das berra instead of going upandan looking for what they didn't lost.
OdionAkghigbe:
...Lauds Obaseki’s Tough Stance.

As more Edo people and groups in the country throw their weight behind the orders of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, Edo people in the diaspora have expressed their support for the orders and curses of the Monarch and the state government’s tough stance on human trafficking.

President, Edo Global Organisation, Dr. Stephen E.O. Ogbonmwan, a frontline pan-Edo cultural group, with members spread across various countries of the world, said the drastic times the Edo people found themselves called for the drastic measures.

The United Kingdom-based Consultant Obstetrician, said: “What happened in the Palace shows the concern of the Omo N’Oba about the current negative trend in Edo land. We need more of such actions from religious, political and traditional leaders to stop our youths on the sliding slope to self destruction, greed, excessive love for money and the get-rich-quick syndrome, to come back to the straight and narrow path.”

Ogbonmwan decried “the behaviour of the ‘madams’ (traffickers) and the attitude of our young women, which made many of us ashamed in the Diaspora, hence we were working relentlessly to support the young ones on the right path to success to show to the world that Edo People are not bad people.”

He explained that “the love of money, more than the love and care for our fellow brothers and sisters and greed, degenerated to a point where brothers were selling brothers into slavery or ‘grassing on them’ by sending armed robbers and kidnappers on their brother’s trail. It is to reverse these ugly trends that we in Edo Global Organisation support our Oba.

“Drastic issues call for drastic measures in the language our people understand. It shows how very well the Palace understands the current issues affecting our people.”

He noted that “with the Edo State government’s tough stance against illegal migration, the involvement of Omo N’Oba and the event in the Palace a few days ago, we have seen the final nails on the coffin of illegal migration and prostitution which are organised crimes against our young men and women.”

On the efforts by his organisation to check the menace, Ogbonmwan said “in July last year, we organised an international conference to draw attention to it. The effort was lauded by the United Nations and the European Union. We wrote petitions that went viral on the internet.”

He urged Edo youths to embrace the several opportunities in the state, to improve their lives and become respected citizens of the nation.

Breaking: Metuh arrives court in wheelchair, begs to travel to UK for treatment

MARCH 14, 2018

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA –

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who is facing corruption charges, on Wednesday, arrived for continuation of his trial before the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, in a wheelchair. Metuh Metuh was wheeled into the courtroom to continue his defence to the seven-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him and his firm, Destra Investment Limited. EFCC alleged that he had before the 2015 Presidential election, received N400million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, without executing any contract. The agency alleged that the fund was electronically wired from an account that ONSA operated with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to Metuh, via account no. 0040437573, which his firm operated with Diamond Bank Plc.

It told the court that the fund which was released to Metuh and his firm by detained former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, retd,‎ ‎was part of about $2.1billion earmarked for the purchase of arms to fight insurgency in the North East. Besides, the prosecution which had earlier closed its case after it called eight witnesses that testfied before the court, equally alleged that Metuh was involved in an illicit transaction that involved the exchange of $2million. Meantime, at the resumed proceeding on Wednesday, Metuh through his lawyer, Mr. Emeka Etiaba, SAN, applied to be allowed to travel to the United Kingdom for medical treatment. Metuh’s lawyer told the court that his client’s health had badly deteriorated in the past two months, a situation he said would require urgent medical attention from his doctors in London.

He tendered as an exhibit, a letter from one Dr. Adrian T. H. Kasey, a Neurosurgeon at Wellington Hospital in London, which he said emphasized the need for Metuh to be treated urgently. However, trial Justice Abang requested both the prosecution and defence lawyers to address him on whether the court could grant Metuh’s request considering that he previously dismissed two similar applications on May 25, 2016 and on February, 2017. Justice Abang who noted that Metuh had yet to appeal both rulings, noted that issues Metuh raised in his present application dated February 23, were the same thing he relied on in the two dismissed applications. It will be recalled that Metuh was on February 9, brought to court in an ambulance, after Justice Abang threatened to revoke his bail and commit him to prison if he failed to appear for his trial.

The threat followed Metuh’s absence in court on two successive dates, though his lawyers tendered reports indicating that he was hospitalized at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Enugu where he was referred to by Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi. More details soon.

Hello, are you from Osun,Ogun or Oyo and living or doing businesses in Lagos State?

Please stop giving your money to Governor Ambode and Alpha Betta; whenever you work hard and have enough money to buy a car, please don’t pay Ambode N100, 000 for vehicle plate registration number as recently designed; go to ur State Local Government to get a plate number for N25, 000.

Plate number is plate number anywhere, everywhere; no value is attached! You won’t be harassed anywhere for not using the plate number of Lagos State.

If you can’t go to Ur State please go to the Lagos Liaison offices of your States at Ikoyi and Victoria Island respectively in Lagos, they will get you your plate number within four working days.

Let’s tactically and collectively put Lagos economic oppressors into shame and at the same time, helping to grow the economy of our states.

The 320% increment in vehicle plate registration fee in Lagos could be rubbished if all of us stop patronizing Lagos State vehicle plate registration number.

The police in Niger have arrested six persons suspected to have been involved in the stoning of Gov. Abubakar Bello in Bida town on Thursday, March 8.

Mr Dibal Yakadi, the Commissioner of Police in Niger, confirmed the arrests in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna on Wednesday.

Bello had gone to assess the damage on Bida Old Market, which was burnt on March 1 and to sympathise with traders affected by the incident.

On the occasion, some youths booed the governor and pelted his official vehicle with stones.

The night fire destroyed 900 shops and the governor donated N20 million to the fire victims to help lessen their pains.

Yakadi said the police had commenced an investigation to establish those who sponsored the action.

”As soon as we finished our investigation the suspects will be charged to court,” he said.

Yakadi said the command would not tolerate any act capable of disturbing the peace of the state and warned the people, especially the youth, to desist from all forms of political violence and thuggery.

The commissioner charged the youth not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction as anyone caught would be made to face the law.

” We will ensure diligent prosecutions of all those involved so as to serve as a lesson for others who are thinking in the same direction,” he said.

Yakadi said the command had already taken proactive security measures to deal with any form of security threat to peace in the state.

A major fracas has broken out amongst Nigerian security agencies in Abuja.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the violence broke out after soldiers and policemen attached to The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) tried to serve the Road Safety office in Wuze Zone 7 a violation notice.

The policemen and soldiers with the AEBP officials allegedly assaulted a female Road Safety marshal in the process and confrontation ensued.

The AEPB task force members denied assaulting the Road Safety personnel, saying they were resisted from serving the Road Safety the notice they brought.
During the fight, a soldier was reportedly wounded and a civilian staff of the AEPB was “taken hostage” by the Road Safety marshals.

In turn, soldiers and policemen who were part of the AEPB team seized a Road Safety officer.

There is currently a stalemate over the release of the “hostages”, as neither party was willing to free the persons in their respective custodies first.

The Road Safety demanded that its personnel must be released first while soldiers stood their grounds that Road Safety should first release the seized civilian AEPB staff, whom they escorted to serve the notice.

There is currently serious traffic build up around the area.

PREMIUM TIMES is currently making effort to reach the police, FRSC and the military for comments on this developing story.
Details later…

Understanding the Ajimobi administration

By Bolaji Tunji

There is no doubt that when the political history of Oyo State is being written, the name of the incumbent governor, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi will feature prominently. There are many reasons for these. In the modern democratic history of Oyo state, Governor Ajimobi is the first civilian governor to enjoy two terms in office. But his tenure goes beyond such feat. Never in the history of the state have there been infrastructural developments that have been witnessed under the watch of this astute administrator. Indeed, his desire to turn Oyo state into a modern 21st century city has earned him different sobriquets, ’The Builder’, ‘ Game changer’, The pathfinder, among others . One would not be too far wrong to state that many are unaware of his giant strides in the development of Oyo state or how he is giving Oyo state a new look. It is also easy to underplay his achievements. But to the discerning and those who have keenly followed happenings in the state, never in the history of modern Oyo state has any governor achieved such feats in infrastructural development.

To understand Senator Ajimobi, it is important to know what motivates him. His words give a clue as to what drives his passion. “I want to be a noble. A noble is a man who serves God and has integrity. I do not want to be too rich or too poor. A poor man will not sleep because he would always think about how to meet his needs, while a rich man would equally not sleep because he would always worry about his wealth. I want to be remembered as a man who made a difference in the lives of people, in the state”.

He is a governor whose burning desire is to take Oyo state into modernity, a city of the 21st century. He is a governor who is convinced that Oyo state must retain its ‘pacesetter’ status in the political and developmental history of the South West, Nigeria and Africa.

Oyo state (Western Nigeria) had always set the pace. It was where the first television station in Africa was established. It was also the region that had the first radio station in the country and Africa, the first stadium and the first university - the University College, Ibadan now known as the University of Ibadan.

True to his words, when his administration was sworn in on May 29, 2011, he had a clear vision of what he wanted and where he was taking Oyo state- to reposition the state in terms of developments and retain its many firsts in developments. His desire to do this was anchored on three planks of Restoration, Transformation and Repositioning. To achieve his objectives of restoring the glories of time past and changing the face of the state into a modern one, he knew the appropriate foundation must be established. He realized that no development would take place without a secure environment. To this end; his first task was to re-launch and reinvigorate the state’s joint security task force, Operation Burst. He did this by making available 20 new patrol van through the efforts of the state's Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF) which he had earlier inaugurated. Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) were also installed in black spots, under the Safe City Project, embarked on by the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led administration. All these seem to have paid off with absolute peace and security of lives in the state. This fact was reemphasized recently by the state police chief, Mr. Abiodun Odude when he described Oyo state as the most peaceful in the country.

Taking off from there, Senator Ajimobi identified five crucial pillars for developmental purposes and achieving his agenda. For a 21st century state of his dream, education and technology are appropriate and complementary tools that must be properly situated in the development agenda. He realized that the strength of leading, developed and developing countries is in education and technology. “An appropriate, functional education tailor made to fit our environment”, was how he puts it. He quickly identified three things wrong with the current education, the education was not functional and not suited for the environment, two, and it lacks entrepreneurial mix which should make it result-oriented and lastly, it lacks character which is the building block that would turn out responsible and respectable citizens. Indeed, he was scandalized at the total lack of respect exhibited by students. He was of the view that character building is also part of the complete education package. Products of such education must be upright citizens, have respect for elders and be the epitome of good and proper behavior. The problem with the current education was forcefully brought home to him during his encounter with students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology which led to the “constituted authority” scene. To him, as much as students should have the freedom to express themselves, it should be under the ambit of respect for elders, colleagues and acquaintances. He sees that as good breeding, complete education and the ‘complete man’. To Governor Ajimobi, education that is unable to imbue students with good breeding and character is incomplete. To achieve this concept of complete education, he set up the Schools Governing Board (SGB). Apart from the above stated reasons; the idea was also to ensure that parents are fully involved in the education of their children. Like all changes, this came with its opposition, but the governor was resolute about the way to go. With the inauguration of the board, education in Oyo state took a different turn. A stop was quickly put to the strange idea of promoting students to the next class or on trial, irrespective of performance. Today, Oyo state is reaping the result. In the last West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result, Oyo state recorded the best result in 18 years. The state government ensured teachers’ salaries were paid, they were duly promoted and the teachers repaid the gesture with performance. A Technical University, different from the universities of technology, was established, to create manpower in the much needed technical areas. Graduates of the institution are expected to have at least three vocational skills, to ensure their independence and be self-employed after graduation instead of looking for ‘white-collar’ jobs. Indigent students were offered scholarship by the institution. Senator Ajimobi’s second pillar of development is in the area of agriculture. In the southern part of the country, Oyo state has the largest expanse of land suitable for agriculture. The state also has the highest number of research institutes in the country. The government has tapped into these advantages. The state has about 360,000 hectares of land, 250,000 hectares is now devoted to agriculture. Presently, Oyo state is the number one producer of cassava. Cassava alone has about 15 different value chains which the administration has tapped into. The governor is encouraging farmers to plant and he is creating buyers, even beyond the shores of the country, for the output. Cashew nut is gradually becoming a money spinner and there are several Indian nationals in the Ogbomoso axis of the state who have equally tapped into this money spinner. Governor Ajimobi’s next focus was on tradition and culture. With a state rich in culture- History of the old Oyo Empire, the use of the Oyo’s Yoruba in the WASSCE, establishment of first radio and television station, establishment of the first university in Ibadan, he decided to build on these legacies by making Oyo state the film capital of Nigeria. The groundwork for this had already been laid and work to this effect has already begun within the expansive premises of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (because). The fourth pillar is provision of affordable health services. This led to the establishment of the state health insurance scheme. The last of the pillars is industrialization. To assure this, the government embarked on massive road construction with particular targets of roads leading into and out of the major cities in the state. Here, the government also established a first. It became the first administration to dualize roads in each of the zones in the state. Major towns and zones like Oyo, Ogbomoso, Iseyin, Ibarapa, Saki, etc have all become beneficiaries of these massive roads construction. No government has ever done this in the history of the state. The administration equally created a development corridor to achieve the objective of industrialization. To further give Industrialization a boost, the state went into partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Another first in the country. The aim is to establish an integrated agro industrial park and to support small and medium scale enterprises. China has also bought into the industrialization project with a planned injection of $5billion (N1.8trillion), at first instance, to develop the newly established Polaris-Pacesetter Free Trade Zone, along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway. As at today, close to 150 investors from Asian countries have signified interest in investing in the state’s free trade zone. These are some of the outcome of Gov Ajimobi’s trips outside the country. It was also what informed his recent trip to Denmark. The Denmark trip has started to yield results. Cattle farmers in that country would soon visit Oyo state with the aim of transferring knowledge in ranching and ultimately enhance local beef output in local and international markets. Also, Arla, a major international player in the diary business is in talks with the state government to enhance opportunities in the cattle rearing business and further encourage farmers in modern agriculture method. All these were embarked upon to fulfill the desire of Governor Ajimobi to make Oyo state the food basket of the country. But more importantly, Oyo state has the appropriate and conducive environment for doing business, indeed, it is ranked 4th in the ease of doing business in the country.

The phenomenal appearance of Chief Felix Idiga in the political firmament of Imo State has remained a topic of public discourse. It is not debatable that Chief Felix Idiga was by the judgment of the people, a sudden light that appeared at the terminal point of Imo political tunnel and had shown up at a time when darkness was at its thickest.

At a time when the Orlu /Orsu /Oru-East political space was being totally yielded to thugs and opportunists who in saner climes would at best been hewers of wood and fetchers of waters. At time the people's narrative at federal level will become bestseller - for all the wrong reasons in the world. At a time vice had become virtue and vice versa and at a time vainglory was allowed to walk tallest in the Land! There is no doubt that the coming of Chief Felix Idiga in 2019 to represent the constituency will restore the dignity of people who had started wondering at what point their constituency was lowered into the cesspit of mediocre leadership.

Foregoing reasons that the people will remain eternally grateful to Chief Felix Idiga for setting up Jafac Foundation and picking up the gauntlet in the face of group/elite cowardice to re-validate their individual and collective humanity, antithesis of the rotten order he challenged in 2015. It was refreshing to have an iconic figure like Chief Felix Idiga whose background, integrity, rare brilliance, sterling accomplishment as a captain of industry and expansive goodwill rise to diminish comic characters in charge of Orlu /Orsu /Oru-East affairs since 2009 when he single handedly brought Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) projects to the areas at large.

It was even more heartening that his joining the political fray among other things canceled out Imo's deepening moral and reputational insolvency. This explains why it would appear that for many Imo people, 2015 was a good year to the extent that although Senator Hope Uzodimma continued in office, Chief Felix Idiga reigns indisputably. What is more, 2019 is within earshot and millions of the people cannot wait for a man that is dedicated to carry them along. The occasion of Chief Felix Idiga to run for the office of Imo Federal House of Representatives, representing Orlu /Orsu /Oru - East constituency is an opportunity to support this great Imo light whose footprints have transcended national and continental boundaries. Please let us all support the highly worthy candidate.

Chief Sir Felix Chidi Idiga is an erudite scholar, international business man, great manager of men and resources. A politician with a distinction. Nkwa Chukwu kwere Orlu , a title his people bestowed on him. President of Jafac Group of companies. A company compromising of Swat Link International, Jafac Investment Limited, amongst other gigantic branches off Jafac Group. Cofounder, Jafac Foundation, Imo State.

Stupid people don come again o, won fe fi buredi ko wa lomi obe o.
Irukkanews:
Ahead of the 2019 general election, Igbos in Lagos State have declared operation get your voters card. Chairman of Isolo Igbo Stakeholders Forum, Prince Nixon Okwara said that the notion that votes does not count in Nigerian elections should be discarded.

According to him, over 85 million Nigerians are eligible to vote but because of this notion that votes does not count in Nigerian elections or that the elections have already been rigged, over 65 per cent of the number especially in the southern part of the country do not bother to register, let alone vote. He said the real issue of avoiding electoral process is not healthy because political decisions would definitely affect us either positively or negatively, hence the need to be part of the coming electoral process. He said that, it is only when you exercise your franchise that you can complain of bad governance.
He said Nigerians should not continue to sit on the fence and do nothing but lament.

“Please go and register and obtain your permanent voters card(PVC). Parents we urge you to encourage your children who are 18 years and above to go and register and obtain their PVC. We need to change the narrative and that can only with a firm resolve to participate in this on going electoral process by registering to be eligible to vote. We must all be involved in the quest to build a new Nigeria that will work for everybody regardless of creed, tribe and religious affiliation. The time is now, go and obtain your PVC.Ensure that you know the political ward your residence falls into because that will inform the polling booth that will be assign to you on your PVC.” Prince Okwara said

KwaraRat:
The Dullard keeps dragging us back.

First we lost points on our corruption rating, our Police is the worst in the world. Even on all economic and financial indices Nigeria is failing under the dullard. Insecurity is on the rise like never before and we can boast of hosting two formidable terrorist groups (BH and Fulani lunatics).

Now this...

Nigeria has slipped in democracy ranking and is now considered a hybrid regime bothering on full dictatorship to quasi democracy.

have you forgotten that "our president" is fulani? so what do you expect?
jerseyboy:
Ghana now with the world's fastest growing economy with 8.89 % GDP has exposed the glaring monumental failure of the Nigerian state in spite of Nigeria's many advantages.

Upon deep reflection, Ghana only advantages over Nigeria becomes glaring.

Ghana does not have Nigeria's Hausa Fulani problem.
