Your watt meter is meant to be connected to the source socket on the wall, that way you can measure the energy with and without your energy saving device.

On the other hand, you also need a clamp meter and stranded cable for connections, so that you can clamp the cables between the energy saving device and the source wall socket, then the connected appliance.
