It's the latest news in the world of football. Zinedine Zidane has resigned from his post as the coach of Real Madrid barely 5 days after winning the UEFA Champions League for a record 3rd straight time. He won 9 trophies in 3 seasons with Real Madrid which includes 3 Champions leagues,2 FIFA Club World Cup's, 2 UEFA Super Cup's, one La Liga, and one Spanish Super Cup. However, his position is now in the hands of Real Madrid's president to appoint a new coach. Arsene Wenger who just resigned as Arsenal manager after 22 years at the club is tipped to replace Zidane. In anticipation of the FIFA World Cup tournament 2018, footyprime has decided to take a group each day and show all the teams strengths, weaknesses, star players,records and other related stuff. We start our series today with Group A. Read, enjoy and drop your comments. The FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 is here! In a few days, 16 to be precise, the tournament hosts Russia will lock horns with the Al Suqour (the falcons) of Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki stadium, Moscow. This game will be the first of it's kind at the 64 game tournament. Our major focus in this article is the Group A. Group A comprises of four Nations; Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay. Saudi Arabia will become the first Asian team to ever play the first match at a FIFA World Cup tournament when they face the hosts Russia. Uruguay with two FIFA World Cup trophies to their credit are the major powerhouse in this group and are highly favored to win the group. Sit back and enjoy the analysis of the various countries gracing this group. RUSSIA: The Russian squad is Led by coach Stanislav Cherchesov with his captain Igor Akinfeev of CSKA MOSCOW. Their best ever feat at their 10 world cup appearances has been 3rd place at the group stage. Led by their star man , goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev along with Golovin, Artem Dyzuba, Alexander Kokorin and others, they would love to qualify for the knockout stages this time around. They have never played Egypt before, lost to Saudi Arabia once, but however boast of a good record against Uruguay having beaten them 6 times while losing just once in their 8 ties against the La Celeste. They are ranked 65th in the FIFA RANKINGS and are the third favorites to advance from this group. But can they do it?. SAUDI ARABIA: The Falcons begin their campaign with a game against the hosts of the tournament. They are led by coach Juan Antiono Pizzi and captain Osama Hawsawi. Their best ever World Cup appearance saw them crash out in the round of 16 in 1994. They boast of star man and top scorer Mohammed Al-Islam Sahlawi who has 28 goals in 38 appearances for his nation. He scored 16 goals in the qualifying stages which made him joint top scorer alongside Lewandowski and Ahmed Khalil of UAE. Saudi Arabia is ranked 67th and are expected to finish 4th in this group. However they'll be darkhorses and could spring a surprise! EGYPT Their first return to the FIFA World Cup since 1990 was made possible by Mohamed Salah's 94th Minute penalty against Congo. They will be searching for a first ever World Cup match win with Head coach Hector Cuper and Captain and goalkeeper Essam El -Hadary leading the team. The pharaoh's can boast of one of the current best players in the World in person of Mohammed Salah who has scored 33 goals in 57 games for Egypt and had 71% of Egypt's goals in the qualifying stages. They also boast of stars like Ahmed Fatti, El Neny of Arsenal and Sobhi alongside others. At 45 years of age, Essem El-Hadary will surpass Columbian goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon's record as the FIFA World Cup's oldest player to play in a tournament which was initially 43 years and 3days. Egypt is ranked 46 in the world and are deemed to be the second place finishers in this group. URUGUAY The La Celeste finished second in the CONMEBOL qualifying rounds, 10 points behind Brazil. With 2 FIFA World cup trophies to their name, they'll want to cement a third triumph definitely. Led by coach Oscar Tabarez and captain Diego Godin, the Uruguayan team filled with many stars would look forward to finishing on top of this group. This team boasts of top scorer Luis Suarez who has 50 goals for the team as well as Edison Cavani, Maxi Perreria with 124 appearances , Muslera, Martin Carceres, Raul Gimenez, Rodrigo and several others. The recent tournaments saw them finish 4th in 2010 but a round of 16 2-0 defeat to Columbia killed their dreams of a third trophy in 2014.
