On issues of human rights abuse/enforcement, the ECOWAS Court has jurisdiction despite the national courts of the member states. In fact, its jurisdiction has been challenged and it has ruled. It cannot go into the substance of other charges levelled against him.

Put simply, the court has jurisdiction to ensure that every West African is treated like the human he/she is whilst being tried for any other offence.
