Most times when we walk into big malls, boutiques, supermarkets, we never question their prices. We pay exactly what we see on the price tags and even hand out tips to the staff.
But the moment we are out of these shops and want to buy banana, our bargaining game gets off to the roof. Poor widow with 12 hungry children at home tells you banana is #100. She even takes out her time to explain how difficult it was for her to even buy it, how the economy is so tough. But we insist that if it's not #50, we are not paying. Some of us even step back into our cars and make to drive away. But because 'half bread is better chin chin', this woman is forced to call you back and sell to you at little or no gain. In her heart, she cries, she's worried about how she'll survive with her children. She silently reassures herself that 'It's well. God will definitely provide.'' While you happily chop the luscious banana. Take some seconds out and think about this, sisters. I'm always moved to tears when I see people who genuinely and helplessly hawk petty goods to feed and survive for that day, especially women and children. Please don't bargain hard with small vendors like this. They do business not to buy designer bags, Gucci shoes and designer clothes but to LIVE and EAT for that day and the children share the remaining money to take to school the next day (that's if there's any left).
"He who gives to the poor lends to his maker". Let's give to the poor and needy!

Politics / FG Should Emulate Mimiko’s Progressive Initiatives – UNICEF Country Rep by samogconsu(m): 5:58pm On Aug 08, 2016
Country Representative of the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Jean Gough, has said that Ondo state government needs to promote more of its award-wining programmes in all sectors so that the Federal Government and other sates can learn from it. Mimiko Gough gave the advice in Akure on Monday while on a thank-you visit to Ondo state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, for providing the organization with an office space in Akure and other interventions that have yielded positive results in the last few years. She applauded the Abiye Safe motherhood and Agbebiye initiatives of the state Government saying they have become global benchmark in healthcare delivery system. The UNICEF Country Rep. said many of the primary healthcare centers in Nigeria are really not functioning optimally and that the programmes Ondo state is implementing could be an example to the Federal Government and other states in Nigeria to emulate. She lauded the governor for his collaborations with the organization in the last few years. According to her; “We have come to really appreciate you for giving us the office space which will enable us serve the people better and also learn from the good initiatives that you have done. “One of those things that has made you a progressive governor all the years is the fact that you are implementing social policies that are very strategic and focusing on the common man and I think that is part of your legacies”. She also commended the mega school initiative which she described as a transformative element of the state government. Reacting, Governor Mimiko said his government will continue to partner with UNICEF to bring to bare global best practices in all its projects by helping in the documentation of the state programmes and other interventions.

Health / We Were Forced To Create HIV Virus To Wipe Off African Race - Dr. Robert Gallo by samogconsu(m): 9:26am On Jul 15, 2016
A site run by a friendly and reasonably honest woman I know recently reposted a text titled “The Man Who Created AIDS: Robert Gallo.” The text went super-viral, over 80,000 shares on Facebook alone. Once I read it, I was aghast at how much misinformation and how many scientifically illiterate statements were in the text and attached video. I wrote her explaining my reasoning, and she immediately agreed to take down the text. It still exists on other, less responsible, sites.

Unfortunately, a large part of the damage has already been done, and that among other articles has helped foster the continued existence of a completely unfounded theory based primarily on not understanding what a patent is in molecular biology. A patent on Ebola or HIV is not the same as a patent on an engine.

Whereas the engine’s patent is reserving the production of that type of engine to the patent holder, a patent on HIV or Ebola is a patent meant to specify how the virus was isolated, how the genotype was determined, and what this consensus genotype is.

In biology, you can patent things you found to concretely identify that component, potentially for use in a more complex system later. Keep in mind that you can even patent seeds obtained from cross-pollination: the patent does not mean the species was genetically modified in a laboratory.

The same way a patent on cross-bred species does not mean it was created in a lab, a patent on a virus genome does NOT mean it was created in a lab. Robert Gallo first published his isolation and identification of HIV in 1984, and patented this in 1985. After older blood samples were then analysed in a search for this virus, it was then found in the past: it didn’t suddenly occur in the 1970s or 1980s.

Despite the claims of the article whose damage I am working to undo, the earliest samples of HIV positive blood did not originate from New York homosexuals from the 1970s, but instead date back to 1920s Congo.

The virus most certainly did not originate from biological weapons programs, which are only today becoming advanced enough that creating such a virus is even theoretically possible. They were most certainly not advanced enough in 1920, or even 1960, to create a synthetic retrovirus, which I might add, has still never actually been accomplished. One of the articles I saw blaming Gallo comically claims that chimps were supposedly deliberately infected and released in 1979, which somehow led to the virus occurring in New York in 1971.

The viral “Gallo did it” article that I convinced my friend to take down had an embedded video, where a man “explains” over dramatic music that HIV was created through “combining lymphoma, leukemia, and carcinoma viruses.” I literally burst out laughing, because none of what he listed was a retrovirus or even a virus, and cancer has literally nothing to do with HIV.

You could spend your entire life combining lymphomas, carcinomas, and leukemia, and you would still never end up with a retrovirus at the end.

All of these theories make very specific claims, without any evidence. They encourage me to believe that a man (who thinks cancers are viruses) has special knowledge and access to untold classified documents. To prove his point, the video displays extremely blurry documents that are barely legible beyond seeing Gallo’s name.

For all we know, these documents are completely fake, or actually completely harmless. We don’t know, because as is the norm in such articles or videos: no sources are supplied. Yes, the United States did and maybe still does have biological weapons programs. The Soviets did, and Russia still runs its “Vector” high-security lab, as well.

This is absolutely no indication that HIV is a bioweapon, especially considering the actual time-line of infections. There are even more reasons why Ebola is certainly not a bioweapon, but that is beyond the scope of this text.

Gallo was a scientist, and a researcher, and his position in the public eye is yet another reason to doubt him being an evil mastermind. There is no historical evidence actually implicating Gallo, or any others, in creating a HIV virus.

All of the historical and scientific evidence, as well as a general understanding of patents in science, point to a legitimate researcher, along with his peers, simply trying to identify understand a human illness. There may very well be one or more synthetic doomsday viruses sitting snugly or being worked on in undisclosed locations (or in BSL-4 labs), but HIV and Ebola are not examples of this.

Politics / Communique Issued At The Peoples Democratic Party, South West Leaders Meeting by samogconsu(m): 10:06pm On May 04, 2016
Preamble
The Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in South West Nigeria held a consultative meeting at the Ondo State International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) Akure, Ondo State, on 4th May, 2016. Delegation at the meeting included the top leadership of the PDP from Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo States, as well as the Governors of Ondo and Ekiti States. Also present were special guests of South West extraction from the academia, elder statesmen, public sector practitioners, professionals, youths and students.
The meeting discussed, among other things, the urgent need to re-energise the structure of the PDP in all the South West states and Nigeria at large.
At the end of the deliberation, we the leaders of the PDP in the South West resolved as follows:
1. That the time is ripe for all members of the PDP in the Southwest to forge a common front and pursue a common agenda towards occupying their destined leadership position in Nigeria.
2. That despite the challenges confronting the PDP, the Southwest caucus has agreed to unite and confront the challenges that is facing the Yoruba race in Nigeria.
3. That members of the PDP has agreed to rise up beyond personal interests to confront crucial national issues that affects us as a race especially the thriving menace of the Fulani herdsmen.
4. That the meeting notes with dismay the poor state of the national economy and feel terribly sad that the current ruling party has not demonstrated the capacity to contain the economic challenges with attendant dwindling fortunes that has reversed almost all the economic gains recorded under the PDP.
5. That developments in the sphere of elections, is becoming disturbing and from all indications, the accomplishments recorded by the last PDP Government as regards the conduct of credible elections, are beginning to wane. The Southwest PDP wish to put on record our dissatisfaction with the performance of the electoral body under the ruling party as all the elections the APC has so far superintended have ended as inconclusive!
6. That the PDP will not shy away from effectively playing the role of an opposition. This role is crucial to democratic survival and the Party shall continually make Nigerians look up to it as a credible alternative to the ruling party.
7. That we commend the on-going conscious efforts of the Party in ensuring genuine reconciliation of aggrieved party leaders and members towards ensuring that we become stronger.
8. That the party will continue to encourage the collaboration of the old and the younger generation while it will do everything possible to allow fresh minds and fresh ideas to thrive.
9. That this meeting noted the Party Posts zoned to the Southwest viz: National Secretary, National Publicity Secretary, National Auditor and Zonal Executive Committee. To this end, a structured Committee was set up to equitably distribute the positions amongst the six member states.
10. That we welcome Governor Adewolu Rashidi Ladoja back to the fold of our Party as evidenced by his representatives at this meeting.
11. That we resolve therefore to fully back and work for the re-invigoration of the PDP.
We the undersigned, on behalf of all PDP leaders of the South West fully subscribe to the above resolutions and recommendations today 4h May, 2016.

Politics / I Have No Grudge Against Mimiko, George – Fayose by samogconsu(m): 9:55pm On May 04, 2016
The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has refuted the report that he and some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West are having issues over the forthcoming election of the national chairmanship of the party.
He said specifically that he had no score to settle with the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the former Vice Chairman of the party in the South-West, Chief Bode George over leadership matters.
Fayose stated this while speaking at a meeting of the South-West leaders of the party, held at the International Event Centre, Akure, the Ondo State capital on Wednesday.
He said, “I read it in the newspapers that Chief Bode George abused me, but you can see me and him sitting beside each other here. He and I have come a long way, we are together. Dr. Mimiko and I have no score to settle too, we are together we are bound to agree.”
While charging the leaders to embrace unity for the party to move forward, the governor urged members to elect the people with ideas to run the affairs of the party at the forthcoming National Convention.
“There is nothing wrong with the PDP but the individuals in the party, I want us to push forward people with great ideas, Nigeria is too big for octogenarian to be the President. We need young people with energy to do this job for us,” he declared.

Politics / 20 Million Naira Accommodation Per Annum: Buhari Walks Out Of Ministers by samogconsu(m): 11:31am On May 02, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly walked out on ministers during a meeting at presidential villa, Signal is reporting. The report said the ministers led by youth and sports minister Solomon Dalung had sought the audience of President as the ministers for financial request of N20 million per annum to settle their accommodation problem but mid-way into the meeting, Mr Buhari President stood up and ‘excused himself’ leaving the ministers dejected and hopeless. find out why President Buhari rejected the request by the ministers “because his hands are tied by the Remuneration Act, even though he empathises with their situation. They were asking for N20 million per annum for their accommodation. But prior to last week’s meeting, several other options had been proposed, including buying an estate or the FCDA (Federal Capital Development Authority) building one, but these were considered expensive and dropped. The final option was the request for N20 million per annum, because some ministers are squatting in Abuja and the situation is impacting on their jobs,” Signal reported. Quoting a source who was present during the meeting, the report said “The ministers have been facing serious challenges with accommodation and they put their heads together to go and see the President hoping that they could persuade him to do something. Dalung was the spokesperson of the ministers; Communication Minister Adebayo Shittu was also at the meeting. Where the problem started was when Dalung started making reference to how ministers got a nice accommodation package under previous governments. He actually said that under Jonathan ministers were given N20 million each for accommodation. When he said that Buhari asked if he mean N20 million for all the ministers and Dalung replied that it was N20 million per person. It was at this point that Buhari stood up and said he was taking his leave and leaving Osinbajo to “sort it out” with them,” an unnamed source was quoted. Ministers who are perceived not be affected with the accommodation problem are minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola and minister of solid minerals, Kayode Fayemi. It was however gathered the minister of youth and sports, Solomon Dalung has secured a low-key accommodation at Gwarinpa district of Abuja. Meanwhile, the ministry of budget and national planning says it has begun the preparation of 2017 budget. The minister of state budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed who was quoted in a statement signed by Charles Dafe, Director of Information in the ministry disclosed this when the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) paid her a courtesy visit.

Politics / A Boiling Southern Cauldron And The Insults Of The Northern Governors - Ffk by samogconsu(m): 7:15am On May 01, 2016
On 30th April 2016 Mr. George Akinola wrote the following words on Facebook.
"When the Fulani exploded on the geographic space later christened Nigeria in 1804 they did not negotiate power with the Hausas, they seized it from them on the battlefield.
When the same Fulani appeared in Ilorin in 1823, purportedly to assist Afonja, the Are-ona-kakanfo of Oyo and the ruler of Ilorin, in revolt against his sovereign, Alafin Aole, the Alafin of Oyo, it was to gain his confidence for a while and a vantage position to murder him. Ilorin has been under Fulani rule since then and up until today.
When the British colonised all these empires, kingdoms and fiefdoms in the 19th century, it was not out of love for the black man.
It was an imperialistic push for more land, more territories to exploit minerals and other resources from. If you did not agree by subtle pressure, they simply applied the brute force. To hell with you and all you cared for!
When the Fulani attacked Yorubaland in 1825, they gave all our ancestors notice that they intended to bury the Quran in the sea at the backyard of the Yoruba empire and kingdoms.
Meaning? They will kill, destroy, maim, trample on men, women, children and all that we hold dear to achieve this goal. This was not by negotiation or a bargaining deal.
Blood was on the cards and red was its colour. Thank God for the fierce resistance of the Yoruba, rallying at Ibadan.
If not, maybe we will be doing "ranka dede" for one clown Emir of Ado-Ekiti or another comedian Emir of Abeokuta today.
Power does not give way to persuasion. Power only succumbs to superior power.
Fast forward to 1960. The new nation had just gained independence. But the drums of drunken power was already pulsating with madness in the heart of Ahmadu Bello, the leader of NPC, the party that won the 1959 elections, and which assumed the reins of power to lead Nigeria at independence.
Note that this was the great grandson of Uthman Dan Fodio, the leader of the 1804 Fulani Jihad. He made his intention, and the intention of the Fulani, clear in this now infamous statement: Hear Ahmadu Bello in the Parrot Newspaper of 12th October, 1960:
“The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great grandfather Uthman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We use the minorities in the North as willing tools and the south as a conquered territory and never allow them to rule over us and never allow them to have control over their future”.
I am sure you did not read any entreaties of love, affection and camaraderie disposition in that statement. It was harsh, callous, wicked, sadistic, exploitative, intimidating and wholesomely damning.
That is drunken power talking with inspiration from the lunatic fringe.
When he eventually paid for it with his life, his inheritors found a way to re-invent their stranglehold on Nigeria.
They came in through the military and continued, in a more draconian fashion, the bleeding exploitation of Nigeria. What we inherited from the British was "self-governing Regions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
Now we are forcibly united by an un-feeling centre. What we inherited was a revenue allocation formula that was largely derivative.
Now it is almost 'allocative'. At a point, Mohammed Buhari reduced the 50% derivation formula to 1%.
These parasites are barracudas and Shylocks of the highest order.
The only language these savages understand is the one that brought them there in the first case: force.
This may be subtle through the use of the instrumentality of guerrilla journalism, protests, occupation, civil resistance, civil disobedience, referendum, United Nations appeal, International coalition of forces, etc.
On the other hand it may boom through the barrel of the gun in a violent uprising or revolt, civil or guerrilla warfare.
Either way, force is force.
The irreducible decimal is that the Yoruba reject enslavement, the appropriation of their resources without their approval and illegal occupation of their God given land with all iota of their soul and with all the power in their being.
Whether for one second or for 200 years the enemy shall not feel comfortable until they leave.
With reference to how they will leave, however, the choice remains theirs: either on foot, running helter-skelter, on stretchers, in trailers, buses, straddled on horses or loaded in coffins.
But, leave, they shall, when superior power speaks!"
These are harsh and frightful words yet
Mr. Akinola's historical analysis and assesment is first class. He has spoken nothing but the truth no matter how bitter that truth may be. This takes courage and I commend him for it.
I deplore violence and I do not advocate or condone it in any shape or form. I do not want anyone to leave our land "loaded in coffins" or in body bags and neither do I believe that violence and bloodshed leads to anything but even more violence and bloodshed. It is nothing but a vicious cycle.
However the type of rhetoric that is now being expressed by our southern youth and intellectuals about the situation in Nigeria and particularly about the excesses of the Fulani cannot be ignored or downplayed.
We ignore the words of people like Mr. George Akinola, Mr. Babatunde Gbadamosi, Mr. Grandson Soyemi and so many others at our own peril.
Clearly there is tension and anger in the land. The spirit of division is rife and it is getting stronger by the day. Things are getting hotter and tempers are flaring. Nigeria is begininning to unravel at the seams. We must all be very careful not to set a match to the tinderbox.
Thankfully there are still a number of Fulani and non-Fulani voices in the north who represent a moderate and sane disposition and who have nothing to do with the hegemonist or religious agenda of the bigots and the hardliners.
I am talking about men like Colonel Abubakar 'Dangiwa' Umar, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim Imam, Alhaji Ibrahim Turaki SAN and so many others. I know every single one of these individuals and I can vouch for them.
These are the sort of people that are still holding the country together by giving southerners hope that the voice of moderation, reason and restraint still exists in the north and that that voice may eventually prevail. Yet the fire continues to burn on the mountain and tempers are still rising.
The insulting warning to the south from the 19 northern governors just the other day made matters worse. This contribution did not help to calm the storm but instead it has further frayed nerves. Simply put the northern governors have rubbed raw salt into our southern wounds.
They said that southerners should "not insult the Fulani again" and that even though they deplored what their kinsmen, the Fulani herdsmen, did in Enugu the other day, that does not mean that "their people" ought to be insulted.
This is all they had to say after thousands of southerners have been killed, maimed, raped, abducted and tortured in the sanctity of their own homes and land by the Fulani militants and herdsmen over the last one year alone and after over one hundred igbos were slaughtered in Enugu state just a few days ago.
They even went a step further by saying that they intend to take the cue from Kaduna state and introduce the licensing of all Churches and preachers in all the states of the north.
This is a deep insult to every Christian worth his salt, to the clergy and to the Church. It is also a surreptitious attempt to curb the spreading of the gospel in northern Nigeria. If ever the northetn governors had an all-time low this is it.
Instead of them burying their heads in shame and appealing to the rest of Nigeria to forgive them and their kith and kin for their collective and historical sins the Fulani leaders are still issuing threats to the rest of us through their surrogates, leaders and governors.
This is unacceptable. Such reckless arrogance and callous insensitivity does not serve them well and neither does it engender peace and reconciliation in our country. Instead it is provocative and insulting and it can only lead to a greater degree of alienation and more misunderstanding.
Sadly the 17 southern governors could not even muster the resolve to organise their own meeting and respond to the slur.
Meanwhile the people of the south are still grieving and suffering immeasurable pain as a consequence of the gratuitous violence and evil that we have been subjected to at the hands of these murderous Fulani herdsmen over the last ten months.
We are still mourning our dead and indeed all the innocent and defenceless souls, including women and children, that were murdered in cold blood in Enugu state just a few days ago.
The truth is that as long as those that represent the Fulani militants and herdsmen continue to try to justify or rationalise their beastly behaviour and threaten the south there will be people like Mr. George Akinola who will respond with the sort of rhetoric that he has expressed in this contribution.
There would also be far more than mere rhetoric and this, more than anything else, saddens me because I am a man of peace and I deplore violence.
Yet you cannot expect people to sit by silently and watch their loved ones and kith and kin being slaughtered like christmas turkeys and sallah rams on a daily basis by a bunch of uncouth, vulgar and unlettered barbaric beasts who are suffering from some kind of vampiric blood lust and who are plagued and afflicted with a cult-like supporter of APC syndrome.
It would be most unwise for the Fulani leaders and indeed the leaders of the north to ignore such sentiments and dismiss them with the usual contempt.
It is important that the Fulani militants and herdsmen are reigned in and that they stop killing southerners and occupying our land.
It is important that the Buhari administration stops encouraging and covertly supporting them in their mass murder and savage butchery.
It is important that the greater and wider agenda to conquer the south, to take our lands, to dominate and islamise our people and to discredit, destroy, jail and kill all vocal and credible southern leaders that have opted to stand up against them be brought to a halt.
It is important that the master plan to subjugate the people of the south to perpetual bondage and slavery at the hands of the Fulani be stopped.
It is only when that happens that we can guarantee lasting peace in our nation. It is only when this is done that people like Mr. George Akinola and all the other young rising southern stars will stop saying the sort of things that they are saying.
It is only when that happens that they will stop speaking and reflecting the minds of millions of southerners who are fed up with what is going on in our country and who are prepared to stand up, challenge the powers that be, break the yoke of bondage and slavery and fight for their freedom.
Permit me to end this contribution with the reaction of Afenifere, the leading Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, to the insults of the 19 northern governors.
On 1st May 2016 the Sunday Vanguard Newspaper reported as follows:
The Yoruba group, which spoke through their National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, told Sunday Vanguard: “It (the northern governors’ position) is a sign of unfeeling, uncaring for any group today to come out and say that those who have been causing problems and killing people in the Middle Belt and the South are not Fulani herdsmen. They have killed in Agatu land, Enugu; a traditional ruler was killed in Delta State; they killed Chief Olu Falae’s guard and also kidnapped Chief Falae himself. For some people to gather and call themselves northern governors, and have no sympathy for lives than to be defending the Fulani herdsmen, shows clearly that it is a tragedy of monumental proportion to be in the same country with these elements. You also begin to wonder if the blood of human beings runs in their veins because anybody that has human blood running in his veins will not come and say that Fulani herdsmen are not responsible. What nonsense.”
The Afenifere spokesperson went on: “I think the northern governors should bury their heads in shame. I do not think they are fit to be in the comity of civilized human beings. If the attackers are not Fulani herdsmen, where have they struck in the North-West? Why are their activities only in the Middle Belt and in the South? That is the question these northern governors should answer. When militants were blowing up pipelines in the South-South, were they not called Niger Delta militants? Do they want us to call them Yoruba herdsmen?”
As always Afenifere has done the yoruba, and by extension the entire south, proud with their courageous and timely words and intervention. They have spoken for every single one of us. Let us hope that the northern governors and the murderers that they seek to defend get the message.
Let us hope that they can purge themselves of the unwholesome and denigrating contempt that they clearly have for the people of the south before it is too late and before the whole damn nation explodes and breaks into a thousand pieces.
