Politics / I’ll Ban Importation Ofrice, Tomato –buhari by samdwaplord(m): 11:42am On Feb 03, 2015
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Buhari (retd), on Monday said if elected on February 14, he would ban the importation of basic items like rice and tomato in order to enhance local production of the products.

He also said his administration would focus on agriculture, mining, infrastructure and job provision at the top of its economic agenda.

Buhari, who gave a summary of how he intended to revive the economy in a meeting with the Organised Private Sector in Lagos, said his government would place emphasis on three key issues of security, tackling corruption and reviving the ailing economy.

The meeting, which had all the key members of the APC in attendance, was hosted by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.

“How can Nigeria be importing virtually everything? How can we be importing even tomatoes? If I am elected, basic items like rice and tomatoes, which we have the capacity to produce, will be banned from being imported,” Buhari said.

The APC presidential candidate said his commitment to the Nigerian people would be governed by the highest consideration for how his policies would create jobs.

He also said he would focus on the provision of infrastructure such as power and roads.

Buhari, who said he agreed with the current administration on the privatisation of the power utilities, however, said there would be a need to also privatise the transmission segment.

According to him, the privatisation of the power sector has yet to achieve the desired result because after the handing over of the assets to private investors, the hard work to connect the various parts of the power chain, supply gas, install transformers and complete substations has not been done.

He added, “Our studies show that we will require no less than 200,000 trained personnel to support the initiative to provide power and light up Nigeria.

“Apart from the inherent direct employment that this will give, the reduction in the cost of production, the savings from self-generation by Nigerians, who currently spend a lot of their income on purchase of diesel and petrol to generate their own electricity, will reduce the burden on their disposable income.”

An existing plan to build a refinery in Lagos will be supported by the Federal Government, according to Buhari.

Another area of infrastructure investment that will receive attention, according to him, is road and highway construction from one end of the country to the other.

He said his administration would concentrate on roads and highways that linked the states, while state governments would be expected to connect their respective areas to the highways.

Buhari said, “Road construction alone will unlock value chain of opportunities for construction companies, builders, engineers, architects, quarry operators, cement and iron rod producers and suppliers.

“The successful opening up of Nigeria by the construction of new roads and highways will revive road transport, truck manufacture, tyre manufacture as well as engine oil and brake pad production on one hand. It will also create a demand for job for mechanics, drivers and those engaged in transport support businesses.

“We expect a revival of all the interstate economies to thrive across Nigeria, providing support to travellers by way of canteens, restaurants, farm produce etc.”

He, however, said because corruption was affecting the performance of the economy, he would tackle it headlong if elected into office.

According to him, the alleged $20bn missing crude oil proceeds, which was estimated to be equal to about N4.2tn, were nearly a year’s budget.

He said with N5m per vehicle, the amount could provide 840,000 patrol vehicles to help improve on the security of towns and villages across the country.

The APC presidential candidate also noted that the amount could provide 311,000 buses that could revolutionise the transport sector of the economy.

He said, “If the average cost of generating one megawatt of power is about $1.5m (excluding gas and distribution costs), $20bn would have brought us over 13,333MW of power. What a difference that will

Food / » For Men Only!! Three Food to Eat To Make Your P*nis grow Bigger by samdwaplord(m): 1:18pm On Jan 15, 2015
Hey guys its time to get the p*nis on the groove, you definitely have to impress her this year so she doesn’t dump you like a piece of thrash, anyway this is not meant for the female audience but incase u peeped through this don’t forget to show your man..  see tips below;

1. Bananas – Studies have suggested that men who successfully gain inches usually have healthy hearts. It has also shown that the potassium found in bananas aids in the health of the heart health and also helps one with proper blood circulation. With this good circulation of blood and a healthy heart, it makes p*nis growth achievable. Eating bananas will also help keep the body’s sodium level low which aids in the prevention of heart diseases and other related heart problems.

2. Salmon – This fish is rich in essential fatty oils such as omega and helps in developing the p*nis fast. These healthy fatty oils helps in the thinning of the blood (lower viscosity), which in turn aids in the circulation of blood around the body. Research has shown having a healthy blood flow is one of the main factors in achieving stronger, stiffer erections.

3. Onions – Well, many do not know but many of today’s top researchers believe that onions are also an essential food for healthy circulation of the blood. Politics / I’m Ready To Die For Nigeria —obasanjo by samdwaplord(m): 6:24am On Jan 09, 2015
A former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has said he can sacrifice his life in the interest of Nigeria. However, he said he would not do the same for any political party.

He said this on Thursday during a visit to his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta by the presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party, Dr. Martins Onovo.

He said since he left office his pre-occupation had been the promotion of the country’s interest, adding that it would be foolish for anyone to say Nigeria did not belong to anybody.

He said, “My first pre-occupation is what is best for Nigeria. Nigeria first, party second and any other thing, third. I can sacrifice anything in the interest of Nigeria and I can sacrifice my own life for Nigeria.

“I can’t sacrifice my life for any party’s interest but I’ll sacrifice my life in the interest of Nigeria.”

He frowned on the situation where everyone would keep quiet and watch things degenerate in the country.

While commending the late legal icon, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, the founder of the NCP, he said though some people might not agree with his brand of activism, he was a veritable voice of conscience.

He said, “Let me hasten to wish you every success in your endeavour and also pay tribute, as I have done in my recent book, to the founder of your party, Gani Fawehinmi. I believe he was a genuine social critic. Though you may not agree with all he said or how he went about it but he was definitely a genuine social critic.

“So if you, as the flag bearer of the party, believed that you should follow on his footsteps of integrity and genuine critical and committed analysis and criticism of the situation in the country, I think nobody will fault you.”

He advised the party to accept whatever was the outcome of the election, if the election was free, fair and uninterrupted. He said that people should not necessarily be in government before they could contribute to the nation’s development.

He said, “In this part of the world, we have a saying that if people sleep and they put their heads on the same pillow, they are in danger. That means there should be some people that should be critically looking and watching and also able to speak up. They should speak up, no matter what others may say.

“Because people may come up and say Nigeria doesn’t belong to anybody, I believe that is a stupid saying. Nigeria belongs to all of us because anything that doesn’t belong to anybody, anything can happen to it. For me, Nigeria belongs to all of us and we are stakeholders in this country.

“Let me make my own position clear, I am a card carrying member of the PDP, because that is the party on which platform I became the President of this country.

“If what you’re trying to do is in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians accept and vote for you, who I am I not to accept you as President of Nigeria, I will. But in this your campaign, try to inform, woo and to convince the electorates but whatever may be the outcome of the election after you have done all that, once the election is free and fair and undisturbed, uninterrupted, then you have to accept the verdict of the people.”

Onovo said his government, if voted, would continue with the developmental initiative of the former President.

He said, “Our programme is designed to lead to the abolition of poverty through full employment, improve health care and electricity supply and energy which are very critical to industrial development.

“We are very aware that you did very few critical things in government when you were there and some of those we wish to continue when we get to office, particularly the anti-corruption efforts, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, we intend to continue.

“We intend, when we get elected with your guidance,ý to your effectiveness, to check the loss in national revenue so that we have funds to carry out the developmental programmes we’ve

Politics / » Car Bomb Kills 31 People outside Yemen Police college by samdwaplord(m): 2:09pm On Jan 07, 2015
A car bomb reportedly exploded outside a Yemeni police college in Sanaa on Wednesday, killing not less than 31 people and wounding many others, an incidence coming less than a week after a devastating suicide bombing south of the capital. Reuters reports:

Yemen’s sectarian conflict has worsened since September when the Shi’ite Muslim Houthi militia seized Sanaa, in the latest upheaval following the country’s 2011 popular uprising which led to a change of government and splits in the army.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), one of the Sunni militant group’s most active wings, had staged increasing numbers of attacks across Yemen before the Houthi advance and has carried out more bombings and shootings since.

The health ministry said 64 people were wounded by the powerful explosion which sent a large plume of smoke into the sky above a heavily congested part of the city near the central bank and defense ministry.

“The situation is catastrophic. We arrived to find bodies piled on top of each other,” a paramedic at the scene Reuters as ambulances took casualties away. “We found the top part of one person yelling, while his bottom half was completely severed.”

Politics / Dickson Sacks Patiencejonathan’s Allies by samdwaplord(m): 6:44am On Jan 06, 2015
Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has sacked the Commissioner for Local Government Administration, Marie Ebikake, and his Special Adviser on Special Projects, Remmy Kuku.

Ebikake and Kuku, it was learnt, were allegedly   fired because of their closeness to the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.

There has been no love lost between Dickson and Patience over the latter’s alleged interference in the affairs of the state and   plan to hijack the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party from the former.

The sack of the two aides, which is with immediate effect, is contained     in a special announcement on Monday   by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

The governor had in March 2014 sacked seven commissioners in a major cabinet shake-up since his administration came on board in February 2012.

Those affected then were the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Francis Egele; the Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Ayakeme Massa; and the Commissioner for Health, Anapurere Awoli.

Others were Nelson Belief, Tourism Development; Gesiye Isowo, Special Duties (Federal Projects); Parkinson Macmanuel, Science, Technology and Manpower Development; and Sylvanus Abila,   Environment.

It will be recalled that it was during that   exercise that Ebikake, who has now been removed, was redeployed from the Ministry of Transport to Local Government Administration.

The statement said the governor’s action was in line with his policy of re-organising the machinery of government to deliver on Dickson’s restoration agenda.

It also announced that Dickson had ordered the immediate deployment of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Markson Fefegha, as his new Principal Executive Secretary.

The statement thanked Ebikake and Kuku for their services to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.

Meanwhile, Dickson has approved the depoloyment of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Yenagoa, Didi Walson-Jack, to the Federal Civil Service, after three years of service in his government.

A statement on Monday by Iworiso-Markson said Dickson expressed appreciation to Walson-Jack for her commitment and devotion to duty in the various capacities she served during her secondment.

Politics / » N21.8bn Not For Jonathan’scampaign Alone – Gana by samdwaplord(m): 6:28am On Jan 06, 2015

A former Minister for Information and the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Fund-raising Committee, Prof. Jerry Gana, has said the N21.8bn donated to the PDP at a recent fund-raising in Abuja is not meant for the presidential campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan alone.

The donation, which came even from governors of the party who have not been able to pay salaries of civil servants in their states, had received condemnation across the country.

The main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress and eminent individuals in the country, including Seniors Advocates of Nigeria, had condemned the action, saying it was an infraction on the 2010 Electoral Act.

But addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, Gana said that the abandoned site of the party’s permanent headquarters would also benefit from the money.

Gana spoke at the party’s permanent site located at the Central Area of Abuja.

He said the purpose of the fund-raising was also to raise money for the completion of the party permanent site and not for Presidential campaign alone.

Gana said, “This administration of the party resolved that we must complete this project so that we can move here and so part of the preparations for this year’s campaign is for us to raise funds and I had the honour of leading a very distinguished team of Nigerians to prepare for the fund raising.

“We raised about N21bn on that day and the purpose of this press conference is to say that right from the start, we were raising money for the PDP and the projects of the party. The documents and letters said so, the speeches confirmed it during the day of the fund raising. In my own speech and the speech of the Vice President (Namadi Sambo), who happens to be an architect, showed that there was a specific focus on this building that this is one project we want to complete.

“The Vice-President, being an architect, gave graphic details of where we were on this project and how we desired to go ahead and therefore, the central aim of the fund-raising is to empower the party to complete this building and other projects.

“The second is of course, to empower the party to campaign for its candidates, not for the President alone but for others and the Presidential candidate has the right to raise fund for his campaign quietly.

“I am not the chairman of that fund raising team but I am sure the President will appoint somebody and I am sure they are already working hard and being a humble Nigerian, he wants to do it quietly and people will donate to him, people who believe in his candidature of the PDP.

“So, we want to make it clear that the money raised was for the PDP and a substantial part of it will be for the completion of this building.”

He said that N10bn was needed for the completion of the party’s permanent site.

On whether the party and President Jonathan would have the moral justification to visit the North-East for campaign when neither the President nor the party leadership had not visited the zone over security challenges facing the area, Gana said yes.

He said, “We are going to campaign in Maiduguri, Damaturu, everywhere.

“But the issue is capacity. This is a party with capacity, others have scattered long ago.

“The PDP remains focused since 1999 and we have never changed. People will go for experience, they will go for capacity.”

Politics / Obasanjo Meets Womenleaders, Blasts Jonathan by samdwaplord(m): 6:13am On Jan 06, 2015
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo   has said the country is currently facing economic problems due to the failure of the Goodluck Jonathan administration to plan for a rainy day.

He told Iyalodes and eminent women leaders   from the South-West, who visited him at his   Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, that the nation’s reserves which as of 2007 stood at $67bn had been depleted by the Federal Government.

The former President was responding to a call by the delegation led by the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Alaba Lawson, and the Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Chief Folashade Tinubu-Ojo,   to   lend his voice to the socio-economic crisis rocking the country.

Stressing that the country did not deserve the situation it currently finds itself, Obasanjo vowed that he would not keep quiet until the right things were done.

He said, “When I was leaving office about eight years ago, I left a very huge reserve after we had paid all our debts.

“Almost $25bn we kept in what they called Excess Crude Account, it was the excess from the budget we were saving as reserve for a rainy day.

“When we left in May 2007, the reserve was said to have risen to $35bn. But today, that reserve has been depleted.

“After paying our debts which was about $40bn,   including debt forgiveness, the   remaining (debt) was not more than $3bn.

“Our reserves after we had paid off these debts amounted to about $45bn. As I said, they continued to rise till the end of 2007. I heard that the reserves increased to almost $67bn before the end of the year.

“Our reserves now, I learnt, stand at only $30bn.”

Although he noted that the slump in oil price would naturally have a negative impact on a monolithic economy like Nigeria, Obasanjo said that “ anyone who is wise enough should know that since we depend on just one mineral resource and since we have no control over its pricing, we should be planning for this type of situation we currently find ourselves   and the way out of it.”

The former President lamented that “our inability to have healthy reserves had brought us to “this economic quagmire.”

He added, “A leader must be forward-looking and plan ahead. At the beginning of last year, the budget was based on $78 per barrel. That year, the Federal Government spent more on recurrent expenditure and a little on capital expenditure.”

Obasanjo   also pointed out that the devaluation of the naira had unleashed other consequences on the economy.

He said, “That (devaluation) is why the naira has been falling against the dollar. What would now happen? I learnt if you want to buy a dollar now, it’s about N192 or N195. What it means is this, what you had been buying for N150 to a dollar, now you need N192 or N195 to buy it.

“That is the real situation. Is there any remedy? There is but it does not come overnight because it means we have to give up all the bad things we had been doing.”

The Ogun State-born former Head of State also     berated   the leadership for robbing Nigeria of its God-ordained greatness.

He said,”God made Nigeria a great nation. Is it that those living here have no brain? Is it that the leaders are not thinking? Or that we don’t have the resources?

“When I was in the army, our slogan was, ‘There are no bad soldiers but bad officers.’ Wherever soldiers are not doing well, blame the officers. The same thing obtains in the family, communities, towns and the nation.

The former President, who also denied quarrelling with Jonathan, told the Iyalodes and eminent women leaders   that he was surprised to have read in a newspaper on Monday that some people in government were jittery on learning of their visit.

“Is (it) that Jonathan and I are not in good terms?, he asked and immediately provided an answer himself. He said, “There is nothing as such. I have no grudges against Jonathan and I think Jonathan equally has no grudges against me. I’m not quarrelling with Jonathan but all I know is that whatever is good for Nigeria, that I’m ready to die for.

“I emphasise that whatever is good for Nigeria, is what I’m ready to defend with my life. Whoever, I emphasise, whoever says he would not do anything good for Nigeria, even if he says he’s ready to go ‘koko bellow,’ I’m ready to square it up with such a person.

“I say again, whoever that person may be, I want you to get that correctly. If this country is going to change for the better, it must start from the top and if it’s going to be otherwise, it must start from the top too.

“I have had some little experience about this country. I was a Head of State and   a President; so what is left? If I talk, I know what I’m talking about. Whoever wants, should listen to me and whoever feels otherwise, may turn a deaf ear. But when I’m talking, I’m talking with my understanding and intellect.

“I’m drawing from my experience and from what I’ve learnt with others and from other countries and fellow eminent citizens of the world that I relate with.”

Obasanjo   frowned on the alleged impunity being perpetuated under the current administration, warning   leaders of the consequences of such actions.

He said,   “God   put you in a position for a purpose and if you fail, you will give account to God. It was Prophet Samuel that God sent to anoint Saul to be a king. When he misbehaved, it was the same God that sent Prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint another king.

“But when Samuel got to Jesse’s house, he was attracted by the physical and outward appearance of Eliab. But God told him, he was looking at outward appearance whereas He was looking at the heart. We must not keep quiet concerning this nation.”

On the general elections, Obasanjo said he had no apprehension, stressing that the country would survive just as it did   during crises such as   Operation wetie, the 1966 coup and the civil war.

He said, “The 1964 election led to Operation Wetie. I saw people being slaughtered . There were also the 1966 coup,   the 1966 progrom and the civil war. We survived them. Then, there was (Sani) Abacha period. We also we survived it.”

Operation wetie was the political crises that erupted in the defunct Western Region after the 1965 regional elections. It was characterised by the wetting of political opponents and their followers with petrol and setting them ablaze.

Obasanjo recalled that when he was about to contest the presidential election in 1999, he was told that it would end up like the botched polls by the Ibrahim Babangida and Abacha juntas.

“They said that Abubakar Abdulsalami was also out to deceive us. Some people said after me, there would be no Nigeria again; But, after me, there have been two presidents .The God we serve is God of Nigeria.”

On the solution to   unemployment in the country, he advised the government to turn to agriculture instead of laying emphasis on oil and gas.

He advised, “If we are going to solve unemployment problem, it is through agric business and not through oil and gas. We have no alternative.

“Agriculture is renewable because the land can be used over and over again, but, once you lift a barrel of oil, it is gone forever.’’

Obasanjo also advised the women and other Nigerians to vote for   candidates with good track records and not those making empty promises.

“Good governance starts with the selection and voting of good leaders. Don’t lose your votes. Ask questions. What are their track records? Pay less attention to what they are saying, look out for what they had done.”

On his membership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Obasanjo said, “I am still in the PDP , though not active. With the kind of people and behaviours I see in the party, I don’t think I can stand before God and defend them.”

Obasanjo had in an 18-page open letter to Jonathan in December 2013, accused   Jonathan of promoting deceit, corruption and mutual distrust ahead of national interest.

He said in the letter titled “Before it is too late” that in spite of his previous letters which were neither acknowledged nor responded to, he was again constrained to warn the President that dangers were lurking in the corner should he fail to heed his advice.

At the public presentation of a book by a former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other–Related Offences Commission, Justice Mustapha Akanbi(retd.) in Novemeber 2014,   Obasanjo again   accused Jonathan and the National Assembly of promoting corruption and poor governance in the country.

He also upbraided the President by describing him as an incompetent leader during the public presentation of his three-part autobiography My Watch on December 9, 2014.

He rated the Jonathan administration as colossal failure,

Politics / Presidency, Others To Spend N517.9m Onmeals In 2015 by samdwaplord(m): 2:27am On Jan 05, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday said only the courts could disqualify a former Head of State and Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The commission, which said there was nothing it could do in the matter, also said it had not received any petition against President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, Buhari and other presidential candidates, more than seven days after displaying their particulars.

The Director of Voter Education and Publicity in INEC, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, in an interview with our correspondent, said the commission could not go beyond its constitutional powers.

“What do you want INEC to do? INEC cannot disqualify anybody and there is nothing we can do. We don’t have any power to disqualify him.He didn’t bring it (certificates) and so there is nothing INEC can do. INEC cannot disqualify him and cannot remove his name. It is only the courts that can disqualify him, if they feel there is something wrong that he has done. I am not aware of any (petition); none that I am aware of for now. I am not aware of any (petition). I am not aware of any so far,” Osaze-Uzzi said.

Buhari had in an affidavit which he deposed to at a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, explained that all his academic credentials were with the Secretary, Military Board.

The affidavit deposed to at the FCT High Court and dated November 24, 2014, was stamped and received by INEC on December 18, 2014.

“All my academic qualifications documents as filled in my presidential form, President APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary, Military Board as of the time of this affidavit. The affidavit is made in good faith and for record purpose”, Buhari stated.

The Nigerian Army had said it would readily release credentials and certificates in its custody to serving and retired officers whenever they apply for it.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Olajide Laleye, had while reacting to Buhari’s claim in his affidavit, said that his credentials were with the military.

He said the procedure for the retrieval or collection of the certificates was known to all serving or retired officers of the military.

He said, “Every serving and retired Army officer has, at least, a copy of his certificates and credentials kept with the Nigerian Army while that same serving and retired officer has copies of those same certificates and credentials.

“And there is a laid-down procedure to request for certificates. It is known to any serving and retired officer. If you want anything checked in your file, you simply follow the due process and it would be given to you because the credentials belong to you.”

“The Nigerian Army does not refuse to give anybody his credentials if the due process is followed. Now, take note of this. Not only does the Nigerian Army keep these things, the individual officers, whether serving or retired, have copies.”

Also speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, said he was not aware of any petition against any

Politics / Presidency, Others To Spend N517.9m Onmeals In 2015 by samdwaplord(m): 2:10am On Jan 05, 2015

The Federal Government is proposing to spend   N517.9m   this year on meals and refreshments   for the Presidency, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, ministries of power and petroleum as well as their parastatals.

The amount is contained in the details of the 2015 budget breakdown, which was obtained by our correspondents in Abuja on Sunday.

The   N517.9m proposal for refreshments and meals is 42.9 per cent or N158.94m higher than the   N359.94m approved for the offices and the MDAs   in 2014 .

Out of the N517.9m,   a provision of N174.54m was made for refreshments and meals for the State House   in 2015.

The   N174.64m, according to the budget, is 7.4 per cent or N11.98m higher than the N162.55m approved in 2014.

For the office of the President, the budget breakdown revealed that a provision of N142.47m was made for 2015 for refreshments and meals.

However, nothing was mentioned as regards refreshments and meals for the President in the 2014 budget.

For the Vice-President,   a provision of   N25.58m was made for meals and refreshments.

The N25.58m represents   136.8 per cent increase over the N10.8m approved for the two items in the 2014 fiscal year.

However, while the State House Headquarters, Office of the President and the Vice President all have a combined budgetary provision of N342.59m for refreshments and meals, the 10 agencies under the presidency had a provision of just N67.4m for the same items.

They are the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals which has a provision of N8.49m; the Bureau for Public Enterprises, N14.72m; the National Emergency Management Agency,N14m; and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission N20m.

Others are the Bureau of Public Procurement, N5.52m; the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, N3.81m; and the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, N838,758.

In the same vein, the Presidency’s budget for meal and refreshments could be described as a sharp contrast over what was budgeted for the same purpose in the ministries of power and petroleum resources, as well as agencies under them which have a combined total provision of N48.7m.

The total budget for refreshments and meals for the Federal Ministry of Power and its agencies is N11.61m while that of Petroleum Resources is N37.1m.

In the 2014 Appropriation Act, the Petroleum ministry got N39.65m. That of     the Ministry of Power for the same year could not be obtained.

Of the eight agencies under the Federal Ministry of Power, only four had allocations for refreshments and meals.

A breakdown of the proposed budgetary allocation for 2015 shows that the headquarters of the Power ministry has N4.96m; the National Rural Electrification Agency, N2m; the Electricity Management Services Limited, N4m and the Nigeria Electricity Management Limited,   N652,111.

All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Ogun East, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that all party agents in all the 1,130 polling stations in the senatorial district as well as party coordinators would be equipped with telephone handsets during the coming general elections.
He disclosed this  at a meeting with the leadership of the party at Ode in Ikenne local government area of the state.
The senatorial candidate explained that the communication facilities would assist the agents to monitor the elections at their respective polling booths and inform the party secretariat about the happenings on the spot.
According to  Abiodun, this is part of strategies being put in place to check any form of electoral fraud that any party or individuals may plan to perpetrate during the polls, adding that the measure would also enhance the party’s efforts to collate its result at each polling booth to checkmate any attempt to falsify or doctor the actual results.
He revealed that there would be certain special telephone numbers that would be given to the party agents and coordinators through which they would communicate with the team in charge of monitoring and collation of election results.
“We are going to equip our party agents in all the 1130 polling booths in Ogun East Senatorial District as well as all party coordinators to be able to communicate with the leadership of the party and the party team that would be monitoring and collating the election results,”the candidate said.
“The agents would call some special numbers which would be given to them before the election day.
“It is not election results alone that they would relay to the monitoring and results collating team, they would also give situation reports in the individual polling booths so that if necessary, security agencies would be contacted on their emergency lines to check any electoral malpractices”.

Politics / Al Shabab Militants Stage Deadly Attacks In Somalia After Leader Was Killed by samdwaplord(m): 7:08pm On Jan 03, 2015
A Somali military official has said that Somalian al Shabaab militants attacked a military base in the outskirts of the town of Baidoa on Friday, killing at least seven soldiers. Reuters report:

The attack came two days after the United States said it had killed the chief of al Shabaab’s intelligence and security wing, Tahliil Abdishakur, in a drone strike. Al Shabaab seeks to topple the Western-backed Mogadishu government and impose its own strict version of Islamic law.

“Al Shabaab attacked our base unexpectedly, early in the morning today. We lost seven soldiers,” Captain Ahmed Idow, a Somali military officer, told Reuters by telephone from Baidoa.
Idow said Somali soldiers killed three al Shabaab insurgents during the attack.

A spokesman for al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab said the group had briefly seized the base and killed more than 10 soldiers. Al Shabaab often cites a higher death toll than the number given by officials. “We fiercely attacked the military base near Baidoa,” Sheik Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab’s military operation spokesman, told Reuters.

In a separate incident in central Somalia on Friday, al Shabaab ambushed a government convoy carrying food aid, killing one soldier, according to Somali officials.

Politics / Bakare Predicts Return Of Chibok School Girls In 2015 by samdwaplord(m): 11:14am On Jan 03, 2015
The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has prophesied the return of the missing abducted Chibok schoolgirls this year.

Speaking during the church’s crossover service into the New Year on Thursday morning, Bakare told his congregation that Nigeria would enjoy extraordinary grace from God this year, which would see the return of the missing girls.

He said, “The Chibok girls will be returned this year; some people will say ‘they are just using religion to deceive themselves. How will the girls be rescued?’ You will see. I didn’t say it, it is what God said and I believe it.”

With the support of various Bible verses, the cleric also foresaw a new Nigeria which would bring joy to the citizens.

Bakare urged Nigerians to stop tribal discrimination, which he described as bad for the country.

He asked the citizens to stop cracking jokes that desecrate the various tribes of the country.

The cleric said, “Whether you are from the East or from the West or from the North or the South, you will experience joy in 2015. Other nations will say ‘how did they do it.’ It will be indescribable joy. The nations of the earth will testify. I bring good tidings of joy to every part of the nation but I am not going to deceive you, we are going to go through some shakings.

“Let us not desecrate ourselves, saying this one is Yoruba-Yoruba or that one is Aboki and things like that. These are terrible things. Some people will say ‘if you see a snake on one side and a Fulani man on another, first kill the Fulani. There is also a terrible joke some people tell about the Igbos.”

Bakare also criticised the state of environmental degradation in the Niger Delta area of the country, which he described as unfair. He narrated an experience he had in the area where he had to rely on the use of table water for washing and other domestic uses because of pollution.

“I asked what I would do with all the table water that was brought and they said ‘you would need it’. The water from the borehole dug deep into the ground was black and when I asked how I would get water to wash and do other things, they said that was why they gave me all the table water.” he said.

Politics / » Step Down For Buhari,catholic Priest Tells jonathan by samdwaplord(m): 4:00am On Jan 03, 2015
Renowned Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to abandon his re-election bid so that the All Progressives Congress candidate, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) can emerge the winner of the presidential election next month.

Mbaka, who heads the popular Catholic Adoration Centre in Enugu, said this in his New Year sermon titled “From Good luck to Bad luck,” while addressing thousands of parishioners on Thursday.

He urged all well-meaning Nigerians to vote for Buhari on February 14.

According to the cleric, Jonathan has disappointed Nigerians and cannot deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Mbaka subsequently knelt down in front of the altar, cried and asked God to give Nigeria a good leader and not Jonathan. He used the opportunity to beg Nigerians to vote wisely in the forthcoming elections.

He said, “I love President Goodluck Jonathan and I used to be his ardent fan, but I want good for my people and that’s why I want Nigerians to vote out Goodluck Jonathan and vote General Muhammad Buhari. I don’t care if Buhari is a Muslim and from the North; all I care about is that Buhari can save Nigeria.”

Ironically, Mbaka had recently endorsed Jonathan’s re-election.

It was learnt that the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, had taken Jonathan’s wife, Patience, to Mbaka, where the cleric said he would pray for Jonathan’s victory.

However, after prayers, Mbaka said the sign he received from God was that Jonathan was not fit to rule the nation anymore.

Mbaka further explained that one of the reasons Jonathan is no longer fit to rule Nigeria for the next four years was the high level of insecurity which the President had failed to address as well as corruption in the country.

He said it was unfortunate that the over 200 Chibok girls who were abducted by terrorists over 200 days ago had not been rescued despite series of promises made by Jonathan.

He further urged the Federal Government to account for the missing $20bn and stop insurgency in the country.

Mbaka maintained that Buhari could not Islamise Nigeria as being rumoured in some circles.

He said he had never met the APC candidate but urged Nigerians not to forget that Buhari fought corruption to a standstill during his administration between December 1983 and August 1985.

Politics / » Man Beheads Mother Withaxe On New Year’s Eve by samdwaplord(m): 12:32pm On Jan 02, 2015
Christian Gomez, 23, has been arrested for decapitating his own mother’s head with an axe on New Year’s eve at her home in Tampa because she asked him to put some boxes away, Florida police say.

His brother called police to report the gruesome scene and when the police arrived, they discovered the headless body of 48 year old Maria Suarez-Cassagne near some garbage cans. Christian, who is said to be schizophrenic and has a history of mental illness, had fled in a bicycle before the police arrived but was arrested a few blocks away from the home.

When arrested, Florida police claim Christian admitted to killing his mother, saying he had been plotting his mother’s murder for two days because he was tired of her nagging. He’d hit his mother over the head with the axe, then cut her head off her in the garage and then dragged the body to the garbage outside the home.

Politics / Super Woman: Housewife Disarms Robbers With Hot Water by samdwaplord(m): 11:02am On Jan 01, 2015
Apart from pouring the scalding water on Oduto, the woman also used the pot to hit his face repeatedly, smashing it beyond recognition.

Two armed robbers, Kayode Oduto and Quadri Lateef, got more than they bargained for when they decided to attack the home of a Lagos housewife, who got furious at their effrontery and doused them with hot water, leading to their arrest and are now in the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja.

Police investigators discovered that Lateef used to live in the area where they went to rob.

It was gathered through interrogation that it was Lateef who told Oduto that he knew every nook and cranny of the area and was sure his knowledge would make the operation easy.

Lateef picked a building, which he told Oduto was inhabited by a rich man, simply known as Mr Charles.

When they reached the targeted building, the gate was locked, but the generator was on.

The two men quickly scaled the fence since they knew there were no dogs.

Oduto switched off the generator and the two men took strategic positions.

Oduto had a cut-to-size locally-made pistol, while Lateef had a toy gun.

A few minutes after the generator went off, the owner of the house, Charles, stepped out of the house to find out what went wrong.

Oduto pointed a gun at his head and herded him back into the house, while Lateef followed closely behind.

The robbers ordered the man to bring his money and gold. He told them that the money was in the master’s bedroom.

As they were walking towards his bedroom, the man suddenly turned and grabbed Oduto, trying to dispossess him of the gun.

Rather than assist his partner, a petrified Lateef just stood and watched.

The man was able to pin Oduto down. Lateef who had watched as his partner was pinned down, took to his heels.

The woman, who lives with her family at the Kollington area of Alagbado on the outskirts of Lagos, according to police reports, was boiling water to make ‘Poundo Yam’ for her family when the dare-devils struck, demanding for money and gold.

As they were busy ransacking the apartment, the woman sneaked into her kitchen and came back with the boiling water which she poured on Oduto while her husband seized the opportunity to disarm him of his gun and pinned him down.

Lateef sensing they were in danger, took to his heels but the woman and her husband’s screams alerted other residents who gave him a hot ursuit and apprehended him.

A police source narrated the funny incident;

<blockquote>" “As Lateef took off, the man shouted thief! thief! His wife, who was cooking in the kitchen, rushed out.

She had to use a rechargeable lantern to make out the figures on the ground since the generator was off.

She saw her husband struggling to continue to pin Oduto down.

Immediately she realised what was happening, she ran back to the kitchen. She rushed back to the kitchen, came out with the hot water and poured it on the suspect’s face.

After she poured him the hot water, she used the pot to hit his face repeatedly.

She ran outside and started shouting for help.

Other residents ran to help and the police were invited. The suspect’s face was a mess.“
