Agriculture / How To Know Different Diseases From Birds Poop And How To Know The Right Drugs by samae(m): 9:31pm On Sep 04, 2022
SIGNS TO KNOW SICK BIRDS, HOW TO KNOW THE RIGHT DRUGS FOR DISEASE TREATMENT & HOW TO RECOGNISE DIFFERENT DISEASES FROM BIRD'S POOP.

Just like humans, there are different signs birds show when they get sick or before they die suddenly. Its only those that are not noticing their birds that won't know the birds are about to get sick before sickness suddenly appears.

Signs sick birds do show includes,

1) Standing ,Sleeping & Closing eyes.

There are different conditions that can make birds to be standing and sleeping some of them includes Gumboro diseases infection, CRD and cold among others.

3) Not Eating And Finishing Feed like they do before.

Another sign birds will show is that the rate birds eat reduces will be sluggish in eating, when you see this know that a disease is around the corner.

4) Coughing and sneezing.

This is particular a symptom of Cold and Cough, which you can easily prevent by giving them Gentylo Or Coryl sp.

5) Dropping Their Feathers . birds will no longer be running up and down but will start staying in one place and wear coat with their feathers. Know that this is another symptoms of poultry diseases.

6) Watery Or Irregular Colour Of Poops.
Its very common for birds to drop different color of poops based on how good their health is. They drop brown poops when they have Diarrhea or Ecoli, Green Poops when they have cholera or Newcastle diseases, yellow bright or bloody poops when they have coccidiosis.

When it comes to drugs administration

The work of your vet or consultant is to prescribe drugs for you to buy, Some vet may even explain to you the works of the drugs they gave you and its contents so that you can be able to know the right drugs to buy next time just incase you don't have a vet around. I think its better for farmers to have idea of what they are buying so as not to buy the wrong medication that is used for another purpose different from the purpose they bought it for.

1) Antibiotics.
If you are looking for a good Antibiotics get Antibiotics that contain Gentamycin(Examples of drugs with Gentamycin are Doxygen and Gentylo). Or you can get mild Antibiotics for day old chicks that contain Amoxycillin or Colistin ( Examples of this drugs is Amoxyl col).
You can also get antibiotics that contain tetracycline or ERYTHROMYCIN (Drugs that contain erythromycin includes Coryl sp which is very effective against crd and coryza.)

2)Drugs To Treat C.R.D,COUGH,SNEEZING AND COLD, coryza.
All the diseases mentioned above are respiratory diseases and its best to use drugs that contains Gentamycin or Tylosin or doxycycline to cure or prevent it.
Examples of drugs with Gentamycin are Doxygen and Gentylo.

And example of drugs that contains Tylosin which is very effective against CRD,cough and sneezing are drugs like Tylodox, Centre-Tydox, Tylodox Extra and Gentylo.

3)Drugs To Treat Coccidiosis
Coccidiosis is a Gastro intestinal disease, And that is why its symptoms is always noticed in the poops because it attacks the digestive system of the birds. Coccidiosis always make birds drop yellowish or bloody poops.

To prevent or treat coccidiosis get drugs that contain TOTRAZURIL(examples of drugs that contain TOTRAZURIL is Kepcox)
Or you can also get drugs that contain SULFAQUINOXALINE SODIUM Or drugs that contains AMPROLIUM. Examples of this drugs are Amprocox, Coccifor, Vitacox, Embazin Forte.

HOW TO KNOW THE TYPE OF DISEASES YOUR BIRDS HAVE BY NOTICING THE COLOUR OF THEIR POOPS.

The Normal colour of your birds poops should be white and ash colour. But if birds are not dropping this type of poop it does not mean something is wrong with them, but most times what will cause a change in the dropping of poultry birds is disease

1. YELLOW AND FOAMING DROPPING: Early stage of Coccidiosis.

2. DROPPING WITH BLOOD: Coccidiosis.

3. GEENISH DROPPING: Late stage of worms,
NewCastle Disease, fowl cholera/typhoid, eaten not well dried feed or eaten a lot of green vegetables if free ranged.

4. WHITE MILKY RUNNING DROPPING: Worms, Gumboro disease (Infectious Bursal Disease-IBD). Give Gumboro vaccine in the first Month of your birds to prevent Gumboro diseases.

5. BROWN RUNNING DROPPING: E.coli Infection. You can treat with floxinor or gentylo and vitaflash.

6. BLACK DROPPING: Possibility of internal bleeding or too much of proteins. To avoid internal bleeding and enteritis, you should use water acidifiers.

7. CLEAR OR WATERING RUNNING DROPPINGS: Infectious Bronchitis or Stress. Mycotoxins too cause this! The same with too much usage of antibiotics

Agriculture / All You Should Know About Noilers, They Consume Less Feed Lay Eggs And Good Meat by samae(m): 2:40pm On Sep 02, 2022
*DO YOU KNOW NOILERS ARE RAISED FOR MEAT AND EGG LAYING? THEY CONSUME LESS FEED AND ARE HIGHLY PROFITABLE.*

Noilers are those birds you see with different colors of feathers they don't have a particular color you can use to recognize them. Their body form resembles Cockerels and their males grow tall so much more than other poultry birds.

Noilers are the breed that was gotten after mating Broilers with Noilers. And that's why they add meat almost like Broilers and are rugged, resistant to diseases, and have sweetmeats like Cockerels.

NOILERS' MALES ARE GOOD FOR MEAT PRODUCTION WHY THEIR FEMALES ARE GOOD FOR EGG LAYING. So if you are looking for dual-purpose birds or you want both Egg and meat from your poultry birds, you should go for Noilers.
Noilers' meat is not the same as broiler meats, because they have sweeter and tougher meats than Broilers.

Noilers are also strong and resistant to heat and hot weather, so they don't get affected by them.

If you are also considering raising birds in your compound and also like free-range birds, Noilers are very good birds when it comes to free-ranging because of their resistance to diseases than other birds, they can eat and survive on your leftover food and still maintain their body weights.

After 5Months the females start laying eggs and their eggs can be used for food consumption or you can decide to mate the males with the females and take the eggs laid after mating to hatcheries to hatch the eggs and you can also give the eggs to local hens to hatch their eggs for you. Because Noilers cannot hatch their eggs.

Noiler meat yield per bird is also greater than that of
cockerel; males weigh approximately 3.5 kg (7.7 lb.) and females about 2.5 kg (5.5
lb.).
However, Noiler chickens eat more than other breeds but they are good converters of feeds

The female Noilers could commence laying from
the age of 20 weeks but have in mind that they can not produce as many eggs as the original pullet layers do and they also can't lay for long as pullet layers do.

A female noiler can produce around 150 – 170 eggs per year, however, it cannot be compared to
real pullets in terms of egg production. So, if you are only interested in eggproduction, do not buy Noiler, instead, go for Isa brown pullets.

Agriculture / How To Calculate The Bags Of Feed Needed To Raise 100 Christmas Broilers. by samae(m): 3:42pm On Sep 01, 2022
HOW TO CALCULATE THE BAGS OF FEED YOU WILL NEED TO RAISE 100 BROILERS YOU WANT TO SELL DURING CHRISTMAS TIME.

The question of how much feed per broiler chicken is a very interesting one that farmers should often ask.
And it is pretty wise to ask this question. To know how much feed per broiler chicken, is to know what it takes and the capital needed to raise the number of birds you have in mind.
This requires a sort of broiler chicken feed calculation. As a rule or guide,
a broiler will eat about twice the target weight in Kg you want them to have
Usually, it is a little over 2X the total body weight you want them to have before you sell them off.

. That is, if you desire your birds to have a 2 kg body weight within 5 weeks, you should be ready to use a little over 4kg of feed per bird within their 1st week to their 4th week.

For example, you have 100 broilers, and you want them to achieve 4Kg in 9 weeks, using
the 2x principle, you will need 2 x 4kg (of feed) per bird within that 9 weeks.

That is; 2 x 4Kg =8Kg which means you have to feed each of your birds a total of 8kg of feed within 9 weeks.

The total feed required for the 100 broilers will be
8kg feed per bird × the number of birds (100) =800Kg

Remember that a bag
Of feed is 25Kg.

Therefore; the total number of which is 800Kg divided by 25kg=32 bags of feeds.

This also means you will need 32bags of feed to raise 100 birds from week 1-week 9 to make them weigh atleast 4kg per bird in 9 weeks.

You can add 1 bag since most feed companies' measurements do not
read 25Kg after weighing them.
I hope the example gives you more understanding?

Broiler Production Tips
Price of day-old chicks
=₦350-#400
Price of broiler starter= #8,700 (New Hope).
Broiler farming is all about the number of chickens you can raise and sell, therefore, the more the number of birds you can raise and sell, the higher the profit.

Your selling price varies depending on your target market and location.

A very important thing to consider is to have a cold room or partner with one and sell directly to consumers. Because middlemen e.g. market women can frustrate you
if you are not careful, and never sell your birds on credit. You didn’t raise them on credit, so don’t sell on credit unless you sign an MOU with the buyer

The bottom line is, broiler raising is very lucrative if you have buyers and sell at a good price. It is also a business of numbers, and the number of batches you can do in a year determines.

Just imagine that you have a deal of supplying 1000 or 2000 birds every 7 weeks constantly, trust me, within a year, you would have added a couple of zeros to your bank account

Agriculture / 9 Signs Your Birds Will Show When They Are Due For Deworming by samae(m): 11:57pm On Aug 30, 2022
HOW POULTRY BIRDS GET INFESTED WITH WORMS & SIGNS TO KNOW YOUR BIRDS NEEDS TO BE DEWORMED IMMEDIATELY.

Deworming is one of the major practices in poultry management. It is an act of eradicating worms that slows the Ultimum growth and liveliness in poultry birds.

*Below are the ten (10) basic signs:*

1. Reduction in the amount of feed intake. Normally it's expected that the more your birds grow the higher the feed consumption they need for proper growth. So when you notice your birds eat lesser than they take before, just know it may be a sign they need to be dewormed.

2) When you notice Drastic Reduction in birds weight or little delayed or no egg production in laying birds, they may be showing you signs they need deworming.

4. Sleeping excessively. When your birds are standing and sleeping or when their sleep becomes too obvious, it's a sign also that they are over due to be dewormed.

5. When you notice their poo hole is filled or stained with poops it's another sign they show so deworm them.

6.Vomiting water, saliva or any other thing from their mouth is also an other sigh they need to be dewormed.

7. Paleness of the egg yolk and reduction in egg size.

8.Also when you notice their Comb to be pale or Wattle to have change in brightness, it's another sign of worm infestation.

9. Birds infested with worms will often stretch out their necks in irregular manners for no reasons, this is another indication that the poultry birds are infested.

If you notice two or three signs of the above 9 signs listed, you should understand immediately that your birds/livestocks needs to be dewormed immediately.

Best Practices to prevent worm infestation in your farm,

Poultry birds often pick up worms from dirty litters, so ensure to have clean and dry litters always.

Regularly deworm your birds by having and following a good medication schedule.

Never allow your birds to walk out of their cages or pen to prevent them from eating dirt that can cause worm infestation.

Use Kepromec Or Piperazine to deworm your birds always.

Agriculture / All You Should Know About The Profitable And Disease Resistant Brahma Brds. by samae(m): 1:05pm On Aug 28, 2022
LOOKING FOR A POULTRY BIRD MORE PROFITABLE THAN BROILERS AND MORE RESISTANT TO DISEASES THAN NOILERS ? TRY BRAHMAS.

Just Like how NOILERS are raised for Meat and egg laying, Brahmas are also raised for similar purposes, it’s just that after raising them they are sold at higher prices than broilers and NOILERS.

Brahma birds are naturally slow growers... It takes two years to have a fully grown one however they start laying when they are six to seven months. So waiting for this long while feeding them cost more and therefore it will be more expensive when selling them.

Another reason for the high price of brahma chickens is the fact that they are foreign, and were shipped from another country. And you know anything imported is always expensive not to now talk of live birds

Brahmas are not only raised so that they can be sold at higher prices later but they are also raised for Meat, Egg Production, and also for reproducing new-day-old chicks.

Brahmas because of their unique feathers and different colors are also raised for Beautification and ornament purposes by the rich that can afford it.

Brahmas dont need to be too cared for like Broiler or other birds, as long as they were well-taken care of during their day olds, after they cross 12 weeks medication can be stopped for them and they will be just fine and won’t see any mortality among them.
Buy when buying brahma chicks you need to watch out because people can easily sell cross-breed to you without you noticing it. If you are truly going to do a decent brahma rearing business you would need pure breed... The pure breed speaks and sells itself well.
Because it's always easy to differentiate the pure brahma breed from the crossbreed.

*And so if you need to set up an exotic livestock Farm with the pure breed of stock or you wish to buy some brahma birds call or what's app Abstho Exotic on *0912 483 5715*

Agriculture / The 6steps Poultry Farmers Use To Market And Sell Off Their Poultry Birds. by samae(m): 7:01pm On Aug 26, 2022
After Raising Your Broilers You Should Follow This 6Steps Poultry Farmers Use To Market And Sell Off Their Poultry Birds.

AFTER RAISING YOUR BROILERS YOU SHOULD FOLLOW THIS 6STEPS POULTRY FARMERS USE TO MARKET AND SELL OFF THEIR POULTRY BIRDS.

The ultimate goal of every poultry farmer is to make great sales at each harvest but unfortunately, a lot of poultry farmers get stuck at this point. Some of us here spend months raising and feeding birds; and when it’s time to sell, we don’t achieve much results.

Not because there is a shortage of demand for your eggs or meat; but because you have not really paid attention to the sales and marketing aspects of your business. As a poultry farmer, you should
not be too caught up with the operational aspects of your business so much that you now neglect
the sales aspect.

If you ask me, I would say that the sales and marketing aspect is even more
important after all, you are not rearing chickens for family consumption. If you are into poultry
farming to earn profits, then you must pay attention to the marketing aspects of this business.

*1. Take your business online*

Everybody hangs around the internet these days. A large percentage of people make use of the internet around the world daily and if you want your business to thrive, you cannot close your eyes to the internet.

*2. Bypassing the middlemen*

Some of us here rely on middlemen to help sell their products. Most farmers sell in bulk to other people who in turn sell to the consumers. If you want to sell faster, then you should sell both in wholesale quantities and retail quantities. You can sell in retail quantities if you have your own
sales outlet. Look for a good location to rent a store and then use it to stock eggs and chicken
meat from your farm.

*3. Become a supplier to Hotels, Fast food and Restaurants*

Offer to be their major supplier of eggs and chicken meat.
Hotels and restaurants always have foods with eggs or chicken on their menu and they have to
get their eggs and chicken meat from somewhere.
You can help them to have access to a regular supply of fresh eggs and chicken without stress. Note that a lot of hotels, fast foods and restaurants already have people supplying them, so you should think of how to outsmart these people by offering mouth-watering offers.

*4 Employ Marketers To Help You create awareness for your birds and eggs

5 *Have your own Abattoir*
Don’t just stop at selling to other companies to package; nothing stops you from having your
own abattoir too where you can package and brand your own products for sales and supply.
Carry out marketing research

*6 Try home delivery services*
Home delivery services work too. This is because a lot of people are often too busy to make
trips to the market and then a lot of people love their eggs and meat fresh. You can take
advantage of this to offer home delivery services to people who prefer to buy fresh eggs or
people who find it easier to order for stuffs from the comfort of their home.

Agriculture / 20 Things To Avoid When Vaccinating Your Birds To Prevent Vaccine Failure by samae(m): 4:25pm On Aug 26, 2022
20 TIPS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO PREVENT VACCINE FAILURE BEFORE VACCINATING YOUR BIRDS

1)Always Purchase vaccines from reliable and reputable vet stores with adequate refrigeration facilities.

2)Transport the vaccine in a cooler or flask from the vet shops.and always add ice block to the cooler of your vaccine.

3)Check the vaccine’s expiration date

4)Don’t vaccinate sick birds

5)Don’t use chemicals or detergent to wash the equipment and drinkers that are
to be used for the vaccination exercise.
Because the residue chemicals can
render the vaccine inactive.

6)Boil the water you will use to dilute the vaccine the night to the vaccination
day.

7)Use boil water to sterilize drinkers before use.

coolVaccines administered via water should be opened under the water into which
it is to be mixed.
This is because vaccines are normally vacuum sealed. When
opened in the air, it may draw contaminated air into the container or the vial.

9)If possible deworm your birds a week before vaccination exercise

10)Never mix two vaccines.

11)Do not vaccinate under high temperature

12)Do not expose vaccines to direct sunlight

13)For the administration of the correct dose, always know the actual water consumption you will use before the vaccination day.

14)Discontinue and stop the use of any medication 48 hours before carrying out
vaccination

15)Share the vaccines in a smaller quantity of water before sharing with other drinkers.

16)Use only skimmed milk for vaccines. Avoid using powder milk during vaccination.

17)Note: the higher the skimmed milk concentration, the better the suspension of the vaccine in the water.

18)After adding the skimmed milk, wait 10 minutes for complete chlorine neutralization before opening the vail of the vaccine under the surface of the water.

19)Leftover vaccines must be buried.

20)Use medical hand gloves when working with vaccines.

Agriculture / Right Feeding Schedule For Your Broilers That Prevents Feed Wastage by samae(m): 6:11pm On Aug 24, 2022
The Right Feeding Consumption For Your Broilers That Prevents Feed Wastage And Also Reduces High Cost Of Feeding.

the expenses that goes to feeding in poultry farming alone covers 75% of the total amount you be spent.

You need to know how to accurately calculate the amount of feed needed by your birds so as to prevent underfeeding or food rationing your birds.

You need to know the accurate quantity to feed your birds daily that will both maintain their health and add to their weight.

0-11days -My 50 birds should feed on half A Bag from day old till they are 10days old.

11- 23days your 50birds should feed on 2bags from their 11th till they are 23days old

23 to 42days - My 50 birds feeds on 5bags from their 23days old till when they are 42days

*Tips For Feeding Broilers*
As a general rule, it takes about 2kg of feed to produce 1kg of flesh in broilers From day 1 to 4 weeks, use a broiler starter or super starter, the quantity of feed to supply depends majorly on the target weight and the age at slaughter. For a broiler farmer that intends to sell his stock 2kg body weight at 6 weeks of age, 4Kg - 4.5kg of feed per bird is required.

For BROILERS, feed them based on how fast you want them to grow. maximize your feed but don’t starve your birds as this would amount to losses because the more your birds lose weight, the more money you are losing, To maximize profit in broiler production, no broiler should be kept beyond 8 weeks to ensure maximum profit.

some birds naturally tends to eat more than others and this is the reason while you have to sort and grad your broilers when they are at 2weeks so that those eating more than the others will be separated, to make sure they all eat well.

Separate the big broilers (those eating more) in one part of the housing from the slow eaters. And feed them separately using the same feed quantity.

One thing I have always noticed is that day-old chick doesn’t eat much up to about 2 weeks of age. However, you must be ready for the increase in consumption from the third week.

Only feed twice per day Feed them twice per day (7:00 am and 3:00 pm) respectively and stick to this
feeding schedule.

the first 7-20days of broiler life, If you don't give quality feeding during these days you have missed it and your birds may not give you better weight again

While every day in the life of a broiler chicken is important to their growth and overall wellness, the first 5 days can make or mar the life of your chicks. In other words, what you do or fail to do in the first five days can impact your chicks throughout the rearing season, be it 6 weeks or more. So, it is important
that you pay close attention to your chicks and give them the necessary attention needed to give them a good start.

Avoid starving your chicks! Don’t send for your day-old chicks, if you don’t have money to raise them already. From the moment your DOCs arrive, you must ensure to give them highly nutritious feed, usually broiler starter.

To get the best result after receiving your day old chicks, your broiler chicks should be fed at least 23/24 hours everyday for the first week, This means that they need light even at night.

ALL BROILERS ARE NOT THE SAME, ONE IS MORE SUITABLE TO SELL AT 4WEEKS, ONE IS STRONGER AGAINST COLD, ONE IS STRONGER AGAINST HEAT AND ONE GROWS TALLER THAN OTHERS.

THERE ARE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT JUST BUY ANY BROILERS BREED BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE BUYING IT. PEOPLE BUY BROILERS BASED ON DIFFERENT REASONS. SOME BUY BIRDS THAT GROWS FASTER AND SELL THEM OFF FOR 4WEEKS, SOME BUY OTHER TYPE OF BROILER BREED BECAUSE THEY GROW TALLER AND ARE EASIER TO SELL OFF. SOME BUY BROILERS BASED ON THE TYPE OF TEMPERATURE AND WEATHER CONDITIONS BECAUSE THERE ARE BROILERS THAT ARE STRONGER AGAINST COLD AND SOME ARE STRONGER AGAINST HEAT.

Am going to be talking about the 4 best types of broiler breed we have in Nigeria and the hatchery that produces them, the advantages they have over themselves and you get to know which you should go for when you are ready to start poultry farming.

The 4 best Broilers are
1)ROSS 308.
2)COBB 500.
3)ARBOR ACRE.
4)MARSHALL.

1)ROSS 308.
The Ross 308, they don't grow very tall and are always short but very fat, they can withstand cold but they hate heat.Ross 308 grows faster than other broilers breed. They have a good conversion ratio and are more suitable to be raised for 4-6weeks and then sell them off. they can weigh up to 2.5kg at 5WEEKS of age. The hatcheries that produce them include SAYED AND AGRITED HATCHERY.

2)COBB 500.
Not as fast-growing as the Ross 308, but they grow taller than Ross 308. They can’t withstand cold and often sneeze and contact chronic respiratory diseases(CRD) easily even when they are still a day old chick. They are also strongly resistant to heat more than Ross 308. And more agile and resistant to diseases.
Hatcheries that produce COBB 500 include ZARTECH, OLAM, CASCADA, AND NPG.

3)ARBOR ACRE.
They are more similar to Ross 308 and can weigh up to 2.7kg At 6 weeks of age, they have an average daily weight gain of 93 g and an average daily weight gain of 79g at 8 weeks of age under good conditions. They are also more resistant to diseases.
Hatcheries that produce ARBOR ACRE ARE AMO, CHI, AND FIDAN.

4)MARSHALL
The only disadvantage is that Marshall doesn’t grow up fast like the other breeds do but they are the broilers that grow the tallest among the broilers breed. And they are more required during the celebration period because of their physical appearance. They can stay up to 12 weeks before you can start marketing to sell them.

I will be informing you more about the different types of broiler breeds and the ones more suitable for you to raise to get the best results in my Facebook Group.

Agriculture / 16 Steps To Take When Brooding Broilers To Reduce Loss & Mortality by samae(m): 6:15am On Aug 23, 2022
16 STEPS FARMERS TAKE IN BROODING DAY OLD CHICKS TO ENSURE THEIR BIRDS HAVE HIGH SURVIVAL RATE.

1)Upon chicks’ arrival, do the unboxing exercise as quickly as possible, count them and dip each chick’s beak into a waterer to be sure that it gets a drink.

2)While you are unboxing, check for deformed chicks and those with an unhealed navel. Treat them to prevent omphalitis.

3)Check for underweight chicks and separate them from the rest. They might end up being runts. Separating them will allow you to manage them properly, thus, giving them a better chance of survival.

4)Vaccinate them against Newcastle and Marek's diseases if they hasn’t been done at the hatchery.

5)Lunch them into their new environment and Observe the chicks closely and see how they respond to the heat.

6)The chicks’ behavior will tell you whether the brooder temperature is correct. If they huddle close to the heat source, it is too cold; if they crowd the brooder guard or crowd at angle 90 degrees of the space you put them. It is too hot! If they are evenly dispersed, you got the heating right.

7)Check the distribution of the chicks often for the first 2 weeks, and see that they have feed and water even at night. Watch the chicks every 30 minutes continuously for the first few days. If any is ill, remove such.

coolThe first few days, chicks will pick at anything; they cannot tell a feeding area from the rest of the floor, so it is wise to have feed scattered over a large area. Put newspaper or cut cardboard boxes down on the floor and scatter feed on them to supplement the chick-sized feeders.

9)During the brooding stage, chicks will eat through the night since light is available continuously. They should never be without feed for more than 30 minutes at a time (the same is true for mature birds during daylight).

10)Spend time every day just observing the flock. As they grow, see if they are all about the same size and are putting out feathers at about the same rate.If so, the chicks probably are healthy, from good stock, and receiving a good feed. Watch for any inactive chicks. Those that standstill for more than 10 minutes are most likely sick.

11)On the third day, allow the chicks to finish the feed in the feeders. From then on, fill the feeders half full. If chicks are eating well, remove the paper or cardboard.

12)For the rest of the chickens’ lives, completely change their water every day at dawn and in the early afternoon, rinsing the waterers out as you do so. Chickens should have water available at all times.

Agriculture / 7 Poultry Farming Must Obeys Rules For New & Practicing Poultry Farmers. by samae(m): 9:21pm On Aug 20, 2022
DO YOU HAVE PASSION FOR POULTRY AND REALLY WANT TO STAY LONG MAKING GOOD PROFITS IN FARMING BUSINESS? TAKE NOTE OF THESE 7 MUST KNOW RULES ABOUT POULTRY FARMING.

1)Only order for birds you can conveniently take care of".
Instead of stocking 500 birds and then struggle to feed them or give them medication, buy 200 chicks ,feed and give them good medication.

You'll make more profit than keeping 500 and struggling to feed and give the medication.

(2)Never borrow money to start poultry business unless you are an expert".

Of course, there is no expert in poultry business. In fact, we learn every day. Every stock you take in will always teach you something different. However, after learning from all the different characteristics displayed by each stock, you get to know more and won't be excited when challenges come. You'll know how to handle them without much damage.

(3) Been vigilant To birds.

The little things you don't take as anything matters.
If you want to succeed in poultry, you must take it as a real business.
Don't just open your Pen and start rushing to give your birds feed and water and rush out again. Check around. Watch how they behave when you came in. Check what fell and what is no longer in its place.

(4)Never ignore warning signals of sickness or diseases outbreak.

Warning signs includes,
1.Bad smell
2.Withdrawal from feed
3.Moodiness
4.Withdrawal from water

There are numerous warning signals, A farmer must know how his birds behaves when they see him enter in the morning. How do they behave when he serves them feed.

(5) Do not change the feeds your birds are used to anyhow.
When farmers talk about changing feed from this to this and that then this all in the name of getting a better result, I'm always scared for them.

Whether you are changing from a bad feed to a good one, you must be very careful.

Do you know every change in feed affects your bird negatively first before gradually bringing in the results you don't desire? Most of the time, you may suffer withdrawal, coccidiosis, feed wastage, stress, and more.

6)Never let your birds run out of water always make sure cool, fresh water is readily made available.

Have you heard of heat stress? If it has happened to your birds then you'll understand what I'm saying.

Heat stress can wipe your entire flock. And it may leave your birds vulnerable to all kinds of infection as their immune system gets weakened and may take more than 14 days to fully recover.
Your birds can survive 48 hours without a feed but they can't survive 7 hours without water.
Instead of running out of water, please, run out of feed.

7)If you can't drink that water, don't give it to your birds".
Some farmers take chickens as they are just animals and nothing matters. Maybe they've forgotten they are dealing with delicate live animals.

In fact 70% of poultry diseases which includes coccidiosis, Fowl pox, fowl cholera, Crd and the rest are always associated with dirty sources of drinking water given to poultry birds.

Agriculture / 16 Steps To Take After The Arrival Of Your Day Old Chicks To Prevent Mortality by samae(m): 9:13pm On Aug 20, 2022
16 NEXT STEPS TO TAKE AFTER THE ARRIVAL OF YOUR DAY OLD CHICKS, TO ACHIEVE LITTLE OR ZERO MORTALITY.

4) Vaccinate them against Newcastle and Marek's diseases if they hasn’t been done at the hatchery.

13)On the fourth day, begin looking for signs of coccidiosis. If there is a serious outbreak, take immediate action. Be alert for coccidiosis until the flock is at least 12 weeks old. On the sixth day, be sure that there is evenly disperse grit (stone particles) in the feeders to supplement the ones in the commercial feed.

14)On the seventh day, the 1st Lasota vaccination is recommended.

15)On the twenty-first day, provide larger feeders.

16)On the eighty-fourth day, increase feed and water space. Begin a lighting
program, if appropriate.

Agriculture / How To Calculate The Bags Of Feed Needed To Raise 100 Christmas Broilers. by samae(m): 4:26pm On Aug 13, 2022

Therefore; the total number of which is 800Kg divided by 25kg
=32 bags of feeds.

Agriculture / 9 Factors To Consider When Choosing The Feed Type And Drugs To Use For Your Bird by samae(m): 7:15pm On Aug 11, 2022
9 Factors To Consider When Choosing the Feed type and drugs to use for your birds.

1)Economic Factors: Is the feed more or less expensive & and is the energy and protein content of the feed equal to the requirements for the fast growth of my birds?

2)Logistics: Will there be a reliable supply of the feed in my area or I will have to travel far to get it when the feed finishes at farm?

3) Knowledge: Is there enough knowledge on how to use the drugs you buy from the vet or from the vet shop attendants?.

4)Will there be an equal quality replacement just incase this feed or drug finishes and it's not available for me to buy? Will I get another suitable replacement for it
.
5).Can I buy the feeds and drugs in large quantities for my birds to use for along time? How much does the quality of the feeds and drugs decreases with time?

6)Testimony From Other Farmers Who Have Used Them Before?
What are the reviews about the drugs and feeds you are about to buy from those that have used them before? If the reviews are bad don't go for it and if it's good you can then go it..

7)Be sure the manufacturer of the feeds produce feeds for birds of different weeks and for different type of birds.
You know we have different types of feeds, which are starter feed, grower feeds, finisher feed and layer mash feeds.
You feed starter to birds of 0-4weeks old.
You feed finisher feed to birds that are 4weeks old and above.
Grower feed are for noilers Cockerels,Turkey and also for layers that are between 8-16weeks old. I don't advice farmers to use Grower feed for broilers because it's not economical wise to do so.

Be sure the manufacturer produces all of this before you go for it.
coolThe type of feed you use should contain anticoccidals and antibiotics in little quantity.

9) Use Pelletized Feeds To Minimize Food Wastage By The Birds.
Also Don’t forget that what you give your birds to eat, its what you will get out. Avoid feeds from dropping on the floor while serving them because any drop wasted will affect the daily ration requirements of your birds.

Agriculture / How To Set The Right Selling Price For Your Broilers To Prevent Making A Loss by samae(m): 7:07pm On Aug 11, 2022
HOW TO SET SELLING PRICE FOR YOUR BROILERS TO PREVENT MAKING A LOSS

Don't just sell because you saw money in your customer's hand. Don't sell if the negotiation price is below your cost of production.
Don't start selling your birds any how because the money you budgeted for their feed is finished. Always budget their money for feeding even before buying day old chicks and also don't buy more chicks than the budgeted money for feeding can handle or reach, always try to exercise patience in business or you may run at loss.

Ensure you have at least 70% of the feed money and you are sure of the source for the remaining
30% before you book for birds. You don't want to feed ur birds for few weeks, then you start managing feed thereby making the birds to reduce in weight, you may not make enough profit when you start selling off your birds due to reduced weight.

Never ration or reduce poultry feeds for your birds.
The disadvantage of doing such is always bad, Only stock the quantity of birds your capital can currently handle, then you can scale later.

For a worker deserve his pay.
In marketing of broilers, the
formula for sales is:

Total cost of production or the total money it coated you to raise your birds divided by the total number of birds alive at the point of sales.

For example let's say your total cost of production to raise 100birds for 9weeks = #256,000.

Total number of birds alive at the end of production is = 100.

CALCULATE YOUR SELLING PRICE LIKE THIS
For example : : 256,000 / 100 = 2,560.

Cost of production for each bird is N2,560 for 3months

You can add any profit amount you want to it but let's say you are adding 1,000 as your profits per birds.

Which means #3,560 for each bird but Extremely big bird can go for as high as 5,000( extra profit) to cover up for the ones that are stunted.

When you add your cost of cost of production plus your profit your selling price per bird should be atleast #3560

Total profits you should make per bird should be atleast 100birds x #1,000 profits= N100,000.

Agriculture / *what You Should Know About The Different Ingredients In The 3 Types Of Feeds by samae(m): 6:59pm On Aug 11, 2022
*WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE DIFFERENT INGREDIENTS IN STARTER, GROWER, FINISHER, AND LAYER FEED AND TIPS ABOUT FEED FORMULATION.*

Every Good Poultry feed must be highly nutritious, and supply good energy for the birds. Farmers must also ensure adequate and quality feeding and not ration feeds for the birds. Never ration or reduce poultry feed for your birds. The disadvantages of doing this are always bad. But to prevent rationing only raise and stock the number of birds you are capable of raising.
The highly nutritious feed gives energy and without adequate and quality feeding you can't run your poultry business successfully.

.
Broilers Feed Formulation.
Broilers why at day old requires more protein to develop their feathers, bone, ligament, and muscles. That's why feed that must be given to them while they are still young must contain more protein than carbohydrates. For example ingredients such as Full fat soya, soya beans, fishmeal, bone meal, and Groundnut cake must be in their feed Formulation to provide the required amount of protein needed by the birds. A good Starter feed must contain between 22-24% of Crude protein.

But As Broilers grow their Energy Requirement increases and their protein level reduces. That is why Finisher Feed can be given to them from their 5TH Week. Finisher feed contains more maize and energy ingredients to provide more energy for the Broilers and maintain their body weights. Finisher feed contains at least 18% of Crude Protein.

Grower Feeds
The nutritional composition of grower feed is not for broilers as it doesn't support weight gain, because most of the ingredients it contains do not have much protein in them to support fast growth. the feed given to them should only be adding more fat and weight to them. And grower does not contain those ingredients that enable Broilers to add weight fast.
Feeding them with growers is mismanaging their feeding.
Grower feed is formulated for layers because they are not meant for meat but for egg production and it is to be fed to pullets from 6 weeks until they start to lay, and also layers don't need much protein to carry out their daily activities until they start laying eggs.
Grower feeds must contain PKC, wheat offal, maize, and soya beans among other ingredients.
Grower feed contains 16% Crude Protein.
Grower is best fed and given to long-time birds for example turkeys, layers, and noiler.

Layer Feed Formulation.
Layer feed must contain all the needed Ingredients for laying birds to lay well and stay strong. Layers at 18 weeks above require calcium, vitamins, and minerals to lay eggs every day. The reason is that it's the nutrients gotten from the feed that will transfer to the eggs. That is why immediately after a few of your layers start laying eggs, you must switch them to layer feed or else if they continue laying eggs without you giving them layers feed. They will use the nutrients and calcium of their own body and this may cause paralysis, and loss of weight and they will also lay small eggs. Layers Feed must contain at least 18% of Crude Protein.
Every Good Layers Feed must contain Maize, soya beans, fish meal, layer premix, methionine, Threonine, and tryptophan toxin binder, The feed should contain calcium (limestone) for the formation of eggshells (laying hens that do not get enough calcium will use the calcium stored in their bone tissue to produce eggshells).
