*All Flights to Abuja Airport, Nigeria Cancelled After Plane Overshoots Runway* All early flights to Nnamdi Aziiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, have been cancelled over overshooting of the runway by a chartered aircraft. A Gulfstream aircraft belonging to Skybird Airline with the registration number 5N-BOD overshot the runway on Wednesday night, thereby leading to the closure of the runway by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). As of the time of filing this report, the reason for overshooting the runway by the aircraft was unknown and the airport authorities were still battling to remove the aircraft from the runway. However, passengers who had hoped to depart Lagos for Abuja were stranded at the airport, as all flights into the Federal Capital Territory were cancelled. Hordes of passengers were seen at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), Lagos and the General Aviation Terminal (GAT). Virtually all the local airlines have early-morning flights out of Lagos while Dana Air introduced 7am flight out of Abuja to Lagos just on Monday.

Rory McIlroy heaped praise on Tiger Woods, claiming the 14-time major champion is the best golf he has ever seen. The career of Woods is uncertain after the 41-year-old American great admitted there was a chance he may never play again amid his ongoing back problems. Former world number one McIlroy, who shot an opening round three-under-par 67 at the British Masters on Thursday, claimed Woods has already enjoyed full career, and if he is unable to play again, he has accomplished enough. “If this is it, he [Woods] doesn’t have anything to prove to anyone,” McIlroy said, via golfchannel.com. “He can walk away from this game with his head held extremely high and he’s done wonders for this game. I don’t think there’s a single figure in golf who did more for the game in terms of bringing different age groups of people into the game, different ethnicities, different age groups and made golf cool in the ’90s, when it really needed an injection of something. “He’s a legend of the game, and if this is it, then everyone should just applaud what a great career he’s had.” Woods is currently serving as an assistant captain for the United States team during this week’s Presidents Cup in New Jersey. He underwent another back surgery earlier this year after briefly returning to action, having not tasted victory since 2013. Currently hitting just pitch shots, Woods has displayed a more patient approach with his latest comeback attempt. While everyone expects him to return, there is a chance his career is over. If that is the case, Northern Ireland’s McIlroy still thinks Woods was one of the greatest golfers of all time. “Look, if he doesn’t play again, he’s been the greatest player that I’ve ever seen,” McIlroy said. “He probably played the greatest golf that anyone in my lifetime has seen. I didn’t really see Jack [Nicklaus] play. Jack has a better record, but I don’t know if he played better golf.” Read More Sport News:https://www.sportlineng.com/more-news/

West Ham United are looking into the prospect of sacking manager Slaven Bilic and replacing him with Carlo Ancelotti, according to a report. Hammers chiefs have stuck by the under-pressure boss despite a disappointing start to the campaign that has left the club 18th in the Premier League table after six games. The Sun claims that West Ham may now take action, however, as Ancelotti – a long-term target for owners David Sullivan and David Gold – is out of work after parting company with Bayern Munich on Thursday afternoon. It is claimed that Ancelotti wants his next job to be back in English football, where he won the FA Cup and Premier League during his two years at Chelsea. Ancelotti, whose final game at the Allianz Arena helm was a 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, has admitted in the past that he would be open to managing a club of West Ham’s stature. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has conceded that Chelsea “were better than us” in Wednesday night’s Champions League clash at the Wanda Metropolitano. The La Liga giants went in at the break a goal up after Antoine Griezmann fired home a penalty in the 40th minute of the game. Alvaro Morata, however, equalised on the hour before Michy Batshuayi scored a dramatic late winner to condemn Atletico to a 2-1 defeat. “Chelsea were better than us, they always seemed more comfortable,” Simeone is quoted by Marca as saying. “They played a very good, complete match, they were competitive and strong and deserved their victory. “We had chances, Saul [Niguez] could have put us ahead 2-0, but they were better tactically than us, they were better physically and played with more intensity. “It is important to keep going, we will improve in every area and I am sure the victory will come.” Following the goalless draw with Roma in the opening Group C match, Los Colchoneros head into their third match of the competition still searching for their first victory. England have called up Dele Alli for the final round of World Cup qualifiers, despite the Tottenham midfielder potentially facing a ban. Alli is the subject of a FIFA probe after he was caught on camera raising a one-fingered salute during England’s 2-1 win over Slovakia at Wembley earlier this month. Amid suggestions his gesture was aimed at referee Clement Turpin, Alli explained that it was in fact directed towards his former Spurs team-mate Kyle Walker. England boss Gareth Southgate corroborated Alli’s version of events immediately after the match, but admitted on Thursday that he ran the risk of appearing “a shambles” if the Spurs man has to miss out. “We have not heard anything at the moment from FIFA on Dele Alli. We run the risk of being a shambles because he might have to be withdrawn. We hope common sense prevails,” he said. “We have given our side of events, Dele has given his, we have to see what happens next. “I have had a good chat with Dele about different things, he is disappointed to miss football. He recognises the responsibility and we still have to qualify. We hope to have him available. “Old people make mistakes, so young people will do. Hopefully something like that will not happen again.” Fabian Delph and Fraser Forster have earned international recalls for the fixtures against Slovenia and Lithuania. England need to win either match in order to guarantee qualification for Russia 2018. Forster returns to the fold after missing out on the last squad as a replacement for the injured Tom Heaton, while the last of Delph’s nine caps came in November 2015 against Spain. The Manchester City midfielder has worked his way back into Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans this season and looks set for an extended stint in the team, albeit at left-back, after Benjamin Mendy’s injury. Southgate has left Danny Welbeck, Jamie Vardy (hip) and Nathaniel Chalobah (knee) out from the previous party. Read More Sport News:https://www.sportlineng.com/more-news/

Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku was a “bargain” at £75million, according to club great Roy Keane. Lukaku continued his impressive start to his United career with a brace in a 4-1 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow on Wednesday. The Belgium international has struck 10 times in nine games in all competitions, helping Jose Mourinho’s men make a flying start to the campaign. Former United captain Keane said signing the 24-year-old from Everton for £75m was a fine piece of business by the Premier League giants. “He is a good player at a good age. He knows the Premier League. He was a bargain at £75million, it was obvious he was going to score goals,” he told ITV. “He has got off to a good start. He comes across well and seems like a decent character. “His record at Everton was fantastic and clearly he has gone to a bigger club and better team, who will create so many chances for him, he will get 25-30 goals a season.” However, Keane is eager to see Lukaku deliver in big moments for United, who host Crystal Palace on Saturday. With league clashes against Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea coming up, plus the Champions League, Lukaku will get a chance to do just that. “The big test will be in the big games. For all top United strikers over the years, [it’s] been scoring the big goals in the big games,” Keane said. “We are looking at these outstanding strikers all in great form but the time to judge them will be at the end of the season when the medals and trophies are being handed out. “It’s crunch games when one goal will be the difference.” Read More Interesting Sport News:https://www.sportlineng.com/more-news/

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will reportedly attempt to tie midfielder Marouane Fellaini down to a new contract before the end of the year. The Red Devils boss is keen to extend the Belgian’s stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of the current season to ward off interest from other clubs, according to ESPN. Fellaini, who turns 30 in November, is eligible to sign a pre-contract for next season with another team at the turn of the year, unless he enters a new deal with United. The former Everton star is said to be attracting interest from China and Turkey, but Mourinho is reportedly eager to keep him and will offer him more playing time in the continued absence of Paul Pogba. Fellaini followed David Moyes from Everton to United in 2013. Read More Sport News:https://www.sportlineng.com/more-news/

Former Chelsea skipper John Terry has wished Diego Costa well at Atletico Madrid, describing the striker as ‘one of the nicest guys in football’. The Spain international is expected to finalise terms with Atleti at some point over the weekend, bringing an end to his three-year spell in West London. Costa won the EFL Cup and two Premier League titles during his time with the Blues, playing a pivotal role in both top-flight successes by top scoring for the club. Despite the animosity between the 28-year-old and Chelsea over the past nine months or so, Terry only had good words to say about his ex-teammate. “Good Luck @diego.costa in your next journey my friend,” he posted on Instagram. “An unbelievable player and one of the nicest and funniest guys I have met in football, playing against him in training and games was an absolute nightmare, one of the best and underrated players I have played with and against. “He gave everything for our club every time he wore a Chelsea shirt and was a born winner. Going to miss you mate. Good luck to you and your family.” Read More Interesting Sport News:https://www.sportlineng.com/more-news/
