Sarsam: I was a struggling fresh graduate when I was introduced to pineapple farming
I planted about 15,000 pineapple suckers around June 2020, followed due process of it's farming.
Last year, I induced it all, and about 12,000 of the pineapple stands started fruiting, at first I was scared of how to sell 12,000 fruits, but when I started getting intouch with fruit sellers in my area, I was able to get many customers even more than what I needed.
I harvested over 10,000 fruits at ones and sold in dozens, I have about 600 dozens bigger sizes of pineapple fruits which I sold for ₦6000 per dozen. I realized approximately ₦3,600,000 on just 600 dozens of bigger sizes fruits I still have some smaller sizes left which I sold for ₦3000 per dozen
Planting just 15,000 suckers, and harvested about 12,000 fruits after spending about 700k on the farm.
Now I believe what some pineapple farmer always say, pineapple farming is a cool money investment...
Pineapple farming is a lucrative agrobusiness, invest in it if you have the opportunity.

Sarsam: Many prospective farmers and field farmers tends to know that pineapple farming is one of the best crop that is profitable and also a lifetime investment, most rush into it without proper knowledge about it and get to fall thereby thinking pineapple farming is not lucrative, I always advise you have a deep knowledge about it before venturing. This are the steps to growing a profitable pineapple farming:
♤. Land Purchase: If you want to venture into pineapple farming, the best you can do is to purchase your own land and not lease, reason is pineapple keeps regenerating years after Planting, so to avoid issues with land owners later, BUY YOUR LAND
♤. Land Preparation: After acquiring your land, clearing is the next, then plough the land. Spray contact herbicide after ploughing to avoid quick emergence of weeds before planting and after Planting.
♤. Suckers Purchase: What is next is sourcing for your good hybrid pineapple suckers or slips that is matured for planting. There are different specie of pineapple, but the most marketable ones in Nigeria are SMOOTH CAYENNE, SUGARLOAF, and QUEEN. So get anyone to be planted
♤. Planting: After getting your suckers, planting is next. Pineapple is planted in single row, double or triple rows depends on the expertise of the planters. The distance is 60cm/60cm/90cm. Your pineapple 🍍 is one the way to maturity.... Let go
♤. Management: Management of pineapple 🍍 is the level that most pineapple farmers fall. Management of pineapple requires weeding, fertilizer application and induction process. Weeding can be done manually and biologically ( herbicides ), fertilizers are organic or inorganic, while the induction is applying an induction chemical for the pineapple to bore fruits at our desired time. Weeding should be done as at when due, fertilizer should also be applied three times, while the induction process will take place 14 months after Planting. This level your pineapple is getting ready.
♤. Harvesting: After inducing your pineapple plants, it starts bearing fruits, and this takes about 4 months. Your fruits is ready, start harvesting and its ready for sale.
♤. Fruit sorting and sales: Fruits comes in different sizes, after harvesting, you sort for sales of different sizes. Big pineapple in the pictures belows is #9,000 per dozen, medium goes for #6500 per dozens and do on. You are now a professional and a successful pineapple farmer.
N.B. one acre of farmland will contain 15,000 pieces of pineapple suckers or slips....

Sarsam: Most people have been venturing into different business that is failing them Some even go into investing in other people's business to get ROI, but I will rather invest in agriculture than expecting ROI that might later fail. Pineapple farming is one of the best to invest in, it takes patience but it's a lifetime investment Advantage of venturing into pineapple farming
* Under proper management, pineapple will give you fruits for the next 1 7 years and more
* You don't need to replant every year, ones planted, and properly managed, just sit down and relax your money is knocking at the door
* Herdsmen can't destroy pineapple farm
* On one sucker to produce a fruit, you can only spend ₦120, while you sell a fruit for ₦400, you can go to market to price pineapple fruits for confirmations
* Pineapple farmers are still not meeting market demand
This and more are the advantages of venturing into pineapple farming.

Sarsam: I planted about 15,000 pineapple suckers around June 2020, followed due process of it's farming.

Hatesin: When is the best time to plant it and which variety yields better? Again, can it be intercropped with another crop? Thanks! You can plant anytime if there's irrigation, but if there's none on the farm, march is the best time to plant. Smooth cayenne specie is the best to plant Yes it can be intercrop |
