said. "We want a coalition that appeals to all people in the country."
In office since 2005, Merkel has dominated Germany's political landscape and steered the European Union through economic crisis.
But her authority was dented by her decision in 2015 to commit Germany to an open-door policy on refugees, resulting in an influx of more than one million people that laid bare deep divisions within the EU over migration and fuelled the AfD.

While also being locked in a trade stand-off with the United States, Merkel must now juggle competing domestic demands from within her coalition.
Her conservative CDU/CSU alliance only turned to the SPD to prolong the 'grand coalition' that has governed Germany since 2013 out of desperation, after talks on a three-way alliance with two smaller parties collapsed in November.


"It will not be an easy coalition, we have some difficult tasks ahead," said Volker Kauder, parliamentary leader of the conservative bloc.
Ministers, younger and more diverse than the last cabinet, take up their posts almost six months after last September's national election.
"I have the feeling that nothing good is going to be done for the country in this legislature period," said Alice Weidel, the AfD's leader in parliament. "It will probably be Angela Merkel's last term and at some point it will be enough."
