Foreign Affairs / Russian Ambassador To Turkey Andrei Karlov Shot Dead In Ankara by sakius4real(m): 6:36am On Dec 20, 2016 |
A Turkish policeman has shot dead Russia's ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, apparently in protest at Russia's involvement in Aleppo. The killer has been identified as Mevlut Mert Aydintas, 22, a member of the Ankara riot police. It was not clear if he had links to any group. The incident happened a day after protests in Turkey over Russian support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Turkey's president said the attack was aimed at hurting ties with Russia. Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone and, in a video message, said that they both agreed it was an act of "provocation". He said that those who wanted to harm relations between the two countries "would not achieve it". In televised remarks, Mr Putin said the act was "undoubtedly a provocation aimed at disrupting the normalisation" of bilateral ties and the "peace process in Syria". The killer was named on Monday night as Mevlut Mert Altintas, a 22-year-old riot squad police officer who has been based in Ankara for the past two years. He shouted “Allahu Akbar” – God is great – as he pulled the trigger, but was unclear whether he was inspired by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) or the rebels who have finally been crushed in Aleppo after four years of war. Reports in Turkey suggested he recited a message in Arabic similar to a phrase associated with the rebel group Al Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda. He was shot dead by police in a shoot-out that lasted 15 minutes. Three other people were wounded in the attack. In televised remarks, Mr Putin said the act was "undoubtedly a provocation aimed at disrupting the normalisation" of bilateral ties and the "peace process in Syria". A group of Russian investigators will arrive in Turkey to look into the case, Mr Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Andrei Karlov was visiting a photo gallery in the Turkish capital The UN Security Council strongly condemned ambassador Andrei Karlov's murder, while Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was appalled by "this senseless act of terror". While there were protests in recent days about the situation in Aleppo, on a political level the Turkish and Russian governments have been co-operating in the ceasefire operation, the BBC's Turkey correspondent, Mark Lowen, reports. Media captionWhy was Russian ambassador killed in Turkey? The BBC's Jeremy Bowen reports Before the attack happened, a meeting of the Russian, Turkish and Iranian foreign ministers had been planned for Tuesday in Moscow. But now it seems the political fight over Syria's future has spilled over into public hatred, our correspondent says. The attack was swiftly condemned by other countries: US Secretary of State John Kerry: "We stand ready to offer assistance to Russia and Turkey as they investigate this despicable attack, which was also an assault on the right of all diplomats to safely and securely advance and represent their nations around the world" UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson: "Shocked to hear of despicable murder of Russia's ambassador to Turkey. My thoughts are with his family. I condemn this cowardly attack" German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said his country stood with Turkey in a common fight against terrorism French President Francois Hollande "strongly" condemned the killing The movement of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen has also condemned the attack and rejected any links to the attacker, according to an adviser quoted by Reuters news agency. Turkish officials blame the movement for July's failed coup aimed against Mr Erdogan. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-38369962 Graphic Video link- http://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2016/12/19/turkey-russian-ambassador-assassinated-orig-mg.cnn

NYSC / Re: First Class Youth Corper That Die Due To NYSC Officials Negligence Buried. by sakius4real(m): 9:05pm On Dec 01, 2016 |
*** She came, She saw but they never allowed her to conquer- a tribute to Late #Oladepo_Ifedolapo_Amoke #NYSC_Batch_B_2016 *** You called home 5hrs to your death and told you sister (a Nurse) to start coming as the NYSC doctors are not doing any thing for you, they thought you were pretending cos you did not want to go for parade so they did not attend to you, when you started calling people from home they eventually gave you an injection, immediately after the injection you called again that you notice a lot of rashes on your body that she should speak with the doctor who refuse to talk to her, you called five minutes later and told her your tongue is twisting they sent all your friends out after seeing all the reaction on your body. After giving you an unknown injection, you requested for a flight home and a call was placed immediately, they told your sister Abuja flight is Mon.,Wed. & Fri. You were told to tell anybody in the clinic that your sister is a nurse they should allow her speak with them, a male nurse took the phone from you and told her you are having Anaphylaxis (reaction) and they will watch you for just one hour and transfer you to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital but alas they did not transfer you until 5hours later when they notice you were restless and calling people at home, your sisters boarded a bus going to Kano to come pick you from there, they were begged to take you to a teaching hospital around but they took you to General hospital, Gwazo where they have nothing or little care to render. They took your phone from you claiming you were not resting, from that 5pm no one could talk to you, It took a 16 hours journey to make sure your sisters get to you, but they were called around 3am that you gave up, without any doctor in the hospital to assist you the only nurse on duty told your sisters she tried her best, her best of staying beside you when death was taking you away cos there was nothing to use, from that 3am till your sisters got to Kano they were hoping it will only be a mix up somewhere that it can't be you, they got to Kano and met you at Aminu Kano mortuary, alas it was you being put in that cold place. Amoke you couldn't withstand the agony, NYSC caused your death due to negligence. Continue to rest till that glorious morning. ADIEU #Oladepo_Ifedolapo_Amoke |

Politics / Ondo Election: Less Than 1% Of Deployed Card Readers Malfunctioned – INEC by sakius4real(m): 11:53am On Nov 27, 2016 |
Ondo Election: – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says only less than one per cent of the card readers deployed for the conduct of Ondo State governorship election malfunctioned. INEC Deputy Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Nick Dazang, disclosed this in an interview on Saturday in Abuja. Dazang said that only 11 out of the over 3,000 card readers deployed for Saturday’s election malfunctioned. “The election is generally peaceful. We were able to open at all the polling units, even in places that have challenges of terrain including Ilaje. “The election was peaceful, courtesy of the security agencies; even though we had some smart card reader’s failure, they were only 11, not up to one per cent of the total number deployed. “The percentage is infinitesimal,’’ he said. Dazang said that though there were few cases where the card readers malfunctioned, the commission acted immediately to resolve the problem. According to him, the card reader at the polling unit where the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, voted failed and it was replaced immediately. He also pledged that the collation process would be done in a transparent manner. Dazang also dismissed the insinuation that the election results would be manipulated, saying INEC had already put in place measures to check this. The measures, according to him, include early commencement of the collation process and thorough monitoring of the process. “The results collation right from the ward level to the local government and state level are being monitored by stakeholders, including journalists, observers and political party agents among others. “It is not possible for anybody to manipulate election results with the way we have articulated the process. “People and stakeholders who are there were also given the copies of the results as they are collated; they can use that against what is finally declared. “The times when election results are being manipulated are over. It is not possible again because you can now trail the process,’’ he said. He called on all stakeholders to continue to support INEC to conclude the election peacefully. |
