TV/MoviesBig Brother Naija: Now That The Scales Are Off by sapidsapiens(op): 6:11pm On Apr 12, 2017
Don’t be scared of what will come out next. I am not a killjoy and will not criticise anything or anybody. As a matter of fact, I want to begin by congratulating Efe Ejeba, the Warri-born artiste whose life has taken a drastic positive turn like the Biblical Jabez.

He is now healthier and richer by 25 million naira, the exact amount that can fund two hundred clean cookstove small cottage industries.Like I said, I am here to share in your joy; both the budding artiste and the sponsors of the reality TV show. I am here to shake hands and clink glasses with both Efe, his runners-up, and the organisers of the event. Efe, for rising by stroke of a mixture of luck and personality to be the owner of a luxury sport utility vehicle he would not have dreamed of owning at least until the next fifteen to twenty years, supposing he had a job before the show, with the current rate of progressing Nigeria at the moment, and to the sponsors, for their ability to detect our impulsive irrationality and duffel away the lion share of our resources. Cheers, everyone.

Now, the show is over. Now, the craze has ebbed. Now, our senses ought to have returned and the scales must have fallen off our eyes. Efe, congratulations! You tried. God has picked your call, as they say. You can quietly go make a decent life out of that money, and be sure your generation never experiences the squalor that moulded you.
As for PayPorte, GoTV and the rest, to the conference room. We need to talk. It’s gentleman talk, a round-table tete-a-tete between civilised individuals.

I have no problem with the idea of gathering unmarried men and women in a house for three months to expose their unclothedness, have unlicensed sex, and lie, brag and demean what Africa and her values hold sacrosanct. I have no problem with the idea of making celebrities of people who do next to nothing but being themselves, as you put it. It’s business to you, for all intents and purposes. It has been a jolly good ride, and the raking has been more than worth the investment. There was a record 26 million votes for the various contestants in the final week alone, approximately one-tenth of the population of our dear country, apart from the rapt and frenzied viewership your channels enjoyed, and the money made from the short code messaging. But this is neither love, nor war, and there are a number of things we can do, to make all fair.

Okay, no discrimination intended but this is for my sisters, every female out there…the brothers can pitch in too, though.
So, we all want to find our Mr…and Miss perfect but the society convinces us no such thing exists, then we settle for less, get heartbroken and wham! We’re back to triangle  1—-searching for love!

The obvious question is; Is Mr perfect truly inexistent? The answer is NO! I like to believe every lady has a checklist, in the books or otherwise (so does every guy, just never in the books ) and every time we discuss our checklists, we hear, “You sure would have to get to heaven to find that kinda guy” but verily I say unto you; Stay on earth and you’ll find him…better still, he’ll find you!

We get swayed by societal beliefs and opinions that our perfect guy doesn’t exist but believe me when I say, HE DOES! And that’s why he’s YOUR MR PERFECT! Here’s the mistake we make, we interchange “The Mr perfect ” with “My Mr Perfect,” Now, here’s the difference:

HealthNutrition In Pregnancy: Eating Healthy For Two by sapidsapiens(op): 1:40pm On Apr 10, 2017
Hey, guys! I’ve been seeing so many cute babies everywhere so I decided to post something baby-related. Lol.

A healthy diet is very important in pregnancy and is essential for a healthy baby. It is more important to eat only healthy foods during this period than any other time of your life.  A healthy pregnancy diet promotes your baby’s growth and development.

The food we eat on a daily basis affects how our bodies work, how we heal and grow, and how we maintain energy and strength for years to come. It also determines the basic nutritional health that our children are born with and provides a model for their eating habits during childhood and beyond. Pregnancy is the one time in your life when your eating habits directly affect another person.
Your decision to incorporate delicious vegetables, whole grains and legumes, lean protein, and otherwise food choices into your eating plan before and during pregnancy will give your baby a strong start in life.

Your body has increased nutritional needs during pregnancy.
Though the old adage of “eating for two” is not completely correct, you actually require more micronutrients and macronutrients to support you and your baby. Micronutrients are dietary components, such as vitamins and minerals, which are only required by the body in small amounts.

Macronutrients, on the other hand, are nutrients that provide calories or energy. Examples of macronutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. You need to consume more of each type of nutrient during pregnancy. Most pregnant women can meet the increased nutritional needs by choosing a diet that includes a variety of healthy foods.
A simple way to ensure you’re getting all the necessary nutrients is to eat different foods from each of the food groups every day. In fact, all meals should include at least three different food groups.

HealthEverything You Need To Know About Meningitis by sapidsapiens(op): 1:29pm On Apr 10, 2017
Meningitis is an inflammation (swelling) of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord known as the meninges. This inflammation is usually caused by an infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Meningitis is usually caused by bacteria or viruses, but can be a result of injury, cancer, or certain drugs.
It is important to know the specific cause of meningitis because the treatment differs depending on the cause.
Bacterial Meningitis

Meningitis caused by bacteria, like Streptococcus pneumoniae, group B Streptococcus, and Neisseria meningitidis can be life threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Vaccines are available to help protect against some kinds of bacterial meningitis.

Viral Meningitis

Meningitis caused by viruses, like enteroviruses, arboviruses and herpes simplex viruses, is serious but often is less severe than bacterial meningitis, and people with normal immune systems usually get better on their own.  There are vaccines to prevent some kinds of viral meningitis.

Fungal Meningitis

Fungal meningitis is caused by fungi like Cryptococcus and Histoplasma and is usually acquired by inhaling fungal spores from the environment. People with certain medical conditions like diabetes, cancer, or HIV are at higher risk of fungal meningitis.

Parasitic Meningitis

Various parasites can cause meningitis or can affect the brain or nervous system in other ways. Overall, parasitic meningitis is much less common than viral and bacterial meningitis.
Amebic Meningitis

Primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) is a rare and devastating infection of the brain that is caused by a free-living microscopic ameba called Naegleria fowleri which is found naturally in warm water and soil.

Non-Infectious Meningitis

Sometimes meningitis is not spread from person to person, but is instead caused by cancers, systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus), certain drugs, head injury, and brain surgery.
How it Spreads

BACTERIAL MENINGITIS

Bacterial meningitis is spread from person to person. The bacteria are spread by exchanging respiratory and throat secretions (saliva or spit) during close (for example, coughing or kissing) or lengthy contact, especially if living in the same household.

HealthBaby Mama Drama by sapidsapiens(op): 11:11am On Apr 10, 2017
Movie title – No more baby-mama drama
Starring – mama and baby (insert fussy-eating baby’s name here).
Featuring – zinc, breakfast, water, exercise, meal snacks, food journal and favourite foods.
Written & Directed by – Eniola94
Produced by – Sapid sapiens

Hey guys!
I’m still on this baby matter oh. The good people of Instagram have not ceased to “tension” me with cute baby pictures. Meanwhile, I’m sure you just went “oh no” in your heads. Well, it’s my turn to say oh no! Calm down. This isn’t about baby mama drama (or maybe it is). Lol.

A lot of mums complain about their babies not eating as much as they used to or not eating at all. These complaints usually come with worries and anxiety on the part of the mum. Talk about the love of a mother! Oh, you’re welcome.

Before you even think about improving your baby’s appetite, you have to understand what’s affecting his/her appetite in the first place. Poor appetite or lack of appetite can be as a result of a couple of things such as;

1. Whole grains: you might have to review your baby’s diet if he/she starts to get fussy. It could be that your baby is being fed too much whole grains. Whole grains can make your baby’s stomach full for a long time due to its high fibre content. This would definitely reduce your baby’s appetite.

HealthShocking Reasons Why You're Losing Your Hair by sapidsapiens(op): 11:03am On Apr 10, 2017
Hair loss is really terrifying and awful, especially as a woman. The joy and peace we feel when running our brush through our mane, the stiff competition between “naturalistas,” and having gorgeous hair is more than just a symbol of feminity… it’s part of our charm and beauty. So losing our hair is not only frustrating and somewhat demoralising. it’s extremely painful when the extreme lengths we go to preserve our hair, fail. Right?
The good news is, you may be able to reverse, or at least slow the process if you can narrow down the cause.

Also, there is no real reason to panic if you lose a little bit of your hair every day. “Hair loss in women is, to a certain extent, normal,” hair restoration specialist Dr. James C. Marotta told StyleCaster. “The average woman loses between 50 and 100 strands per day — even up to 150 in some cases.” Phew!

So when should you worry? Dr. Marotta recommends a test you can do yourself, to see if your hair loss is cause for concern. “Take about 60 hairs between your fingers and pull, running your fingers through your hair. Usually between 5 and 8 hairs [will come out], which is normal,” he said. “An excess of 15 hairs, however, is not as common, and means you are losing more hair than you should be.”If you’re losing in the latter category, then the cause is probably in one of the listed things below:

Over-styling & using too many hair products –
Over-styling your hair and overusing heat tools.. even over-brushing your hair can cause hair breakage. Though it may look like you are losing strands of your hair, it is actually just breaking off the ends or the middle of your hair. Your roots are still fine.

FashionOkrika: Yay Or Nay? by sapidsapiens(op): 10:54am On Apr 10, 2017
Today I have decided to talk about something wey dey heavy for mouth.  The reason be say we dey do this thing but we no gree accept say we dey do am especially dem big girls and boys.

OKRIKRA ! ! !

What is Okrika?
It’s a local term used to denote “fairly used items”. It is also know as “bend down select”. Mostly wearables. They usually come in large amounts grouped together called a “bale” mostly from US, UK, China etc.

It’s not in every Okrika case that the items are fairly used. The truth is that some of them contain clothes from clearance sales, cloth factories (clothes with minor damages that do not meet the standard of the country they are to be sold in. Chai Naija done suffer ).

Believe it or not, they contain good quality stuff and even some stuff from designers (don’t ask me how I know. lol).

A major plus to this is the affordability and quality of items you can get.
Some “high class” boutiques actually buy Okrika, clean it up, package it well (some even go as far as getting tags for them) and set them up in air-conditioned boutiques to sell at outrageous prices.
