Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN on Friday told the Nigerian Senate that it​ has never sold and will not sell dollars to anyone at N200.

Senate on Thursday urged the Federal Government to give N200 to dollar concession to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) once in every year.

In his remarks, President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, said “we passed the 2017-2019 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and based on it, we have passed what should be the exchange rate which is N305 to a dollar.

“We should make laws that are truly going to guide our people because we have MTEF which says the exchange is N305.

“If with passing MTEF nobody should be given N200, but businessmen are getting N200, then, definitely pilgrims deserve N200 as well,” he added.

​Reacting, the CBN ​said it has not been allocating FOREX to any business at N200.

“It is not true,” CBN spokesperson, Isaac Okorafor, ​told Premium Times.

“We (CBN) are NOT selling FOREX to anyone at N200 to the dollar. The lowest rate in the entire market is the inter-bank rate, which ranges between N305 to N315​”.​

A Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba has ordered the remand of the deposed Baale of Shangisha, Chief Mutiu Ogundare, in Kirikiri Prison.

Ogundare accused of faking his own kidnap on July 5, was arraigned along with his wife, Abolanle, and his brother, Mohammed Babatunde.

They will remain in custody pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

Recall that Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode had dethroned Ogundare last Sunday.

On Thursday, the three suspects were brought before the court by a police prosecutor, Peter Okerinmodun, on three counts bordering on fake kidnapping.

The charge sheet stated that Ogundare on July 5, 2017 “put himself forward to be kidnapped for the purpose of causing breach of public peace” contrary to Section 5 of the Kidnapping Prohibition 2017, No. C17, Law of Lagos State.

“That you, Mohammed Babatunde and Abolanle Ogundare, on the same day, did aid, counsel, abet and procure Mutiu Ogundare to fake his kidnap, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 7 (1) and (2) of the Kidnapping Prohibition 2017, No. C17, Law of Lagos State,” the charge sheet read in part.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty before the Presiding Magistrate, T. Akanni.

Their counsel, Glory Odimayo, prayed the court to grant the defendants bail, adding that they were prominent members of the Shangisha community and they would not jump bail.

Odimayo further assured the court that they would not use their position to tamper with evidence before the court.

Okerinmodun opposed the bail application, claiming that the defendants, if granted bail, might cause a breakdown of law and order in the community.

Ruling on the application, Akanni cited Section 155 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State 2011, noting that bail was at the discretion of the court.

She granted bail to each of the defendants in the sum of N2 million with two sureties each in the like sum.

The sureties must consist of a traditional ruler, and either a person with registered property in Lagos or a Grade Level 17 officer in the state public service.

The case was adjourned till August 23.

Details of the “deal of the century” which would bring an end to the nearly 70-year-old Palestinian-Israeli conflict have been revealed, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

According to the publication, US President Donald Trump and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to the new terms which ruled out the two-state solution as the answer to the crisis.

If actioned, the agreement would see Egypt governing the besieged Gaza Strip, while Jordan would impose political guardianship over parts of the occupied West Bank. Israel would control the remaining parts of the West Bank and grant Israeli citizenship to the Palestinians living under its sovereignty.

There have been many secret meetings held between Israeli officials and Arab leaders, including Egypt’s Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Haaretz reported.

The newspaper also revealed secret meetings between the former US Secretary of State John Kerry, Netanyahu, Al-Sisi and King Abdullah held in Jordan in February 2016.


Meanwhile, according to Almesryoon.com, Israeli journalist Yossi Verter revealed a secret meeting held between Netanyahu and the former head of the Israeli opposition, Issac Herzog, with Al-Sisi in the Republican Palace in Cairo in April 2016.

“The secret meeting came at the peak of international efforts to draw general bold lines for a regional peace initiative,” Verter said, noting that the secret visit of Netanyahu and Herzog to Cairo came in line with secret contacts carried out to persuade Netanyahu to integrate the opposition into his government.


Haaretz said that the key of this solution is in the hands of Al-Sisi and King Abdullah who would condition renewing peace accords with Israel with continuous financial support from the countries which support peace.

The newspaper noted that this deal of the century could be rejected.

Facts have emerged on the purported secret visit of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, on Friday.

A cross section of Political Analysts have described Ekweremadu’s visit, as a move to dump the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“Ekweremadu knows fully well that the PDP is sinking in Enugu. It is suicidal for him to remain there, hence the meeting for soft landing”, a source said.

Although, sources in the Senate have dismissed reports that the visit was political motivated.

They revealed that the Lawmakers, who are members of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, paid the “solidarity” visit, after holding their meeting in Lagos State.

Reacting to the visit, a Lawmaker said: “The Committee was in Lagos, as part of its activities on the review of the Constitution. It has 36 members across political parties, and with each State represented.

“Although, there are two instances where myself and a Senator from Lagos, facilitated a meeting between Tinubu and Ekweremadu, this particular meeting is in recognition of Asiwaju as an elder statesman.

“They are in Lagos, and they felt that either officially or unofficially, Asiwaju is synonymous with Lagos. It is like visiting the landlord.”

In a statement released by its Convener, Deji Adeyanju, and Secretary, Dr. John Danfulani, the group noted that Buhari has now been absent from office, and from Nigeria for 72 days, and if the situation remains unchanged, it would commence the sit-out on the 90th day of his absence.

“The Leadership of the National Assembly must choose between the Nigerian people and the cabal”, Concerned Nigerians declared.

“72 days is too long for a Commander-in-Chief to be away from his country, without any explanation to the people that voted him”, the group said.

“We hereby, demand that the National Assembly invokes Section 144 (4) of the Nigerian Constitution, and direct the setting up of a Medical Panel, in conjunction with the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to ascertain whether the President is incapacitated”, the statement continued.

“If the President is found with any infirmity that renders him incapable of discharging his duties, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, shall officially declare him incapable of discharging his duties, and declare his office vacant, as prescribed in (2) of section 143”, the group declared.

A 28-year-old man facing federal charges in a pipe bomb explosion outside an Air Force recruiting center in Oklahoma had been enlisted in that branch of the military and was decorated for his service.

Oklahoma Air National Guard Capt. Jennifer Proctor said Wednesday that Benjamin Don Roden enlisted for Air Force active duty in April 2012 and joined the state's air national guard in October 2014.

Proctor says Roden was discharged from the air national guard's 138th Fighter Wing in April. He had been a senior airman, whose job involved fire protection.

Proctor says Roden received several decorations, including the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. She says he was deployed with the Air Force, but that she didn't know where.

The bomb exploded Monday night in front of the Air Force recruiting center in the Tulsa suburb of Bixby.

An arrest report shows an Oklahoma man faces federal charges after a pipe bomb explosion blew the door off an Air Force recruiting center in the Tulsa area.

The report says 28-year-old Benjamin Don Roden faces counts of possession of explosive materials and destruction of government property. He was arrested Tuesday but hasn't been formally charged.

It's unclear whether Roden has a lawyer. Messages left for numbers listed for Roden's mother and sister were not immediately returned Wednesday.

The bomb was detonated Monday night in front of the recruiting center in the Tulsa suburb of Bixby. The center was closed at the time, and no one was hurt.

A federal agent says a 28-year-old man has been arrested following a pipe bomb explosion in front of a northeast Oklahoma Air Force recruiting center.

U.S. Deputy Marshal Jeff Johnston told The Associated Press Wednesday that Benjamin Don Roden was arrested Tuesday and is booked in the Tulsa jail without bond. Court records indicate he will make an initial appearance in federal court Wednesday afternoon.

Roden hasn't been formally charged.

The bomb was set off Monday night in front of the recruiting center in the Tulsa suburb of Bixby. The center was closed and no one was hurt.

FBI agent Jessi Rice said a person of interest in the case had been taken into custody Tuesday at an area apartment complex.
