In view of court judgment that sacked Ngige, people should desist from calling him former governor of Anambra State as stated in the court ruling.

I still don't see Andy Ubah as former governor of Anambra though he was elected a governor and he served some days before the court also sack him.

FOLLOWING the trouncing of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the last general electionsof March 28 and April 11, things are no longer rosy between PDP governors and national officers of the party.


Apart from losing the presidency, which it hasheld for 16 years, the PDP lost its majority in the National Assembly and will be the leading opposition in the next dispensation having won 46 senatorial seats out of 109 while the All Progressives Congress (APC) cornered 60. The same thing applied in the House of Representatives. From a height of 21 state governors, the party has only 13 slots now. It lost in its traditional states of Adamawa, Plateau; Niger, Kaduna, Benue, Bauchi and Jigawa.

Consequently, governors elected on the platform of the PDP want the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu and other members of the National Working Committee, NWC to take the path of honour and resign immediately.

Path of honour

This was the outcome of the marathon meeting of 19PDP governors held between Tuesday night and early hours of Wednesday at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja where the governors resolved that it has become imperative for the national officers to go and pave the way for anew leadership.

PDP leaders’ post-election gathering

The meeting, which was the first of its kind since the PDP lost the presidency after 16 years of leadership to the Presidential Candidate of the APC, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, retd, was a post-mortem on the election and to discuss the way forward for the party, especially the move to heal inflicted wounds, re-strategise and reposition the party.

It wasgathered that Mu’azu; the National Legal Adviser, Victor Kwon and all the 19 governors were at the closed-door meeting.

A source at the meeting told Vanguard that Mu’azu and his team were later asked to excuse the governors.

Soon after they left, sourcessaid the governors agreed that the party would need fresh persons and against that backdrop, Muazu and histeam must pave the way for the fresh blood that would be required to reposition the party.

NWC in marathon meeting


Following the decision of the governors, who want to take total control of the party, members of the NWC rushed into a marathon meeting even though they were said to be on two weeks break.

To prevent staff and others from knowing about the emergency meeting, they held it in the office of the National Chairman rather than at the traditional NWC hall with the National Secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo; National Woman leader, Chief Kema Chikwe; National Financial Secretary, Elder Bolaji Anani; National Treasurer, Bala Buhari; National Legal Adviser, Barrister Victor Kwon; National Auditor, Wole Adeyanju; DeputyNational Secretary, Onwe Solomon Onwe and National Youth leader, Abdullahi Maibasira in attendance.

As the meetingof the NWC was going on at Wadata Plaza, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, who dressed casually in Tee- shirt, walked in.

Vanguard gathered that Dickson who went straight to the office of the National Chairman, was said to have delivered the message of President Jonathan on the need for the leadership to resign.

NWC members fight back, call for public hearing

As a way of fighting back, members of the NWC are poised for a show down with the governors as they have vowed not to resign. They are calling for a public hearing into who caused the collapse of PDP between the governors and NWC. The leadership of the party is insisting that at the public hearing, members, stakeholders and leaders of the party would listen to viewsfrom everyone to ascertain who created problemsthat led to the poor performance of the party.

According to the PDP leadership whose tenure ends next year, the bestoption isto allow asmooth transition, cautioning the governors that resignation as an option would not work.

Govs arm-twisted us to impose candidates

They alleged that the governors arm twisted them to get whatever they wanted asthatwas the cause of the problem and not them as members of NWC.

According to members of the NWC, apart from Delta and Ebonyi states, all the PDP governors got the candidates they wanted asthey pushed unpopular candidates.

However, to present a united front some leaders of the party have waded in to break truce between the governors and the NWC.

Ibadan—One of the survivors of the Ode-Irele methanol poisoning, Mr. Olorunwa Jero, yesterday, recounted his ordeal in the throes of death.

Jero, a father of six, who is a vulcaniser, narrated: “By the time I was brought here, I had gone blind. I could not identify my wife, I could not identify anything. I did not even know when I arrived here.

“But I thank God and the management and staff of University College Hospital, UCH, for bailing me out. I can see all of you here clearly. I can even identify the clothes each one of you is putting on.”

The victim commended the teaching hospital for its timely medical intervention which he said saved his life.

Meantime, UCH management, yesterday, confirmed that five victims of Ode-Irele methanol poisoningwere responding to treatment.

The victims were said to have taken the methanol while consuming a local gin.

Confirming that the toxin was detected in the blood and urine of the victims, Professor Temitope Alonge, Chief Medical Director, UCH, said the five victims were transferred to the teaching hospital on April 18addingthatthey had regained their lost sight as a result of taking the chemical.

Alonge, who said this while speakingwith newsmen in Ibadan, warned people to be waryof takinglocal gin so as to avoid s similar unpleasant experience.

According to the CMD, series of tests were carried out on the victims and the samples of the three drinksthey took.

The medical practitioner said: “On April 18, the Consultant Pathologist with the Ondo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Osasan, called to seek the assistance of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, in the management of five patients who survived the Ode-Irele neuro-toxicity saga who were completely blind.

‘’We agreed to take over the management of the patients but requested for the samples of the local gin that were incriminated along the fresh blood and urine samples of the patients.

‘’I contacted the consultant neurologist on call, Dr. Steeve Oluwole for acomprehensive evaluation of the patientsbecause of the clinical presentation of the patientsthat had died and the ones that survived since they all pointed to neurotoxicity.

‘’In addition, the clinical pharmacologists led by Professor Catherine Falade, the laboratory scientists and specialists advisers to the hospital, Professor Segun Ademowo, were all contacted for the biochemical analysesof the blood of these patients as well as the urine in addition to the three samples of local gin that was reportedly consumed by the patients.

He added that all the relevant health personnel worked for almost two weeks before they detected the likely cause of the neurotoxicity exemplified by sudden blindnessand correlated their findings with the toxicants in the blood, urine and the local gin samples.

Yola—Adamawa House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution callingon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to probe alleged procurement of 50 Toyota Hilux vehicles and two bullet proof Jeeps at a cost of N580 million by the six- month old administration of Governor Bala Ngilari.

The House also called on the state government to, asa matter of urgency re-instate the sacked Director General of the state Public Procurement Bureau, Mallam Bello Umar, who it said was removed bythe executive for queryingthe purchase for not following due process.

The House at itsplenarypresided over by the factional Speaker, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, recommended the honouringof Mallam Umar with national award for doing his job diligentlyin relation to the alleged purchase and other executive excesses that costhim his job.

Wike urged the two committeesto work assiduously towards creating the right environment for his administration to immediately address very critical developmental needs of Rivers people upon assumption of office on May 29.

According to him, “The people of Rivers State have played their part by overwhelmingly voting the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the elections. It is now time for us to play our part by delivering on all our campaign promises. It is, therefore, incumbent on the committees to create the right atmosphere for the administration to hit the ground running.

“I call on members of the two committees to work hard in the interest of the people of Rivers State, so that we can build a new Rivers State that will be development oriented and people-focused.”

He noted that the outgoing state government was not supporting the committees in any form. He appealed to committee members to make personal sacrificesto ensure that they succeed in the task before them.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has denied ever apologising to Chief Bode George, the erstwhile deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over hisincarceration for alleged contract splitting.

In a statement issued by his media office, Tinubu said George’s account of their meeting at the burial of Chief Alao Arisekola lastyear was a twist of the facts as he said that he, Tinubu, was only beckoned by some dignitaries to greet George who he claimed he had earlier ignored.

Tinubu said that the attempt by George to take that greetingasan apology could only be a wayfor the PDP leader to walk back from his earlier vow to go on exile should General Muhammadu Buhari win the presidential election.

Chief George had in an interview by a national weekly last weekend claimed that he had forgiven Tinubu for his alleged role in sending him, George to prison after receiving the apology at Arisekola’s burial last year.

Tinubu’s response read thus:

“I was informed abouta recent interview by Bode George in one of the national dailies and felt it necessary to clarify his claim that I begged him for forgiveness. I don’t know when and how I ever offended Mr. George. I have never wronged the man or even thoughtof it. I sought no forgiveness because no forgiveness wasneeded.

“I think somehow he is still trying to implicate me as instigatingthe criminal proceedings once lodged against him. From my recollection, Mr. George was found guilty by a courtof competent jurisdiction based on convincing evidence of wrongdoing. He insultsthe judiciary by implying that hisconviction was wrongly derived.

“Mr. George seeks to imbue me with more power than I could possibly have. I am flattered but in all humility, I must protest the false assessment. If he can remember, the government of the day wasthat of the PDP. I have never had nor sought much influence in those circles.

”He was charged by the government ruled by his own party for an offence concerning financial irregularitiesatthe Nigeria Port Authority, NPA, an appointment he received from that same government. It isan incredible tale indeed to state that somehow I could direct a party that tried to dismantle the progressive political structure of my party to bringdown one of its key members.”

“The more plausible explanation for his legal tribulation was that a member of his own cabal blew the whistle on Mr. George’santicsfor reasons that only he and that person truly know. The rest is now history.

“I believe he was convicted of “Invoice Splitting” a violation of financial regulations. This malpractice is a deliberate circumvention of the law so that the culprit may approval expenditures above his mandated authority to do so and without proper oversight.

“In the end, it was Mr. George’s own hand and actionsthat led to his incarceration more than anything I could ever have done.

“Mr. George claims the alleged apology wasmade at the burial of Chief Alao Arisekola. On that date, personalities such as Oba Otudeko and Governor Ajimobi approached me because I did notgreet Mr. George initially. They pleaded that, in the memory of the man we were all gathered to honor, I should greet Mr. George. At their request, I turned back and came to greet him bysaying “Good Afternoon Egbon”. That was all.

“If Mr. George wishes to interpret that as an apology, he has the right to do so. I also have the right to state categorically that no apology was made or even intended.

“I think he is trying to find a way to walk back from his election hyperbole thathe would go on exile if the APC won the Lagos State governership election. He realizes that Lagos under the APC is a very good place to live afterall. If he wants to remain in Lagos, he does not have to manufacture an excuse or explain away his bad words. Neither the APC nor I have any aims against him. In the election, the people rejected his party and his brand of politics. That is enough for us. We move on to greater progress. We have no time or inclination to trouble ourselves by troubling Bode George.
Any trouble he is experiencing is a product of his own mind.

You would have to account for the arbitrary deductions made from the salaries of the state civil servants since august last year. You'd explain why you've been owing workers salaries for months. You'd tell us where Yemisi got the money to build HealthyWays and her shopping plaza in Abuja. Etc, etc, etc.

For those saying that the recruitment process will be cancelled, there's no such thing like cancellation. The only thing here is that we ain't certain of when they would start sending out sms/emails for appointment buh it's very close...they are almost thru with the process as I had my uncle call a Director in FAAN last night to ask him...and he said he can't reveal the exact date buh very soon the recruitment will be concluded. As for politicians and their slots...its a sure thing that must happen buh it won't affect the list of people that went for interview or PFT unless u didn't do well in the interview. We should all keep our fingers crossed and be prayerful so our names won't be tampered with...God Bless Us All!

I concur with u bro...Hon Osita Chidoka won't allow that happen cos he's a man of integrity. He would love to finish up the process and I'm confident that it will be very soon...God doesn't sleep neither does he slumber. We will all get their in Jesus name..AMEN!

They can't cancel FAAN'S recruitment! It makes absolutely NO sense! While its plausible that NIS can be canceled now because they haven't commence the main exam, physical fitness and Interview ... but FAAN has gotten too far to be canceled! Now let me tell that guy that posted that thread, God has decided to favour me amidst THOUSANDS! The Way He has showed His power to me from the beginning of the recruitment exercise to the end, I keep saying it, u won't believe it! Now the God i serve will NEVER make me go through all that process just for the whole process to be CANCELED at the end! My GOD is not a man that He should lie!
